Slowplay Poker Hands

One of the most common strategies players use when playing online poker, specifically Texas Holdem and Omaha poker, is slowplaying a big hand. Chances are, you know what this is, or at least have been a victim of a slowplay, but here is a little background on the concept.

A slowplay is when a player is dealt a monster hand, and instead of betting large and playing the value of their hand known, they bet small, play passive, and get their opponents to commit chips to the pot before them.

This can be in regular poker

tournaments or online poker tables For example, if you have a pair of pocket aces, call before the flop, and an ace hits on the flop, you check. Then, when your opponent bets, you just call. This would be an example of a slowplay.

A slowplay is a great way to extract the maximum amount of chips from your opponent. More often than not, when you have a big hand, your opponents end up folding and you don’t get maximum value. When this happens, it is a wasted opportunity.

However, slowplaying can get you into trouble as well. When you slowplay a big hand, you are giving your opponents the chance to stay in the action with their drawing hands, and the chances of them drawing out against you go up drastically. That is why it is very difficult to execute a slowplay correctly.

You should only attempt a slowplay when you know the playing habits of the other players at the table well and can predict what they are going to do.

Otherwise, you could find yourself in trouble.

In the course of working in a gaming company, you come across a whole lot of weirdos and weird characters. If the happenings in a day were a pencil sketch, you wish you could erase the conversations AND these people with a few strokes of a good, clean eraser, haha.

A lot of men get away with the feeling that because I’m a girl, they can get away with anything! They become frustrated and even rude and abusive when they find out they cannot. I was so outraged and dismayed with all this, that I wonder: do these things also happen in the world of poker? Are women so cheap to men? How are women treated here?

Poker is a game of skill and skill is NOT the prerogative of just men. It is based on your own value judgments and your capacity and ability to use your mind to the fullest extent possible.

Cecilia Nordenstam is most known for her appearances in the European Casino Poker Tour and World Poker Tour. After being born in Stockholm she currently resides in Gotheburg, Sweden. She got her first taste of poker as being a dealer for Casino Cosmopol, after she graduated from a Swedish college. Lieu was primarily a limit Texas hold 'em cash games player for a number of years, before embracing tournament play at the 2005 World Series of Poker. When John Phan encouraged her to enter the $1500 no-limit hold'em event, she ended up in fifth place with over $168,000 in prize money. She went on to place 12th in the $5000 no-limit hold'em event the same year and cashed in the $3000 tournament as well.

The next stop was the Bellagio's 2005 Festa Al Lago tournament, where she placed fourth in the $2500 no limit hold'em event and 16th in two other top tournaments in the series, taking home more than $80,000 for less than a week's worth of work. She went on to finish in the top ten spots at the World Poker Finals, Five Diamond World Poker Classic, and the Gold Strike World Poker Open.

Lieu's first tournament win came at the 2006 L.A. Poker Classic at Commerce Casino, where she won the $1000 limit hold'em event. Her second tournament win came when she won the same event in 2007.
