Bank Indonesia (BI) has officially ordered 23 banks to suspend the acceptance of new clients to premium service programs for one month, starting Monday.

The move follows revelations of alleged embezzlement by a former premium services provider at Citibank, senior relationship manager Melinda Dee, who allegedly siphoned billions of rupiah from clients’ accounts.

According to BI deputy governor of banking supervision Halim Alamsyah, the step was being taken to improve the quality of premium banking services and protection of clients, especially those listed in priority baking and wealth management programs.

“Bank Indonesia has ordered 23 banks with such services to temporarily suspend the acceptance of new clients for one month, starting Monday,” he said.

In the mean time, banks have been requested to “improve policies, standard operating procedures and internal supervision in efforts to improve the quality of services and client protection,” Halim said.

Muhammad Syarif suspected to be suicide bomber

Sutejo was stabbed at a road side shop in Cirebon on April 3 after an argument with someone who had asked him by phone to come to their shop.

The photograph on the driver’s license resembled the dead suicide bomber. The license bore the name Muhammad Syarif, with the address written as Astana Garib Utara, Pekalipan, Cirebon.

A suicide bomber detonated a low-explosive bomb strapped to his body during Friday prayers at the Az-Dzikra mosque on the Cirebon Police compound.

Tribunnews.com reported that the house was empty because the inhabitants – the parents and sibling of Muhammad – had left the house on Friday night.

After looking at a photo of the suicide bomber, neighborhood unit chief (RT) Supandi said that the two men bore a similar resemblance.

According to Supandi, Muhammad was around 170 centimeters tall, fair-skinned and had slightly wavy hair. These descriptions were similar to that of the suicide bomber.

Muhammad Syarif’s mother was brought to Jakarta by police officers on Friday night.

The human body, with all its powers of endurance, its life preserving systems for combating disease and taking in nourishment, and its ability through the senses to interpret what is happening in the world outside it, is like some marvelously complex machine.

But unlike a machine, it also has the capacity for pleasure and sensitivity to pain. And no machine, however futuristic, could match the body's ability to grow and to repair broken bones and damaged tissues, or its even more remarkable ability to maintain or multiply the human population by generating new life.

All these powers and capacities, all the strengths and intricacies of the body, could be reduced to a few handful of chemical elements such as oxygen, hydrogen, proteins, minerals, fats, trace elements and water which are all contained in the body's cells - microscopic structures, only a few hundredths of millimeter in diameter, but with the ability to absorb nourishment, grow, excrete wastes and increase in numbers by dividing in two.

SYSTEMS OF THE BODY

Various collections of cells make up body tissues such as skin, muscle and bone; and tissues are grouped to form organs, such as the heart, lungs and stomach. A set of organs make up a system, and the ultimate physical aim of the systems, working together, is to convert food into energy to keep the body working.

Foodstuffs are eaten; prepared in the mouth into a form suitable for digestion; broken down in the digestive system into smaller units by the action of chemical substances called enzymes; and absorbed into the body; where they are partly used as fuel.

For the burning of fuel in the body, as for any form of combustion, a supply of oxygen is needed. This is taken in from the lungs - a major function of the respiratory system - and distributed to the tissues by the blood, carried in the blood vessels and pumped by the heart.

The blood vessels and the heart make up the circulatory system, which also conveys foodstuffs and waste products round the body.

The body needs to get rid of waste products formed by the release of energy, the process known as excretion. Carbon dioxide and some water are excreted from the lungs in the air breathed out; a little water and salts are lost from the skin in sweat, and water and salts, together with complex waste products such as urea, and uric acid, are excreted from the kidneys.

These form part of the urinary system. This also includes connecting tubes, known as the Ureters (from the kidneys to the bladder) and the urethra (from the bladder to outside the body). The bladder itself is merely a reservoir of urine. Fibrous wastes and indigestible food residues pass out of the body in the faeces.

Some of the energy produced by the body keeps the various systems working and the rest is used for movement. This is carried out by the locomotor system, consisting of muscles, which act on the bony skeleton. The bones have an important role, not only in providing a frame work for the whole body, but also in protecting the vital organs, such as the lungs and the brain, from injury.

Acting on information provided by the sense organs, such as the eyes and ears, the brain and the rest of the nervous system can control a variety of bodily processes, either directly or by causing various glands to release hormones- chemical messengers, which in turn act on the tissues.

