My Great grandfather Theodore O'Mahoney owned or managed the saloon in the Hotel in the late 1800's until his death in 1906 and I am always looking for information about the origins of the Grand Hotel or about him. I know that Theodore also owned a cafe at one time at the location that is now the Post Office in Charlotte Amelia. In researching his parentage and origins I have hit a major wall so any mention of him oyu might have run across would be wonderful.

thanks,
Donnamarie Barnes

My grandparents told me that my grandmother's (Dana Taylor Khan)'s father , Lord Taylor 's mother owned the Grand Hotel and the 1829 from 1900-1920. Long ago I did an inquiry where one of past owners did confirm that was true and there were Taylor reunions over the years at the hotel. I also emailed the library on St. Croix where they were compiling information saved from the danish west indies and preserved. Come to find out that my grandmother's brother , Bernardo was adopted by the Roebuck family due to my great grandfather's doubting his being the real father and Bernardo moved with his adoptive family to New York City? I might be wrong -it was LONG ago and it had only been conjecture and not confirmed when I inquired. IF you find any information confirming or otherwise, would you please contact me through Brandygee@aol.com? Thank You kindly! Maureen J. Khan Jr.

I am proud of my Sephardic heritage. my family, Cardoze, Athias, Robles, Sassa and DeCastro have been integral in maintaining a Jewish identity on St. Thomas for many generations. I am extremely pleased that the Synagogue was restored to it original splendor. I was not supportive of the plan in 1972 to remove the plaster from inside the synagogue but also from the beautiful columns on the outside. I could not understand what they were thinking!
