The rising Sun hits Washington state’s Mt. Rainier, a volcano reaching over 14,000 feet high, at just the right point, casting the volcano’s shadow across the underside layer of clouds, creating the beautiful shot seen above. More pictures below.

LA Photographer Eric Curry’s series American Pride and Passion is just beautiful. Each piece is achieved using a very simple technique: The scene is staged in darkness, a camera positioned to record it, and different parts individually illuminated—say, with a flashlight—while a long exposure is recorded. The many resulting images are composited in appropriate software, and with considerable artistry, to create the glowing, ethereally-lit finished pieces.

This video nicely illustrates the process. Besides his evident talents as a photographer, Curry is a fairly skilled narrator, and a pleasure to listen to. Apart from vast patience, all that’s really required to do what he does is a digital camera and a computer with basic photo-editing software. [via DIYPhotography.net]

As Android users, we know today’s announced iPhone 4S will quickly be eclipsed by the fabled Nexus Prime to be (hopefully) announced during next week’s CTIA trade show. But how does Apple’s latest and greatest stack up to some of the Android devices currently available on the market? Well, Samsung was nice enough to provide us with this handy chart showcasing a quick comparison chart between the reigning king of Androids, the Samsung Galaxy S II and Apple’s newest heavy hitter — the iPhone 4S. Pound for pound who will come out on top? I think you may already know the answer. (Ding, ding!)

While there’s no denying Apple has released another solid product, that product is also playing catch-up with Android. The iPhone 4S may be a welcome upgrade for iPhone users but when it comes to Android – this is nothing but old news. This chart could be a great tool in helping some friends or loved ones possibly on the fence of an iPhone 4S purchase. It’s easy to see which of these 2 devices is already the better value without shoving anything down anyone’s throat. Can’t wait to see Samsung provide the same chart once the Nexus Prime is officially announced. Spoiler: It’s going to be a massacre.

I only heard about Twaggies recently. They are artists who create ‘crowdsourced’ comics. From what I gather, they take nominated Tweets from Twitter and visualise them into one panel comics.

I’m a huge fan of the one-panel comic and own every Far Side book Gary Larson ever released (The man was a comedic genius) so I’m very humbled and honoured to have inspired these guys to draw up one of my Tweets.

Go to the site and scroll through all of them IF you like to laugh. It’s a terrific idea and they’re brilliant at what they do.

Since most of us will likely never have the chance to ~~set foot~~ float through the International Space Station (ISS), this timelapse video of our spinning homeworld will have to do. Watch and marvel as the planet races by, the lights of cities and lightning strikes sparkling in the sky below.

Amazingly, this video wasn’t originally shot as a video at all. It was assembled from over 600 individual images by James Drake, who downloaded them from NASA’s astronaut photo database. The work here on Earth that went into this video just makes it all the more impressive.

Child’s Skull With Baby and Permanent Teeth is Creepy

On display at the Hunterian Museum in London, this child’s skull has both its baby teeth and its permanent teeth, showing the extremely unsettling process by which humans gain their permanent teeth. Isn’t it fun to know that we’re all hideous freaks on the inside during our formative years?
