Some cats are just wilder than others.

There are cats who can sit on your lap all day long, only taking food and bathroom breaks because they have to - and then returning to steal some more of your body warmth (and your heart). But then there are the absolute demons, the spawns of satan who were probably pspspsed here during a dark summoning ritual. My cat is not like that. Sure, she has the occasional zoomies trip in the middle of the night, but she's not the complete ruckus mess some other cats are. My friend's cat, though… he's another story completely.

Way before I had a cat of my own, I took a vacation for a month, and it just so happened that this friend needed a place to stay. I sublet my room to her and her cat. She warned me he's a wacky one, and this wasn't news - I already heard the stories about him directly from her. The Prophet was his name. Well, Elijah initially, but the more character he's shown as he grew up, the more it became clear he needed his own title. So… Elijah The Prophet, yes? He's an absolute maniac.

When I came back home after the sublet/vacation period, I returned to a room I did not recognize. The curtains were rolled up above the window, the computer was on the highest shelf of my closet (yes, inside), and the office chair was shredded to pieces. That was the art exhibition The Prophet left me. Or, more accurately, his hooman. The chair thing was inevitable, but the curtains and my PC were thoughtfully well-defended. But with that being said, I don't think I'm about to host that crazy cat in my house ever again. At least the story I was left with is funny, as are all this cat's other stories.

Rehoming a cat, sometimes, is the kindest choice.

Generally, of course, we are against cats being rehomed. There are so many solutions to so many issues that can be found. Letting your cat go should always be the last choice. Because as smart as cats are, they are still just cats, and they don't understand rehoming. They just think that they were abandoned by their owners. But sometimes, when the problem is insurmountable, surrendering your cat is not only the right choice, it's also the kindest one.

We always say that people should adopt a cat when they are ready, when they have enough stability in their lives. If that stability is gone, and if it can't be brought back, then you should not have a cat. It's simple to understand, but it's not easy to do. Of course, people do it all the time. We could write stories about abandoned cats every day, and we wouldn't run out. The only thing that we ask is that if you have to do it, do it right. Don't throw your indoor cat onto the street to fend for themselves. Find them another home if you can, and if you can't, take them to a shelter. Would you give a band a chance just because every member was a cat?

I absolutely would. I'm in a neo-soul band, but unfortunately, none of us are cats. That would have been hilarious. In fact, we tried to make our bassist's cat part of the band, but his cat wasn't so interested. He ran away during every practice session and only came back for the food.

For a big part of my life, I enjoyed music as a listener. I grew up listening to other people's songs. I went through a pop era that revolved around Justin Bieber, a punk era led by Green Day, an alternative rock era with The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys, and an emo era with My Chemical Romance. These days, I'm also a Swiftie. As you can see, my playlists have been through a lot. But I hadn't made my own music until I started playing drums and joined a band in 2021. Becoming friends with my bandmates and making songs together changed my relationship with music. So for about five years now, we've been creating our own songs, which has given me another way to enjoy music. I can try cool grooves with my friends and help turn something we're playing around with into something interesting.

Musicians know that listening to your finished album is one of the most satisfactory experiences. We finally have the recorded result of all that time we spent making music together, recording, editing, producing... So after years of getting attached to other people's songs, it's nice to think that someone might discover ours and connect with them too.

It's Furiday night, and we're going out! We've spent all week looking forward to seeing our friends, getting out of the house, and having some fun. But as we're getting ready to leave, our cat is sitting by the door, looking suspiciously interested in coming along.

Now, most cats would probably hate the idea of a night out. They're perfectly happy staying home, sleeping on the couch, and enjoying having the entire house to themselves. But some kitties are surprisingly social. They love meeting new people, exploring new places, and getting involved in whatever their humans are doing.

And we have to admit, bringing your cat along on a Furiday night sounds pretty entertaining.

For starters, you'd immediately become the most popular person in your friend group. Nobody would care what you've been up to all week once they spotted a cat hanging out with you. Everyone would want to say hello, take pictures, and ask a million questions about your furry companion. You might as well accept that you're no longer the main attraction.

We also wonder what cats would think of our usual Friday night conversations. Imagine sitting around with your friends, catching up on everyone's latest drama, while your kitty listens from the next seat. They'd probably have some pretty strong opinions about everything, judging by the looks they give us at home.

