First Step - Decide Domain Name

What is a domain name??

Let me put it in simple words:
A domain name is an identifier of a site or a computer on the Internet e.g. www.hotmail.com, www.google.com, www.alphainventions.com, www.godaddy.com,www.fiddlewiddle.com etc.

Domain name usually depicts what the website is related to, so you have to decide a domain name based on what the content of your website would be. Don't decide the name in a hurry as it is a very important step. You can use tools such as Google keyword tool or WordTracker to decide your domain name. These tools would tell you how popular a keyword is. For example: If you are willing to make a website about Soccer, type 'soccer' in the keyword box and the tool will show how many times 'soccer' and other relevant keywords were searched by the users in a period of time etc.

Second Step - Register Domain Name

Once you have chosen your domain name, you will have to check availability as someone else might have registered it already. You can select any service for domain name registration you like but here, I would use Godaddy.com as an example.

So to get started, open your web browser and go to Godaddy.com. Click Domains > Register Domains from the menu. Enter chosen domain name and select suffix i.e. .com, .net, .org etc according to nature of your work or website.

If it is unavailable, try another domain name. Scroll down and select 'Proceed to Checkout'. Fill your personal and credit card information, submit it. That's it. You are done. Information regarding your domain name will be emailed to you.

Up till now, you have managed to register your domain name. But where would you place your website's content? For this, you need web hosting space.

Third Step - Get Web Hosting Account

Many service providers offer different hosting packages. Calculate the amount of disk space, monthly data transfer, ftp users and other related variables based on your need.

Go to Godaddy.com, click Hosting > Website Hosting from the main menu. Different packages are offered there. Select a package according to your need and add it to cart after checking package details. Fill the required information and proceed to check out. You are done. Check your email and access your Godaddy's account using the user name and password.
