Every time you forget something, do you worry about dementia?

When you start creeping up there in age, it’s easy to be a little nervous about memory loss. Losing your memory is like dying before you die.

Your memory doesn’t work quite as well as you age, but a little forgetfulness is no reason to worry about age dementia symptoms.

Many things other than aging alone can cause memory problems.

depression

dementia (severe problems with memory and thinking, such as Alzheimer’s disease)

side effects of drugs

strokes

head injury

alcoholism

Alzheimer’s disease starts by changing your recent memory. If you have Alzheimer’s disease you might remember even small details of your past but not be able to remember recent events or conversations. Over time, the disease affects all parts of your memory.

Age dementia symptoms are certainly worrisome. They are more than normal aging.

First you want to rule out any of the issues above that might be contributing to your memory loss. Don’t assume the worst until you have addressed other possibilities.

Signs that are concerning:

Repeating phrases or stories in the same conversation

Trouble making choices or handling money

Not being able to keep track of what happens each day

Forgetting how to do things you’ve done many times before

Forgetting how to get to a place you’ve been to often

Forgetting things much more often than you used to

Trouble learning new things or doing things that require steps (such as following a recipe)

Research suggests that the stress hormone cortisol plays a major role in dementia by increasing insulin levels. There is evidence that excess circulating insulin in the brain causes lesions similar to those believed to cause Alzheimer’s disease.

Which means that unmanaged stress makes you more likely to lose your memory.

You recognize stress in your life when it jumps up and bites you. However, there are major stressors that you might ignore until they sneak up and cause troublesome issues.

Spouse care givers of dementia patients are more likely than noncaregivers to be depressed, socially isolated, and neglect their own health.

If you are living with a heart breaking care giving situation, you need to be aware of the danger to your well being. It is important that you make a concentrated effort to plan self care and socialization.

When you see yourself withdraw from life, and stop doing things you love, be aware that your health depends on meeting your needs. If you don’t take care of you, you can’t maintain quality compassionate care giving.

As far as your memory is concerned, there are many things you can do on a regular basis to nurture yourself.

Keep lists.

Follow a routine.

Make associations (connect things in your mind), such as using landmarks to help you find places.

Keep a detailed calendar.

Put important items, such as your keys, in the same place every time.

Repeat names when you meet new people.

Do things that keep your mind and body busy.

Run through the ABC’s in your head to help you think of words you’re having trouble remembering. “Hearing” the first letter of a word may jog your memory.

Be gentle with yourself. You don’t want to cause yourself unnecessary stress!

Remember that the single most important thing that you can do to preserve your memory is to PLAN self care!

Do you have a persistent cough that doesn’t want to go away?

Is it driving you nuts?

Lena had sinus issues.

She said her family doctor had made the comment years ago, that her nose was … “not a white man’s nose”.

Though a funny story, she was at a loss for exactly what that meant, and wondered if the doctor had racial issues.

All Lena knew was that her nose was always stuffed up.

She accepted the daily use of antihistamines as her lot in life.

They seemed harmless enough. Lena really didn’t notice any side effects, but then she had been using them for so many years she had lost count.

When I began to question Lena about her re-occurring persistent cough, I was actually hopeful that it could be caused by sinus issues.

Lena insisted that the cough was coming from her lungs.

Persistently coughing up clear mucus is indicative of fluid in your lungs. I was hopeful that Lena was wrong. Fluid in your lungs is a serious issue.

You can often verify fluid in the lungs by listening with a stethoscope, though that fluid will not show up on x-ray early on in the disease process.

In Lena’s case, when I listened to her back over the lowest three ribs on each side for the tell tale popping sounds of fluid, I heard nothing at all. I heard no air flow in or out.

If Lena had fluid in her lungs it was not audible.

I encouraged Lena to inquire with her doctor about getting an inhaler. Whether or not she had fluid in her lungs, Lena needed to ventilate better.

Lena’s doctor wouldn’t give her an order for an inhaler because she wasn’t wheezing.

After purchasing an over the counter inhaler and giving it a try, Lena was surprised how much more deeply she could breathe.

When I took a listen to her lungs she had little squeaks all over the place, but not necessarily fluid. This solved the problem of the lack of a prescription inhaler. Her doctor gave her one right away when she showed up at his office wheezing and squeaky.

However, the persistent cough continued.

