There’s also a lot of to learn about them.

I don’t overwhelm you, so I’ll start out with the FAQs I’ve been asked many times:

Q: “I downloaded a brush kit & it has both .abr files & .png files?

What’s the difference?”

A: .ABR files are the actual brushes. Adobe Photoshop (PS) & Photoshop Elements (PSE) can support .ABR files. You load them in PS or PSE (more on that later). You can change colors in the Color Box, rotate, space, etc. all in the Brushes Palette.

Not all programs can support the actual .ABR files, so, at House of 3, I offer the image sets as .PNG files.

.PNG files can be dragged & dropped over something because they retain their transparent qualities. You can re-color them, too.(another tutorial will follow on that info) You can not load them as .ABR files, so don’t try it!

But, you can create your own brushes. I.e. You can create your own brushes in older versions of PS or PSE and in Paintshop Pro (PSP), you can create a ‘stamp’ out of the .PNG files.

Notice: If you load the .ABR files, & they say ‘not compatible’, it is because the brushes were created in a newer version of PS and most likely, you are using an older version of PS or PSE. So, you would just need to open up your .PNG files & create your own brushes.(more on that later)

Note: PNG files can work with any program that will support & open PNG files. (word processing programs, photo editing programs, etc.) House of 3 ABR brush files are ONLY compatible with PSE6+ & PSCS+. Not compatible with older versions of PSE & PS, hence, the PNG files so you can make your own brushes out of the PNG files.

Q: “I still don’t get it. What are brushes?”

A: Think of the brushes as stamps. You ‘dip’ your brush/stamp into a color & then brush/stamp/click it onto your digital canvas. All brushes are different designs…some of my brush creations are borders, frames, swirls, alphabets, designs, pictures, shapes, words, etc.

Q: “How do I load my brushes?”

A: Once you’ve downloaded & unzipped your kit, double click/right click on your ABR brush file & voila! they appear in your Brush Palette at the bottom!

If that doesn’t work:

Select the brush tool on your toolbar in PS or PSE.

Select the arrow on the drop-down Brushes Menu and then select LOAD BRUSHES.

Find your downloaded ABR brush file, then click LOAD.

The new brushes will appear at the bottom of your Brush Palette.

Q: “How can I change colors? “

A: If you have the ABR brush file loaded, you can simply click on the color box & change the color of your brush/stamp.

If you are using the PNG files, there are various ways to change color. For a black PNG file, you’ll need to change the black PNG file to a Layer Style/color overlay & you can choose any color you want!

In PS to create a Layer Style:

1. Open your PNG file.

2. Go to LAYER>LAYER STYLE>>COLOR OVERLAY.

Select the Color desired.

Note:This method will give a flat color. You will lose all texture or patterns, unless you use the Light Modes to Blend the color.

Q: “What can I do with Brushes?”

A: Design, create, explore. Let’s say you have a swirl that you want to stamp onto your Christmas card, or photo, or blog banner. You choose blue, but you may want it to be subtle underneath the greeting/photo/text. So, you create a New Layer, then click/stamp the brush in blue. You can adjust the Opacity to make it appear like vellum…a soft look. Then, on another New Layer, you’d click/stamp the brush in blue, pink or another color on top of it & you’d have a very interesting look!

This is how I create most of my art. All the brush work you see in my art is done on separate layers, colors & adjusting the Opacity to make it interesting!

Q: “How can I make my own brush?”

A: This is another amazing part of the world of brushes! You can make a brush out of anything you want! …a photo you’ve taken, your signature, a drawing you’ve made…etc! This also works for those that use an older version of PS of PSE that is not ‘compatible” with the brushes I sell. ( I create in PSCS3 & so the brush files are only compatible with PSE6+ or PSCS+ as noted above.)

Creating Brushes:

Open your image to create your brush. (photos, PNG, whatever) Go to SELECT>ALL.

Go to EDIT>DEFINE BRUSH. Name your brush when the box prompts you. Voila! You’ve created a brush! **This doesn’t mean your brush is saved. You may still lose it unless you save it.

Saving Brushes:

1. Select your Brush Palette. Notice the arrow.

Select the arrow & you will see the drop down menu.

