Buying a TV used to be easy, all buyers needed to worry about were the basic things such as size, price and additional features. You must know the difference between one type of TV from the other. One popular type of TV is the High Definition LED. It has many forms of variation nowadays you need to read an HD LED TV buying guide to help you decide on which product to settle.

HD LED TV vs. 3D TV vs. OLED TV

It’s important before buying to read into the basics of HD LED TV buying guide you need to understand first the difference between an HD LED, 3D and the latest OLED TV. High definition LED TV refers to a television which uses LED as its backlights. 3D TV on the other hand refers to any type of TV, whether LED, LCD or plasma, which has the capacity to create a 3D scene using a special type of eyeglasses. Meanwhile, an OLED TV does not have a backlight. Instead, it uses organic chemical-based electroluminescent layer as its light source. The images produced are very high in contrast ratios.

Screen Size

The most basic thing an HD LED TV buying guide will discuss is the size of the TV screen. An HDTV screen size is generally 1 inch to 3 inches less than the size of the entire screen. For example, a 40-inch HDTV has an actual screen size of 38 inches. In choosing a TV, it must fit the TV cavity but must have one inch space at the top and bottom of the screen. This is to provide proper ventilation. Next is the seating distance. As a rule of thumb, the seating distance must not be nearer than 1.5 times the screen size’s diagonal measurement.

Ease of Use

A wise HD LED TV buying guide tells you to choose a product with the easiest navigation system as well as explanations for different menu selections. Any product usually comes with a product manual. However, there are now televisions embedded with onscreen manuals. Onscreen tutorials are more convenient compared to reading each explanation in a manual. Besides, product manuals tend to be forgotten and may be misplaced later. Also, watch out for product support such as toll free numbers and email address for troubleshooting or repair concerns.

Energy Efficiency

Each TV has its own efficiency level. Some HDTVs are more expensive than others but are energy efficient. In the long run, they prove to be more cost-effective than other models which are cheaper but consume more energy. Also try to look for special power-saving features. One HD LED TV buying guide claims that Energy Star is insignificant when looking for cost-effective TVs. However, for green-conscious consumers, this may be an important consideration when buying an appliance.

Remote Control

Most televisions nowadays have their own remote controls. Popular brands sell replacement for remote controls while others can be controlled by a universal model. Go for infrared controlled models as opposed to HDMI controlled ones. Remote controls come in different sizes too. If only person is expected to use the television, choose an HD LED TV with a remote control that fits snuggly into your hand. However, if the whole family is expected to use it, go for a medium-sized clicker. Those with backlit buttons are a better choice for easy distinction.

Inputs

Many HD LED TV buying guide authors put emphasis on the number ports. Ideally, there should be a minimum of three ports especially if it is a living room TV. It should be able to connect to a game console, a DVD / BluRay player, satellite box, HD cable or a component. You must note that newer TV models are usually designed to be connected to newer versions of consoles, DVD player or any electronic gear. If you have older electronics that you plan to connect to the TV, make sure your chosen model has the proper inputs too.

Not all LED TVs are created equal. That is why an HD LED TV buying guide is a must-read before deciding on a particular brand or model. Checking out buying guides and reviews will definitely make it easier for you to decide the best TV for you. Additionally, it will save you on time and effort when shopping for a TV in the market.

With the switch from standard to high definition televisions and the promise of future quad resolution televisions, big things are happening in the industry. One of the most exciting future products is the Samsung OLED TV models. OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) televisions have never before been created for home use, but all that is about to change. Samsung and other companies are offering up something unique in the world of television technology.

What is OLED?

An OLED is a type of light-emitting diode which emits its own light when exposed to electrical current. This is due to organic compounds that react with the electrical current, and when used in a display, works without a backlight. The production of OLED screens is expensive, so this type of technology has been used in small applications such as cell phones and PDAs.

Samsung OLED TV Models

Samsung made headlines in 2005 when they announced the world’s largest OLED TV model, which measured 21 inches and boasted 6.22 million pixels. October of 2008 marked a new announcement of the world’s largest OLED TV model at 40 inches and a resolution of 1920 x 1080. This was one of the first OLED HDTV models. They’ve created news again by offering up a 55-inch OLED television measuring just 0.6 inches in width and offering a clarity and richness that is simply stunning.

