Delivery driver? Suspicious. Neighbor watering plants? Needs further investigation. Plastic bag blowing down the street? Potential threat.

Window cats always look way too invested too. Some of them spend entire afternoons sitting behind curtains staring outside like retired old men keeping tabs on the block. One little noise and suddenly they are running from window to window conducting a full inspection of the neighborhood.

So many senior cats wait in shelters for years and years on end for their purrfect forever home. These senior cats are usually there for a reason. It is never the cat's fault, thhe cat's are always confused by their new situations, and them being in the shelters at this older age does not mean that they are "bad" pets in any way.

Seeing senior kitties in shelters is difficult enough, but what is even worse is seeing them on the streets. More often than not, stray cats don't live to a very old age. There are too many risk factors out there when they are trying to survive on their own. And those who do - the cats who make it to seniorhood outside - don't deserve to live out the rest of their days working to survive. We know it, and sometimes, they know it too.

The person here first met this little guy at the end of September 2025. He tells Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem that on the day he got his keys to his new house he saw this grey cat jumping onto the roof. He assumed it was the neighbor's cat passing by. Over time, he noticed the cat has been showing up in the backyard almost every single day, just happily chilling there as if it was his own. The person also assumed the cat was a stray because his coat was matted and rough, and he sometimes looked quite dirty. He also noticed how weary of people the cat was, and it always went on hyperalert mode when someone came up to it.

Although the cat was clearly skittish, they made progress together. He's in Melbourne, and the winter weather is here, which means the cat is less comfortable outside. He left some food for the cat to see if he would eat it. Then he got home from work and noticed the bowl was completely empty! He checked the security footage and was the little grey thing. He started leaving food every single day. Then he chose to kick things into action: he saw the grey thing hiding in darkness quietly watching him through the window while he did the dishes. He turned on the backyard lights and prepared some food and water. He went back inside and closed the window. He received a notification from his camera system that there was movement in the garage. He lives in California, so it could really be anything. Then he sees in the camera this little fluffy guy walking towards the dog's food bowl. He snuck outside, blocked off the open side of the garage and tried to find the kitten. He left a door open into the house in case the kitten wanted to run in there. Two hours go by and this guy's been running around. He takes a break and goes inside, and when he looks at the camera again he sees that the little guy has now gone in the opposite direction toward the standup fridge and freezer.

He knows the kitten is too small to set off the trap, but he ties a string to the trap door and ran it out the window on the other side. He then set up a camera pointed towards the trap so he could know when it was inside. An hour later, the kitten was inside eating again and this time the guy could pull the string and get him. He got him into the house and into a two story kennel ready for fosters (in case the cat distribution system blesses him). Meet Walter! He thinks that maybe the kitten is separated from his mom, but he plans on making the rest of their lives happy and together.

This family was driving three hours away for an event when the dad suddenly spotted a tiny kitten on the side of the road and pulled over. What started as a normal drive immediately turned into a rescue mission for one very smol passenger named Gizmo.

The family spent the next several hours trying to figure out how to help him. They called multiple shelters along the way, but none were able to take him in or they were already closed. Instead of giving up, they drove another extra hour out of town just so Gizmo could get checked at an urgent vet clinic. That kind of effort for such a tiny kitten says a lot about the people who found him.

Thankfully Gizmo turned out healthy, playful, and very easy to fall in love with. Why do people get cats? Because they want to live with a furry roommate who bosses them around all the time and occasionally likes to snuggle. That's pretty much the only reason. But there are many reasons why people adopt dogs.

In the past, people adopted dogs for safety and survival. Dogs used to help their owners hunt and protect them from dangers trying to enter their territory. Now, our doggos are about as useful for safety as a fork is for eating soup. They are great companions and purrfectly lovable, but they're not going to bark at an intruder - they're going to present him with their favorite toy and ask for belly rubs.

Sunny, the cat in Minh's story from Reddit's r/Pets subreddit, chose the latter. She was a stray cat that wasn't very trusting of anyone or anything. It took Minh months to gain her trust, even just enough to trap her. She didn't do it for no reason, winter was coming and Minh knew she wouldn't be able to survive alone.

Sunny didn't make it easy for her. She didn't like her new indoor life. She hid from Minh whenever she entered the room. But like all cats, with love and patience, she started opening up. One night, she decided to trust again, and from then on, Sunny and Minh were inseparable. It's a love story that's purrfectly superious to Romeo & Juliet, if you ask us.

She took Sunny to the vet, and got the worst diagnosis her vet had seen in 20 years. Cats may not solve problems, but they will absolutely supervise the crying session.

Cats have somehow become tiny furry therapists without ever getting a license. They always seem to know when their pawrent is stressed. Bad day at work? Suddenly there is a cat glued to your side purring loud enough to vibrate the entire couch. Crying in bed? Here comes a little emotional support loaf ready to sit directly on your stomach like that will magically fix everything.

The biscuit making really adds to the therapy session too. Cats will knead blankets, hoodies, legs, basically anything nearby while staring deeply into somebody's soul like little whiskered counselors. Half the time they are probably just hungry, but somehow it still works.

Tuesday was filthy, starving, confused, and clearly desperate for somebody to help her. It's not always easy to have two cats, but would you do it if it meant your cat was happier?

Sometimes our thoughts are more powerful than we realize, and lo and behold, there was a cat the next day. He had the windows open and his mom heard a kitten crying outside. Elton John, a 15-pound tuxedo cat, apparently decided very early on that Patio belonged with him.

Bengal cats are considered a luxury breed, and although their ancestors may have hunted out in the wild, they certainly don't belong in a Lowe's garden center. Especially if they're pregnant!

Just like Target, we always walk out of Lowe's with more than what we originally went in for. You can never have too many house supplies (you know you're old when you say this), but one thing we never expect to find in a Lowe's is a stray cat. Let alone a rare breed like a Bengal cat! That's what happened to our pawrent after she visited her local Lowe's garden center - she stumbled upon a beautiful pregnant mama cat, only one or two weeks away from giving birth, as posted in Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit.

Now, this pawrent already had a lot going on. One of her dogs was undergoing medical treatment and the other was in the middle of her first heat. That is already a lot, but she knew that she couldn't leave that mama cat to face the dangers of the outside world with newborn kittens. She saved her, found a dedicated bengal cat rescue, and arranged for her to give birth with a loving foster parent.

We're happy to announce that 'Willow' gave birth to four healthy kittens, two of which have been adopted by a friend, one by the pawrent's veterinarian, and the pawrent will probably adopt Willow and her leftover baby. Raising a cat is a cycle of happiness that never ends.

Every cat pawrent knows the endless amounts of joy their cat brings them. Cats bring so much happiness into our lives that it's sometimes hard to describe it in words. We can tell people who don't know about their precious purrs they do while resting on us, about how cats love sunbathing and get all toasty, about how they perk their tails up to say "hello, hooman, I see you there, and I love you."

Here at the ICanHasCheezburger offices, we have a tradition during the last lunch of the week to go around the table and ask everyone about their weekend plans. Sometimes you have to survive the neglect of others in order to be seen by the right person and given the life you deserve.

At least that is the case for this story of cat abandonment and subsequent adoption from Reddit's r/Pets subreddit. Though it is a style of story that we often come across in the cat rescue space. Usually, these tales are a result of a family not being comfortable with having their cat in the house, so the cat is forced to live outside.
