Watching cats experience things for the first time is truly one of the greatest joys.

We think that every single cat owner will agree on this one thing, and that is that watching cats react to things is simply one of the best things about having cats. Cats are so expressive. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. They make faces all the time, and we, as their experienced owners, know exactly what those faces mean. Of course, you get to see most of these reactions when your cats are itty bitty kitties. I don't think that I will ever forget the way that my tiny kitten reacted to seeing a computer screen for the first time, the way that she sat right in front of her screen with her tiny head tilted, following the motions of the mouse across the screen. I've found the coolest cat dad and his pawsome cat.

I can't express how much I love historical warfare and cats. Yes, these two things. I managed to make cats my everyday experience, with being a cat mom and writing right here on the greatest cat content hub on the internet, I Can Has Cheezburger. But historical warfare remained a distant hobby for me - I enjoy a lot of medieval reenactment accounts on social media, and I research what I can for running my D&D campaigns I play with friends. But here comes this absolutely cool cat dad and combines these two things: He's a swordsmith, and he adopted a kitten. So, naturally, he made his cat a sword. How cool is that?!

One of our favorite things about cats is that they do not let anything stop them. We humans are not always quite as strong. It's enough for one migraine to catch me off guard, and my whole day is ruined. Meanwhile, my cat, when she was sick, pretended that everything was fine for two weeks, playing around, causing chaos, doing everything normally, until she couldn't anymore. Until I caught her, red-pawed, with a fever higher than she has ever had. Cats don't let illness or disability stop them from living their best lives. A deaf cat will scream louder than any other for his breakfast. A blind cat will still play around and cause chaos just like any other. And tripod cats… probably don't even realize that they are one leg short of other cats, jumping around, playing, and doing as many shenanigans as they feel like doing.

The cat in today's story certainly didn't notice. Or maybe he just didn't care. Why would he? Everything in his life started working out purrfectly right after his operation. The following day, the right human found him and he got adopted into his forever home. Our cats are our family. They depend on us as if they are our kids. Most of them don't know anything other than the lives that we have given them. My cat, at this point, doesn't even hunt flies anymore. She used to. Used to hunt them down and snack on them when she was a kitten. Forget flowers. The best engagement gift this couple received had four paws and plenty of whiskers.

One life-changing moment turned into two when the Cat Distribution System decided an engagement deserved an extra surprise. On the same night a couple got engaged, they spotted a tiny kitten drinking from a puddle across the parking lot. They couldn't stop thinking about her, and when she was still there the next day, they knew they had to try to help.

Winning over the stray wasn't instant. It took three hours of patience, quiet encouragement, and letting her make the choice herself before she confidently walked into the carrier. That one small step completely changed her future.

A trip to the vet brought even more good news. At 10 weeks old, the kitten was healthy after receiving her first vaccines, flea and tick treatment, and dewormer. There were no late and long nights. No arguments or shelter holds. Simply a cat lover, some stray cats and an impending weather system that you inevitably bring them together once and for all.

Cat rescue stories are usually full of frustration. After all, to catch a cat who is stressed takes a whole heap of patience, and seeing as cats are often found in compromising positions such as being such on roofs and the like, their rescue can take an extraordinary amount of time. And even after the initial rescue the stray holds, vet visits and potential past owners coming forward to claim the cat do not allow for the cool and calming waters needed for a purrefect rescue story to take place.

Back in 2016, Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center came across a young bobcat that needed help. She had a strange head tilt, likely caused by some head trauma, and that simply wasn't right. Because of this, she could not be released into the wild. But that didn't mean that her journey was over. That didn't mean that she instantly lost her purpose as a bobcat. And her caretakers knew that and decided to help her find a new purpose - as a foster mother, helping other rescued bobcat kittens get ready to be released back into the wild.

The conservation center gets lots of rescued cubs, and the goal with each and every one of them, of course, is safe release into the wild. So, after they are done with bottle feeding, the cubs get placed in an enclosure next to Emma, and when the time is right, they get to meet her. "We'll open it up, and she takes those kittens in as if they are her absolute own, as if she gave birth to them."

"It's been amazing no matter how many kittens we give her, litter after litter, year after year, she takes them wholeheartedly and immediately starts bathing them and doing all the things that a wild bobcat mom would do," one of her caretakers explains. Thanks to Emma not having any interest in humans at all, the kittens she raises are also raised wild and wary of humans, giving them the best chance at a safe release. "We feed [Emma] every day. We always say that cats will be cats no matter what. Being different does not stop them from living their best lives all the time. A blind cat will still find a way to do shenanigans. A deaf cat will scream just as loudly as any other cat for his breakfast. My cat? My chonky cat who's been overweight and on diet food basically her whole life does not let that stop her from running at full speed across my stomach in the middle of the night. They don't know that things can be different. They just want to… cat.