2. Here, you will see where you can Reset, Load, Save, & Replace your brushes.

Hit Save & you’ve saved your brush.

There’s tons more to the world of brushes, but this is a start.

House Adornments: We offer unique Jewel Wall Art to adorn your house. Our Limited Edition designs consist of: Chandeliers, Frames & a Lamp. These re-positionable black vinyl stickers are fabulous for creating a beautiful world around you.

They are easy as 1,2,3.
1. Decide where to apply the Jewel Wall Art. Even though they are really sticky, they are also re-positionable. Try applying on walls (painted or wall paper surfaces are ok), glass, mirror, canvas, magnet boards, lockers, doors, cabinets… anywhere!
2. Remove the die cut design from the backer piece. Be careful: remove slowly and carefully. It may help to get an extra set of hands as you separate it from the backer.
3. Stick them up! The Jewel Wall Art works just like a sticker! Position grid lines starting at one point of the design, (like the top or bottom) and work your way to the opposite end to ensure that it’s laying flat and as desired. (That extra set of hands is good to have here too, as well as an extra set of eyes to be sure it’s straight!)

TIPS:
*Be patient. The designs are uniquely intricate and can be tricky to hold when preparing to apply to your surface. If it sticks to itself, just carefully pull it apart- it will release.
*Try not to get finger prints on the clear areas of the image. Hold on the black areas.
*After the Jewel Wall Art has been in place for an extended amount of time, the jewels can pop off during removal or normal use. We have provided extra jewels, and can be adhered in place. House of 3 does not guarantee the Jewel adhesion after application.

Tutorials: Check out this video to help you get a feel of the way they work! HERE>

Digital Warehouse: We have so much fun creating with these digital elements! They are perfect for photographers, bloggers, scrapbookers, mixed media artists, anyone!
House of 3 Digital kits are offered in various formats & Adobe Photoshop (PS), Adobe Photoshop Elements (PSE) or some other kind of Photo Editing Software is usually needed.

PNG files: These files are for clear or transparent items such as a die cut tag that you don’t want a background on. For instance, the House of 3 Frames are great to put on your blog or frame a photo. When you digitally open it up in PS you don’t want a white background or you won’t be able to see the photo, right? So, here’s your PNG to the rescue! Simply open up your photo & then drop the Frame onto it to frame your photo!
Our Quote Rub ons or tags are offered in PNG files as well. Each kit will tell you in the description what you are buying.

JPG files: This file is flattened file. Papers, cards or flat tags are offered in this file format. JPG files do not require PS or PSE, you can actually open them in Word or Acrobat. But, be careful to read the kit description carefully so you know what program you will need. Our patterned papers & books are offered in JPG files & are wonderful to print out as many times as you’d like. But, are also used for blogs, digital scrapbooking, & photography!

ABR brush files: These files are like digital *stamps*. You will need PS or PSE to access these files. See this tutorial on how to load & use the Brushes. You can
*stamp* them in various colors, layer, resize, & use on blogs, photos, or any digital project. Each ABR brush kit also has black PNG files in case you have a Software program that can’t support the ABR file extension. So you can open up the PNG files & use them, too! Our Swirls, Medallions, & frame edges are so versatile & fun!

***Note: Clip Art usage. You can still pull the digital PNG & JPG files into a normal Word Processing program if you’d like to print out images like the PDF Printable files. Some kits, like the Hello Teacher Kit, offers the PDF Printable files of the cards, but also offers a Digital Kit including different/single designs that you can use very easily! Treat it just like regular Clip Art. Open New Document>Insert> & select the images. Resize just as you would with Clip Art & you’re good to go!

It is that time of year….school is wrapping up and if you have a graduate in your family like we do it is an exciting time! I love it when I have a Senior in the family that is graduating…I remember that feeling of accomplishment and excitement with what the future would hold for me when I was graduating….so I was super excited to whip up a few things for my nephew and the celebrations we will be having for him in the coming weeks.
Rhonna made it so easy with these super cool Boy and Girl Class of 2009 sets. I have had fun making these projects and just wanted to share a few with you here: (don’t forget to click on the image and it will pop up larger and show you more detail)

These thanks, blank cards were perfect for adding a teachers name and a gift card. My sister was thrilled to have one for each teacher so that she could just attach the gift card with a glue dot and be done with all of the Senior Appreciation Gifts!
These wrappers are oh so cute! Perfect for the water bottles with a little “thanks for attending my party” message. These aren’t just for bottles though,
think candy bars, party favors, tags for the gift bags…the possibilities are endless!