I had mentioned to Lena that her daily antihistamine dosing might be problematic many times before. Shear sleep deprivation and fatigue ate away at her resistance until she was ready to take absolutely any advice and give it a try.

“How can I stop this cough?”

When I brought up the subject of antihistamines with Lena, she protested yet again. She couldn’t fathom the possibility that her harmless daily antihistamine could possibly be the culprit.

I had to pull out documentation of the side effects to stifle her argument, but that certainly GOT her attention.

She was shocked and in a state of disbelief so I gave her some time to digest the information.

Lena finally came to me ready to commit to a trial period so that she could observe, with an open mind, her body’s reaction to life without antihistamines.

We discussed various treatment options and made a plan. Lena was already whining during the planning stages about her stuffy nose, and the complaining certainly got worse before it got better.

Lena really committed to her treatment plan, though. She was a trooper and her persistence with using a salt water flush via nettie pot, and frequent doses of Xlear Nasal Wash started to pay off. The longer Lena went without antihistamines the less squeaky her lungs became, and the less she coughed.

An even bigger surprise for Lena was how much more calm she felt. She said she hadn’t noticed that she was tense before, but she sure did feel better without the antihistamines making her feel irritable.

Lena’s persistent cough quickly became less intense. It gradually got looser and more productive, and then completely went away.

Lena finds that her bum sinuses need consistent self care but she is so pleased with life without antihistamine side effects that she is willing to keep working at it.

Holidays are a great excuse to spend quality time with the people you love!

Yesterday’s Independence Day celebration was no exception.

Everywhere I went I saw families laughing, eating and playing together. There is nothing like a good stress reducer game to take your mind off your worries.

Does your inner child remember how to play?

My family started the day in Volcano Village at the parade and festivities as usual. The parade was soggy, but we are a never say die community, so there has never been a Fourth of July parade that was canceled because of rain!

There was a very small crowd in attendance.

The folks who usually head up the hill to catch the traditional Volcano parade must have stayed down the mountain where it was warm and far less rainy.

We highlanders are a hearty bunch! The rain just made the party far more intimate.

There were familiar friendly faces everywhere enjoying the local entertainment and food, and browsing the beautiful craft booths. My what a talented little village Volcano is!

My daughters sang with their friends from the Summer Musical cast of Peter Pan. That was really fun! Most of the community will be there Friday for opening night as well!

Community theater gets much love and support from the Volcano community! They seem to grow talent up there!

The talented cast members were followed up by super talented kids who wowed the crowd, a very interesting middle eastern dance display, and then the UPS guy rocked the place with his band. Heck, I didn’t know the UPS guy was even in a band!

My teenagers were longing to hook up with friends to continue the party down the hill at the fireworks celebration, but everyone had family plans.

I was happy to accommodate so we headed to Queen Liliuokalani Park, where several of their friends’ families were headed.

As a single mom, living far from any family ties, I’m used to my kids craving family. It used to make me sad that I couldn’t fill that void for them. Over the years, I have seen them embrace the community as their extended family. I feel such a healing from watching them create such a firm bond with so many people.

What a diverse group of people our family has become!

We got to the park shortly before the fireworks started. My basket was heavy and I was worn out from the day, so I headed to the water and parked myself on a grassy patch under charming palm trees.

It was dark and smoky but my teenagers found friends easily before the fireworks got under way. The technology age sure has created resourceful kids. I had to laugh as I eaves dropped on their conversations to pin point each other.

They were a bit miffed that I wasn’t up for traipsing around the park to find their friends. I knew where they were headed and I wasn’t worried about their safety, so I was happy to kick back and relax for a while.

My five year old would much rather have been with his sisters, but he snuggled down on our blanket and watched the fireworks all around us.

“Why are the fireworks not up in the sky, mom?” He kept asking. Though each time he said it, I assured him the big fireworks in the sky would start soon.

Once the fireworks display began he wasn’t disappointed!

I have never seen a fireworks show quite like that one. I loved it, and I usually associate fireworks to pollution and waste! Shoot, anything that scared my beloved dog was an evil thing in my book when I was 20 something.

Last night I opened up to the experience because my kids were excited about it.

Since the Queen’s Park is so close to Coconut Island, where the fireworks were being launched, the show was directly over head and the noise could be felt as well as heard.

My little guy was blown away by the awesome display!

