Might be helpful to many including IJC fans.

The menace of the future

Viruses are entities at the limit of living and non-living. Unlike bacteria, a virus can not feed and reproduce by itself; instead, it needs a host cell to accomplish these functions.

That's why they induce diseases; over 50 % of the human diseases and 90 % of the human infections are virus-provoked. A virus is made by a molecule carrying its genetic information (DNA or RNA) and a protein coating (in some cases). They lack crucial elements for an autonomous life, like ribosomes or cell membrane.

A virus penetrates inside the targeted host cell, and when it reaches its nucleus, this stops working on its own DNA and starts to produce copies of the viral DNA.

In case of RNA viruses, their RNA is turned into DNA and that DNA produces multiple copies of the viral RNA. A host cell can produce till 500 viral copies till it breaks out or simply dies off.

A virus will enter a human body through small skin or membrane (genital or mouth) lesions (like HIV, herpes virus or common wart virus), food (hepatitis A) or droplets (flu virus). Initially, a virus infects the penetration area, but after a time, it reaches all the body through the blood and lymph.

But not all the infected ones get the disease. Only 50 % of those infected by the measles virus suffer by this disease, and in the case of the poliomyelitis virus the rate is even lower: just 1-10 % of the infected develop polio.

Normally, children, those already ill, elder persons and pregnant women are more sensitive to viral attacks, but some viruses can prefer young and healthy people, like that of the Spanish flue, which killed 20-40 million persons in 1918-1919.

Highly contagious viruses must be avoided through quarantine. Another method of fighting against viruses is the vaccine. A healthy person receives a dose of deactivated virus, virus bits, or weakened viruses. The body will react as in the case of a real virus, and will produce specific proteins called antibodies.

If after that the organism enters in contact with the real virus, it already has prepared antibodies and immune cells and will begin an immune action. The viruses die soon and the person will not manifest any symptom. It must be mentioned that antibodies fight only against the viruses that the organism already knows (by vaccine or through inherited genetic information). Breathing masks and gloves can also help in case of epidemics (like SARS).

There is a difference between the healthy cells and the infected ones. That's why in the case of some viruses, researchers were able to develop drugs destroying the ill cells and at the same moment the viruses they carry, like in the case of herpes or hepatitis.

You must know that antibiotics attack just the bacteria; they are of no use against the viruses.

Along their evolution, people developed special immune cells, called killer cells, that locate and eliminate the infected cells, sometimes before the virus reach reproduction.

At the same moment, there are chemicals (interferon and interleukins) that alert the neighboring cells, still healthy, of the closeness of the virus.

Other barriers are represented by the special proteins of the mucosa membranes or the secretions of the respiratory tract, which can retain, for example, the flu virus. Fever is another protective factor: at temperatures that are too high, many viruses cannot multiply.

How can viruses avoid the body's protection?

By continuous mutation.

As its DNA is constantly changing, the human immune system can no longer recognize the typical viral structure. Some viruses modify so fast that they outrun body's defensive.

Usually, the viruses have a specific host (they live in just one or few species to which they are adapted).

But those with a high mutational process are able to jump to another species and produce the disease, and that's the way many new viruses appeared in humans, transmitted from animals, like HIV or SARS.

People can take viruses from animals by eating or touching infected animals or their secretions or through the air. This is favored when people and animals live together in small spaces, like in the case of SARS in south Chinese markets or by bush meat, the hunt in pristine places, teaming with new viruses that can jump to humans (and against which humans are defenseless), like it happened in the case of HIV.

When animal viruses enter in contact with human viruses (like flu virus) that transmit easily, and interchange DNA portions, can result new extremely powerful viruses that can inflict massive epidemics, like in the case of the Spanish flue.

That's the concern about the bird flue virus: whether or not it will interchange DNA material with the common human flue virus.

Source of article: News.softpedia.com

PBChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06090497910268674402noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5310144597331896801.post-79332849470690742652010-07-16T00:03:00.001+05:302010-07-16T00:16:51.497+05:30Please beware of a VIRUS in our lovely Comic World !
Dear All Comic Lover Friends,

For the past 4-5 years I have been associated with you all through Internet and blogs .. and my definite objective is to carry forward my childhood passion of collecting IJCs and to share them with you all through the comic blogs...but i have been noticing that the way VIRUSES infect out body, mind and computers, there has been VIRUS which has entered into our comic world and infecting us.

