This was a very special engagement session, one close to my heart for two reasons.

One: it was shot in Krakow, Poland (the place where I was born) and

Two: Piotrek (aka the Groom to be) was my first official friend, EVER. We go way back. Dipers and cribs way back :) He was my next door neighbour when I lived in Poland. We spent many hours together as children, and I have many fond memories getting into fun trouble. He was also the first one that broke the news that Santa is a fake...

When my family immigrated to Canada, we lost all contact. Many years later, we re-connected and stayed in touch ever since. When I heard the great news about his engagement to his girlfiend Marta I was extatic! From the first moment I met Marta, we became great friends and shared many giggles.

I was so honored to shoot their engagement and of course their Wedding Day (post coming shortly). The images below were shot in the ever so popular Main Market Krakow Square. Love everything about this city. The amazing architecture, the coffee shops, the cobble stone sidewalks, the pigeons and the atmosphere of the old city. This was an amazing place to shoot, so inspirational and of course sentimental.

Special thank you to my cousin, Piotr Mroz for his awesome help in assiting me with the session. You did an amazing job, I hope you can help me out this summer!!

NAIT - Photographic Technology Shadow Week II

Some time ago, I was asked by Ian Grant (the president of PPOC Alberta) to come by and speak to the students of the NAIT Photograhic Program about my experience with the Profesional Photographers of Canada Association (PPOC). It was an awesome experience and I received a lot of warm fuzzy emails from various students later that evening. Corrie, was one of them. We chatted for a bit and soon thereafter she asked to shadow me from October 24-28.

I am a NAIT Photographic Technology student and for my work experience week I have the privalige of working with Kinga at Images by Frost.

The first time I met Kinga was when she came to talk to our department regarding the PPOC. At the start of her lecture she told us that if we went on her facebook and liked her Images by Frost page, we would have a chance to win a book at the end of her presentation. My first impression of her was "Wow! This lady knows how to market!"

My week with her has been so much fun. I have learnt so much - little things on the business end: blogging, website layout, search engine optimization. She has given me a ton of great tips on putting wedding packages together, album design, and adding special little touches that add to the process that client and photographer go through together. Her own business is built around integerity and doing the best she can for her clients, with a strong emphasis on educating them about what to look for in a professional photographer.

One of my assignments from school was to shoot a couple using only natural light. Kinga and her husband kindly volunteered to model for me, giving me tips on composition and posing models. The next day, Kinga let me assist her on a engagement session. During the shoot we had some techincal difficulties with off camera flash, so she confidently shot the rest of the session using only natural light . What a great example for me!

If I had to list the most influential thing that she showed me during the week it would be her workflow process - it has entirely changed the way I look at post processing. Kinga's philosophy is to get the photograph right in camera. She can confidently light and shape her models so they look thier best without any Photoshopping! I also am thinking about investing in her little Motibodo keyboard - when she does edit her photos (and she does take the time to edit each and every one of them) she blasts through batches with such ease!

I would highly recommend Kinga both as a wedding photographer and as a mentor for students learning photography. Thanks for the great week, Kinga!

Elizabeth & Clay Maternity Session | Edmonton Photography

Elizabeth & I chatted over the phone back in August for a September maternity photography session. She had a vision...fashionable clothes, high heel shoes & an urban backdrop. She had me at fashionable ;)

Elizabeth had all these cool ideas for the session and it sounded as tough all her outfits were also nailed down. Both Elizabeth and Clay did not have any professional photographs taken of themselves other then their wedding day so she was really looking forward to this. When I saw her, she was glowing, gorgeous & the happiest I have seen her.

Finn Corkett - Edmonton Baby Photography

Meet Finn Corkett.

This little man is Amy & Adams first born. On August 7th of last year, I shot their Wedding Photographs. Today, I had the priviledge of shooting Finn's first portrait. He was wide awake throughout our session and closed his eyes for a total of 15 seconds. He definitely wanted the whole experience :) Shortly after the studio session we ventured outside for some family environmental photographs. Since the family came up from Calgary for the weekend, it was a long day for Finn. The little guy was a trooper.

When Amy got pregnant, she started a blog. Initially, she wrote about her pregnancy experience. Now she is reviewing baby products and giving away some amazing stuff to her readers! Check it out. Its called, "Up Mommy Creek". If you haven't ready what are you waitting for?!

Rachael & Myles Westlock Wedding Photography

Rachael & Myles chose June 11, 2010 to be their wedding date. We couldn't have asked for better weather that day. The sky was just the right blue, it was really inspirational ...

The getting ready images were taken at Rachael's parents home. This gorgeous house is conveniently located on the Westlock Golf Course which we also used for a portion of the formal photographs later that day. Rachael had her make-up and hair done here as well. Once Rachael was all dolled up, we shot her bridal portraits. What can I say, she looked stunning.