The 55-Inch Samsung OLED TV

This television is a dream for those who love video games and movies. It’s 3-D capable, and offers both voice control and motion control and face recognition with the company’s Smart Interaction Technology. The integrated camera is just one of the amazing features this television will boast, although it’s unknown what the price range for this or any future Samsung OLED TV models will be.

When Customers Can Buy It

There is no official release date for the 55-inch Samsung OLED TV, but the company has mentioned the second half of 2012 as an estimated time of launch. LG has developed their own OLEG HDTV that is supposed to launch around the same time, measuring in at just 0.3 inches in width. With the interest in the industry being shifted to quad resolution technology and OLED technology, it won’t be long before these television models are available from several different companies, but the price is sure to be steep.

How it Will Look

There is no current comparison for the richness and beauty offered by the Samsung OLED TV models or any other OLED TV models, but the clarity and picture quality is top-notch. It will have 3-D capability and offers up a brighter, more vivid picture than any other model available, including LCD televisions. Because the OLED televisions don’t require a backlight, they use less energy and can be thinner than LCD televisions.

While the price is sure to be on the high side, Samsung OLED TV models are something to watch for, especially for individuals who won’t settle for anything less than the best when it comes to television viewing.

What is 4K Resolution?

Individuals with fairly new televisions probably have a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which offers up an image of about 2 million pixels. This makes a beautiful image that is perfect for those watching television or movies. However, a new breed of technology is offering up the 4K Quad resolution high definition television. It offers up a resolution of about 3480 x 2160, which translates to an image of about 8 million pixels.

Clarity and Viewing Distance

The picture clarity the 4K Panel TV will offer is simply unprecedented. With most high-definition televisions, there is a viewing distance that is optimal for the perfect clarity and picture quality. With the 4K Panel TV, the viewing distance can be less than with the typical 1920 x 1080 televisions. While this won’t make a difference for the average movie watcher, it will be a big boon to the gamer community.

Credit: LG

Gamers tend to like being closer to the screen in their gaming chairs. This type of resolution will also be great for those people with smaller amounts of space in the living rooms or dens, and provides more versatility for consumers.

Issues with Quad Resolution

The one obstacle 4K or quad resolution technology has is the content available. However, the content is sure to be produced as demand for it grows, and until then, the largest benefit of quad resolution is the 3-D aspect. These televisions will be able to deliver the 3-D effect without the 3-D glasses. This increases viewer comfort and convenience as well as providing ultimate picture quality and clarity. Companies like Sony have planned 4K content for the near future, including movies like Spiderman and a new Blu-Ray player with 4K capabilities. Those in the industry seem to think the 4K Panel TV will be the last high-resolution technology consumers will need.

Companies Offering the 4K Panel TV

AT the CES 2012 all of the big players stepped into the arena, we saw 4K panels from Sharp, LG, Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, and Toshiba. Sharp made their intentions known at the CES with a variety of 4K demonstrations. My favorite was the LG 84 inch 4K panel that is shown above. Go big or go home!

The first company to provide a 4K panel television is Toshiba, with their 55ZL2, offering glasses-less 3-D capability. LG also plans to release a 4K model in 2012, but other companies have not stepped up to the plate or made their 4K plans public as of now. Sony does plan to release a 4K home theater projector in 2012. Without a doubt, the moment those are released, other companies will be releasing or perfecting their plans for 4K panel TVs as well.

While the change to 4K TV won’t be as noticeable as the change from standard to high-definition televisions, it’s something to keep an eye on, especially for technology buffs. As more 4K content becomes available, this technology is sure to become the “norm” in homes across the world.

With 3D technology entering mainstream TV sets, the Vizio’s E3D420VX TV sets the bar higher by providing its viewers effective passive viewing 3D technology, Wi-Fi connectivity services, High Definition program streaming and much more – at a price that’s more than reasonable. Moreover, the Internet-ready television set comes with 3 HDMI ports for better syncing and entertainment from multiple sources.