Nick couldn’t even sit down by the end of it. It was just too exciting! The whole park exploded in loud cheering from the crowd following the grand finale. It was so much fun.

The quiet following the fireworks show was a wonderful contrast. I stretched out on the blanket and looked up at the sky. The star filled night sky seemed to hold three clouds perfectly still over the palm trees above me. It was like time stopped.

Through the smoky haze I could see families on a slow migration back to their cars, but every time I looked back up at the sky, time stopped again. The feeling was so wonderful it gave me goose bumps.

Nick was really enjoying the whole experience. I could hear his chatter about the colors of the fireworks, and the water lapping the shore, and the stars, and on and on …

Briana and Makayla returned and dug into the picnic basket, busy with laughter and reminiscing.

The timeless night sky kept me captivated while their happiness wrapped me in Joy and Appreciation.

If you know what COPD stands for, you probably heard it from your doctor, or someone you know who has COPD.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, is code word for can’t exhale.

If you can’t get the stale air out, you can’t reload with fresh air.

Lung disease is progressive. It sneaks up on ya.

COPD stages happen a little at a time.

Pam called me when she came home from her doctors office with a “mild copd” diagnosis.

“How can I have copd?” she asked.

“I don’t smoke.”

“They said it might be all the years I lived with a wood stove as my heat source.”

I told Pam that I could hear her upset, and just wanted to encourage her to make the most of her lung health.

“After all, mild copd means that you have time to optimize your lung function and minimize damage.”

“How in the world do I do that?” she asked.

I knew Pam was very careful about her diet so I advised plenty of fatty acids in addition to the good wholesome foods she was already eating.

I also recommended that Pam try:

natural remedies for her cough

an inhaler from her doctor to get better lung expansion when she was having a coughing jag

daily use of Holosync Meditation

Pamela actually had all of the above in her house, but I’m not convinced she used any of them.

Plus I restated many things I have advised her to do in the past, when she has come to me with various complaints over the years.

“Are you remembering to” …

do deep breathing?

take a daily brisk walk in natural light?

laugh frequently?

get plenty of sleep?

self care?

I gave Pam that advice when she was an empty nest mom unsure of how to take care of herself after many years of neglect.

She had started a program to build her muscle mass and address her bone density concerns, and she was working to find ways to address ongoing issues with anxiety and tension.

When Pam called me after the trip to her doctor over a persistent cough, she was primary caregiver to her 3 young grand children.

Pam was overwhelmed with the reality of her deteriorating health, the fear she felt about a stranger caring for the children, and the heart ache of giving up the role as primary caregiver for her precious grand children.

I wish I could report that Pam followed all of the advice I gave her and reduced her work load.

Lung disease progresses relentlessly if it goes unchecked.

The best thing you can do is all of the above, NOW!

Increase your oxygen level from the inside out, or suffer the consequences!

The last time I bumped into Pam, she looked awful and was not at peace with herself.

I gave her a hug and whispered in her ear.

“If you can’t relax, you can’t use all of your lungs, and if you work yourself to death, you will be dead.”

We didn’t have time to talk long. When she finished paying for her groceries, she rushed off waving good-bye with a tear in her eye and three little ones in-tow.

I didn’t mean to upset her, but it was so hard to see her forget herself.

When you can’t remember who YOU are. Self care becomes a moving target.

Get still and get to know you again.

That’s where it all starts.

With your first efforts to get completely still for even a few minutes, you will notice the tension.

Funny how running at a constant pace we are rarely aware of our tension. When you attempt to sit still, and still your mind, your tension can become unbearable.

Your number one priority is to release tension.

Surrender your tension and find peace!

1. Tension squeezes your lungs, and the only way to breathe more deeply is to routinely release the tension.

2. If you can’t be still, you can’t release tension.

Exhale your tension.

With every breath there will be more room to breathe deeper and release more tension.

3. Inactivity causes the muscles you breathe with to become weaker and weaker.

You want strong breathing muscles so that you can breathe deeply, use all of your lungs and release all of your tension!

4. Whether you are active or not, devote time to strengthen your breathing muscles by taking 20-40 deep breaths daily!

That might seem silly, but it is the number one immune booster for healthy and sick folks alike.

When there is no other demand on your body, and you are totally relaxed is the best time to focus on your breathing muscles and build lung capacity.

5. Be active! Even if you are wheel chair bound, or bedridden, you can work your heart and lungs by working your arms and doing leg lifts. Move it or lose it!