Then there's the matter of finding somewhere comfortable to sit. We all know how picky cats can be about their favorite spots. You could find the nicest seat in the place, only for your feline friend to decide they'd rather sit directly on your lap. And once they've settled in, you're probably not going anywhere for a while.

The photos alone would make the evening worthwhile. We'd be taking pictures of our cats posing with everyone, looking around curiously, and generally being the cutest members of the group. Forget taking a normal group picture. We'd want the cat in every single one.

Naturally, we'd only bring along a kitty who's comfortable being out and about, with a secure carrier or harness and somewhere quiet to retreat if needed. Plenty of cats would much rather stay home, and we can't blame them.

I don't need to iterate on how cats enter every cardboard box they see, or literally any other small space they locate. But first - why do they even do that? In short, cats simply feel safe inside. Having an enclosed space around them, like a cardboard box, gives them a sense of security - however real or not. They also view these spaces as strategic vantage points to pounce on prey from - so basically a place to cosplay big cats. So basically it's just another proof that cats make no sense at all. Their logic is not logicing. But this is why we love them so much.

My cat found herself in the most ridiculous situations because of this internal drive she has to enter literally anywhere. To do the fits and sits even if she doesn't fit and cannot sit. She once got herself stuck behind the washing machine because she absolutely insisted this nook must be explored - she just had no idea how to get herself out. At another time, she got locked inside the pots and pans cabinet, which is protected by a child lock. It was open for one second, and she still managed to get herself inside.

But all of that doesn't make her experience with classic cardboard boxes any easier. That child lock I've mentioned? It's there for a reason. The reason being a 1-year-old roaming free in the house because she's been walking since she was 10 months old. Raising cats and kids together is not a simple task.

There are a lot of things about cat ownership that become so normal you quickly furrget how objectively weird they are. You scoop their bathroom business into a plastic bag multiple times per day, you spend money on furniture specifically designed to be destroyed, and you quickly learn the difference between their different kinds of meows. One can mean "I'm hungry" and another can mean "I saw a bug a few hours ago and you must know about it." You fellow cat pawrents know what I'm talking about.

And then there is feeding them meat. I don't think anyone likes it. All the wet foods have this weird smell that, even after 12 years of owning cats, I still can't get over. Don't even get me started on the ingredients.

Most longtime cat pawrents probably do not think very deeply about it every time they crack open a can. Cats eat meat, that is simply part of the deal. For one brand-new kitten owner, though, that realization caused something of a moral meat crisis.

With shy cats, patience pays off more than anything else.

We, as humans, have a certain understanding of what love looks like. And whether we do it on purpose or not, we apply that understanding to our cats as well. Now, with dogs, it's simpler. Their way of showing affection is very obvious, it's very in your face. With cats, it's not quite that easy. Some cats are total velcro cats. They are all about physical contact. They will cuddle with you and climb up on you, and if you don't pet them at least 116 times a day, they will riot and directly on your face. But most cats are not like that.

Cats have their own love language. Cats show affection by slowly blinking at you. They show affection by turning their back on you, by sleeping next to you, by spending long stretches of time in the same room as you. And we know- that's not the same as cuddling your cat. Of course it's not. But their expression of love is no less valid than yours.

And then, there are shy cats. And shy cats, ones who are a little scared of humans, a little wary of letting their guard down, they show affection in their own ways as well. They do it in small ways, slowly warming up to you. We can't tell you the exact way. It's up to you to pay attention to them and learn how they show love. And you have to appreciate those little things just as much as you would a cuddle session. Maybe once you do that, once they feel comfortable enough with you, they will learn a little about your love language as well.

Fall is the purrfect time to sit back with a hot cocoa and soak up the silence.

Fall is different than summer. And not just in the obvious ways. We're not talking about the cold and the rain and the sweaters and pumpkin spice things, though all of that is nice too. We're talking about the vibes. People are… calmer during fall. Everything is a little bit quieter. Summer is sunny and loud. Fall is generally not. It's cold enough for us to want to walk around wrapped up in blankets, so people don't stay out quite as long, rushing from one indoor place to another. Getting a second cat is always a bit of a gamble. Have you ever had a cat with attachment issues? Cats are not usually very clingy, but sometimes they choose their hoomans as their safe space.

When an animal has been abandoned, it's usual for them to have trust issues in relation to human beings. After all, they were the ones who abandoned them in the first place. Both cats and dogs alike can be scared, reluctant to trust and jumpy before any kind of strange noise.

