Sorry for the terrible leck of posts!! Vivi and I have been really busy in the past months but better times will come pretty soon ;)
Two weeks ago I visited the guys behind I Love You Magazine in their absolutely amazing studio-space in Kreuzberg to take some photos for Freunde von Freunden, another project that I’m working on.
Christiane Bördner launched her “printed blog” in 2009 as a side project of her agency E-Design. Her husband Marcus Gaab, also part of the agency, takes some of the beautiful photos for the magazine.
I immedtiately fell in love with their design and the whole art direction of this professional “hobby” magazine.

Once again Reed and Radar did another great GIF based editorial after their last one for SSENSE. This time they did it for V MAGAZINE.  Personally i dont’t like it as much as the previous one, but it’s still great with this amazing styling and the vibrant prints.

I already told you GIF will be the next big thing in  fashion photography! :)

I have been watching Polish designer Anna R-K for a while now and even though it’s time for S/S 2011 already her A/W 2010 collection is totally worth posting.

I’m a huge fan of geometric shapes and pastel colours which is why I love that collection so much. It looks comfy and cosy (especially the black maxi skirt!). All her pieces are superbly wearable but still very stylish and chic.

Also, I love the necklaces which can also be worn as an eye patch (for the experimentel ones).

I am pretty excited for what’s coming next!

During my internship last summer I had the pleasure to meet Nicole. I got an insight into her work and her creative processes.  I really fancy her avantgarde fashion and her outstanding talent.

With her label Von Bardonitz she is part of  THE OFFER Designer Network. She was kind enough to invite us for a day and show us her working space.

Why do you live and work in Berlin?

Berlin is a laid-back city that’s why I like working here. The rents are pretty cheap and it’s nice. To get further with your own work it’s necessary to get around and present and show yourself as well as your work. By presenting in several other cities I got whole different attention which gives me a different approach towards my work. But by always being in Berlin you get stuck and deadlock. So you need to go out and present and sell elsewhere.

In what ways did your childhood influence your creative being?

Well I am very glad that I did not grow up in a big city but with my grandmother in a big house with a huge garden in a small town in Saxony. With my friends I went out to the forest a lot and we built little huts. I could really focus on being a child an was not constantly surrounded by all the media as children are nowadays. I sat in my room drew little drawing, handcrafted little handcrafts and played with my toys. Also we had many pets and it was a great childhood. You could be inspired and think for yourself. But of course at the age of 15, 26 I just wanted to get out of this, sometimes pretty narrow-minded small town and Berlin was the closest. I needed the city.

Have you ever lived somewhere else for a longer period?

We moved quite often among others to Essen in the Ruhr Valley. I’d says that’s still the place where my heart belongs. I like it a lot and my sister lives there as well. I try to be there as often as I can but it’s been quite a time since the last visit.

So do you want to stay in Berlin? What makes you stay?

Living here is pretty cheap, I have all my dear friends and my social network here. I also tried living in London once but almost freaked out about that city. I never had such a lonely time in my life. I left after a few weeks only and went back to Berlin because here I feel home. That’s why I’ll stay. If I ever feel the strong need to leave again I’ll just do it.

Weshalb wohnst und arbeitest du in Berlin?

Ich arbeite hier gerne, es ist ein entspanntest Leben hier in Berlin. Ich hab ein sehr günstiges Atelier und eine sehr günstige Wohnung, es ist nett in Berlin zu leben. Aber ich glaube, dass wenn man ein bisschen weiter kommen will mit seinen eigenen Sachen muss man sich umschauen auch woanders zu präsentieren. Ich hab dieses Jahr in verschiedenen Städten präsentiert und auch eine ganz andere Aufmerksamkeit bekommen und dadurch geht man an die Arbeit mit einer ganz anderen Einstellung ran. Wenn man immer nur in Berlin ist verharrt man irgendwann und steckt fest. Man muss also rausgehen und sich zeigen und viel präsentieren und verkaufen.

Inwiefern hat deine Kindheit deinen kreativen Werdegang beeinflusst?

Also ich bin sehr froh, dass ich nicht in der Großstadt sondern in einer Kleinstadt in Sachsen aufgewachsen bin bei meiner Oma in einem großen Haus mit großem Garten. Ich bin viel mit Freunden in den Wald gegangen und wir haben Buden gebaut. Ich konnte wirklich Kind sein und hatte nicht die Medien um mich wie viele Kinder heute und hatte viel Zeit mich mit mir selbst zu beschäftigen. Ich saß auch viel in meinem Zimmer, hab gemalt und gebastelt und mit meinem Spielzeug gespielt. Wir hatten außerdem viele Haustiere und es war schon eine gute Kindheit. Man konnte inspiriert sein und selber denken. Aber klar, mit 15, 16 wollte ich einfach raus aus dieser zum teil auch sehr spießigen Kleinstadt und da war Berlin das nächste. Ich brauchte die Stadt.

Hast du für eine längere Zeit schonmal woanders gelebt?

Wir sind relativ viel umgezogen unteranderem in den Ruhrpott nach Essen an dem mein Herz auch ein bisschen hängt. Ich mag es da sehr und meine Schwester wohnt dort auch. Ich fahr so oft hin wie es halt geht, jetzt war ich schon länger nicht mehr da.

Willst du denn in Berlin bleiben? Was hält dich hier?

Die Lebensunterhaltskosten sind sehr niedrig, ich habe hier sehr viele Freunde und mein gesamtes soziales Netzwerk hier. In London hab ich auch schon versucht zu leben aber wär fast ausgeflippt in dieser Stadt. Ich hatte noch nie eine so furchtbar einsame Zeit. Ich bin nach einigen Wochen schon wieder abgereist und wollte zurück nach Berlin denn ich fühle mich hier einfach sehr wohl. Deshalb bleibe ich erstmal hier. Sollte ich irgendwann wieder das starke Gefühl bekommen woanders hinzuwollen mach ich das einfach.

Concept inspired by freunde von freunden

Really nice editorial by Aytun Alpun for the turkish Marie Claire November Issue. The Three models Anna, Viola and Özlem are perfectly styled by Hakan Öztürk in a very monochromatic and religious way.
I was really surprised by that high art direction that kinda reminds me of some Steven Meisel stuff.

Josh Beech is pretty well known for numerous campaigns for LEVIS, H&M and lately Thommy Hilfiger Fragrance. Now, after two very successful years of modeling he recently just released his first piece of solo music.
The EP is called “Burnt Out” and has four pretty nice songs on it.

Stone quarries like this one have been the alternative playgrounds of my childhood. I was always kind of scared but obsessed with the fossils that i found there from time to time.
The holy box with tons of stones and fossils in it is still in the basement of my parents.

I love vintage inspired fashion. I love feminine shapes, high quality fabrics, a chic way of everyday dressing.

And I love Alexandra Grecco

Therefore I am extra excited about the sneak peak of her new Spring/Summer 2011 collection which you may also find on her famous vintage blog Gluda Finds Lulu.

High waisted cuts have been fashionable for quite a  while but what is so very stunning about Grecco’s designs are the perfect combination of cut, colour and, as you can see on the picture above, the prints.

I am looking forward to a season of glamour, elegance and playful designs.

For those of you who don’t know Alex Prager, you should visit her website right now! This 30 year old girl is probably one of the photographers that we will still talk about in 40 years as her film-still-like style is very unique and even comparable to artists like Cindy Sherman.

Her latest story “Spellbound” was made for the november issue of W Magazine and features the musician and model Irina Lazareneau (this girl has a lot  to tell). I don’t know how much influence she had on the styling, but Carolyn Tate Angel and Callan Stokes did a brilliant job as well!