If you are an able bodied person ya got no excuse!

Get your doctors ok first, but get moving.

JJ Virgin teaches burst training. I love it!

warm up for 15 minutes

pick an activity and go all out for 30–60 seconds

the goal is to exhaust yourself, increasing intensity but never time

do this “burst” of activity 4 times, resting between sets

You will build muscle mass, and you will love it!

6. Your muscles pull your lungs open, and you exhale by elastic recoil. Fatty acids such as olive oil can help to make your lungs more stretchy and less stiff.

SO CAN WATER! So sip water all day!

If your lungs are tight and wheezy, or you just have trouble blowing a candle out, do something about it!

Treat wheezing with prescription inhalants or natural remedies, and keep trying until you find something that is effective.

Wheezy tight lungs result in poor air exchange -> which results in decreased oxygen levels -> which weakens your heart muscle -> which leads to heart failure.

7. Increasing your oxygenation and ventilation will powerfully improve your health.

Expect symptoms to improve or disappear.

If you are not making significant progress doing simple deep breathing on your own, then start looking for a method that resonates with you.

End COPD stages are very different than early COPD stages. Make sure you understand the facts.

“I should get up and take a walk?”

Do you believe that you can choose to be happier?

Emotional Exercise Benefits Can Help

more energy

regular dose of endorphines

(pleasure chemicals generated by your body during exercise)

regular doses of serotonin and tryptophan

(mood regulating chemicals that are produced during exercise)

fights depression with increased endorphines, serotonin, and tryptophan

improves self esteem

stress management

improves sleep resulting in better mood and improved ability to cope with stress

(just don’t exercise right before bed)

reduces PMS symptoms

improves mental agility

enhances creativity and imagination

reduces anxiety and stress

Can you see how regular exercise enables you to choose a better mood?

Considering the physical benefits of exercise will make you smile too!

Do you know what the physical benefits of exercise are?

increased metabolism makes weight loss easier

reduces total body fat

lowers total cholesterol, especially bad cholesterol

increases good cholesterol, giving you more energy

improves immune system

improves insulin sensitivity

lowers risk of bone and joint disease

Pretty good news, wouldn’t you say?

Maybe exercise isn’t a dirty word after all!

Can you think of any other way to gain all those benefits?

The time you spend exercising is time well spent!

Once you get moving avoid sabotaging your emotional exercise benefits!

Many choices you make everyday cause a negative shift.

Life with more endorphines, serotonin and tryptophan is a bright and shiny place. You don’t want to rain on your own parade!

Tips To Protect Your Good Mood

limit time spent with negative people

choose positive television when you watch

(that pretty much eliminates the news)

avoid reading about violence and negative images

breathe deeply

meditate (Holosync technology can make it easy.)

choose healthy foods

drink green smoothies

practice heart math

Negative people start to rub off on you. Their negativity will get under your skin if you share company for long.

Murder mystery and action thrillers might seem like a good way to pass time, but the negativity you take on when you focus your attention on violence is not beneficial.

No news is good news. To the newspaper good news is no news. If you want good news, talk to your friends and family. Giving your time to the news in the media promises a whopping dose of negative energy.

Breathing deeply will discharge negative energy and lift your spirits.

Breathing deeply while meditating with Holosync technologies will cause you to create healthier brain waves.

Sugar highs cause sugar lows! When you choose chemicalized foods and stimulants you affect your mood far more than you think! Fresh food feels really good.

Green For Life has great down to earth instruction on how to use your blender to improve your health instantly.

You can support happiness through nutrition.

Green smoothies will reduce or eliminate your cravings for unhealthy foods and give you a better appetite for healthy foods.

The large dose of magnesium you get in a green smoothie will cause natural relaxation that contributes to a “hang loose” attitude.

With solid nutrition, a “hang loose” attitude, and some fun activity (exercise) life will start to look pretty bright and shiney!

You really can choose to re-tune yourself.

Heart Math is about re-tuning yourself to Joy!

The more often you make the choice to create a joyous vibration in your body, the more often you will feel Joyous.

It will become your normal frequency.

* You are vibrating with energy all the time.
* Your energy is dark, fearful and powerless …
* Bright, joyful, and full of appreciation …
* Or somewhere in between.

Here’s a simple re-tuning tool called a “Freeze Frame”

(A little taste of Heart Math.)