I love these cards that I made into Senior trading cards…I added a more casual photo of him and he can write a message to
his friends along the bottom. Great for trading and collecting with friends for the mini book I want to make for him!

And did you see what Rhonna did with the girl wrapper?…Perfection….so easy but it has great impact!

Here’s the actual ‘announcement’ used for just that: print out as many as you need or take to a photo lab! perfect. easy. unique.

I just absolutely love all of the finishing touches that Dette put on this book to make it her own…here are a few words from her about her project:

It’s no secret…. I am a ScRaPaHoLiC. Hey at least I can admit it. I am a full time NICU RN. I love shopping, decorating, hanging out with friends and family, going to the beach and of course, scrapbooking. Married to my high school sweetheart and going strong for 12 years. Mother of one beautiful daughter who is 9 going on 16. I started scrapbooking in high school but “serious” scrapbooking since the birth of my daughter. It was all over. I love the whole creative process of scrapbooking from shopping (which is my favorite part) to the finished product. I love how scrapbooking brings so many people together and creates a creative outlet at the same time preserving my familys’ memories. I was the project designer for Scrap for a Cure (www.scrapforacure ) They are a scrapbook kit club that gives back a percentage to a charity of the month. I recently took a dive into the digital world with Rhonna’s digi kits and discovered a whole new addiction… Hybrid Scrapbooking. Thanks to HOF 3!

I would say my style is definitely GiRly. It’s a good thing I have a girl. My inspiration comes from many places (aside from my family of course) from scrapbook celebs, products, mags, galleries and blogs. I think scrapbooking and photography go hand in hand so it’s only natural that my other passion is Photography.

I’ve always wanted to create a mini book of my home and saw HOF 3’s HW kit. We fell in love with our home from the whole architecture to the location where it sits at the end of a court overlooking the rolling hills of Brentwood, Ca. I wanted a book that showcased the beauty of our home and what makes it ours. By creating this book, my family and I can see how much family and friends surrounds us. How much love, cultural and family traditions, celebrations, daily schedules and milestones that happen in our lives. I seem to keep adding pages and pictures to my book. I hope to pass it on to my daughter and for generations to come.

The cover with the double doors that mimicks my front door along with the added bling and hambly’s frame transparency cut out is one of my favorites. I also printed the heart from their Valentines kit onto transparency then added Heidi’s damask sticker gave way to the HOF 3’s birdcage paper onto canvas media. Also, I used HOF 3’s digital frames to create floating frames and printing the framed picture on transparency is another one of my favorites of the book. Just the versatility that HOF 3’s digital kits makes creativity endless. Thanks for giving me the inspiration to finally create my book that I will cherish forever.

“ Savor and Relive moments that are special to us are priceless” -unknown

Maridette

Congratulations Maridette for winning our fist ever submission contest…we will hopefully have more fun contests to come so stay tuned!

Mother’s Day starts the season of gift giving. Here, at House of 3, we are ramping up for a whole season of Creative Gifting!

From Mother’s Day to weddings. Or graduations to teacher appreciation. And don’t forget Father’s Day, birthdays & all sorts of gift occasions! Be watching as we share ideas, new kits & photos to help with that Creative Gifting!

First off! Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday! We just released a bunch of french inspired papers, tags & word art that will give just that right touch to your Mother’s Day card or gifts! Oo La La!

First I printed out my supplies. **that’s the fab thing about these kits!**

________

A. I printed out a bunch of the papers on both sides. Two great things about this
new kit of papers is:

1. There are tons of coordinating papers that look so good together.

and

2. You can print them out as many times as you want!

______

B. I printed out the Colored Tags onto white sticker paper & cut them out.

_________

C. I printed out the Word art & Tag brushes onto clear inkjet acetate & cut out.

__________

D. I printed out photos: some on photo paper & some on the inkjet transparency. oo la la!

_______

Then, I cut the papers, manilla tags & photos the size I needed them for the 7Gypsies ATC holder.

