How many of you have watched this movie, “This Is It”?

If you have watched it, you will concur with what I am about to elucidate on my sharing, “Emulating Michael Jackson’s Rehearsal Strategies To Improve Your Own Presentation Shills”.

My review is not going to be a superficial one where, one admires his style and coolness. I am going deep and drill in what makes up the essence of Michael Jackson rehearsal’s techniques and how you can apply it on yourself.

If you watch the movie, you will notice on how competent and confident, he is….Yet, how competent and confident, he is, he patiently carried out the laborious process of rehearsing and rehearsing till perfection.

We have understood from my previous post that you need 10,000 hours of practice…, to be a MASTER IN ANYTHING.

Micheal Jackson is a MASTER of singing beautiful songs and spicing it up with his slicky, thriller dance moves. (he had practice it since he was a kid!)

Yet…even after being a MASTER, you need to rehearse to perform at your peak performance during your actual play.

This is what you can learn from Michael Jackson’s way of rehearsing.

You can use this method to rehearse for your upcoming presentation, rehearse it for your upcoming sports game you will play…YOU CAN PRACTICALLY DO IT IN to rehearse for ANY SITUATION.

You see, when you rehearse, you have to rehearse 3 key things.

1) Your Words
2) Your facial expression
3) Your tonality of your voice

Most people, when they rehearse for their presentation, they memorise the words…They “thought” the words are the most important element of all.

Come to actual presentation, they fumble, forget their words and fail….or worst, monotanously rattle what they have memorised earlier, incomprehensibly driving the audience to sleep.

Like Michael Jackson, when you rehearse, you not only have to have the rough idea on what you have to say (or sing), but also you have to rehearse your facial expression and your tonality of your voice.

YOUR COMMUNICATION is made up of
1) Words 3%
2) Tonality and Facial Expression 97%

You see, if you rehearse your words, without rehearsing your tonality and your facial expression while, rehearsing for your upcoming presentation, you are missing out a lot on the essence of communication.

Your communication will not be as effective as if you have rehearse, the tonality of your voice and your facial expression.

Of course, for Michael, on the extreme case, he has to gauge his pitch (notice he mentioned he has to save his voice for the later part), his dramatic dance moves etc2……which make up 97% of COMMUNICATION to his audiences that is definitely integral to success.

So….Ladies and gentlemen, REMEMBER….when you want to rehearse for any mass presentation, sales presentation for a big client, you have to rehearse not only the words you are going to use, you have to rehearse your tonality of your voice and facial expression!

Okay…In this post, I am going to share with you a secret that I stumbled upon a book, I am currently reading, called “Outliers”…

The author, Malcolm Gladwell conducted his own research on why some people just happened to succeed in their daily pursuit.

He research on Bill Gates, on Steve Jobs, on the famous Beatles…..on many successful people….

Why are these people so…successful? ….so good in what they are doing?

Why do Jews make up such good lawyers?

Is this something in born in them or….there’s a secret to it?

These questions seems intriguing to me for the fact, since young I am always impressed that why some people are just more intelligent than me.

Why do some people seems to know so much and rather competent in it…?

Do they have better brain or WHAT?

Are you ready to hear the “secret” to BECOME A MASTER IN ANYTHING YOU DREAM OF?

The answer is 10,000 hours.

Yes…It is simple but profound….You have to practice 10,000 hours.

You can only be a master in ANYTHING if you have devoted your blood, sweat, tears and time for 10,000 hours. Period.

Some people are just plain lucky, because the days when they are young, their environment preconditioned them to attain that 10,000 hours of training, and that is why they become so successful, so GOOD IN WHAT THEY ARE DOING!

If you are not that privilege to have such an environment, YOU CAN CREATE ONE! I aim to be a master of financial planning. Master of running a successful business.

I have been in this business for over 2 years. I work 6 days a week, but a matter of fact, I do think about my business everyday. From the moment, my eyes blinked in the morning, till the night when I sleep.

I eat, breath and sleep my business every day. Put there, I think about my business 12 hours a day. In one year, there is about 360 days. In one year, I clocked 4320 hours. In 2 years, I clocked 8640 hours.

I dont mind working hard, to be a master in something, I am deeply passionate about…..So, if you are passionate in something, and will like to be a master in it….

MY recommendation: Devote 10,000 hours in your field as fast as possible, and you will soon realise that you are going to be one of THE BEST IN YOUR FIELD!!

….Which means if touch wood,you get hospitalised, your medical expenses will be covered.

Now….I will like you to ponder for a while…..I will like you to ask yourself this question? Is your medical coverage enough? Are you adequately covered?

You see…..I asked this question because, one of my clients get a hospitalisation plan from me, just 3 months ago, and last week, he was warded in the hospital for 3 days.

Yet, he cant claim a single cent from his hospitalisation plan. WHY? Because he never adds a rider.

 Majority of my clients have a rider attached to their plan,but this client is very insistent on not adding rider because he do not want to fork out cash.

I feel sorry for him. He can only claim from his hospitalisation insurance policy if his medical bill is above $1500 (Deductible).

For those of you reading this blog, please….please…..ensure that you add in the rider to cover deductible and co-insurance for your hospitalisation plan.

In my 2 years in business, I have not done any death claim, but hospitalisation claims, a dozen….I believe, it is almost GUARANTEE for one to be hospitalised. It is a matter of time.

Dont save that few bucks and regret later!

There is a Malay proverb, saying, “alang,alang menyeluk pekesam, biar sampai ke pangkal lengan”….in its hip language, ‘wanna do something, do it all the way!!’……..(and I add,if not, don’t do at all)

It is going to be an EXTRAORDINARY journal, where I share my ups and downs and at the same time, frame it in a very objective manner. It can be like a case study type.

The format will be like this.
1) I will write my story
2) Look and interpret the experiences from an objective point of view
3) Ask myself questions
- What were some of the strengths that this gave me?
- What could I have done differently?
- What are some of the biggest moment in my life?

I was reviewing one of my notes which I learnt from one of the focus group discussion, I attended.

It was a research quoted by Anthony Compolo, one of the MDRT platform speakers. He mentioned that there was a survey done on a group of people reaching the age of 100.

They were asked, this POWERFUL question….. “You are now approaching 1oo in age. What are the 3 things that you wish you could have done MORE?”

A lot of things were brought up, leaving 3 things up on the list.

1) Reflect More
2) Risk More
3) Do more things that will leave a legacy

Everyday of my life, I go in my deep thinking routine to embed this 3 wishes of these people in my life. Feeling fulfilled that I have attain the dreams of the many, and achieve what’s desired.

This research has a profound effect on me. Perhaps it would on YOU too! So remember, Reflect More, Risk More & Do More Things To Leave A Legacy!