1. Think of a joyous feeling … a time when you were absolutely filled with joy.

2. Focus on the area of your heart.

Breathe in and out …

focus on the area of your heart …

breathe in and out …

breathe as though you are breathing through your heart …

3. Breathe as though you were breathing Your Joy through you heart!

Feel the joy …

focus your breathing on your heart.

Now check in and see if you aren’t vibrating a little bit closer to Joy?

Heart disease is the number one killer in the US.

When you worry about heart disease you are probably thinking of a heart attack.

It’s great to be aware of the symptoms of a heart attack.

Getting help before it’s too late is key to your survival.

There is another symptom of heart disease that can sneak up on you, deteriorating your quality of life without you being aware that something is wrong.

This very same heart disease symptom can also kill you instantly!

Do You Want To Know Which Heart Disease Symptom Could Kill You Instantly?

Low Oxygen Levels can spontaneously stop your heart!

Does that sound far fetched to you?

Many times, patients with low oxygen level don’t know they have it.

Do you have any of the following symptoms?

shortness of breath/ difficulty breathing

extreme fatigue

chest tightness

mental confusion/ short-term-memory loss

tingling fingers

chronic cough

blue coloring around lips

waking at night gasping for breath

water retention (especially feet/ ankles)

If you have any of these symptoms, you may have low oxygen levels.

If you have low blood oxygen levels you WILL lose your eye sight, your short term memory, your strength, and your charming disposition.

Tanya was so blue (literally) one day when I arrived at her home that I sat her down and forcibly put oxygen on her. She wasn’t happy about it, but she seemed to calm down quickly as the color returned to her face.

I called her doctor from her house, as I was concerned about her low oxygen level at 77% resting on room air. I gave her quite a lecture about keeping that oxygen on until her doctor appointment the following day, and I left her feeling I had done all I could do.

The next time I went to Tanya’s home to check on her, she was blue again.

“Why aren’t you using oxygen, Tanya?” I asked.

With quite the attitude, she let me know, “my doctor says that you over reacted the last time you were here. He told me to use it when I feel like I need it. I am fine.”

Tanya’s oxygen level was 76%. She refused to even allow me to put the oxygen on her this time.

“After all,” she said, “I walk 2 miles every morning. What makes you think I need oxygen?”

Well, I tried once more to let her know why she needed to use oxygen. This time, she could not hear me.

Her doctor told her what she wanted to hear, and I was telling her what she didn’t want to hear.

She was dead in 4 months.

I was shocked that a person could live that long with such a low oxygen level, though she wasn’t living well. Many times I’ve wondered if she had been happier before she got so sick.

Tanya had plenty of good years left.

Mindfulness Meditation is a type of meditation that essentially involves focusing your mind on the present in a way that allows you to witness your thoughts and actions without judging yourself.

Is there a secret to allowing what is?

If there is a secret to Mindfulness Meditation, it is creating a still space that will serve as your doorway to Now.

Can you be still?

Does the constant conversation in your head ever stop?

Pamela was a very together lady.

She ran a day care out of her home, and you never saw a place so clean, tidy and on schedule!

The woman appeared to have calm and serene down to a science. When she picked up a bell and rang it, the toddlers buzzing about her feet jumped up and began singing “clean up clean up everybody everywhere, clean up clean up, everybody do your share”.

They all did their share and the room was clean in a flash. It was an amazing sight to see. I thought that only happened on television.

A super hero disguised as a little old lady!

I felt like I should ask for her autograph. The woman had everything under control!

She became a good friend to me, and “Auntie Pam” to my young daughters.

When the two of us decided to take a meditation class together, I saw a side of Auntie Pam that shocked me.

The class was free and given by a neighbor who just couldn’t wait to introduce us all to Centerpointe Technology’s Holosync.

I only needed five minutes with Holosync to know that this was powerful technology. Quieting the thoughts that usually raced through my brain was surprisingly easy. I felt a smile spread across my face.

In my Joy I felt impatient to share my excitement with Auntie Pam, so I opened my eyes and glanced in her direction hoping to give her my smile of approval. I was shocked to see calm, cool and collected Auntie Pam sobbing her eyes out!

Our teacher assured us that sticking it out would be well worth it. He said if we could remain sitting upright for the entire hour long meditation, we would get much more benefit out of the session than if we reclined and fell asleep.