I've seen rescued cats and dogs behaving in the same way. The first week my kitty was at home after she was rescued, she was terrified. She opened her eyes round and wide as two full moons; her ears were always up, and she turned her head form one side to the other. All she did was cuddle in the couch and sleep, and every time someone made the smallest of noises, she would run away and hide under the couch. We couldn't even open the front door without her getting scared and hiding. It took her a few weeks to get used to the sounds of the house, and even months to start trusting us an behaving like a regular cat. She wouldn't meow at first either! She was so silent, as if she was afraid thta, if we noticed she was there, we would hurt her. It breaks my heart to remember it, but luckily, now she's all better.

Watching the Cat Distribution System work its magic is like looking at the most heartwarming magic show in the world.

Nobody knows how the Cat Distribution System actually works. Not even we here at the I Can Has Cheezburger HQ. But they (it?) have three parts to their name, so I'll try my best to explore and explain what the CDS actually is in three parts - just like the three cats it sent to this one woman below.

Firstly, cat. When you talk about the CDS, you talk about cats. There are plenty of cats in need out there on the streets - some are hungry, others are suffering extreme weather conditions, and other cats deal with all of these while also giving birth to kittens outside. That's a crazy thought to hold, especially if you're a cat lover. For me at least, it's hard thinking there are cats outside right now that might need help that I can't give them at the moment. It breaks my heart a little.

Secondly, distribution. The CDS doesn't just deal with cats - it sends them where they need to go. Or, you know, it distributes them. Somewhere out there, there's a human who will give a cat a forever home, and that might just be this specific human and that specific cat. And that distribution part is what makes this matchmaking take place. But how do they know to match the right cat to the right person, and vice versa?

That's where the third part comes in, the system. It's not random, despite it being seen as such. Take this one woman who tells her CDS story below - it seems like such a coincidence that she'd be chosen for a match three times, but that's not a random chance at all. This is the CDS at work. You see, she already had five cats, which immediately flagged her as a safe space for cats on the CDS side. Each cat has their own unique and ever so slightly hilarious way of showing affection.

I did not grow up with cats. Despite that, I thought that I knew cats. I always loved them. Pspspsing cute stray cats was one of my favorite activities forever and always. And I did know a lot. But not everything. Of course, a bunch of things ended up surprising me. The fact that cats have purrsonalities - like, the fact that they are really opinionated and like making sure that we know their opinions. The fact that cats are smart - that they learn our patterns and use that knowledge against us all the time. And the fact that they even though cats hate vet visits, they love giving us heart attacks sometimes and forcing us to take them.

But one thing about cats that I thought was obvious that ended up taking me by surprise is that cats show affection in all kinds of silly ways. I knew about the meaning of slow blinking, and I knew that if a cat comes to cuddle you, that's basically a declaration of love. I did not know that them showing you their bootie is a sign of affection. I didn't know that my cat sleeping by my feet in bed is them showing love. For my cat specifically, I didn't know that her running to greet me when I come home is a way of showing affection until I realized that she only does it for me and no one else. And for Rotisserie Chicken - the kitty in today's story… showing love means being a rotisserie chicken.

We have a theory that everyone is secretly a cat person. Some people just haven't met the right cat yet. You can spend your entire life insisting you're a dog person, but all it takes is one adorable little face to make you reconsider everything you thought you knew about yourself.

Of course, we understand why some people are hesitant around cats. Unlike dogs, who tend to make their feelings pretty obvious, cats can be a little harder to read. One minute they're rubbing against your legs, and the next they're looking at you like you've committed some terrible offense. Their affection often comes on their own terms, and earning their trust can take a little patience.

But that's also part of what makes getting close to a cat so rewarding. The first time a shy kitty approaches you for attention or decides your lap is a safe place to sleep, it feels like a pretty big accomplishment. Suddenly, you're celebrating every little purr and head bump like you've won some sort of award.

One lifelong dog person recently discovered this after spotting a shelter cat named Alfredo, or Alfie for short, on Facebook. His sad little face convinced them to leave work early and rush to the shelter just thirty minutes before closing. They applied to adopt him and brought him home that same day.

