Yes, that's right, I am giving away my Originally Designed Patterns for FREE!

Why?? you might ask?

I mean after all, it's a Designer's worst nightmare to have someone copy their design, right? Isn't Fashion a cut throat world after all, and everyone wants to have the edge of surprise coming down the Runway, and to stand out above all the rest?

All of this, is true...however, I've decided to share my passion about design in an extraordinary way, by letting you..ALL of You out there.... recreate my design from my very own pattern.

As you know I love to teach fashion almost as much as I love to create it. I want those new to the idea of designing, as well as those more advanced, to experience the thrill of making something that is so simple yet so fashionable.
This is a way to let you taste the true designer world, and experience the gratification that comes when you have completed something as unique as these garments and accessories!

Bernina Partners with Bob Martin in Upcoming Feature!

So most of you know about my new DVD program "How To Fashion Design with Bob Martin" that lauched this year. What you may not know, is that I also have another project in the works at the moment as well.

After the release of my first lesson with "How To Fashion Design" I began contacting companies, distributors, and retailers about the program. I wanted to see what kind of opportunities were out there like marketing, sponsorship, and sales.

Bernina was one of the first companies I contacted , because I use their equipment in my videos. I have been an devoted Bernina user for several years now and I am very fond of their products. They are innovative, dependable , and very user friendly. Their machines and attachments help me produce clean high quality samples of my designs.

Anyhow I am rambling….

So I contacted Bernina and within a week they responded! I was really surprised because well established companies such as Bernina, get bombarded with people such as myself looking to partner with a company that can help their business grow. My program really caught their attention, and they wanted to talk about possibilities on how we could start a Partnership, where they could benefit from my expertise and I could benefit from theirs. After some brainstorming and several phone conferences something came in to the works.

Bernina of America has a new site launching this July called sewingrepublic.com . Now if you try to go there now, you may find the old sewingrepublic.com site. The new and improved site is to launch mid July, and is going to feature several designers including a feature of yours truly.

Who's Who? Fashion Designer Bob Martin & Kris Allen Separated at Birth!

Separated at Birth and Reunited by Fame!

It's amazing how many people have a twin somewhere in the world. It took my friend little time to locate mine once Kris Allen appeared on American Idol. Before they could remember his name, they coined him "Bob" because of the resemblance in this photo.

Oddly enough I was making my own indirect connection to Kris Allen through a MySpace contact. A previous Idol contestant in fact! Little did I realize it, until this person posted on their MySpace, to vote for his best friend Kris Allen who was a contestant in the shows top 13.

It's a small world after all....that seems like a resounding theme the more you begin to travel. do business, and connect with people all over the world.

The Internet is funny that way.

This is a tribute to my friends who posted this photogenic comparison and for all of you on my Facebook that kindly commented on the freakishness of having a famous twin.

Now to top it off, it would be sweet... if we had the privilege of actually meeting, or if I could even design some garments for him to wear ...now that would really be sweet!

The success of drawing, “I Can’t Draw” Fashion

I have heard this so many times in my career as a Fashion Designer. I can’t believe how many people throw in the towel and quit design because they feel they “can’t draw”. I am sick of hearing it really ….

Everybody can draw! I have a mentor and friend Basil Kardarsis who explained to me while I was in University that he could teach ANYONE to draw. Basil proceeded to tell me of a student of his who was attending a well known university in London, a prestigious one I might add, The Royal College of Art. This student had already had his bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design and was pursuing his MASTERS degree in menswear. This young man had spent years on London’s Saville Row. He was an established designer tailor and had the privilege of working for some of the world’s most distinguished clients. He was trained by the best tailors in the world. But he felt like “he couldn’t draw”. Surely, I was thinking since he was a professional tailor, and accepted to one of the finest schools in the world for design; he must have had a significant place in the fashion world. How did he accomplish so much without being able to draw?

My mentor Basil went on to explain to me that he helped this young man find out what drawing was for HIM. I had never thought of it that way before. It was too literally to draw with a pencil and sketchbook I had thought. The typical drawings were that everyone loves to see a nice clean drawn fashion figure, illustrating strong confident lines, exquisite proportions, and a striking pose. But this is not the only way of drawing.

I had recently took the time to research drawing a little more in depth. The dictionary uses a lot of definitions to explain the words “Draw”. In this particular dictionary I have, there are 72 definitions. That alone must say something. It must say that drawing must be more than just putting a pencil to a paper. One definition says “To devise or formulate” or “compose or create”.

Did you know my friend, there is a world of different mediums and techniques to use when drawing? The young man could sew and there was no doubt about that he was one of the best. One thing is that the young man discovered was a new kind of drawing by exploring new ways then the typical pencil and sketchbook. This young man discovered by making garments, and breaking the garments into sections allowed him to photograph his pieces. He then would collage them, and finally tracing over them and in the end he was able to communicate his ideas well. You see he had not only communicated his ideas he also created his own signature way.

Hello Everybody,

Welcome to my newest blog. If you’re part of my program “How To Fashion Design with Bob Martin” then there is no need to introduce myself; however, if you stumbled upon this blog allow me to tell you a bit about myself.

My name is Bob Martin and I am a Fashion Designer. Along with designing, I have taught Fashion Design as well, which led me to create the “How to Fashion Design” program. If you want, check out my site at www.HowToFashionDesign.com You can learn a lot more about me and my program there.

I started this blog for a lot of reasons but one reason in particular, to introduce people to my vision which is creating an opportunity for people to learn what I have come to love…Design…. .

This blog is going to be a journal- where I will write about what is inspiring me, talk about the design developments going on in my studio, and most importantly inspire you. So whether you are an established designer or one in the making, I hope we can build a friendship and community that helps each other grow in the designing of fashion.

I know in the design business often times things are very cut throat…. Ideas are bottled up because people fear others will rip them off.

This is not going to be that way here… here I will be open…. here I will encourage… and here we will grow!
