New Movie: Julia Roberts in Bali

This is great news for Bali and Julia Roberts fans around the globe.

It’s confirmed: The Pretty Woman herself, Hollywood actress Julia Roberts, will begin filming in Bali next month for the film adaptation of the best-selling book “Eat, Pray, Love.” The screenplay will be written by American television writer Ryan Murphy, and produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment production company.

Julia Roberts will play the role of Gilbert, while Jenkins appears as a Texan spiritual seeker Robert's character meets in an Indian ashram. “Eat, Pray, Love” is the best-selling memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert. It tells her story of overcoming a deep depression after a painful divorce during a journey of soul-searching and self-discovery. In her search for peace, she spends a year traveling in Italy, India and Indonesia. While in Bali, the author learns how to balance earthly delights with spirituality and discovers the meaning of love.

One third of the story takes place in Bali where the main character finds love, healing and the mentoring of an aging Balinese guru in Ubud. One of the first-ever Hollywood feature films to be shot in Bali, filming is set to commence in October 16 to November 6, 2009.

Movie locations are fantastic. The shoot is planned to take place at the traditional markets and Monkey Forest in Ubud, along with the nearby villages of Demayu and Tegalalang, and in Badung, Uluwatu and Nusa Dua.

Bali is a fantastic multi event island. There are many unique events such as Bali Art Festival, Bali Fashion Week, traditional and a lot of unique religious ceremony. The month of August in Bali witnesses the great commemoration anniversary of Bali Province that takes place in August 14th. The running competition takes participation of elite athletes from international, national, public, students and visitor like us.

After a successful launch last year, the Bali provincial tourist office will once again hold the International Bali 10 K race. The actual race will be divided into four categories: an "elite international" grouping, an "elite national" grouping, a general grouping and a final category for student participants. Attractive merchandise and cash prizes have been prepared for each category of participation.

For example they use the soil to colour the wall and for the roof made from “Penyengker”and bamboo for all houses in the village.

The residential areas of Penglipuran Village have a very particular look that is unique to the area and extremely aesthetically pleasing with rows of very small but tall traditionally built houses that are very decorative and with thatched roofs. These roads are straight and within the field areas meaning there is a tropical country feels as well as being very culturally interesting. All of these roads are in line with the direction of the mount Agung, which are the most holy peak and one of the most holy places on the entire island. This gives a lovely effect and also extenuates the impressive grandeur of Bali’s largest peak. These cobbled roads sharing their direction with the family temples that can be found in the gardens also facing mount Agung as with the rest of the island the mountain is very important to the culture.

In Penglipuran Village its importance is even stronger which is not surprising as it is likely that the villagers’ ancestors where the people who have suffered the most from the eruptions that have taken place in the past. This being said, there has not been an eruption for many years and although the peak is still deemed as active, another eruption is not expected for a long time. Wow...

Besakih Temple

Bali is island of Gods. There are thousands of temples in Bali. One of them is Pura Besakih, the Mother Temple of Besakih, in the village of Besakih on the slopes of Mount Agung, is the most important temple of Agama Hindu Dharma in Bali, and one of a series of Balinese temples. Pura Besakih is a must-go place. It signifies the oneness for the kingdom of Balinese Hindus.

Besakih Temple is located in Besakih countryside, Rendang sub district, Karangasem. Honestly, there are conflicting numbers on how many pura (temples) are there within the massive Besakih complex. The local pura guide mentioned of 28 temples, but many people believe that there are about 30 to 38 temples in Besakih temple complex.

Besakih Temple is the biggest Hindu temple in Bali which the local people call Pura Besakih. It owns beautiful view from the top of temple area where we can see the wide nature panorama until to the ocean so that way this temple is many visited by tourists from all over the world. The Besakih's name is come from the word of Basuki, the old language from Sanskrit Wasuki, and then it become the Ancient Java Language. In this Sanskrit, the Basuki means congratulation. In mythology of Samudramanthana has mentioned that Basuki is a dragon that twines the Mount Mandara. The omission has come from tradition megalithic which had been indicated that it had to be sanctified place. It seems the Besakih is coming from very old era which is far before the existence of Hinduism influence. Hereinafter, an Ancient Bali king of Sri Kesari Warmadewa found the Merajan Selonding Temple in this temple complex area. He also commands to build the Blanjong Monument that is located in Sanur Village.

Topeng Tua is one of the famous Topeng Dance performances. Underwater, the drop-off along the south shore and eastern tip, facing the Bali ocean, are home to lots of colorful small fish and vertebrates, lacy sea fans and a variety of sponges. The sandy, gradual slopes of Menjangan’s north coast are a final resting place for Bali’s oldest dive able shipwreck, the Anker Wreck. Even large pelagic are sometimes seen at Menjangan. Occasionally sightings of Whales, Whale sharks and Manta rays have been reported. Drift diving is usual, but currents are quite mild and all levels of divers can enjoy this area.

The northwest area has had his share of destructions. El Nino, storms have been hard on the corals. The marine life however is teaming and vibrant.

Day-trippers travelling from Sanur to the east Bali dive locations of Tulamben and Amed will get a look at our traditional Bali. The drive is approx. 3 hours. Diving in Tulamben is normally done from shore, where entry can be challenging. Many people prefer to stay overnight in Tulamben rather than day trip here. The local people are very friendly and Bali International Diving Professionals both support and know the local community. We have been diving in this area before it became developed as a popular dive destination. By diving in Tulamben you are also supporting the local community. Only in Tulamben will you see young and old women alike carrying diving equipment on their heads, to the dive entry points, to earn their living.

Amed and the villages south east of this area are becoming more popular with tourists. Life goes back in time here. For most of the year, the water is generally calm, with minimal to manageable currents. Many sites make excellent drift dives.

The sound of crashing surf on the shores is a part of the Oceanside feel, and the dive sites are part of the seascape. The imposing Gili Tepekong and the four outcrops of Gili Mimpang are directly offshore. Consistent currents flow with the full and varied marine life along the shallow reefs and walls that surround these

mysterious islands.

Padang Bai is a small but busy fishing village. The shore is a convenient place to dive.

When the channel is calm you can do a daytrip from Padang Bai to the reefs of Nusa Penida. Nusa Penida has been famous for its coral reefs and marine life, and also a beautiful sea view from the beach. Sanur is a waste of time to some people; however Bali International Diving Professionals have seen wonderful small creatures like the seahorse and mantis shrimp in this area. We feel that this is a good dive location for novice divers and refresher course participants and for those who do not have much time.

The minute marine life and coral formations make this an interesting, as well as a convenient, dive site. Sanur certainly doesn’t offer Bali’s best diving, but if you want a quick and easy dive this is the place to visit. Sanur beach is the best place to enjoy sunrise and Kuta beach is spectacular for sunset. It has been said that diving in Sanur can be magical if the visibility is good.