Added photos, tulle, tags & journaling.

Voila! A Mother’s Day gfit from the heart. I just gave it to my mom today, since she’ll be out of town, & she loved it! I *love* Creative Gifting!

Here are some more shots of the project!

The green paper is in the collection.**You can see the detail with the old french text burned into the Medallion print! Love it! ** On the other side of the card, I have a small doily folded in half going off the edges to add some *interest*.

You can see more detail of the French Oo La La papers! I love this blue designer paper! Check out the delicious florals, subtle ledger print & the old French words burned into the background for a subtle effect!

Another one of my fave papers in this collection. It’s super Springy & then in the corner it has these old French labels & words in it. I used Rub ons for a little message on this card.

The “Love” tag is one of the colored Ledger tags printed off on white sticker paper. I cut it out, folded part on one side & continues on the other side. Love these!

The ‘thank you’ is the continuation of that same tag up above. Then, I added some of the other tags onto this manilla tag.

Hope this inspiRes you this weekend as YOU create goodies for the women in YOUR life!

Let’s celebRate! Here’s to Creative Gifting!

R

p.s. You can see more photos here. I think I got carried away with the photos! they wouldn’t all fit here! LOL!

“I’m a recently-turned-30-and-won’t-admit-it stay at home mom of four daughters who loves to scrapbook to while away the freezing hours of winter in Canada (and, who am I kidding, all year long!). I have been married to my sweetheart hunkster husband (move over, Edward!) for 10 blissful years and he supports my scrapbooking addiction whole-heartedly.

I love projects that inspire and really make think about what is important to me in my life. Usually I can whip through a mini-album in a couple of hours, but this one took me days and days. In the end, I LOVE it because it represents us so well. My husband got choked up reading through it, which is a huge accomplishment

I used the theme “What makes a house a home?”, then I came up with some different titles that answered that question for us. Some examples were FAMILY, SERVICE, and ROOTS. I also included obvious pages such as LOVE because without love our home would be nothing more than four walls and a really bad carpet. Our home is filled with love and it’s a legacy I want to pass down to my children. I included TIME (as in time spent together) because some days, it seems that time is short, but the way we spend our time together makes our house a home. LAUGHTER is a HUGE one at our house - I wouldn’t think I was home if I didn’t hear laughter ringing through the walls of our house. After all, the family that laughs together, stays together. I also included pages about some of our favorite TRADITIONS including our yearly family Nativity pageant, and making huge heart-shaped sugar cookies with our names on them for Valentines day. A big one I had to include was ORDER. Our home strives to be one of order with rules and expectations for all of us. It’s something that is important to us and it’s something we hope our children will learn to value as much as we do.

This book is something I cherish now, and hope that my children will cherish as they grow. Capturing memories, moments, and milestones is what scrapbooking is all about, for me, and this project did all three and more!”

Congratulations Bobbi-Jo and check back tomorrow and we will be featuring our Grand Prize winner of the HOF3 Book contest!

First off, thank you so much, everyone! We’ve loved hearing from you & are excited about the giveaways on our own blogs! If you haven’t gone to Heidi’s, Janet’s or my blog…run over to enter in the giveaway!

And…we’ve heard lots of questions, so I’ll try to answer:

Q: Do you ship to Australia?
A: Yes! We ship world wide. We wanted everyone all over the globe to have these nifty decor items! enjoy!

Q: Will you carry these again? In another color?
A: We have a limited number in this first Edition. Once they are gone, they are gone. So, act quickly! **in the future we may have another run, but it won’t be the same! You’ll only get this Limited Edition of the exclusive House of 3’s first designs!…like an artist’s limited edition works!

Q: How do I put them up? How do I reposition?
A: In your COOL box, you’ll receive a printed out instruction page. (along with a few extra Jewels…just in case.)

They are quite sticky & stick to anything. There are 3 layers.
1st. layer is the back.
2nd. layer is the die cute image.
top layer is a grid sheet.

You simply peel off the back layer, follow the grid lines, press the sticker onto the surface, then peel off the grid sheet to reveal the black wall art image.