(This powerful technology actually puts you in a wakeful sleep state.)

We met daily to share our meditation time and support each other. Each day I drifted into bliss, and then I would hear Pamela begin to sob. I tried to share with her how I surrendered to whatever came up for me and just allowed the emotions.

Pamela gave it several weeks worth of effort, but finally gave up and resigned herself to sleeping through her meditation. It may not be as beneficial, but she would not allow the crying to continue.

She said it was just too frightening.

Is creating stillness really as hard as it seems?

Is surrendering control frightening and painful?

The Secret to Stillness is Surrender.

Meditation is the most potent way to lower stress and create peace of mind in these highly stressful times.

If you can allow it, Holosync is a short cut.

7 Benefits of Stimulating your brain with Holosync

1. Safely and effortlessly takes you to states of profoundly deep (and extremely pleasurable) meditation…

2. Stimulates the creation of new neural pathways between the right and left hemispheres of your brain, balancing your brain and leading you to a high-performance state scientists call “whole brain functioning”…

3. Dramatically improves your learning ability, memory, intuition, creativity, and your ability to focus, concentrate and think more clearly…

4. Creates true quantum leaps in your personal self awareness…

5. Significantly lowers your stress levels and lowers your levels of harmful brain chemicals related to stress…

6. Creates remarkable improvements in your mental and emotional health—even in areas that have stubbornly resisted change with other approaches…

7. Dramatically increases your production of vital (and very pleasurable) brain chemicals related to your longevity, well-being, and quality of life…

Tears will not kill you. In fact, I’d like you to entertain the idea that tears may very well wash you clean.

Pamela and I both test drove Holosync ten years ago.

She tells me she isn’t sure where her copy is, and she can’t remember the last time she took the time to use it.

Surrender magically delivers me to blissful Joy several times every week. I can’t imagine life without Holosync.

Holosync -> Accelerate your mental, emotional, and spiritual growth!

Hey, God is the one driving the ship, you may as well give up control. It’s only an illusion anyway.

Surrender and check out blissful Joy.

Within the stillness of blissful Joy, you will witness your thoughts and actions without judging yourself.

When you think of “shell shock” what comes to mind?

During World War One Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome was a huge problem. Doctors believed that the tell tale “thousand yard stare” was a sign that the close proximity of exploding shells had caused trauma to the brain.

If you take that reasoning into consideration, it is troublesome to discover that it was common practice for Doctors to prescribe rest away from the front for Officers, while enlisted men were often accused of being cowards and sent right back out to the battlefield.

Some were shot for cowardice, or punished in a variety of creative ways. Though enlisted men would be more likely to have been in close proximity of exploding shells than Officers, wouldn’t they?

If you are likely to be shot on the spot or court martialed you aren’t very likely to seek help when you need it most.

It seems that the history of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome is one of shame and persecution.

With soldier suicides being such a huge issue in today’s world, you hear a lot about what they are doing to identify those who need help in an effort to control the climbing death toll.

The struggle today is to get soldiers to admit that they need help before it’s too late. They aren’t facing a firing squad, but they feel like they are letting their unit down. They aren’t keeping up their end.

Admitting that you need help with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome feels like admitting a weakness.

When you think of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome you might think of soldiers at war. However, emergency response workers are on the front lines of daily life.

Identifying those who need help among emergency response workers can be very difficult as well. Admitting you need help might endanger your job and your livelihood.

Family caregivers are at risk as well. They don’t realize they need help when they are overcome with Compassion Fatigue and allow self care to fall away. They don’t notice how bad things have become. Family caregivers are very protective of their loved ones and often unwilling to relinquish control of their care, even if it means destroying their own health in the process.

Does this sound familiar to you?

You are much more likely to see Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome OR Compassion Fatigue in someone other than yourself.

The two conditions are very similar. Anxiety may not accompany Compassion Fatigue, but many of the other symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome are shared by both.

As well, compassionate people are much more likely to experience Post Traumatic Stress in their lifetime than someone who has less empathy.

If your life isn’t falling apart, you might believe there is no need to give Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome any further thought.

Before you dismiss the issue completely, I’d like you to consider the facts.

Just the frequent occurrence of a Post-Traumatic Stress Response can disrupt your whole life: your job, your relationships and even your enjoyment of everyday activities.

There is a high price to pay for ignoring the symptoms of this daunting health issue.