Product Description:

Weighing a little above 31 pounds and with dimensions of around 3 x 40 x 29 inches, the Vizio’s E3D420VX TV has a viewing screen of 42 inches and a resolution of 1080 pixels. The television display is backed up with CCFL – LCD High Definition television with 3D video capabilities. Moreover, the 3D theatre effects are tested and approved by the FTC, Federal Trade Commission.

The Internet connectivity is largely Ethernet based and consists of myriad applications like the Pandora Internet Radio, CinemaNow, NetFlix and more. The streaming is done at 120 Hz and thus, provides smoothly flowing graphics at sharp contrasts.

Fantastic 3D and 2D content

Vizio’s E3D420VX TV comes with an inbuilt polarized 3D theatre dynamic setting designed to guarantee you the same explicit 3D viewing experience in local theatres with lightweight and operational glasses. The passive viewing option is also available in the standard settings with a negligible 3D distortion.

The 2D HD streaming is laudable as well, with contrast ratios of 200,000 to 1. Coupled with a resolution of 1080 pixels, the images and graphics obtained are super-crisp and brilliant in chromatic effects.

Inherent light sensitivity technology

The Vizio’s E3D420VX TV has inbuilt photon sensors to gauge the ambient light of the surroundings and adjust the display brilliance and sharpness accordingly. This process is automatic and thus saves you the manual labor. Thanks to this feature, the graphic intensity and clarity levels are maintained at all times.

SRS True Volume – a unique feature

Through the novel SRS True Volume technology, the E3D420VX TV keeps volume levels automatically adjusted (pitched high or low when needed) so that you are exposed to a defined audio level. This feature is extensively useful when loud and blaring commercials make their way into your otherwise quieter program broadcasts.

Intrinsic Internet Ready Television

Vizio has made sure that the E3D420VX TV remains on par with similarly modeled Internet TVs with a host of Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections and allied applications. Thus, you can access the Internet without needing a computer. This facility allows you to watch HD streamed movies from NetFlix, CinemaNow; share graphics and videos through FaceBook, Google +1 and other social sites. Music can be accessed on Pandora, Internet World Radio and others.

Shortcomings of the E3D420VX TV

Customers have reported that there is a certain time lag that crops up while gaming. Upon further probing it is found out that this lag is reported only on the Standard settings and becomes negligible on the Gaming Mode.

Secondly, this television set takes longer time to boot up and get started when compared to other televisions. Makers blame it on the number of applications and streaming services available, nevertheless, this is an area that could be improvised.

Quick Take

With a price on par with most of the standard televisions, the Vizio’s E3D420VX TV is definitely a device worth contemplating upon, especially for its effective 3D technology and Wi-Fi amongst other features.

The Toshiba 55UX600U 55 Inch HDTV is empowered with LED backlighting and a 1080 pixel High Definition resolution resulting in crisper and chromatic images. Moreover, it has a 3M:1 contrast ratio enhanced by the CrystalCoat Technology and the AutoView photon sensor device. Distortion levels are negligible with the ClearFrame display which, at 120 Hz doubles video frame lag time from 60 Hz to 120 Hz.

The television has an inbuilt Wi-Fi connectivity facility with a number of home theatre entertainment options. There are dual mode settings where you can access the gaming console, surf the Internet, watch live streamed movies without downloading them directly and connect the set to other devices through active HDMI ports.

Important features of the Toshiba 55UX600U 55 Inch HDTV:

1. Clearer and Crisper Imaging

The Toshiba 55UX600U 55 Inch HDTV has a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution that guarantees crisper images with an even color tone. Besides, the Resolution + Super-Resolution coupling grants you sharper images. The ClearFrame Technology completely eliminates video distortion with processing speeds of 120 Hz.

2. Photon Sensor Technology

A unique feature of the 55UX600U HDTV lies in the fact that maximum efforts are taken to maintain the brightness and the brilliance of the display screen, in the worst possible viewing conditions. However, if you are a dark room viewer, this is NOT the TV for you to splurge on!

The CrystalCoat technology with the AutoView Technology and the Dyna Backlight Control ensures that the television display is optimized in accordance to the ambient room-light.

3. Availability of different modes

There are different modes in the 55UX600U HDTV making up for gaming, movie viewing, home theatre and others. The gaming mode ensures that no gaming lags take place while you play on the console. The movie mode adapts the 120 Hz viewing rate to the typical 24-cycles per second film movement of cinema.