The most important quality of this particular VIRUS is that even if it has any rivalry with you or not, it always tries to attack you. For the past sometime this VIRUS has been attacking me and possibly others too.

This attack is not only on my personal life but also on illogical issues which hardly concerns me and which are as follows:

1. Whenever I have the talk of exchanging comics with anyone anywhere in India, this particular VIRUS warns them to be cautious during the deal.
2. He calls me a Drunkard.
3. He also calls me ugly and have a damaged face.
4. He also calls me foolish, selfish and unreliable, etc.
5. He says that I am responsible for the hike in the prices of the comics.
6. He says that I did not return his comics.
7. He also claims that he tore from his comics and gave me some front covers as a favour.

So friends, the VIRUS put above allegations on me and I would like to terminate it once and for all.

First of all let me tell you that after scanning this VIRUS microscopically, I failed to understand its nature and the characteristics.Sometimes I feel that he is a distorted and maniacal character of Alfred hitcock movie. Sometime he seems to me as a lethal poison.Sometimes a person who can go to any extent for money.

Secondly, let me respond to the above Viral attacks on me:

1. Friends, for the past few years I have been dealing with some of the very people like Zaheer bhai, Mr.Vikram, Sudhanshu Ambiye, Mr. walker, and others. I have dealt with them in the past and you can ask anyone of them about my intentions, honestly and character.I have sent comic scans on Prabhat bhai's and Zaheer bhai's blog and did a small effort to share my collection with you all.You can speak to them about it too.

2. yes, I drink. I am a 46 year old self-dependent person. I drink socially and occasionally and I am not an addict drunkard. NO ONE has the right to talk about my personal life with other and blame me for it.I am not a hypocrite.

3. I will send you a scanned copy of my picture soon, you can then decide how I look...but it is completely meaningless how I look. let me tell you that I met this VIRUS once and I think he looked more like a PIG and also behaves like one. Unfortunately, he has 2 hands and 2 legs and so we have to call him a human being, otherwise he is no less than a PIG in any which ways.

4. You can talk to anyone among our comic circle about this allegation.

5. 2 years ago someone sold me 70 comics @ 500/-.Even today some people are selling comics at very high prices which are some times beyond the reach of many, then I would like to know how am I responsible for hiking the rates.

6. I gave # 11 IJC(you know its value) to someone without any condition and on his very own he gave 2 gold keys, which I never had any interest in nor i collect them.I accepted them as a courtesy. After sometime he started asking me to return them because he wanted to give them to someone and in return he wanted to take Hindi asterix and sell them to someone else.Is he not a comic broker and a VIRUS who is only after money? He is such a Virus who cannot tolerate other's profit, especially when someone has put in his hardwork and trying to get some profits from it (like Sameer and others). He wants to maintain his monopoly and tries to back bite everyone.

7. Can you imagine that someone is so foolish that he will tear the front covers of his comics and give it to someone else, especially if he is such a selfish VIRUS who will not even give the dirt of his body for free? My friend Mr. walker will be giving me the front cover of a book because he has a spare cover only.

So my friends this is my humble request and a friendly warning to beware of such a VIRUS and think twice before you give his scans a place on your blog and his emails in your mailbox.

One more thing, don't be in a misconception that if this VIRUS has attacked Anurag, then why should we care about it, coz sooner or later it will harm you too and that I am sure coz it had already harmed many.

Let me know if you can Identify that name of that VIRUS.

Sincerely,

Anurag

********************************************************************

The creativity of some so called comics fans has given me some marketing lessons. When his friend Ray Moore served in the military during WWII, McCoy took over the responsibilities of illustrating the syndicated newspaper strip, 'The Phantom'. His wife, Dorothy, did the lettering. McCoy continued drawing the strip until his death in 1961, after which it was continued by Bill Lignante for a short while, and then Sy Barry. Seems, all are busy, only I'm free. Just kidding. :)))

Going to import here, all my IJC posts from books and comics blog (and will remove from their) - for your convenience. Mostly IJC posted by me were cover to cover. Number of IJC is added in every post as tag, it'll be helpful in search.