The most important aspect of treating Post Traumatic Stress is finding effective stress management tools.

I encourage you to reject the label “Post Traumatic Stress Disorder” and look at your Post Traumatic Stress Symptoms as red flags of warning that you need intense self care and a reliable support system.

Emotions can be processed in a healthy way.

If your health care provider doesn’t offer good advice on how to attend to your emotional needs (without drugs), then find a health coach who will.

Your increased blood pressure, and production of stress hormones, as well as the other physical symptoms of a post traumatic response are damaging.

Ignoring Symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome Can Cost You Everything!

If you don’t find a healthy way to address your symptoms, you face a much higher than normal risk of:

Depression

Drug abuse

Alcohol abuse

Eating disorders

Suicidal thoughts and actions

Cardiovascular disease

Chronic pain

Auto immune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and thyroid disease

Musculoskeletal conditions

Shell shock is nothing to be ashamed of …

No Matter What the Cause!

If you have any of these symptoms, seek help:

Feeling emotionally numb

Avoiding activities you once enjoyed

Hopelessness about the future

Memory problems

Trouble concentrating

Difficulty maintaining close relationships

Irritability or anger

Overwhelming guilt or shame

Self-destructive behavior, such as drinking too much

Trouble sleeping

Being easily startled or frightened

Hearing or seeing things that aren’t there

Don’t you feel great when you plan ahead and prepare healthy foods for on the go?

The good food choices keep you feeling your best. Being prepared and having all your bases covered feels great as well.

Have a few hectic days in a row, and it really exhausts your reserves. Grab unhealthy fast food and keep a frantic pace for even one day and you are running on empty, have several in a row and it creates a deficit that can be hard to recover from.

Once you establish a new healthy diet plan it will create continued success only so long as you stick with it.

Sue lost 120 pounds over about 2 years.

She was so proud of her accomplishment!

Sue knew that she would never go back to the way she used to live. Her new life was worth all the difficult changes she’d made. She would gladly trade all those comfort foods that used to be so much a part of her day, for the friends and activities that now crowded her busy schedule.

Life as Sue had become accustomed to it ended abruptly one night when she answered the phone and found out that her father had experienced a major health crisis and her family was gathering at his bedside.

The next morning she bought tickets and made arrangements for the trip back to her parents home in Montana.

Her sister picked her up at the airport and 2 weeks of emotional highs and lows followed. Sue was glad to have the support of her family, but she still found herself needing those familiar comfort foods she had given up to reach her goal weight. She was worried about the pounds she was packing back on, but figured she would have to deal with it once she could return to some sort of normalcy.

At the funeral, Sue just could not stop eating. All the foods of her childhood where spread out on a table, and the raw heart ache from losing her father had her reeling.

On the flight back home the following morning, Sue felt puffy and bloated as well as heavy with grief. She looked forward to getting back to a routine.

Coming home was certainly comforting. But Sue was surprised to find that she had cravings that drove her crazy. It wasn’t as easy to step back into the regiment that she had created for the 2 years of successful weight loss.

Her heart was aching, and it seemed to cause an appetite for all the wrong foods and it was next to impossible to ignore the relentless cravings!

Green Smoothies were something Sue had always resisted. She didn’t mind eating wholesome foods, but the thought of blending them up and drinking them made her want to gag.

She began to give the disgusting green drink more thought when one of her friends shared her testimonial about complete relief from cravings almost immediately after starting Green Smoothies.

Sue almost hated to admit it when her cravings stopped after her very first Green Smoothie. She wasn’t enjoying chewing her breakfast every morning, but hey whatever works!

The pain of grieving kept Sue using Emotional Freedom Technique to work through her most difficult times, but those Green Smoothies were the secret weapon that kept her from sabotaging herself with comfort food.

When you get off on the wrong track, Green Smoothies can rescue your healthy diet plan!

