When a kitten is as fragile as Pluto, even gaining a couple extra grams can feel like cause for celebration.

After an incredibly stressful start, Pluto finally gave everyone a reason to breathe a little easier. His latest vet visit brought encouraging news, with the biggest fear, feline parvo, looking much less likely than it did just a few days ago. Instead, this tiny fighter is doing exactly what everyone hoped he would. He's eating, staying hydrated, and slowly putting on weight.

Slowly is the key word here. Pluto is still much smaller than a healthy kitten his age, and nobody's pretending the hard part is over. Rescue kittens have a habit of keeping their humans on their toes. One day brings relief, the next brings fresh worries. That's just part of the journey when you're raising a baby this small.

This is something that I have to admit that I did not know before I started writing for ICanHasCheezburger. See, I've never had an orange cat myself. My purrfect little cat was a trashcan kitty when I found her. Just the most regular shmegular cat. I've always loved cats, of course, but I didn't know all the cool things I know about cats now. I didn't know that black cats are meowgical, for example. I didn't know that Sphynx cats look like uncooked chicken and that their owners are so proud of that they share it online all the time. And as I mentioned, I didn't know that all orange cats have one brain cell. And beyond that, it took me a long, long time to realize that we are talking about sharing one single brain cell between all of them.

The stray ginger cats that I feed outside seem to always be a little more special, and every time I ask a cat owner of an actual orange cat about this phenomenon, they always agree. Literally always. It means there is another creature in the house that your cat can cuddle whenever they want to. Adopting a kitten for your cat means that there is someone they can teach, someone they can show how to commit crimes and do shenanigans. The benefits are endless, and nearly always, when someone asks us whether they should adopt a second cat, we say yes. Except for some times.

Some cats have a hard time bonding with other cats. They are not used to having to share the attention and affection of their humans. These cats are usually ones who have never known what it means to share space with another, and the idea of it confuses them. It's not because they don't want a friend, and it's not because they can't get along with another animal. They are just kind of- confused about the situation. That's what happened with today's cat.

We all have choices in our lives. The more choices we have, the harder it is to actually come to any kind of decision. This can be both freeing and constraining, and sometimes a choice can hang over our heads so much that we are consumed with the question, even though we know the outcome won't matter. Like in the story below, a recent college graduate reconciles with the question of whether he should adopt the stray outside his dorms or not. He says the adorable thing has been roaming around his house in the past year, and he's going to be spending his gap year at home, and plans to go to grad school in a few months. He'll be going back and forth and doesn't know if it's the best time to adopt a cat.

The caveats are thus: first of all, he actually doesn't know if he's allergic. He has had some issues with cat dander in the past, but it isn't consistent. The other issue is that he's been feeding the cat for a year and she always stops by once a day. She is affectionate and loves with he gives her pets. They mostly say it's like the world has congratulated them on having a cat, and simply thrusts said cat right into their hands. But they adopt the cat regardless.

But we can say confidently that this is no chance, and no coincidence - this is the pure and hard work of the Cat Distribution System. I love a chill weekend day with my cat, and silly cats are like the icing on top of it all.

That is unless they are lucky enough to get scooped up by a cat loving hooman. Which is pretty much what happened to the senior feline in this story who was initially assumed to be a feral feline. A product of being on the streets for a short while and her advanced age made this catto look a little worse for wear. But before long it would become apparent that this cat was actually once someone's fur baby and had spent most of her life enjoying the luxury life indoors. This of course was discovered when a chip was found in the cat and her original owner was contacted. But what came next was the tough part.

For days this original owner strung our rescuer along, promising to come and pick up the kitten. But as messages were left on read and time passed it appeared that no sort of pick up was going to happen. And this is a point we would like to touch upon. Of course it is understandable to feel ashamed that you cannot continue to care for your cat for one reason or another, and doubly so for dumping your cat instead of rehoming, and triply so when a rescue contacts you to come collect the cat you discarded. But we want to tell anyone out there who has been in this position, or might unexpectedly find themselves in this position that the best thing you can do for the cat is to be honest. Sure, it might come with some hate, but hopefully with your honest others will understand and at the very least quicker action can be taken to find the feline the purrfect home.

Good dads are not so easy to come by. When you find one, don't let him go.

Dads aren't notorious for being involved, or overbearing, or necessarily emotional. But sometimes you find that rare father who wants to help, wants to talk, and who has the emotional capacity of anyone else. When it comes to saving animals, this instinct might kick in, just like it did in the story here below. This man does not like cats. He's not a cat person, and only tolerates his wife's cats. He was out walking the dog one day and found this little weak baby kitten on the sidewalk. She really was weak, and she didn't even move when they walked over to her. He didn't let his preconceived notions about cats or his opinion of them get in the way of right and wrong though. He doesn't leave anyone behind, no matter if they're cat, woman, child, dog, or pig. He scooped her up and took the little baby home.