The release of the many types of hormones into the blood stream is controlled by the endocrine system, a series of glands in different parts of the body that regulate growth and the ability to reproduce.

The body also needs to be maintained. Treatment with medicines or surgery may be required to repair the damage by injury or disease, but often the body can cope with the problem by itself.

The body?s repair system consists of the normal continual process of replacing worn-out and damaged tissues. The ability to repair itself without outside help and the ability to grow, which is particularly obvious during childhood are two of the physical properties distinguishing the living organisms from a non-living organisms. A third is the body?s ability to perpetuate the species by reproduction - the role of the reproductive system. This involves the creation of new life by the joining of two sex cells - sperm and an egg from the parents, and the subsequent development while protected inside the mother?s body.

Jakarta’s restaurants have gone an extra mile to offer something new for diners, developing different interior concepts from library to apartment themes. The latest addition to the city’s bars is a restaurant with a bathroom interior concept.

Welcome to Nanny’s Pavillon Bathroom.

Located at Pacific Place Mall, the restaurant uses elements commonly found in a bathroom – toilets are used for seats, bathtubs are used as tables, vanity tables that can seat one person are placed at one wall. Showers and bath robes are hung on the walls.

Dominated by light green, light blue, white colors and floral French designs, the restaurant spells a comfort atmosphere.

Nanny’s Pavillon creative director and owner Melissa Winata said the interior was based on the restaurant’s concept.

Nanny’s Pavillon Bathroom is the third restaurant of the Nanny’s Pavillon restaurant chain after Nanny’s Pavillon Garden in Bandung, West Java, and Nanny’s Pavillon Living Room in Citywalk, Jakarta.

“We pick the interior theme since it’s possible. The mall allows us to be creative, so we thought why not go for a bathroom?” she said.

Melissa said the idea began when her extended family gathered on weekends or holidays to eat together at a Pavilion in their house.

“We would bring each family’s favorite recipe and then have a potluck party. Each person had their own favorite food. In the end, there was a lot to choose from,” she said.

She then wanted to share the scrumptious foods with other people, and the first Nanny’s Pavillon was born on March 23, 2009 in Bandung.

The menu is predominately Western food. The menus are named after family members, such as Mom’s Green Spaghetti, Smoked Brisket Spaghetti from My Uncle and My Grandma’s Chicken Pesto Pancake.

Priced between Rp 29,000 and Rp 40,000, the portions are perfect.

For drink, there is Nanny’s Cocktail, a sweet-sour fruit mix that comes in two sizes: A glass (for one person) and a pitcher (for four people).

“When we were little, our nanny took care of us. We felt comfortable in the hands of our nannies. We want to share this feeling of comfort,” Melissa said.

The restaurant’s funky name and the waiters’ uniforms, which resembles French nannies, had it once mistaken as a day-care center.

With time, customers began to recognize the place as a cozy restaurant to hang out.

Melissa said the costumer’s favorite menus changed from time to time.

When the restaurant first opened its doors, the favorites were Linda’s Peanut Caramel Butter Roll Pancake and Blueberry Cheese Roll. But now, menu items, such as Auntie’s Sausage Bake Rice, have gained popularity as well.

“We plan to make seasonal menus,” she said, referring to the red bean soup the restaurant chain had on its Christmas menu in Bandung.

The restaurant also held a waffle design competition at its opening and is to have the competition as an annual event.

And there is still more to come from the restaurant.

“In the near future, Nanny’s Pavillon will present a restaurant with library, terrace and barn interior themes. We’re still waiting for confirmation on the locations.”

Toyota to keep limited Japan output May 10-June 3

Toyota Motor Corp. said Friday it will maintain output at half capacity in Japan from May 10 to June 3 amid a supply crunch following the March tsunami disaster.

The world's No. 1 automaker said it still remained unclear when the company would return to full production in Japan. Toyota spokeswoman Shiori Hashimoto said the company was struggling to secure around 150 types of auto parts.

The magnitude 9.0-earthquake and ensuing tsunami on March 11 destroyed parts factories in northeastern Japan, causing severe supply shortages for Toyota and other automakers.

The twin disasters have caused Toyota a production loss of 260,000 cars, Hashimoto said.