If you think your conversations at home are private, you clearly don't have a cat. These nosy little creatures have a habit of appearing whenever something interesting is happening, especially when it doesn't involve them. Whether you're gossiping with a friend or having a serious conversation, there's a good chance your feline roommate is listening.

Cats are naturally curious animals, and they seem particularly interested in whatever their humans are doing. You could spend hours trying to get your kitty's attention, only for them to suddenly become fascinated by you the moment you pick up the phone. Hearing one side of a conversation is far more entertaining than playing with the expensive toys you bought them.

Some cats aren't particularly subtle about their eavesdropping, either. They'll sit directly beside you, ears twitching, staring like they're waiting for someone to mention their name. Cat person or not, seeing stray cats in need always moves something in people's hearts.

I was not always a cat person, but that changed when I started living with a cat. The cat was not mine, he officially belonged to a roommate I lived with when I was a student. This is the cat that made me warm up to cats, the previously self-described "dog person, but cats are also okay I guess". It made me love cats so much that I adopted my own cat, my beloved Cassie, whom I held in my arms for the first time when she was a month-old kitten. She's seven now, and the queen of my heart.

But that's the meowgical power of cats over people. They might not be "cat people" like us - dedicated fans and feline fanatics - but their hearts are opening up to the possibility. And that's how cat people are made, just by being around cats, learning to live by their side, or seeing that they're in need. This latter option is what this one woman experienced and shared with the broader online feline family - she was not a cat person. Have you ever tried to introduce a new cat to your current cat?

Well, I've tried, and let me tell you, it's not as easy as people think. At first, you're so excited because you think, "My furbaby won't be alone anymore when I go to work; he'll have a companion!" But then you realize it's not all rosy in the garden.

You see, cats are very territorial animals, whether in the wild or as one of our fluffy pets. They consider their territory their own, and they can feel threatened and feel the need to protect and defend it if another cat trespasses. Granted, not all cats are so dramatic, especially not domestic ones. In my experience, most of the time they'll just be annoyed and indifferent to the new cat for a while. Then they just start tolerating each other while pretending the other one doesn't exist. Basically, that's what I did in high school with my classmates. No wonder my boyfriend says I have the purrsonality of a cat.

Either way, what happened with my cats was something along those lines. For context, my grandmother and I live next to each other, and she has a cat who loved coming to visit. She would eat here, sleep in my bed, walk around and explore the whole place, and basically treat my house as her own. But then, one day, I brought home my current cat. It was all from one day to the next, so there was no time to try an adaptation process. My grandma's cat was not happy. She didn't attack or anything; she's not aggressive, but she refuses to come inside my house now and hisses every time she sees my cat. I'm a little sad about it, but I still get to see her when walking in the yard, when I go to Grandma's house, and I know she's well taken care of.

When a cat adopts you, resistance is futile. Especially if it's a gigantic orange cat that bites French people.

I have mixed feelings about cat cafés. On the one hand, I love having a place outside my own home where I can be surrounded by cats, and on the other hand, I feel bad for them.

The good news is that cat cafés have improved a lot in the last couple of years. When they first started, they were basically a petting zoo for cats. No one really cared for the cats' needs, as they were merely a means to bring customers into the café. Now, the purpose of most of these cafés is for cat adoption instead of being entertainment for people while they dine or sip on a cup of mediocre coffee. Of course, there are still some cafés that use them as a tool, so always do your research before visiting a cat (or any animal) café.

Sometimes, people go there for the purrpose of finding a cat to adopt, while others, like the visitor in our "story" today from Japan, actually end up getting adopted. Simply coming in for a cup of coffee, they were warned about a purrmanently grumpy orange cat who had serious cattitude. He was notorious for knocking drinks off of tables and apparently biting French people. How he knew they were French, we have no idea, but apparently, he knew.

After a fair amount of warning, the menacing ginger cat actually climbed into their lap and started purring. Needless to say, the staff were shocked. They demanded the visitor take him home, even to the point of practically shoving adoption papers into their hands before leaving.

Even if this story is a well-written joke, there's still a lesson in there that we could all take home with us: don't judge cats by their appearances. Some of the "grumpiest" cats I've ever met have been the biggest snuggle bugs as soon as they meet their purrson and find a place they finally feel safe. And, as always, when a cat chooses you, your fate has already been decided for you. That's just the way the Cat Distribution System works.