The family is still deciding what to do with her, if they'll keep her or try to find a foster. But at least we know she's off the streets and in a better place, which is all we can ask for abandoned street cats. When you find a kitten in trouble, the best thing you can do it just take it home because you could be saving a life. They're also going to take her to the vet and check for a chip. We all know cats land on their feet, but did we know how malleable, moldable, and meowing they are? I guess we did know they're meowing…but that's not the point! This orange kitten may have started life alone, but he won't be growing up that way.

When a tiny orange kitten was discovered all alone near a parked firetruck, his rescuer hoped he wasn't the only one left behind. They searched the area repeatedly, looking for his mother and any littermates that might have been hiding nearby. Nothing. With no other cats in sight, the tiny kitten was brought to safety and given a fitting name: Chimney Smoke-Stack.

The next stop was the veterinarian, where everyone got the news they had been hoping for. Chimney Smoke-Stack was healthy and ready for his next chapter. His rescuer was already attached, but there was one obstacle. Bottle babies need constant care, and balancing full days between work and school made that impossible right now.

Thankfully, someone in the family was ready to step in.

Caturday is finally, finally here, and we cannot wait to do… absolutely nothing. Yep, nothing. That's what this day is all about. Today, we embrace cattitude like no other day. The cruelty of some humans will never cease to amaze. Here we are, people who love animals as a whole and cats in particular, doing everything that we can to make sure that their lives are as good as they can be. Here I am, creating whole neighborly friendships over the neighborhood cats that I feed, meeting new people who care too, bonding over each and every adorable stray cat that walks into our neighborhood, taking them to the vet for TNRs, paying money out of my own pocket. Here is my best friend, fostering cats, helping them get ready for their forever homes, insisting that every cat get a truly good family. And I know that the people in our audience, the ones reading this right now, are trying their best to help in every way they can too. Because that is what decent people do.

And then, there are people like the ones in today's story. People who treat cats like trash and then abandon these cats like trash too. People who don't deserve to experience looking at a cat, let alone anything else. The kitty in this story did nothing to deserve being bred and abandoned. She was just unlucky enough to meet one of the bad humans. It's amazing that she didn't lose hope, that she actually went out of her way to find other humans and try to trust again. And it's just as amazing that this couple, two days before their wedding, amongst all the preparations and nerves, was ready to take this poor kitty in, adopt her into their home, and give her a real chance to learn what a real family means.

When the feline fate calls, a cat person will answer.

If a cat adoption story feels like fate, as if destiny made a specific person meet the one cat who needed a forever home - and they had their place in their house and heart to give them one - it's most likely true. Well, mostly. It's usually the work of the mysterious CDS - the Cat Distribution System. It's that strange and secretive order, or body, or organization (nobody knows!) that's made ot match the cat in need to the right person. The match is usually purrfection. And that's exactly what makes us think that this one orange shelter cat found his home through the hidden helping hands of the CDS.

You see, it's really not every day that a cat who's considered for euthanasia is saved in the nick of time because a vet tech finds him similar to her previous cat, who has recently crossed over the rainbow bridge. Was their fateful meeting a coincidence? Maybe. Is it too purrfect to be true? Perhaps. But is this a story worth telling because of the sheer happiness it can bring to any cat person who reads it? Absolutely. And this is exactly why we love to be the beacon of wholesome adoption stories, where cats find their forever homes, and the collective joy of the online cat community grows - one adoption at a time.

I'll admit it right away: I've always been a dog person. Growing up, I never really understood the appeal of cats. Dogs wear their emotions on their sleeves. They're excited when you get home, they follow you around the house, they want to play, and they somehow manage to turn every ordinary moment into a celebration. Cats, on the other hand, always seemed impossible to read. They looked like they were silently judging everyone from across the room, and I could never figure out whether they wanted attention or wanted to be left alone.

Part of that probably comes from how I was raised. My parents never liked cats, so we never had one. They always said dogs were friendlier, more loyal, and easier to understand. When that's the only perspective you hear growing up, you don't really question it. You just assume cats aren't for you. Looking back, I realize I never gave them much of a chance.

As I got older, though, a lot of my friends became cat owners. Every time I visited them, I'd hear the same speech about how misunderstood cats are. They'd tell me their cat greeted them at the door, followed them from room to room, or insisted on sitting beside them while they worked. I was skeptical at first because it sounded suspiciously dog-like, but after meeting enough different cats, I started to understand what they meant. They're affectionate in their own way. Before they even had the chance to bring it up with their partner, a tiny stray appeared on the porch, curled up beside their two resident cats as if he'd already decided he belonged there.

After spending a feline's lifetime loving your cat to bits, their last few years with you are the most special of all. These are the years where you reminisce, where you slow down a little and where you show them just how much all their love has meant to you over the last few years.

Of course we turned to Reddit's r/CatAdvice subreddit to get the very finest in information about aging felines as they have a completely different set of needs and wants than a younger catto. So we enlisted the advice and insight of some cat pawrents who have been there and done it with their senior cat children, making sure their last days on earth are full of love and sweet memories. What more could any of us want for the lives of our cat children?
