It’s been a while and I really missed posting in this blog. Oh! Well… I was a bit busy during the last months but now, I’m back to feed this blog with more interesting articles that will benefit our troops.

Whenever I surf the net, I always make sure to browse some veterans-related forums and news sites to know the latest news about our veterans. More often than not, I learn a lot from them. Just reading their stories and the exchange of conversations makes me know them more.

For the month of June, I would like to pay tribute to an army wife behind the interesting and beautiful Homefront Six blog.

Just like other military related blogs I read, the Homefront Six blog has articles that are not just interesting but entertaining as well. I also personally like her random thoughts of the day that are mostly extracted from the bible.

Homefront Six is also a blog that commemorates our heroes by including videos and personal petition of prayers for those who have wounded or killed in action. I can simply feel for every word she wrote as well as the poems embedded in every post. This is actually one of the many blogs with a true heart for our service men. Her other blogs that I usually read are A Princess and a Little Man & Footprints in the Sand.

AMVETS (American Veterans) is a volunteer-led organization established by World War II veterans. This is one of the most respected veteran’s organizations in the country that provides support for veterans as well as active military personnel in acquiring their earned entitlements and services that can improve the quality of every US citizen’s life. This organization accepts honorably discharged veterans as members.

Here are more random facts about AMVETS:
1. They promote the interests of veterans including benefits and other programs that aim to help American veterans and their families.
2. This organization is also active in ROTC and JROTC wherein they present awards, scholarships, and savings bonds to qualifying cadets in a unit.
3. Their members include ladies-auxiliary, sons of AMVETS and Junior AMVETS

3.1 Ladies Auxiliary group include the wives, daughters, granddaughters, adopted daughters, mothers, sisters and grandmothers of AMVETS members.
3.2 Sons of AMVETS include the sons, grandsons, adopted sons, stepsons, brothers, grand fathers, fathers and husbands of AMVET members.
3.3 Junior AMVETS includes the under-18 children and grandchildren of AMVETS MEMBERS, Ladies Auxiliary and Sons of AMVETS Riders.

The United States is considered to have the most powerful defense amongst all countries of the world. The technology and weaponry that the military used defines the power of American government when it comes to war and defense.

Over the years, the United States has created remarkable inventions that made history. And two of its very important inventions are what we are using right now, the Internet and Global Positioning System (GPS).

All of us knew that the Internet was created primarily for military operation and communication. It was only released to be used by the public in early 90s. Now, we are enjoying the benefit of this technology including shouting to the world about our opinions as well as the opportunity to earn.

On the other hand, the GPS is the same with the Internet. As its name implies, it is used for locating positions. Now, this technology is used on our mobile systems such as cars and phones.

Other well known inventions that we are using now include digital computer, e-mail, programming language and a lot more.

There are thousands of civilians from different parts of the world including me who supports our country’s veterans in their own little ways. Most of them are included in a private group that is always active in providing beneficial programs to our men and women in uniform.

Such non-government associations comprise of establishments that offer preferred pricing benefits to the United States armed forces. And one of the recently announced benefits is the Boston Market deals in partnership with Veterans Advantage.

Boston Market is one of the most famous and favorite restaurants in the country. Their 550 branches are currently serving the 28 States of the country. Through Veterans Advantage membership, the service person can get 20% off their bill when they dine and eat in any Boston Market restaurant across the country.

This is Boston Market’s one way of recognizing the contribution of our service personnel and Veterans Advantage advocate to help them.

A Rose by Any Other Name is one of the many military-related blogs that I usually read. It has been in the www since mid 2006 according to its archives but I only became a constant reader of this blog since last year.

Just like Anna(the poster), I’m also patriotic and have sympathy to our country’s heroes. Her posts are truly eye openers and I especially like the blog’s portion of featuring the “Wednesday Heroes”. As a matter of fact, I would like to also make a category for the soldier that have been killed in wars as part of my recognition to them.

Aside from being informative, Anna’s posts are also very sympathetic and full of feelings. You can truly feel a lot from her writings. Her blog was also a finalist of the 2006 Blogs of Summer – a true measure of her significant contribution to the www.

Her last post was last May 7, 2009 and it has never been updated until now. It is actually my immense honor to have “ A Rose by Any Other Name” featured as one of the most influential and inspirational blogs about our veterans.

Since it is Mother’s Day, let us commend and honor the first ladies of our country. In history, there have been 44 Presidents who have served in the United States. Along with the presidents are their wives who have been a resident of the Whitehouse and have been mothers of this nation.

I learned this video from a military forum. It was indeed, a very touching video about the return of 19 US marines who have been killed in action on Makin Island in WWII. After 58 years, they have been found and finally took their resting place at Arlington National Cemetery.

I suggest everyone to watch the movie in full listen to every word of the narrator to learn and realize how these men fought for our liberty. Please continue to have them on your prayers.

Last April 22, 2009, the world celebrated the Earth Day. It’s a celebration and at the same time, a realization about what’s happening in the world. Many groups, private and government have gathered for this cause.

Global warming is indeed, felt in different parts of the world. While some of us are not yet directly affected by its effect, it’s still not a good reason to just feel relaxed and let the others do their part. We are all residence of Earth and we have obligations to take care of it.

Participation in taking care of the Earth should not be hard for us. We are not super heroes and I bet we can’t fly in the sky like Superman and use our eye to laser and see the problems causing this world to die. We can do our part in our own little ways.

There are many ways to do it but I would like to list down what I’m currently doing.

1.   Conserving water and energy. When I’m in the house or at the office, I always check the faucet if it’s sealed tightly. Also, whenever I leave the room, I always see to it that the lights are turned off and no other appliance is left running.
2.    Putting little trash in my pocket. This is really something worthy particularly when candy wrappers.
3.    Using tote bag. I always have my tote bag for shopping. This minimizes the use of plastic.

These are just ordinary things that I learned to live every day.  If each of us will do these simple things then we can definitely save and make this world live longer. We’ll be all benefiting, after all. Let’s do this for our future children.