But when the weather becomes way too much, it's important that cats stay in a safe space until things calm down outside, whether from the cold or the heat. And that's especially true for when we feel the bad weather ourselves - if we're cold, they're cold. If we're hot, they're hot. And if a Super El Niño ravages the Pacific, it doesn't affect only humans. And people really do feel its effects as we speak - severe droughts, massive floods, and record-breaking global heat. This is serious.

But even amidst this serious event, a little silliness shines its light. And of course, no wonder it has to do with cats. One woman experiencing the effects of this current Super El Niño also experiences migraines - which is an annoying thing in and of itself. But some migraines are so strong they can affect your eyesight - which is exactly what she thought was happening when she saw her cat just doubled. Do you know what a home is?

Bruce's new human asked him that question, and it made me think about how I would answer. Watching the newly adopted cat purr through his first night home and fall asleep hugging his human's foot made me think of the relief I feel when I'm tired and know I have somewhere familiar to come back to. Even before I get there, thinking about home helps.

To me, home means a future. It gives me the stability to think beyond the day. I know I have somewhere safe to sleep tonight, so that leaves room to consider what I want for myself tomorrow. I can start something, leave it unfinished, and come back to it. I can make plans knowing I have a place to build them from.

I get the feeling of "home" even when I'm not there. On the way home, I begin thinking about making dinner, putting on something comfortable, and settling in for the evening. In between space outings, I would drive my expensive car to fancy restaurants, order whatever I wanted, and go home and play video games until the sun rose.

Spoiler alert: none of those things actually happened. As you mature, you realize that being responsible for your own life isn't all it's cracked up to be. Adulting means making sure you pay your bills on time, going to the grocery store to make sure you have food in your fridge, cleaning out your cats' litter boxes, and waking up at 7 AM to get to work every day. Where was all that freedom we dreamed of? Was it all a lie from the very beginning?

The answer is no; it's not a lie, but it's not exactly the truth either. See, I could decide not to go to work and do whatever I wanted, but then I would have to deal with the consequences of those actions. You see, adulting is about finding joy in between the meowments of responsibility you take on throughout your life. I found my source of joy in adopting my cats. They give me a reason to wake up every day, they make my meowrnings full of love (and screaming), and they make me excited to come home every night.

As a cat owner of a very lazy, very spoiled house cat, one of my worst nightmares is my cat running away. Because I know her. And I know she won't make it. Our trips to the vet are something awful. The moment she is out of the house, she starts making noises she never makes otherwise - screaming like those stray cats in fights that we hear outside sometimes. She only likes the outside when it's on the other side of a window. Then, she's happy. Loves watching birds, loves listening to the sound of cars, loves sniffing the fresh, crispy air. 24 hours would be the longest she would make it outside. Then, she would come back. And that's not just a guess, or a joke. I know that for a fact. Because it happened.

There is no lesson to this story. I was lucky that she found her way back to me after 24 hours, and I'll tell you exactly how amazing and unlikely that was in a moment. If there is anything that I would like you to take away from this story, it's this: If your cat runs away, don't give up. Keep looking for them. Keep listening. For as long as you can handle it. I believe that pets are one of those lovely life coincidences, a serendipity, if you will. We love animals because, how could we not? They're the best part of inhabiting this planet. But it's not like we're constantly looking for a new pet or a new animal to be friends with. Those come into our lives unexpectedly and just get there to make everything better and provide us with a much-needed dose of furry happiness. We can be walking down the street or driving in our car and suddenly hear a faraway barking or a high-pitched meow. In those moments, we can't just ignore it: we have to know where it's coming from and what defenseless creature needs our attention. That's pretty much how the Cat Distribution System works: finding kitties at random moments and feeling so in love with them that we have no choice but to take them with us. It's a win-win type of situation: we get a lifelong companion, and they get the love of a family. What could be better than that?

I know what I'm talking about because that's pretty much what happened to me. My cat got into my life in the most random moment ever, and exactly when I needed her the most. My friend texted me on a Wednesday, telling me she and her husband were fostering a kitten they couldn't keep and asking if I could take her. It was so out of the blue that I didn't even know what to say, but after a little while of thinking about it, I could say nothing other than yes.

For this guy, it was pretty much like that. He was walking down the street when he found a small furbaby out and alone in the cold. He took it home with him, and soon became the best of friends!

