Junior High Basketball Captures Championship

The Indiana Christian Academy Junior High Basketball team played in a five team round robin tournament on February 12th and 13th. They played four games in two days. The team won all four games and captured the tournament title. This is the 2nd time in three years that the junior high team has won the tournament. Congratulations to both players and cheerleaders!

Students Make ICA Proud at Competition

On January 30, for the first time in our school’s history, ICA students participated in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) solo and ensemble regional meet which was held this year at Muncie Southside High School. Approximately 1200 students from 50 different schools participated in this event which was open to instrumental students from the 5^th through the 12^th grades. ICA was represented by the following 16 students: Devin Wittkamper, Abby Thomas, Preslie Plew, Caitlin Ascher, Rachel Kollath, Katie Bartlett, DeShon Gibbs, Trent Ascher, Corrinne Huber, Erika Keevin, Austin Richwine, Hannah Bartlett, Dakota Stevens, Tim Moody, Ben Moody, and Trevin Ascher.

Out of these 16 participants, 13 received a gold rating and 3 received a silver rating. Four of these students qualified to represent ICA on February 27 at the state meet which will be held at North Central High School in Indianapolis. Congratulations to Katie, Erika, Rachel, and Trevin!

We are so proud of the work each student did in preparing for this event, and we especially want to thank all of the parents for their support as each student performed. The teachers of these students are to be commended as well. We want to thank Mrs. Cheenu Desai, Miss Erin Smith, Mr. Don Lamb, Mr. Steve Stickler, and Mr. Jerry Ascher for all of the time and effort that went into preparing the students. We especially want to give glory to the Lord for the talents and abilities He has given to each of the students and for providing a top-notch music program for the students we are able to serve here at the Academy.

Whirlwinds Wild About Colts

Every Thursday during the playoffs has been “Colts Thursdays” at ICA. We have been excited to follow the Colts and show our team pride. We decided to take a quick picture in our gymnasium to help remember the school year and the Colts’ season. We hope for the best during the Super Bowl and are looking forward to cheering for our Colts!

As Valentine’s Day approaches, we would like for you to consider getting gift cards for that special someone. ICA offers gift cards to stores across the country. A listing of the stores both alphabetically and categorically is under the Student Life section of the website.

Of course, gift cards are good to use anytime for any purpose-whether monthly shopping trips or weekly going out to eat. A percentage from each card, different cards have different percentages, comes back to the school to help with the large operating expensese that the school incurs. We appreciate your purchasing these cards. They provide a way for you to help us, so that we can help you. We are planning our order for cards after January 22, 2010. Please have all gift card orders in by then.

ICA Alumnus and CEO of Mavum Consulting is Recognized

Rod Reasen, a 1993 graduate of Indiana Christian Academy, was recently featured as the cover story of Employee Benefit Adviser magazine. The May 2009 article entitled “The Age of Reasen” spoke of Rod as ”. . . establishing himself as a prototype for the next generation of benefit advisers–challenging conventions and questioning traditions at every turn.”

While at Indiana Christian Academy, Rod participated athletically in volleyball, basketball, and soccer. He was also in choir, yearbook, and the school play.

After graduating from ICA, Rod went on to Bob Jones University and graduated with a Marketing Management degree in 1997.

In 2001, he began then what would become Mavum Consulting in Indianapolis. Since then, Rod has demonstrated a professionalism that his industry has not consistently seen. He states “his first priority, however, ‘is to maintain a godly atmosphere within our company. I strive to set a Christlike example to help our people grow closer to the Lord.’” (BJU Review, p. 7)

“At age 34 Rod is bringing a different energy and fresh perspective to the world of corporate benefits.” (BJU Review, p. 6) Mavum consulting is a small firm moving at light speed to help companies that are struggling with their corporate business needs. They continue to walk-the-edge of new and innovative ideas that could continue to help business deal with their benefit, particularly in the insurance area.

We would like to congratulate Rod on his continued success and pray that the Lord would continue to bless his business and spiritual endeavors.

Whirlwinds Fair Well in CICC Basketball Stats

The Central Indiana Christian Conference (CICC) is part of the statewide Indiana Association of Christian Schools (IACS). There are currently eight teams in the conference. Posted here are the results of the first 2 months of the season. The Whirlwind Varsity team has a good representation on the statistics leaderboard. Feel free to check it out.

We would also like to encourage you to come watch the Whirlwinds this season. Currently, the team is 3-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. We are excited about the effort that they are putting forth. We would love to have you come watch us in action.

Thanks for the Christmas Gifts

Students and Staff of ICA:

What a blessing the first semester has been! I have personally enjoyed getting to know the student body and have been excited to see what God is doing among each student. It is amazing how much students can mean to the teachers and administration.

