<description>The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) today announced that, due to the high number of I-129 petitions recently filed with USCIS (presumably as a result of the large volume of FY 2013 H-1B cap filings), customers will experience a longer than usual period of time to receive their receipt notices - possibly an additional 2 to 4 weeks.

<description>The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced it is extending the designation of Somalia for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for an additional 18 months, from September 18, 2012, to March 17, 2014. Eligible Somali nationals who currently have TPS status can re-register for TPS status from May 1, 2012, through July 2, 2012. In addition, Somali nationals who do not have TPS status may apply under the re-designation from May 1, 2012, through October 29, 2012. DHS’s most recent extension of TPS for Somalia is the eighth time it has been extended since 2001.

<description>USCIS has reported that as of April 27, 2012, it has received 29,200 eligible Regular Cap petitions against the 65,000 available H-1B visas.  Additionally, as of the same date, 12,300 eligible Master's Degree Exempt petitions had been received against the 20,000 available.  USCIS began to accept petitions for H-1B visas that are subject to the Fiscal Year 2013 Cap on April 2, 2012.

<description>As we reported in the March 2012 issue of the Immigration eAuthority, the U.S. Department of State (DOS) announced that, effective March 23, 2012, no further EB-2 category immigrant visas will be authorized for China-mainland born and India applicants with priority dates later than August 15, 2007. On April 23, 2012, the DOS announced that the annual limit for the China-mainland born and India EB-2 categories has in fact been reached and, therefore, no green card applications in these categories will be approved until the beginning of the new fiscal year, which is October 1, 2012.
