Those that know me personally knows that I am a stickler for well executed customer service. It doesn’t have to be great customer service, but it must be good none the less. When I’m out at restaurants pay attention to my waiter, when I’m at the doctor’s office I pay attention to how the nurses treat me and to my doctor’s bedside manner. All of this is important because not only am I paying you (or my insurance company is) for a service, but I’m also trusting you with something very important to me.

However, what I’m starting to realize is that customer service is now just two words and not really something implemented by companies. It’s not just about smiling, telling me to have a nice day, etc. It’s a way of presenting to me what you have to offer. Now maybe I’m wrong on this (don’t think so), but I know that I will eat at a specific restaurant just because the service is good. In fact, I’m considering to go outside of my insurance network to get some glasses just because I was provided with a person that was knowledgeable, and made me feel as if he/she was looking out for my best interest (maybe she wasn’t but it felt that way). Now maybe that is not powerful to you, but it is for most. Just Google or do a twitter search of customer service and see how many people you find complaining about horrible service or bragging about quality service.

So what’s your stand? Does customer service still exist? Am I asking too much to simply want quality service that I am paying for? Share your thoughts below in the comment section. I want to hear from you.

If you have been following this blog from day one you know that going back to work was, and still is, hard for me. As my son got older it became harder and harder to say goodbye every morning. He knows that mommy is leaving him and why would any child want their mom to leave them home, right? So what is a working mom to do? Well this mom does what any other working mom has to do. I try my best to suck it up, walk out the door with a sad and somber demeanor, or literally cry all the way to work. I have done the last one quite often.

Well the other day my 13 year old was sick. I didn’t know he was sick for a few days prior to this particular day. Luckily I was able to be home that day because my husband had to take our younger son to his check up. While home I made sure to give my older son the attention I was given by my mom when I was sick. I made him breakfast in bed, fed him his medicine and simply made sure everything he needed was at arms reach and let him know that I am here if he needs me. This particular day he was actually better than the previous days, but I couldn’t help but wonder about tomorrow. Suppose he wasn’t better by tomorrow? How could I leave my sick child home or with someone else? Do I have enough days at work that I could use so I can be available to my son? Many of you ask yourselves these questions any time your child get sick. So what do you do? How do you handle having to work outside of the home but wanting and needing to be there for your child?

Well my mind started to roam. I started to dream about what life would be as a stay at home mom? What are all the things I could get done, and would I really enjoy being a SAHM. Now by no means do I think being a SAHM an easy job but I could help but wonder would it make my current life easier? So below are my advantages and disadvantages of being a SAHM?

Working Mom vs. The Stay At Home Mom

Advantages:

Getting all my house chores done: My house is never clean all at once and it’s quite frustrating. Maybe as a SAHM I can get more done through out the house.

Overseeing quality of food: Currently my husband does the grocery shopping and his choices of food is not all that great. If I was home I would have the time to cook quality food for my family and myself and feel good about it.

Spending more time with the family: I would be able to spend more time with my little one and be home and available when my older son comes home from school

Having time to exercise: Currently I get no exercise time in. I could take my little one for walks or jogs or whatever I want.

Connect with other SAHM: I will be able to attend playdates, so that my child will begin making friends and I won’t feel alone.

Disadvantages:

Not being able to get my chores done: Because I’m home I may feel that I have all the time and may not get my chores done. Also, I simply may not have enough time to get every single thing done on my list

Not feeling like I have a sense of purpose outside of my home: Some women dream of being a SAHM and feel quite content running the household. Unfortunately that is not me. As much as I love my family I need a life outside of them. Which I’m sure is possible, but working makes it easier for me to connect with others besides family.

No longer feeling attractive: Since I’m home what forces me to dress up, get some exercise or do something to maintain my attractiveness. This is something I struggle with as a Working mom, but for me personally being home would make this harder for me.

Lack of my own money: I like having money and doing what I want with my own money. I would be nervous that the only income would be my husbands. I would probably still get a job just to bring in my own money, therefore making me a working mom again.

So those are just a few of the advantages and disadvantages for me when it comes to being a SAHM. Now don’t get all upset with this post if you are a SAHM. This not how I view SAHM or how I want other’s to view them. This is just what I will have to deal with. It may be completely different for other working moms.

So working moms, what are your thoughts? Have you thought about becoming a SAHM? What were some of the advantages and disadvantages?

As I mentioned before I will be posting less frequently over here due to some changes going on around me. Now that I am focused and I’m getting it together, I noticed that my rss feed wasn’t working. So this is simply a short post to see how things are working around here.

Be sure to stick around as I do some new things around here. I now have a monthly Working Moms Survival Guide Newsletter that I’m currently working on. Over to your right you will see the opt in form. Be sure to let me know what is your biggest struggle as a working mom. I’m also working on a special report just for us working moms.

So I’m still around, just getting it together!