On the day before school let out for Christmas break, my wife and I were blessed by the students with some Christmas gifts. They presented them all in the hallway of the elementary wing. I was surprised by it all, even though I wasn’t in the right place at the right time. They presented us with four gifts. When we approached, there was a Christmas tree filled with individually made cards from the students. These were such a blessing. Mrs. Plew and I laughed and cried over them for an hour. Next, they gave us a digital photo frame which I have in my office and they promised me an entire student body picture to put on it. Following that wonderful gift, the students presented two gifts together. They gave us a one night stay at the beautiful Cambria Suites at the Hamilton Center and a gift card to eat at the Cheesecake Factory. Mrs. Plew and I took advantage of that over the break and had a wonderful two days of relaxing together.

We wanted to take this opportunity to say “thank you” to all the students and staff of ICA for their wonderful thoughtfulness. It has been a great blessing to us. We appreciate your kindness. Thank you so much!

Foundations Pre-School Program & Prices

At Indiana Christian Academy’s Foundations Pre-School, our program and facilities are “top notch” which makes our prices a tremendous bargain. Check out what we have to offer below.

Program

The Foundations program provides students with the necessary tools for success at the elementary level. Below are just some of the things that are taught:

Reading

3-yr-olds:

Our reading program is a phonics-based program.
The students are taught all of the letters of the alphabet and the phonetic sounds that those letters represent.

4-yr-olds:

Besides learning all of the letters and their phonetic sounds, we also teach the students how to read short words and sentences.
We begin reading groups in the spring.

Kindergarten:

Our goal in kindergarten is to finish the job concerning laying a solid foundation for successful life-long reading-our students learn how to read.
We want all of our kindergarten students to be able to read at least one year ahead of grade level by the end of the school year.
Our students progress through a series of age-appropriate reading books that become more and more challenging throughout the year.
We generally begin reading groups by November 1.

Arithmetic

3-yr-olds:

We teach number recognition and counting for at least the numbers 1-15.
Some students learn to count to 50 and beyond.
We also teach basic shapes, sorting, colors, and the calendar.

4-yr-olds:

We teach number recognition and counting for at least the numbers 1-50.
Some students learn how to count to 100 and beyond.
We also continue teaching basic shapes, sorting, colors, and the calendar.

Kindergarten:

We use a first grade math curriculum in our kindergarten.
We review and teach counting by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, and 100’s.
Our students master addition and subtraction facts to 18; they also learn how to solve problems using addition and subtraction.
Our students begin learning about fractions and geometric shapes.
We also teach time, calendar, temperature, measurement, weight, and capacity.

Bible

We teach a 20-minute Bible lesson each day.
Our lessons focus on the major Bible characters and stories throughout the Old and New Testaments, such as Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Esther, Daniel, the life of Christ, the apostle Paul, etc.
We use these characters and stories to teach Christian principles to live by.

Facilities

Our facilities have been continually improving over the years. This year we have added our new loft (pictured above). Students enjoy playing and reading in the new loft. We have a beautiful gymnasium and playground equipment where the students can play as well.

ICA Christmas Programs

Indiana Christian Academy invites you to celebrate the miraculous and joyous birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ! The Christmas festivities begin next Tuesday, December 15 at 7pm, with the Elementary and Secondary Christmas Concert. Students in grades 1 through 12 will present songs of worship and Christmas cheer in a band, choir, and handbell concert that is sure to fill your heart with the joy of the Christmas season! Mr. Jerry Ascher, director of our award-winning music groups is excited about the quality of music our students are producing this year and is eager for them to share their talent with our ICA family. “It’s going to be a great concert,” he said. Admission is free and all family and friends are welcomed to attend.

The Christmas spirit continues on Thursday morning, December 17 with the Preschool and Kindergarten Christmas Program and Brunch. The children’s program, “A Merry Little Christmas,” will include songs, poems, and Christmas fun presented by our youngest students. “The children are not only adorable to watch, but truly show how much they are learning! It’s going to be a fun and special morning for them and their families!” said Program Coordinator, Miss Sherry DuBois. Following the program will be a delicious brunch, hosted by the Junior and Senior classes. Please contact the school office if you plan to attend (643-7884).

At Indiana Christian Academy, we definitely enjoy this time of year! Delighting in what our Lord did for us by sending His only Son to save us from our sins, and rejoicing in all of the good things God has given us are only samples of the daily worship we should seek to give our Lord—at Christmas and every day! You can order gift cards from over 600 different stores, many of which are national chains. These make great Christmas gifts for family and friends both near and far away. You can find out why we are offering these gift cards and see their benefit to us here. Students have received some paper work from the school about the gift cards. Please stop by the school office by December 4th so that you can get your gift card ordered and received before Christmas break. Please allow approximately 1 week for the orders to be processed and the gift cards to be sent to us.