To Maintain All the Benefit Your Green Smoothies Offer …

Remember these tips:

rotate your leafy greens so that the tiny dose of any specific alkaloid (poison) does not build up in your system (switch between kale, spinach, collards, dandelion greens, etc.)

the “green” part of your smoothie should always be “leafy” (broccoli and snap peas etc have far more carbs than you want in your greens/fruit magic elixer)

maintain a smoothie ratio of 60% fruit to 40% leafy greens

use at least 2 cups of water for every smoothie (you can use more but never reduce the amount of water in your Green Smoothies)

drink water all day, in addition to what’s in your Green Smoothie, to help flush your body

ideally do not eat with your Green Smoothie (no food 40 minutes before or after)

papaya, mango, apple and pear are particularly easy to digest

local and fresh produce is best if you can get it

enjoy the benefits of better sleep, more energy, mental clarity, less cravings, better poops, and easy weight loss

read the book Green For Life and discover more of the WHY behind this healthy diet plan booster

Does a daily Green Smoothie sound foreign to you?

Try to keep an open mind. The change might be easier than you ever imagined. When you feel good it is easy to make healthier choices!

Do you ever feel significant chest pain?

Does it worry you?

Any type of chest pain that causes you concern or that is accompanied by any of the following symptoms, should be considered an emergency:

Pressure, tightness and squeezing pain across the chest

Pain radiating down the arm, shoulders, jaw, neck, and back, particularly on the left side

Shortness of breath

Dizziness, sweating, weakness, overwhelming fatigue

Feeling of impending doom

Headache, blurry vision, lightheadedness, feeling faint

Gastrointestinal symptoms such as indigestion, nausea and vomiting

Coughing and palpitations

You are much better safe than sorry.

If you experience symptoms like those above, you want to get to a hospital and rule out the possibility that you are having a heart attack.

Do not reason it away and lose valuable time.

There are many other causes of chest pain that can become worrisome, but they won’t give you sudden extreme symptoms like those of a heart attack.

Any of the following might give you chest pain:

GERD or heartburn

excessive belching

hiatal hernia

gastric ulcer

pulled muscle

Suffice to say that if you are worried, seek the advice of your doctor.

With that said, let me also say that even if you think your chest pain is related to stress, it is still cause for concern.

Your body reacts to stress by releasing two hormones, adrenalin and cortisol.

Adrenalin gives you a quick surge of fight or flight response. While cortisol, the primary stress hormone, effects you for longer periods of time.

Cortisol is the culprit for most of the dire health crisis that are associated with prolonged stress.

Chronic stressors such as major life changes (marriage, divorce, birth of a child, death of a loved one, etc.) as well as psychological stress, have been linked to cardiovascular disease.

Personality factors such as anger, hostility, depression and anxiety have been related to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease as well.

3 Things To Remember About Stress Chest Pain Symptoms

1. The stress response slows down digestion and reduces blood flow to the gastrointestinal organs.

Have you ever had chest pain after eating when you were stressed?

Your stomach actually lies under your lower left rib cage. When you feel pain coming from your stomach, you might mistake it for heart attack symptoms.

2. Cortisol causes you to store tension in your muscles.

This accumulating tension causes you to breathe shallow. Lung function correlates to health and longevity, so it is easy to see why this aspect of the stress response is so problematic.

Your chest is a “busy intersection”. Your esophagus is carrying food to your stomach. Your treachea is carrying air to and from your lungs. Your spine is delivering every message your nervous system sends out to your body. Plus all those muscles doing the work of pushing and pulling, as well as that big heart muscle that pumps blood to every cell in your body.

This busy intersection can definitely be a source of pain if you are not using an effective stress management tool to help discharge the tension.

3. Your Stress Response results in increased blood pressure and inflammation, the cause of heart disease.

If you are experiencing stress chest pain take it as a warning sign that you need to reduce your stress if possible, utilize effective stress management tools, and take steps to reduce inflammation in your body.

Eat more fruits and veggies

Eating alkaline – anti inflammatory foods over time will really help reduce the damage caused by your stress response.

Get active

Exercise and aerobic circulation are extremely helpful in reducing inflammation and managing the harmful affects stress.

(Aerobic circulation ->Meaning being active with plenty of oxygen.)

Tumeric

Tumeric is one great natural anti-inflammatory!

Vitamin C is so useful in reducing inflammation!

One of the most powerful things I do each day to self nurture is to take high dose vitamin C.

Swedish research points out that stress chest pain is most prevalent in middle-aged people who lead a sedentary lifestyle.

If you are middle-aged and sedentary you can expect to experience stress chest pain. Take breaks and get up and move around more.

There is no substitute for activity.

Move it or lose it. Chest pain is a red flag of warning!

Change is hard to make in isolation.

Meeting with a fun supportive community once each week can make change a whole lot easier.
