The first Map of the Month in 2012 is the Bhutan map of the Austrian military. At the last ICC the map won the first jury prize in the category “Maps based on Satellite Images and Remote Sensing”.

December's Map of the Month is the Guide Map of the Karaj Municipality

The last Map of the Month in 2011 is the Guide Map of the Karaj Municipality in Iran. The map is a product of the Gitashenasi Geographical & Cartographic Institute and won the second jury prize in the category “Maps and Plans of Towns and Urban Areas”.

Photos of the 2011 Commission Chair Meeting are online

Nearly all 28 ICA Commissions were represented in last week's commission chair meeting in Vienna, Austria. The meeting took place November 24–25 at the Vienna University of Technology and included an intense two day workshop. November's Map of the Month is the Australian School Atlas Jacaranda Atlas

Map of the Month is back – The Beautiful Game

From this month onwards we will feature winning maps from the international map exhibition at ICC 2011 in Paris. September’s Map of the Month is The beautiful Game – A World of Football. The map by Kenneth Field won the first jury prize in the category “Thematic Maps”.

Updates to the ICA website due to ICC 2011 in Paris

The 15th General Assembly of the ICA took place at the last International Cartographic Conference in Paris, France from 3rd to 8th of July 2011. In the picture above you can see the new executive committee together with the new commission chairs. We finally managed to incorporate all necessary changes into the ICA website:

The new members of the executive committee are online.
The new commissions for the period 2011–2015 are online. (Working groups will be formed at the next meeting of the executive committee in November 2011.)
Commission reports and posters are available.
The awards section was updated.
We introduced a new website section dedicated to ICC conferences.
In this section we also have more details about the winners of the Barpara Petchenik Children's World Maps Competition as well as the National Map Exhibition, see ICC 2011.
And, we have a new national member: Uruguay!

Proceedings of the ICC 2011 in Paris are online

The last International Cartographic Conference took place in Paris, France from 3rd to 8th of July 2011. The proceedings of this event are now available online via the publications section of the ICA website!

The ICC also hosted the 15th General Assembly of the ICA. The relevant changes to the ICA structure, especially the new Executive Committee of the ICA, will be reflected on the ICA website in the upcoming weeks.

Map of the Month May is from France and combines nautical and terrestrical maps

This month's ICA Map of the Month is the map SCAN Littoral® chart of the golfe du Morbihan (Brittany). It was published as a joint project between the French Navy Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (SHOM) and the French National Geographic Institute (IGN). It consists of a seamless merging of SHOM’s nautical charts and IGN’s terrestrial maps. At the last ICC in Chile it won the second jury prize in the category “hydrography or maritime navigational charts”.

This month's ICA Map of the Month is the map colletion Portolan Charts – The Medieval Representation of a Ploughed Sea (Les cartes portolanes. La representació medieval d’una mar solcada). It was published by the Inst. Cartogràfic de Catalunya. At the last ICC in Chile it was the “winner of the public vote”.

This month's ICA Map of the Month is The National Atlas of Spain (1986–2008): Facsimile digital version. The digital atlas was published by the National Centre of Geographical Information and the National Geographic Institute of Spain and won in the category “Digital Products (Maps and Digital images)” at the last ICC in Chile. Have a look at it!

ICA research agenda online

ICA Logo Download Section

The new logo download section offers files and guidelines for the use of the ICA logo. Files are offered as print and web versions in different color variations.
