There is an alarming rise of people who contracted human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) said Department of Health (DOH). As of March 2012, there are over 9,000 reported cases of HIV.

Rappler.com reports that there has been a 587% increase in the number of new cases of HIV in the Philippines from 2007 to 2011, according to Dr Genesis Samonte, chief of the HIV Surveillance Unit of the National Epidemiology Center (DOH-NEC).

Currently, a vaccine is being developed and is soon to be released that may prevent this continuing rise of cases.  According to the United Nation Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS ((UNAIDS), the vaccine called the RV 144 showed 31.2% efficacy in preventing the virus.  Although, the vaccine is modestly protective, UNAIDS and the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are working hand-in-hand to see the impact of this vaccine in preventing HIV/AIDS.

A clinical trial regarding its efficacy will be conducted soon.

The music video was for the song Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen, who also starred in the said video. In the interview with Selena Gomez, she said that she and her friends were just hanging out when they thought of making the music video, which they uploaded online, never expecting that it would be this crazy.

In just two days after it was uploaded, the video reached to an overwhelming 91,000+ views. It is expected to gain even more views in the coming days.

Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips will compete for the finale of the American Idol Season 11

The finale is composed of three rounds. In the first round, the two singers performed hits chosen by the ‘Idol’ creator Simon Fuller. Fuller chose “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston for the 16-year-old Filipina-Mexican singer, while it was Ben E. King’s classic hit “Stand by Me” for Phillips. The judges gave the first round to Sanchez.

During the second round, the Top 2 sang their favorite performances they have already performed during the season. Jessica chose “The Prayer” by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion which gained her entrance to the American Idol Top 24. Phillip, on the other hand, performed “Movin’ Out” which he sang during Billy Joel week on Idol. While Steve Tyler gave this round to Sanchez, Randy Jackson thought it was a draw for the two.

In the third and final round, the contestants sang their potential ‘Idol’ winning song. During the past seasons, fans have felt that the one favored to win always gets the better song. It was a pop ballad for Jessica titled “Change Nothing”. The judges felt that the song choice was not fit for her, although they praised her performance. On the other hand, Phillip who was always pitted to win the title, received standing ovation, his first during the whole season, performed “Home”. Jennifer Lopez remarked that the song was really meant for Phillips. Although their was no direct implication that the round was given to Phillips, the standing ovation was a clear indication that he stood out.

After the performance showdown, predictions as to who will gonna win came out. Considering that the larger fragment of AI fans consist of young females who maybe rooting for Phillips, many have predicted that the 21-year-old crooner from Georgia will no doubt grab the ‘Idol’ title. However, the overwhelming support from her Filipino and Mexican fans, who knows, the next American Idol might be a Filipina. Too bad, the phone and text lines are not available in the Philippines. Although, Globe Telecom has opened voting lines for their subscribers to vote for the singers to give chance to her fans here in the Philippines to vote for her. Even so, the singing competition isn’t shown in basic channels where the common and voting majority can readily access.

But for her Filipino fans and supporters, win or lose, Jessica Sanchez will remain an “Idol”. Jessica is showing us Pinoy pride.

American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez or J-Lo is set to stage her concert in Manila this November 24, as revealed by N91 Live productions CEO Jun Lorenz Mamangon during a recent media gathering in Taguig for the upcoming Michelle Branch and Jojo concert in Manila and Cebu.

Mr. Mamangon has already confirmed the date (November 24), however, they are still discussing on the venue for the concert, whether it will be held at SM MOA’s The Arena or at the concert grounds.  But he recommends the concert in an open field where they could sell more tickets but at a lower price as compared to if the concert is held at The Arena.

Mamangon also said that he’ll work on inviting American Idol finalist Jessica Sanchez to open for J. Lo’s concert, which is not far from possible since they already know the singer back in 2000 when they opened their own production company and studio in San Diego where Jessica Sanchez enrolled for voice lessons.  His wife was her vocal coach.