You never know what you're going to come across on your way to work. Maybe there's an unexpected traffic jam, a dog wandering around the neighborhood, or, in one person's case, a cat walking across the street with a can of SpaghettiOs stuck on her head. That's certainly one way to make sure someone's morning commute doesn't go according to plan.

Cats have a talent for getting themselves into situations that leave us wondering what on earth they were thinking. They'll squeeze into impossibly small boxes, stick their heads into bags, and investigate just about anything that smells interesting. Unfortunately, their curiosity occasionally gets them into trouble, especially when food containers are involved.

We have no idea how this particular kitty ended up wearing a spaghetti can, but we're glad someone spotted her. The driver stopped to help and managed to remove the can, fully expecting the cat to run away afterward. Instead, she turned out to be an incredibly friendly little lady who seemed perfectly happy to accept some human attention.

Leaving her on the street wasn't an option. The rescuer called their boss to explain that they'd be late to work because they'd found a stray cat. We wonder how often that excuse comes up! We'd certainly have a hard time getting back into our car and continuing to the office after meeting such a sweet kitty.

The cat has since been given the wonderfully appropriate name Sketti Noodle, which might be one of our favorite rescue cat names ever. Considering how she was discovered, we can't imagine calling her anything else.

For now, Sketti Noodle is staying in the rescuer's bathroom, separated from their resident cat. She's already had a bath, and although no fleas were spotted, her temporary caretaker plans to check her more carefully with a flea comb. They've also posted about her in a local lost-and-found pet group in case someone is searching for her.

We're curious whether Sketti Noodle has a family somewhere who would be thrilled to have her home. She's clearly comfortable around people, although that doesn't necessarily mean she isn't a stray. Hopefully, the lost-and-found post helps answer that question.

In the meantime, this little lady has somewhere safe to stay, a human looking out for her, and a name she'll probably never live down.

During weather disasters, humans are not the only ones who need help.

Natural disasters are one of my biggest personal fears. They come out of nowhere, there are few ways to prepare, there isn't really anyone to blame, and they are always devastating. Floods are like that. Over the past few months, some of the flooding footage that we have seen has been amazing - in the purest meaning of the word. It has left me amazed. Lives turned upside down, washed away, changed within a moment. We look at the people, the structures, but I don't think that most people think about the beautiful wildlife experiencing the same disasters too.

Being a stray newborn kitten is hard enough as it is. Having to learn how the world functions so early and so quickly, just to survive, is hard. Having to do all of that during a flood… impossible. The itty bitty kitten in this story never had a chance to learn. The flood came out of nowhere, he was swept away, and finding her family within all that madness, when he still needed his momma there for basic needs like food, was not something that he could do. That's where we have to come in. People like us, people with compassion for animals, we can try to help. We won't be able to save them all, but every life saved is one worth celebrating.

Sunday is here, which means it's time to start thinking about the weekend. Yes, we know it's only the beginning of the week, but is there really anything wrong with having something to look forward to? We always start the week with big plans for the weekend ahead. Maybe we'll finally try that restaurant everyone's been talking about, catch up with friends we haven't seen in ages, or take a little day trip somewhere fun. There's also that growing list of things around the house we've been meaning to get done. Surely two whole days will be enough time to squeeze everything in.

Our cats, however, have a completely different idea of what makes a good weekend. Their ideal schedule involves breakfast, a nap, a second breakfast if they can convince us, and several more naps in various sunny spots around the house. Throw in some cuddles and a few treats, and they've got everything they could possibly want. We could probably learn a thing or two from their approach to relaxation.

The trouble with weekend plans is that they always sound so much more appealing when they're several days away. On Sunday, we're convinced we'll have enough energy to go out and do something exciting. By Furiday afternoon, the idea of changing out of our pajamas might already feel like too much effort. Suddenly, spending the evening on the couch with a cat curled up beside us sounds like a much better option.

Of course, there's always the possibility that we'll actually follow through with our plans this time. We might wake up early, get dressed, and venture out into the world for something other than groceries. Our cats will probably be waiting by the door when we get home, ready to remind us that we've been gone for far too long.

For now, though, we've still got an entire week to get through. There are emails to answer, errands to run, and responsibilities that unfortunately won't take care of themselves. At least we can daydream about all the wonderful things we'll do when Friday finally arrives.

Whether those plans involve a packed schedule or absolutely nothing at all, we're already counting down the days.