Toyota has shut down all output in Japan except at three plants, which are running at limited capacity to produce the Prius, two Lexus hybrids and Corolla vehicles.

The company will resume production at all its Japanese plants at half capacity from April 18 to 27, and then halt output from April 28 to May 9, a period that includes Golden Week holidays when factories would normally close.

Limited output will resume at the plants from May 10 to June 3. Hashimoto said Toyota will decide later on production plans after June 6.

Amid uncertainty over the supply crunch, Toyota's share price has dropped nearly 10 percent since March 11 to close at 3,240 yen ($39) on Friday.

Masataka Kunugimoto, an auto analyst at Nomura Securities, said Toyota would likely incur an operating loss of 328 billion yen in the April-June quarter due to the fallout from the post-tsunami parts shortage.

Toyota is again expected to post an operating loss of 78 billion yen in the July-September quarter, he said.

But the analyst forecast Toyota's Japanese production will return to full capacity in September, and the company will then swing back to the black later in the year.

"Once Toyota gets enough auto parts, it can boost domestic output to make up for production losses. Toyota will post a V-shape profit recovery," Kunugimoto said.

He expected Toyota to post an operating profit of 414 billion yen in the October-December quarter, and forecast the same amount of an operating profit in the following quarter.

Cirebon Bombing

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono condemned the suicide bomb attack at a mosque at the Cirebon Police complex during Friday prayers, presidential spokesperson Julian Aldrin Pasha said.

Speaking to reporters at the Cipanas Palace in Bogor, Julian said the President had ordered Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto to address the public on what had happened.

“[The minister] was also ordered to coordinate with the police,” Julian said.

The President left the Presidential Palace in Jakarta for Bogor in preparation for a working meeting that will be held at the Cipanas Palace on Monday, Julian said. The President is also expected to meet Japanese ambassador to Indonesia, Kojiro Shiojori, in Cipanas on Sunday.

Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa ordered that the fire at the Pertamina refinery in Cilacap, Central Java, should be completely extinguished no later than today.

“Try to finish this today. Don’t allow the international community to grow anxious,” he told Pertamina President Director Karen Agustiawan in Cilacap, as quoted by Kompas.com.

Cilacap’s Tunggul Wulung airport was ordered to be prepared to accommodate flights on a 24-hour basis to help accelerate the process of putting out the fire.

The fire began Saturday when an explosion occurred at the state-owned refinery’s tank 3102.

FEBRUARY 7

Protesters form a human chain in Tahrir Square, vowing not to budge until Mubarak and those around him are forced from office as a second week of demonstrations comes to a close. Egypt's government tries to restore a sense of normalcy, scaling curfews back and announcing that sales of its treasury bonds will resume. The United States criticizes its talks with opposition figures, however, with a State Department spokesman telling reporters in Washington that "major figures in Egyptian society" have not been invited.

Google executive-turned-activist Wael Ghonim, who had been missing since January 28, is released a day after Egyptian officials acknowledge he was in their custody. FEBRUARY 8

FEBRUARY 9

Unrest extends beyond Cairo and demonstrators clash with police in southern Egypt, leaving two dead. Protesters attack the residence of the governor of Port Said over what state television calls a land and housing dispute.

In an interview with the American television network PBS, Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit told the network's "NewsHour" that Egypt's U.S.-backed military might have to intervene if Mubarak were forced out. FEBRUARY 10

Egypt's ambassador to the United States says the move makes Suleiman the "de facto president." FEBRUARY 11

The Swiss government has directed banks to freeze all assets belonging to Mubarak and his family, said Norbert Baerlocher, a spokesman for the Swiss Embassy in Washington.

The banks do not as yet have a clear picture of what Mubarak has but protesters on the streets had worried that he would attempt to flee the country with looted money.

In a televised speech Thursday night, Mubarak had indicated he was delegating authority to Suleiman, but Friday, deeply disappointed crowds calling for his ouster kept swelling throughout Cairo and in other major cities.

Friday night, they got what they wanted all along.

Opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei, however, sounded words of caution amid the euphoria. He urged Egyptians to stay united beyond the moment of euphoria.

"We have challenges ahead of us," said the Nobel laureate whom many believe could emerge as Egypt's next leader. "I think we need to not worry about retribution. Mubarak needs to go and we need to look forward."