There are three theatre modes designed to give you a splendid film-watching experience akin to your favorite cinema hall. The screen expands horizontally and vertically during each of the theatrical modes.

4. Wi-Fi connectivity

Another handy feature in the 55UX600U HDTV is the Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity. The inbuilt Internet connection in the television makes for easy viewing of streamed videos, browsing through your favorite sites without the computer and listening to music on the World Radio. There are applications that are available for use – like the NetFlix, Pandora and so on.

5. Other features

The Toshiba 55UX600U 55 Inch HDTV can also act as a photo frame. The Channel Browser features lets you browse through 32 channels simultaneously, while the Channel Lister lets you list out your favorite shows. This device is listed as an energy saving product and is qualified by reputed Government Organisations. Thus, it is an Energy Star product – designed to reduce your electricity bill.

The Cons of the Toshiba 55UX600U 55 Inch HDTV:

While not many shortcomings have been reported, certain defects that seem to irk customers are –

1. The non-uniform backlit screen display.

2. Very thick frame when compared to other LED models in the market.

3. Audio systems need upgrading.

Overall Review:

The Toshiba 55UX600U 55 Inch HDTV comes at a reasonable price with a lot of technical features and enables for comfortable 2D viewing – it thus, is definitely here to stay!

Gigantic in appearance and having a first-rate Quattron Technology – induced chromatic imaging and contrasting ability, the Sharp AQUOS LC-70LE735U 70″ 3D TV is one among the new and improved LCD and 3D LED Technology TVs by Sharp. Yes, it is a tad pricey however, considering its utility features and Wi-Fi connectivity package, it seems worth the cost!

Product Features:

With dimensions of approximately 63-1/2″ X 39-45/64″ X 13-1/8″, the Sharp AQUOS LC-70LE735U 70″ 3D TV has a 70 inch display screen that is nearly 62% larger when compared to normal 55″ screens. The television model comes with a 1920 x 1080 black brick resolution clarity at an aspect ratio of 16:9. It features a 3D-LED backlit HD TV and an inbuilt Wi-Fi connectivity to add to the characteristics.

Excellent High Definition Image Quality

The backlit LED panel of the Sharp AQUOS LC-70LE735U 70″ 3D TV has dark black bricks that are cast on-screen to provide accurate shadowing effects that bring out vibrant colored graphics without appearing very intense and bright. The 240-Hz feature smoothens imaging and reduces blurring and distortion for better 2D viewing. Standard Definition at 120-Hz is equally brilliant.

Quattron Technology for better chromatography

With most of the present-day televisions making use of the 3-color technology, the Sharp AQUOS LC-70LE735U 70″ 3D TV makes use of the Quattron Technology, also known as the Quad Pixel technology to provide enhanced viewing. A yellow color palette is added to the basic red, blue and green chrome mixtures for better color reproduction. This technology has been tested and approved by the Konica Minolta CS-200 luminance and color meter for having produced accurate reds and greens on screen with slightly hued shades of blue.

3D enabled 70 inch screen

No other television in the market today has 3D viewing capacities on a 70 inch screen. (65 inches are the record maxima today). With the Sharp AQUOS LC-70LE735U 70″ 3D TV, you can enjoy a fabulous 3D experience with outstanding depth of clarity and very few cross-talk instances. However, this model does not come with 3D viewing glasses and you will have to purchase the merchandise at approximately $150 a pair, before you tune in to 3D watching.

Saves a lot of power

At such a monstrous size and with so many applications to speak about, naysayers would have been quick to point out that this television model would be a master power-consumer. However, reports point out that the Sharp AQUOS LC-70LE735U 70″ 3D TV consumes hardly 165 watts of power when run in the standard mode, which is equivalent to the smaller 65 inch television and much lesser than the 58 inch Samsung model. Thus, this television is a huge power-saver as well.

The Cons:

Though the Sharp AQUOS LC-70LE735U 70″ 3D TV has been crafted and designed to perfection, there are areas where the model could have improved.

