The government had designatedCaribbean Flying Adventures to lead tours and provide information.

“For private aviation, it is a paradise,” said Jim Parker of Caribbean Flying tours. Flying physicians, pilot clubs, and private tour groups have brought their planes to the country. Alejandro Toribio said on Saturday.
The governor said Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has already sent a commission to begin construction of the 2,000 houses, which will be prefabricated.

©2009 HolaDR.com: Everything About The Dominican Republic!

The perception that Dominican men are unfaithful to their wives might be the elephant in the room, but a study by Omnicom Media Group is proving some initial figures into how big the elephant really is. According to the survey of 2,400 people, 73% of men admitted cheating on their partners, while only 26% of women admitted to their infidelity. There is a 5% margin of error in the study, one of few on Dominican sexual behavior.
A cement mine, granted under questionable circumstances, is putting one the Caribbean’s most important forest parks at risk, warns a group of NGOs and attorneys working to stop the project.
Work on the mine, which lies in the forested buffer zone of Dominican Republic’s Los Haitises National Park, was temporarily suspended by court order earlier this year but environmentalists and legal advocates say the ban could be lifted, allowing operator Consorcio Minero Dominicano to resume extracting limestone from…
©2009 HolaDR.com: Everything About The Dominican Republic!

SANTO DOMINGO, Oct 23 (IPS) – The Dominican Republic passed the 38th version of its constitution Thursday evening, amending more than 40 articles that drew public protests and opposition from civil society groups and many average Dominicans.
Drafted by sitting President Leonel Fernandez and his main political rival, Miguel Vargas, it met with little political opposition in Congress.
The last constitutional revision, in 2002, allowed a second consecutive presidential term. The new constitution allows for unlimited re-election of a president as…
©2009 HolaDR.com: Everything About The Dominican Republic!

Sammy Davis Junior is a friend of mine. I met him last week in the Dominican Republic. He poured me Santo-libre cocktails while balancing on the tailgate of a fast-moving truck. Santo-libres are the rum-and-Sprite cousin of the more familiar rum-and-Coke Cuba-libre. They taste just as good. I had not expected to find Sammy Davis Junior alive, well, and extreme-bartending in the Dominican Republic, but I knew precious little about the country before I…
©2009 HolaDR.com: Everything About The Dominican Republic!