And that is what happened to the beautiful kitten in today's story. He has a spinal injury that prevents him from using his back legs. But that doesn't stop him from wanting to be a cat. So, his caretakers built him a custom wheelchair to help him do that. And they said this:

"The base around it and the legs do start with cardboard, lots of tape, some zip ties. And then the legs weren't quite strong enough. Feral cats are often discussed amongst the cat lovers who frequently feed the felines in their area. It is a topic of hot debate with many feeling as though feral life is the cats inelieable choice, while others feel that feral cats simply do not know how good the indoor life can be and so sometimes it take a little coaxing to get them to buy into the concept. I cannot say where I stand on this issue as I believe cats are too unique to be put into any kind of categories. But what I do know is that the pawrents in this story were most concerned with being able to continue caring for the cat they had come to love. We all have choices in our lives. The more choices we have, the harder it is to actually come to any kind of decision. This can be both freeing and constraining, and sometimes a choice can hang over our heads so much that we are consumed with the question, even though we know the outcome won't matter. Like in the story below, a recent college graduate reconciles with the question of whether he should adopt the stray outside his dorms or not. He says the adorable thing has been roaming around his house in the past year, and he's going to be spending his gap year at home, and plans to go to grad school in a few months. He'll be going back and forth and doesn't know if it's the best time to adopt a cat.

The caveats are thus: first of all, he actually doesn't know if he's allergic. He has had some issues with cat dander in the past, but it isn't consistent. The other issue is that he's been feeding the cat for a year and she always stops by once a day. She is affectionate and loves with he gives her pets. He suspects that someone else is actually feeding her, which makes him question whether he should even take her from someone else. I love a chill weekend day with my cat, and silly cats are like the icing on top of it all.

That is unless they are lucky enough to get scooped up by a cat loving hooman. Which is pretty much what happened to the senior feline in this story who was initially assumed to be a feral feline. A product of being on the streets for a short while and her advanced age made this catto look a little worse for wear. But before long it would become apparent that this cat was actually once someone's fur baby and had spent most of her life enjoying the luxury life indoors. This of course was discovered when a chip was found in the cat and her original owner was contacted. But what came next was the tough part.

For days this original owner strung our rescuer along, promising to come and pick up the kitten. But as messages were left on read and time passed it appeared that no sort of pick up was going to happen. And this is a point we would like to touch upon. Of course it is understandable to feel ashamed that you cannot continue to care for your cat for one reason or another, and doubly so for dumping your cat instead of rehoming, and triply so when a rescue contacts you to come collect the cat you discarded. But we want to tell anyone out there who has been in this position, or might unexpectedly find themselves in this position that the best thing you can do for the cat is to be honest. Sure, it might come with some hate, but hopefully with your honest others will understand and at the very least quicker action can be taken to find the feline the purrfect home.

Dads aren't notorious for being involved, or overbearing, or necessarily emotional. But sometimes you find that rare father who wants to help, wants to talk, and who has the emotional capacity of anyone else. When it comes to saving animals, this instinct might kick in, just like it did in the story here below. This man does not like cats. He's not a cat person, and only tolerates his wife's cats. He was out walking the dog one day and found this little weak baby kitten on the sidewalk. She really was weak, and she didn't even move when they walked over to her. He didn't let his preconceived notions about cats or his opinion of them get in the way of right and wrong though. He doesn't leave anyone behind, no matter if they're cat, woman, child, dog, or pig. He scooped her up and took the little baby home.

The family is still deciding what to do with her, if they'll keep her or try to find a foster. But at least we know she's off the streets and in a better place, which is all we can ask for abandoned street cats. When you find a kitten in trouble, the best thing you can do it just take it home because you could be saving a life. They're also going to take her to the vet and check for a chip. This orange kitten may have started life alone, but he won't be growing up that way.

When a tiny orange kitten was discovered all alone near a parked firetruck, his rescuer hoped he wasn't the only one left behind. They searched the area repeatedly, looking for his mother and any littermates that might have been hiding nearby. Nothing. With no other cats in sight, the tiny kitten was brought to safety and given a fitting name: Chimney Smoke-Stack.

The next stop was the veterinarian, where everyone got the news they had been hoping for. Chimney Smoke-Stack was healthy and ready for his next chapter. His rescuer was already attached, but there was one obstacle. Bottle babies need constant care, and balancing full days between work and school made that impossible right now.

