Writing task 1 (a letter)
You have heard that your company is organizing a language training abroad for a limited number of participants. Write a letter of interest, in your letter
- state your position in the company,
- explain why they should include you in the list,
- explain how the training could benefit your work and/or the company.

Writing task 2 (an essay)
People nowadays are not as fit and healthy as people were in the past. What is the long term effect on health? What may be the reasons? What can be done about it?

Speaking test

Interview

- What is your name?
- Can I see your identification?
- Do you work or study?
- What is your work like?

- Do you like it?
- Where do you live?
- Describe your neighborhood.
- Describe your relationship with your neighbors.
- What is the importance of having a good relationship with your neighbor?

Cue card

Tell me about an old person that you have met that you still remember, please say:
- who this person is,
- what your relationship with this person is,
- describe the person,
- how you feel about this person.

Discussion

- What is the role of older persons in our society nowadays?
- Do you think that they are still worthy to be in the work force and what’s the benefit of hiring them to the company?
- Who do you think should take care of them?
- What is the effect of having a greater population of older people in a nation in terms of economy?

Listening test

Section 1. Garbage collection, what day it is scheduled on by the local council, details about the size, color, contents of the bin.
Questions: filling in the blanks and multiple choice.

Section 2. Lady wants to mail her items from New Zealand to Australia, where she is moving. She was asking the post office worker about the ways to send mail.
Questions: filling in the blanks and multiple choice.

Section 3. Research done by two students, who are talking to their professor.
Questions: table completion and multiple choice.

Section 4. Monologue of a lady doing a survey.
Questions: multiple choice.

Reading test

Passage 1. Tour and history of the Jack London Square.
Questions: True/False/Not Given, filling in the blanks.

Passage 2. Company car-pool policy.
Questions: filling in the blanks.

Passage 3. History of a writer.
Questions: True/False/Not Given.

Passage 4. Maps History, from ancient (Babylonians, Egypt) to 15-16th century.
Questions: mostly information matching (selecting answers A-I according to paragraph type) and multiple choice questions (A-B-C).

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a letter)
Write a letter to the airport flight manager about missing a business trip due to an accident that happened at the airport. Explain:
- what happened at the airport,
- what was the result of missing the flight,
- what you want them to do.

Writing task 2 (an essay)
Newspapers and magazines will not be available in the near future because large amounts of information from the Internet will replace them. Do you agree or disagree? Give some examples from your own experience.

- What’s your full name?
- What shall I call you?
- Can I see your ID?
- Where’s your hometown?
- How is it there?
- Talk about your hometown.
- Where would you recommend a tourist to go to in your hometown?

Cue Card
Talk about a famous person (not from your country) that you would like to meet. You should say:
- Who is he/she?
- Why is the person famous?
- How do you know about this famous person?
- Explain why you would like to meet this famous person.

Discussion
- What is the advantage and disadvantage of becoming famous?
- How do famous persons influence people?
- How do famous affect people in wearing branded items?

“The best advice for students preparing for IELTS, especially for the speaking section, would be to be yourself and keep it simple. If you try to learn your answers beforehand, you will lose marks as the examiners pick that up immediately. Speaking in short simple sentences does the trick. Speak slowly so that you are well understood. This is very important as we may have very different accents. Practice speaking with friends to get the natural flow.

Reading, Writing and Listening skills can be practiced with the help of IELTS materials available online. There are a lot of websites providing free samples which are worth going through.

Last but not the least, believe in yourself and have a good rest before the exam. It will be hard to concentrate especially on the listening part if your mind is not fresh.

Listening test

Section 1. A woman was talking to a guy, doing a survey, she asked for:
- address,
- occupation,
- some questions about the city he lives in.

Section 2. 2 students were discussing their project. Very similar to the ‘Official IELTS Practice Material 2009, Listening Section 3′.

Section 3. A lecturer was talking about how she set up an Online Writing website to help her students.

Section 4. A woman was talking about a company that she belongs to.

Questions. Filling in the gaps job titles (e.g. engineer, scientists, accountants), what kind of benefits the employee gets. Similar to ‘Official IELTS Practice Material 2009, Listening Section 1′.

Reading test

Passage 1. An article about the Olympic Games throughout the years. Technical stuff about the design or the Olympic Torch.
Questions. Completing the diagram of the torch.

Passage 2. An article about violins. Traditionally how they were made, the science of it and the preference of musicians.

Passage 3. An article about a study on compliance and non-compliance in children.
Questions. Complete the sentences by matching.

Writing test

Writing Task 1 (a report)
A table on the population of the UK sorted by age groups in the years 1995 and 2005. It also showed the predicted population in 2015.

Writing Task 2 (an essay)
Technology progression has a negative impact on us. To what extent to you agree or disagree with this statement?

- Where’s your hometown?
- How is it there?
- Talk about your hometown.
- Where would you recommend a tourist to go to in your hometown?