They exchanged vows in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and were surrounded by their family and many friends. Father Sabinus officiated the wedding.

The formals took place ALL over Westlock! Rachael and I planned all the locations ahead of time. We shot at the golf course, at a red barn & baseball diamond. I had a great time with this wedding party. Since we had plenty of time, nothing was rushed and everyone had fun :)

Rachael & Myles chose lavender as the accent color. It was prominent in Rachael's flower bouquet, the girls bridesmaids dresses, the guys ties & hall. All the hall (Westlock Memorial Hall) accessories were rented from ABC Bridal and the decorators did an amazing job in draping the ceiling, the head table back drop, archways and cake table. All the guests had an amazing time, when it was time to party EVERYBODY ran onto the dance floor!

The newly weds honeymooned in Europe for two weeks. Rachael & Myles loved the food in Greece. They had an amazing time on the beach and site seeing in Santorini.

My second shooter, Jeff Gibbons got hurt this year and unfortunately could not shoot with me. Wishing you a speedy recovery Jeff! I also wanted to say a special thank you to Sharon McNamara Barnes that stepped in. You did an amazing job. Thanks again Sharon!

Candace & Sjoerd | Wedding Photography

Candace & Sjoerd tied the knot on April 30, 2011.

The gorgeous bride got ready at her parents home in Windemere. The house was busy with six girls getting ready, but It was also filled with lots of emotions. Sjoerd got his bride to be a stunning pearl necklace & a matching pair of earings. So lovely!

Candace looked amazing in her gown. Her father did say, "What a sight" when he saw his little girl all dolled up for the first time. I had to bite my lip to continue the job :)

Their ceremony took place at the Union Bank Inn. It was filled with laughter, tears and lots of love. After the Family photographs we used the downtown core as the backdrop for our formals photographs. April was a bit rainy, so we booked Commerce Place for our indoor location. After a little bit of rain, the sky had a magical blue color. We took some final images with the city skyline to end our session.

The reception was at the South side Community Hall. The speeches were very thoughtful. Everyone had a wonderful time.; especially with the photobooth. Had a great time!

Photobooth Part 2

Lauralynn + Farhan | Downtown Engagement Photography

Lauralynn & Farhan are getting married at the end of July. Since they both work downtown at the Telus Plaza, we chose a Friday evening to shoot their engagement. In the downtown core of course.

We had scheduled a multi-location shoot. With these two, I could have shot straight into the night. Lauralynn wore a gorgeous navy dress with little white polka dots and accessorized with a red belt. I must say that I really liked her outfit. Farhan looked nice as well, but together they simply rocked it. They are very much in love ... but you can tell that from the images. Their chemistry is amazing and it shows.

NAIT - Photographic Technology Shadow Week

I had the pleasure of being shadowed by Amber Dowson, a soon to be grad from the NAIT Photographic Program. We got to spend some time together from April 11-15 and talk "photo stuff" for the entire time :)

Amber was really interested in off-camera flash techniques. Since I LOVE off-camera flash, we got along perfectly! Although Amber is cute as a button she was really eager to learn and absorbed all my tricks very quickly. She asked lots of questions and I am sure learned lots. We finished our week with a shoot in the downtown core. One of Ambers friends, Kayla, modelled for us to help Amber put her new skill to practice. I have to say, she did VERY well! I'd like to wish you all the best, Amber.

Well, I definitely learned a lot from the lovely Kinga today!!

I had a gorgeous model, Kayla Taylor, model for us while I practiced my developing photography skills.

Kinga and I used off-camera flash in outdoor and indoor settings; learning a various amount of poses as well.

To compensate for the colour cross-over in the photographs, we used a grey card and a couple CTO gels over the flashes.

I think that the outcomes that we processed are very beautiful and I would like to thank Kinga Dydra for the awesome knowledge on off-camera flash!! I know that I will surely be using the information I received today!

Stephanie & Cam | Edmonton Engagement Photography

I met Stephanie & Cam back in 2007. I was shooting Amanda's and Jason's wedding in Canmore; Stephanie, was a bridesmaid. I was pumped when I received an email about the big engagement!

We decided to do an urban engagement session and met downtown on a Friday afternoon. Although the streets were crawling with people, we managed to get some wicked shots.

Holt had an amazing Valentines Day display and this hot couple showed some local Edmontonias how kissing is really done :)

Monique + Will | Edmonton Engagement Photography

I met Monique & Will back in January of 2010. They were recently engaged and of course looking for a wedding photographer. Although they are tying the knot on September 22, 2012 this couple does not waste any time. They almost have everything booked and are looking forward to the big day.

Monique could not wait for the engagement session. She specifically asked for a winter park setting as she loves the trees covered with fluffy white snow :) We shot our session at Hawrelak Park.

We had a REALLY cold day; nevertheless, had a great time.