Super easy. But, like I said, it’s very tacky. The plastic/vinyl is very thick & resilient, so if you don’t get it right the first time, you can always peel it off & reposition.

In these shots I wanted to think ‘out of the box’ & put them up on a cement wall. After I was finished there was cement on the stickers. I simply washed off with water/soap & they are still sticky…ready for another ‘out of the box’ place to stick!

Q: I love the idea of writing inside the frames. What did you write on the glass & mirror with?
A: Sharpie. Black Sharpie. It comes off with a cotton ball & nail polish remover. Easy. You can also do a Dry Erase marker. Obviously that would come off much easier!

Q: How long will the buy 2 get one free price be offered?
A:We’ll end this special Introductory Offer on May 7th. So hurry!

Q: I love these, but don’t know how I’d use them!

A: We totally understand. Sometimes it’s hard to envision HOW you’d use something unique like this. That’s why we are working on getting a gallery to show you ideas we’ve come up with AND the ones you come up with! We have shown them on walls, mirrors, floating frames, glass, & framed with fabric/paper…but, how about some MORE fun ideas?

let’s think outside the box:

car windows. We were talking about it & how cool would it be on the back of a cute bug…LOL!

lockers: the frames or chandeliers would be cute in a locker…mirrors framed?

light switch: the cute little frames around your light switch? glammed up! love it!

doors: Susan emailed me about a fabulous wood office door she has but doesn’t want to put nail marks in it…how cool would these be on that?

laptops: perfect ‘laptop skins’…with bling!

weddings: oooo, can you just *see* the possibilities? Every bride wants a glammed up party, right? Wouldn’t it be fab to fill a whole room of mirrors with the chandeliers? Or on the refreshment tables, have the lamps on the walls behind? I see them in various heights…perhaps on top cake stands, pedestals, etc.
And of course…photos of the happy couple in the frames? their initials? the wedding date?

Baby Showers/parties: much like the above. Just did a PROM TRANSFORMATION for a friend last weekend. And, the menu shots you see on the home page are from this fun party!

Gifts: grads? Mother’s Day? new apartments/house? birthday? any day? ha ha! FABULOUS gifts, cuz the box is so darn cute & looks fab with just a ribbon, flower, card, tag, MORE bling!

Obviously we’d love to hear from YOU! Keep asking questions here & be sure to share your photos when you get your FAB box(es) in the mail! *wink* You’ll do a happy dance…I’m sure of it!

Happy decorating!

ok, you all have GOLDEN photo moments on Easter! these photos will be total source of inspiration over the coming weeks of creative stuff… so we asked Jefra, one of our favorite photographer friends about how she gets such AMAZING shots!! we love her down to earth approach… here is what she said:

Easter is probably my favorite holiday of all. It has everything a holiday needs - pastel colors, flowers and cute little fuzzy things. Perfect companions for making pictures with kids darling. In fact, at Easter most of the work for family photos is done for you because there are already matching outfits and cuteness. There are so many fabulous opportunities for darling, spontaneous pictures of your family at Easter time.

Here are a few suggestions to get you brainstorming for some darling pictures this Easter.

Hint 1 - get candy involved. or flowers. or stuffed animals. or ruffles - see where I’m going here? Generally, things look better when extra cuteness is piled on top. And you get happier kids.

Hint 2 - Try to catch the defining moments. Usually at Easter there’s some kind of an Easter basket and perhaps a candy hunt or egg hunt. When these things happen kids faces LIGHT up! Those are the moments you (and grandma and grandpa) want to look at over and over again. So get down low, on your kids’ level and if you have to shoot 100 frames, go for it, if you have to wait and wait and then SNAG that perfect shot - go for it. But watch for those moments because they make cute shots so much easier.

Hint 3 - (and this is my personal favorite) Shoot the little things. Egg dying. Putting the shoes on with the Easter dress. The basket. Running to be the first to get the candy. Making Easter cookies. Whatever happens - shoot it.

SO — your challenge this Easter is to grab a shot with all your kids and a basket full of eggs. Get creative here, but make it look darling.

Good Luck!!

Jefra

i have felt so inspired by her simple tips!
have a great easter..