It's pumpkin season, and cats are getting in on the fun! While the rest of us are busy decorating our homes for Halloween, some curious kitties have discovered that pumpkins make pretty great places to hang out. We have to say, they're making a strong case for being the cutest Halloween decorations around.

Cats have always had a thing for climbing inside anything they can fit into. Leave an empty cardboard box on the floor, and your kitty will probably be sitting in it before you've finished unpacking. Laundry baskets, shopping bags, and bathroom sinks are all fair game, too. So it makes sense that a hollowed-out pumpkin would catch their attention. It's basically a seasonal cat bed, although we're not sure how comfortable it actually is.

There's just so much to love about a little feline face peeking out of a pumpkin. The tiny ears, the curious eyes, and those whiskers sticking out over the edge make for an adorable sight. Some kittens are small enough to fit their entire bodies inside, while bigger cats have to settle for poking their heads through the opening. Either way, we wouldn't mind having a few of these little pumpkin dwellers decorating our homes.

We have to give some credit to the hoomans who manage to capture these moments on camera. Anyone who's tried photographing a cat knows that getting them to cooperate isn't always easy. You can have everything set up perfectly, only for your kitty to decide that the pumpkin is much more interesting from the outside. Maybe they'll give it a sniff, bat at the stem, or wander off before you can take a single picture.

Even when a cat does decide to climb inside, there's no guarantee they'll stay there long enough for a photoshoot. Catnappings do not happen all too often in this world thankfully, but when they do their effect is devastating. The relationship we build with cats is an incredibly deep and special one, even if we have just met and when the pawrent in this story saw their tiny kitten being scooped up right in front of their eyes and bundled into a car that sped off, well, you can imagine just how heartbroken they were. But it would turn out that their heartbreak about losing their cat would be the very thing that would come to save several animals and children who were in need of saving. It all came undone when our pawrent, with the help of social media savvy friend managed to locate the person who committed the clawminal offence of stealing their kitten. Upon arriving at their home the two were greeted with several animals of all different kinds living in filth and squalor in the person's front yard as well as a house that was in a state of disrepair. And while it was not all too difficult for them to get their kitten back, they had a feeling that there was more to be done and that is when they inquired as to whether there might be kids living in these terrible conditions.

Now sure, sometimes it is not our place to get involved in the lives of other people. Most people are just trying to do their best and no one is perfect in this world. But falling short of perfect is rather different to subjecting the creatures and kids in your care to sub-par conditions. After all, you are responsible for their wellbeing and while they might not have the latest toys, gadgets or even enough space. All a nurturing home needs is the care and comfort a pawrent can provide. But in this case it was clear that the pawrent was not well enough to see the mess they had made and was likely causing more harm than good overall.

And in a situation like that there is no looking the other way or hoping that you have misunderstood the situation. Which is what prompted this hooman to brave the consequences and make the call that no one wants to make. So if ever you find yourself in such a position, know that it is ok to make the first move and that while it might be tough, it is often for the best. You may save much more than just the cats and critters you see.

The subject of what to do with stray cat populations is a contentious one and this story spells out a significant part of the problem surrounding the topic. There are many opinions of what is best to do, but ultimately laws, resources and the luck of having hoomans who are willing to help dictate what happens in reality. Which is how our story begins in a country where TNR is illegal and with a cat lover who took it upon themselves to trap, spay and put more than 20 cats up for adoption. Setting them up in a safe shelter until their furever home comes along. But when this thoughtful hooman was confronted by a local cat lady who was convinced our reducer was 'stealing' her cat children, well, the whole story took a turn for the strange. It turns out this woman had been hoarding these street cats in her home trying to fill the hole left in her heart when her husband had passed.

The woman was understandably attached to the kitties. After all, it is all too well known that when people happen to lose someone they often replace them, or at least attempt to do so with the introduction of a cat child. And while many do so with only one or at most two felines, there are some people with a lack of impulse control and a desperate need for warmth and love who will do things that most of us feline fans feel is unreasonable. The problem is that they do not see this for themselves. They are blinded by the intense urge to fill the void in their souls, their missing piece, and when they get a pawsitive feeling from doing so once, they are often inclined to keep doing it to get that same rush. It is a serious mental health issue and one that ultimately affects the felines for the worse as they deserve the safe, cleanliness and lack of competition that comes with living in a one or at most two cat house hold.