Before this post, this blog had
113 -English IJC,
4 - in English & Hindi both; and
4 in Hindi only.
There are approx 300+ IJC posted at BC blog . So almost half work will be done.

For me and many my friends, only first round is over. All blogs which provided at least one new IJC are very few, who are not aware about such blogs, can check my blogroll - and download available versions.

Till today, my plan is regularly posting better & new scans only.

Wish to know your opinion:

1. I started waiting next one from the day I got current issue. At that town, there was no chance to buy old issues. The only way to read old issues was collection of elder brothers of my friends.

With time I collected almost all issues starting from #295. But major part of collection is lost now. Never thought, I could see these again. When I found these at net in Aug 2007 in digital form, couldn’t believe. Where I'm living at present, finding English or Hindi comic is almost impossible.

Although B&C blog was launched on 18 Nov 2007, I started Indrajal posting since 14 May 2008, when again deficit of scans were recreated after regular flow by several blogs. Motivating factors were contributors and thousands Indrajal fan like me, who wish to collect or read.

And terror of PBC, later Munna Bhai started. Several times, I received letters from hardcore fans that they could not able to read due to floods of IJC, however always requested to continue.

Believe, time and tide never wait for anyone. There are many friendly persons who have nice collections, but can’t scan and share due to lack of time or any other reason. When friends are in mood to scan and share, why not try to achieve the target. When I started posting IJC, couldn’t guess in next 14-15 months we’d have all missing Indrajal. Ajnaabi, Ajay, Anurag, Anon (Indrajal), Raj, Venkit, Shekhar’s father and Shekhar are those friends who made it possible. KK & Mr. Walker (a new blogger) had supported with missing cover pages. Prashant Gupta & Vikram Singh are two contributors which scans I received through Ajay.

Two words about my Indrajal contributors:

• Ajnaabi: Amazing man who concentrates at missing and neglected, but good comics. Whenever he finds there is need to help always comes forward. I had started posting Indrajal with his 22 scans as the first post. Major parts of less popular heroes of Indrajal Comics are digitalized by him.

• Ajay Misra: His contribution to digital Indrajal is unmatchable. The major part of Indrajal at net are his contributions. Unmatchable speed of scanning. Helped with other scans – Deshi Guru, Shekhar’s father, Shekhar, Prashant Gupta & Vikram. Venkit says him, 'Vishm Pitamah'.

• Anurag: Most probably he has the biggest collection of Hindi Indrajal - 770 and many more English Indrajal and other Hindi comics. Whenever I request, he always finds time to scan in his busy schedule. His son is one of the top rank junior tennis players of India, he regularly travels with him.

• Anon (Indrajal): Wonderful person, even doesn’t tell me real identity. Contacted and in very short period flooded Indrajal. Encouraged me to start using Photoshop and guided in early stage.

• Raj: Nice cool person, started scanning & posting silently. First I found his scans at esnips, later found his blog. Whenever he has time scans and quickly posts. Always ready to help.

• Venkit: A new star who came in the light few months ago. Thanks to him, the major part of Bahadur comics is available as e-comics. Last Indrajal #V27N08 was scanned by him.

• Shekhar’s father: He is 80+, earlier helped with #16 Indrajal Comics, #58 cover page using a digital camera and this time, the cover of Mahabharata part 1.

• Shekhar: Last 2 scans we were expecting from another person, but due to unexpected reasons, didn't get on time. Shekhar ji (who has all Indrajal) had visited from USA 2 days ago. Ajay explained the situation, without a second thought he agreed to help. Yesterday, as he visited home, took photos and sent. Words are not enough to thank him. Ajnaabi finished editing these 2 Indrajal, 4.30 A.M. morning today.

• Mr. Walker: Came to know about missing covers of Mahabharata part1, quickly contributed.

• KK: Provided missing English cover pages of #V24N38, we were searching since a long time.

This blog exists since last 69 days.