1. Passive 3D viewing could have been convenient for the huge screen size.

2. The model is very expensive.

3. The Internet based application list is not exhaustive.

4. You have to purchase 3D glasses – they do not come complimentary with the TV set.

However, for all those who do not mind splurging a bit more on an inbuilt 3D LED television that is Wi-Fi enabled with crisp image quality, the Sharp AQUOS LC-70LE735U 70″ 3D TV is one of the drool-worthy products you might want to look at!

LED television is proof that there is still room for improvement, even in great things.

For those unaware, LED stands for light emitting diode. LED TV is technically a variation of LCD television but there are notable improvements in LED TVs that make them a class of their own. The weaknesses in LCD TV have been corrected in LED TV. This explains marked difference in their prices.

Generally, LED TVs exhibit better picture quality than LCD TVs. You also get to conserve on electricity bills with LED TVs because they use less energy. A LED TV is definitely one of the biggest investments for the entertainment area. It’s not something you should buy when you’re in an impulse shopping mode, though.

LED TV is competing with Plasma TV in terms of picture quality, particularly with the contrast levels. Contrast or measure of the ratio of black and white is very important in television. The LED backlighting of the LED TV has surpassed the contrast level quality of LCD TV, and is up to par with Plasma TV. See, the liquid crystals in LCD displays twist and untwist, hindering the superior performance of contrast levels. This problem is given a solution in LED TVs, with its local dimming that pronounce the deep black levels.

LED TV also delivers when it comes to color accuracy. LED TVs have better color saturation and accuracy than LCD TVs. Sometimes, experts say that LED TVs are better than Plasma TVs in rendering colors. LED TV is able to give off excellent color accuracy because of its mode of lighting. LCD TVs use fluorescent lighting and as a result, it cannot render realistic and vivid colors. LED TV lighting has been calibrated for an almost flawless pixel-perfect resolution. Vibrant colors come out best in LED TV displays.

There are different sizes of LED TVs but generally, LED TVs are lighter and thinner than LCD TVs. Again, this is because of the lighting. LED TV lighting doesn’t require as much space as fluorescent. It’s easy to make larger LED TVs then LCD because of its lightness.

Finally, a very attractive feature of the LED TV is its energy-saving ability. It could be one of the most expensive television sets but the investment pays off because it saves on the electricity bills. Again, the lighting technology gets the credit for this feature. LEDs are also known to be more efficient in producing light than the fluorescent.

Now that the makers of these TV’s have combined the computer with the TV. LED TVs are all that and more.

Motion interploation is not the same as “motion blur”, although many people use the terms to mean the same thing. The speed at which a LCD and LED TVs can display pictures is determined by the refresh rate. When you have media that is diplaying a faster action than the refresh rate of the TV you will sometimes get a blurred image. This is called motion blur and most manufacturers have solved this problem by making TV’s with higher refresh rates. So, what is motion interpolation technology?

Motion interpolation is the technical term for the technology that takes the keeps your movie from jumping while you are watching it. Films and video are recorded at a certain frame-rate and your HDTV has a fixed frame-rate that it can display the movie. If you are watching a video that has a lower frame-rate than the HDTV then you will get a jumpiness (technically called a judder) or blur in the pictured until the video has time to catch up.

Motion interpolation technology fixes this problem by putting in frames as placeholders until lower frame-rate video source catches up to the display. The reason this is important to you as the consumer is because not all television have this technology yet. So to ensure you get the best viewing experience from your television, you should look for this technology when purchasing your new TV. Of course this technology has different brand names for each of the TV manufacturers. Toshiba calls it “ClearScan” but most of the other manufacturers will have the word “motion” in their descriptions. If your not sure that your television has this feature, ask the salesman before you buy it.

Here are a few of the brand names given to motion interpolation technology and the refresh rates offered by the manufactor:

Samsung – Auto Motion Plus 120 Hz, 240 Hz

Sharp – Fine Motion Enhanced, AquoMotion 240Hz

Sony – MotionFlow 100 Hz, , 120 Hz, 200 Hz, 240 Hz, 400 Hz.

Toshiba – ClearScan 120 Hz, 240 Hz

LG – TruMotion 120 Hz, 240 Hz, 480 Hz

Vizio – MEMC (Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation)

Faster is not always better. You should go to the store and acutally view the television that you are going to buy. Some people may not prefer the pictures that you see when looking at a TV with a high refresh rate.