Wael Ghonim, the Egyptian activist who became a reluctant hero of the revolution said only one word would be used to describe Mubarak in history books: "Dictator."

"I want to say: 'Welcome back Egypt," he told CNN.

Ghonim -- a Google executive who is on leave from his job and whose Facebook page is credited with triggering the popular uprising -- was seized by security forces and released Monday. His words and tears in a television interview galvanized the protesters in Tahrir Square.

He said he knew Mubarak would be forced out after a revolt in Tunisia forced its leader out in January, and he said he believed the military can be trusted to respect the demands of the protesters.

Many of the anti-government protesters had been calling for Egypt's powerful army, well-respected within the country, to take over as interim caretakers. Friday night, they voiced optimism that the military would pave the way for free and fair elections.

But it's uncertain what will come next in the most populous nation of the Arab world, and how Egypt's revolution, that succeeded on the 32nd anniversary of Iran's, will reverberate throughout the region.

U.S. President Barack Obama was notified of Mubarak's decision Friday morning, said Tommy Vietor, a spokesman for the National Security Council, and was closely watching the extraordinary developments unfold in Egypt, a key U.S. ally.

He will make a statement Friday afternoon, the White House said.

Mubarak's decision to step down is "obviously a welcome step," said a U.S. official involved in the Egypt discussions. Now comes "an unpredictable next chapter," the official added. It is "a sign the military chose society."

Amre Moussa, the secretary-general of the Arab League, said Egyptians are "looking forward to a different (and) better future."

A high-ranking Egyptian military official said the army's command was discussing whether to dismiss Mubarak's government and parliament and also when the next election would be held. An announcement was expected later Friday.

But some analysts were already sounding the alarm over a military takeover.

"Suleiman's statement is the clearest indication thus far that the military has carried out a coup led by Defense Minister Field Marshal Mohammed Hussein Tantawi," analysts with the Stratfor global intelligence company said in a statement.

"Egypt is returning to the 1952 model of ruling the state via a council of army officers. The question now is to what extent the military elite will share power with its civilian counterparts," the statement said.

Amnesty International, whose staffers had been among human rights workers and journalists detained by Egyptian authorities during the uprising, congratulated Egyptians for "their extraordinary courage and commitment to achieve fundamental change."

But it warned that the departure of one man did not mean an end to a police state.

"The repressive system that Egyptians have suffered under for three decades has not gone away and the state of emergency remains in place," said Salil Shetty, Amnesty International's secretary general.

"Those in power must grasp this opportunity to consign the systematic abuses of the past to history. Human rights reform must begin now," Shetty said.

A crop circle is a sizable pattern created by the flattening of a crop such as wheat, barley, rye, maize, or rapeseed. Crop circles are also referred to as crop formations, because they are not always circular in shape. While the exact date crop circles began to appear is unknown, the documented cases have substantially increased from the 1970s to current times. Twenty-six countries ended up reporting approximately ten-thousand crop circles, in the last third of the 20th century, and 90% of those were located in southern England.Many of the formations appearing in that area are positioned near ancient monuments, such as Stonehenge. Formations usually are made overnight, but have also been made during the day. The most widely known method for a person or group to construct a crop formation is to tie one end of a rope to an anchor point, and the other end to a board which is used to crush the plants. More recent methods include the use of a lawn roller.

Some crop formations are paid for by companies who use them as advertising.Other formations are sometimes claimed by individuals or groups without any evidence to support their assertion, usually after undesirable legal repercussions become unlikely.

A large circle and geometric pattern local residents say were created by a UFO have been found in a rice field in Krasakan hamlet in Sleman, Yogyakarta.

The pattern includes a triangle and two smaller circles in the middle of the large circle, which has a diameter of between 25 and 30 meters, tempointeraktif.com reported Monday.

“The circles were there since yesterday morning. I think they were left by an alien space ship, like one I saw in TV,” Krasakan resident Cahyo Utomo said Monday.

“It is impossible that this was were made by the wind or any animal,” he added.

The circles and triangle in the rice paddy next to a residential area look resemble a geometric artwork, while the other parts of the field remain intact.

The crop circles were first reported by a farmer, Tukiman, on Sunday at 6 a.m.

Sleman Police chief Adj.Sr.Com. Iwan Ramaini said he was not sure if the circles were created by a UFO or if it was a natural phenomenon. A police investigation is underway.