This story truly highlights that in our own minds and worlds as long as we are doing something, we often feel as though we are doing the right thing. But in reality the right thing can be many different things and we remain blinded to the reality of what we are doing. So if you are one of the wonderful people who do whatever they can to help cat kind, just take into account that not everyone is going to agree with your decisions. Not everyone is going to believe that your way is right, and they may be right, they may be wrong. The only responsible thing you can do in the situation is to take accountability for whatever mistakes you make come to light and remember that above all else you are trying to help the cats. The operative word being trying. So try your best and hopefully there is something for you to learn from in this story.

Calling cats evil is a pretty serious accusation, especially when most of them spend their days sleeping in sunbeams, begging for snacks, and trying to squeeze themselves into cardboard boxes. Sure, they can be little troublemakers, but we're not convinced that knocking a glass off the counter makes someone a villain.

Someone on X recently stirred up some feline controversy by announcing that they hate cats. Their reasoning? Cats are evil, they don't care about their humans, and there's apparently no point in having one. That's quite a lot to say about an animal you don't even like! As devoted cat pawrents, we have a few objections, starting with the idea that cats are incapable of loving their humans.

Anyone who's had a purrticularly clingy kitty knows how far from the truth that can be. Some cats won't even let their humans use the bathroom alone. They'll follow you from room to room, demand to be held like babies, and scream outside a closed door until you let them in. Try explaining to one of those cats that they supposedly don't care about you.

Even the less affectionate kitties have their moments. Maybe your cat isn't interested in cuddling all afternoon, but they'll still come curl up beside you when you're watching TV. They might spend most of the day doing their own thing, then appear at bedtime and insist on sleeping against your legs. Not every cat is a lap cat, and that's perfectly fine with us.

We also find it funny that cats get criticized for being independent. They don't always want attention, they aren't particularly interested in pleasing everyone they meet, and they'll happily walk away when they've had enough. Frankly, we respect the confidence. Imagine being able to leave a social gathering simply because you've decided it's time for a nap.

As for the claim that there's no point in having a cat, we're not sure what kind of job these little furballs are supposed to be doing. They're pets, not employees! We don't expect our cats to contribute to the household bills or help with the dishes. Their responsibilities are mostly limited to being adorable, keeping us company, and making us laugh until our stomachs hurt.

People are free to prefer dogs, birds, or no pets at all. But millions of cat lovers have experienced a side of these animals that goes well beyond the grumpy stereotypes.

How did I visit Amsterdam and miss a boat full of rescued stray cats???

I wish I'd known about De Poezenboot sooner. The name means Catboat and refers to Amsterdam's floating cat shelter. The owners describe it as the only floating cat sanctuary in the world. Now my question is: why are we tourists visiting the Van Gogh Museum and not this shelter? I would have gone straight there if I knew about it. The works of art are of a different kind, but still, I bet tourists walk out of the place equally astonished by the cuteness.

According to its official history, it all started back in 1966 when a woman named Henriette van Weelde found a mother cat and her kittens beneath a tree opposite her home. She took them in, and more cats followed, including animals whose owners could no longer care for them. She was soon recognized as the "cat lady" in the neighborhood. Two years later, she was running out of room for the animals, so she came up with the coolest idea ever: buying a boat for the cats so they could live there. Yes, she bought an old Dutch sailing barge and turned it into a cat shelter. If people can live in boats, why can't cats? Some volunteers joined her, and the Catboat Foundation became official.

There is no better way to start a Saturday morning than with a whole bunch of happy cats.

We all know, in our purrsonal experience as cat owners, that our cats' lives are… pretty pawsome. Of course our cats have no idea. They don't know what the lives of stray cats look like, so they don't know how to appreciate what they have. They complain about their bowls being empty of their very expensive fancy food. They refuse to use their litterboxes if there is even one little bit of bad smell.

These spoiled cats act like they live the hardest lives in the world. And we still love them. In fact, their little purrsonalities are what make us love them more. And it doesn't matter. We know how good their lives are. We know that one of the best things that you can do for any cat is simple… to adopt them. And newly adopted cats know that too. These cats, unlike our spoiled babies, still remember their lives on the outside. So, they actually show joy at all the little things that we provide. For a while. Until they get comfortable. Until they believe that you won't throw them out onto the streets again. And then, the shenanigans begin, their real colors show, and we grow to love them even more than we did before.
