Haute Cabrière Cellar Restaurant opens for Franschhoek Uncorked

After an extensive refurbishment, including the addition of more tables outside, featuring breathtaking valley views, Haute Cabrière Cellar Restaurant will be ready to welcome the season’s first clients on 1 September 2011. Guests can expect a crisp new look, including new furnishings and tableware, a terrace for alfresco lunches and a new chef to kick off the season - talented chef Ryan Shell will continue the tradition of innovative and outstanding country cuisine at the longstanding and much loved eatery.

A highlight on the local calendar is the annual Franschhoek Uncorked Festival (3 and 4 September 2011) and true to form the restaurant will have a special menu, designed to showcase the best produce available in the valley – with a wine recommendation to go with each course. To book a table for the festival, click here

For the festival, visitors to Franschhoek will be able to enjoy a host of activities at the various wine farms. At Haute Cabriere, great prizes can be won at our classic Ratafia ball throwing competition, and visitors can lounge with a lazy glass of Pierre Jourdan and play some boules on the lawn. Haute Cabriere Restaurant to Re-open in September

Contrary to the news published by the Saturday edition of the Weekend Argus, Haute Cabriere Restaurant has NOT closed down at all. The opposite is true: We are revamping the interiors, and will be re-opening in September with a new Chef and under our own management. Despite a chilled economic climate, we believe in the marriage of food and wine, and we are therefore investing into our facilities to create an even better experience for our patrons.

Pierre Jourdan’s refined blends of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir offer a fragrant and elegant bouquet with a lively mousse, fresh fruit flavours with a dry finish. With Easter in mind, the Pierre Jourdan Belle Rose and Haute Cabrière Pinot Noir both pair magnificently with Easter Lamb, Duck, and Turkey dishes. Both wines are produced from 100% Pinot Noir, which has a very elegant yet powerful cultivar expression - showing juicy red berry fruit flavours and well structured, elegant complexity that will complement the flavours of Easter.

The essence of Achim von Arnim’s winegrowing philosophy is embodied in the words “sun – soil – vine – man” – the sun being the positive energy and the joy, the soil being our roots and tradition, the vine representing nature and harmony, and man being the facilitator on the one hand, but also, the one receiving the ultimate enjoyment from the fruits of this labour. Haute Cabrière became the first estate in South Africa to specialise in the production of Methode Cap Classique, the South African equivalent to Champagne, using only the noble cultivars of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