Thankfully, someone in the family was ready to step in.

The cruelty of some humans will never cease to amaze. Here we are, people who love animals as a whole and cats in particular, doing everything that we can to make sure that their lives are as good as they can be. Here I am, creating whole neighborly friendships over the neighborhood cats that I feed, meeting new people who care too, bonding over each and every adorable stray cat that walks into our neighborhood, taking them to the vet for TNRs, paying money out of my own pocket. Here is my best friend, fostering cats, helping them get ready for their forever homes, insisting that every cat get a truly good family. And I know that the people in our audience, the ones reading this right now, are trying their best to help in every way they can too. Because that is what decent people do.

And then, there are people like the ones in today's story. People who treat cats like trash and then abandon these cats like trash too. People who don't deserve to experience looking at a cat, let alone anything else. The kitty in this story did nothing to deserve being bred and abandoned. She was just unlucky enough to meet one of the bad humans. It's amazing that she didn't lose hope, that she actually went out of her way to find other humans and try to trust again. And it's just as amazing that this couple, two days before their wedding, amongst all the preparations and nerves, was ready to take this poor kitty in, adopt her into their home, and give her a real chance to learn what a real family means.

If a cat adoption story feels like fate, as if destiny made a specific person meet the one cat who needed a forever home - and they had their place in their house and heart to give them one - it's most likely true. Well, mostly. It's usually the work of the mysterious CDS - the Cat Distribution System. It's that strange and secretive order, or body, or organization (nobody knows!) that's made ot match the cat in need to the right person. The match is usually purrfection. And that's exactly what makes us think that this one orange shelter cat found his home through the hidden helping hands of the CDS.

You see, it's really not every day that a cat who's considered for euthanasia is saved in the nick of time because a vet tech finds him similar to her previous cat, who has recently crossed over the rainbow bridge. Was their fateful meeting a coincidence? Maybe. Is it too purrfect to be true? Perhaps. But is this a story worth telling because of the sheer happiness it can bring to any cat person who reads it? Absolutely. And this is exactly why we love to be the beacon of wholesome adoption stories, where cats find their forever homes, and the collective joy of the online cat community grows - one adoption at a time.

Maybe cats aren't so mysterious after all…

I'll admit it right away: I've always been a dog person. Growing up, I never really understood the appeal of cats. Dogs wear their emotions on their sleeves. When that's the only perspective you hear growing up, you don't really question it. You just assume cats aren't for you. Looking back, I realize I never gave them much of a chance.

As I got older, though, a lot of my friends became cat owners. Every time I visited them, I'd hear the same speech about how misunderstood cats are. They'd tell me their cat greeted them at the door, followed them from room to room, or insisted on sitting beside them while they worked. I was skeptical at first because it sounded suspiciously dog-like, but after meeting enough different cats, I started to understand what they meant. They're affectionate in their own way. You just have to earn it instead of expecting it immediately.

Even so, if someone asked me to choose, I'd still pick a dog every single time. That's probably never going to change. But I've also learned that cats have something dogs don't. They're effortlessly funny without even trying. The strange sleeping positions, the dramatic expressions, the random bursts of energy, and the way they somehow become the center of attention in every photo make them perfect internet celebrities.

Rainy days are no match for a little feline charm. One cat is puffing up in disbelief after touching a wet sidewalk, another is strutting around in a tiny raincoat like it's the latest runway trend, and somewhere a fluffy orange troublemaker is convinced the weather should apologize personally. If cats controlled the forecast, every storm would end after exactly three raindrops.

Tiny raincoats deserve a round of appaws all on their own. Bright yellow, cherry red, or covered in little ducks, they somehow make every cat look even more dramatic. The raincoat might say "ready for adventure," but the face underneath usually says, "This had better earn me extra treats."

A rainy afternoon is also prime time for embracing the cozy life. Blankets become five-star resorts. Windows turn into entertainment centers filled with birds, squirrels, and raindrops to keep a watchful eye on. Every nap somehow lasts a little longer, and every stretch becomes a full-body event worthy of admiration.

Then there are the fearless felines who decide puddles deserve further investigation. One cautious paw reaches out, touches the water, and immediately retracts as if the puddle committed a personal offense. The offended expression that follows is pure cattitude. Rain clearly wasn't part of their plans.

When the clouds roll in, cats remind everyone that staying cozy is an art form. A warm blanket, a dry place to loaf, and plenty of opportunities to judge the weather from indoors sound like a pretty purrfect plan. The rain can keep falling outside. Inside is where the real meowgic happens, complete with sleepy stretches, twitching whiskers, and enough fluff to brighten even the grayest day.
