The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative is expected to shine this CES with an unveiling on a $100 tablet designed to meet the requirements of school going children which keeping it low on the budget. We have some insight into the features and initial impact of the product.

The tablet is designed for developing countries as a super affordable tablet that matches the features of the current mainstream offerings. The product is dubbed as XO 3.0 and comes with an 8-inch display featuring 1024×768 screen resolution with PixelQi 3qi screen. The rugged tablet also bundles a Marvell Armada PXA618 chip with up to 512MB RAM and runs Google Android or Linux Sugar OS.

These features essentially places it at lower specifications than the current market mainstream; though the idea is to make it affordable while keeping minimum usability. Though don’t mistake it as a replacement for the likes of iPad or Galaxy S. The price of the tablet is also increased from earlier predicted $75 in order to provide essential features. An interesting feature of XO 3.0 is that it’ll get powered by human motion; 10 minutes of battery life for every minute of hand cranking making it very useful is domestic areas of developing countries. We look forward to the launch in a few days.

Some iPad users have enabled to show the battery percentage meter that is shown on the top right of the display. However it only shows when you are passed the lock screen. Just follow this simple tweak in order to show the battery percentage meter on the lock screen, something very useful while the device is charging.

However this requires you to turn off the “Battery Percentage ” from Setting -> General -> Usage option in your iPad. This has been tested on iPad 2 running iOS 5, however compatibility with iPad 1 is not confirmed yet.

Once the battery percentage switch is off, plug in your device. Now press and hold the home button and your iPad’s display with change from this lock screen:

To this lock screen:

…which shows the battery percentage of your iPad. Hence, it’s a quick information to know the current charge state and and to estimate a time before the iPad gets fully charged. Though the screen on the iPad might go black just after the battery percentage is shown. In that case, you just need to press the home button again and you’ll again see the lock screen with battery percentage.

Once you unlock the screen, the percentage option will disappear and your iPad will show default screen. You can always enable the meter from the Settings page and this modification will not effect anything else on your device.

I must say that Apple fans have been expecting a mind boggling iPhone 5 since the release of even the current iPhone 4S. It is supposed to be a major update in terms of design and features. The iPad 3 is also expected by the end of first quarter of year 2012 becoming major releases from Apple after the death of the late Steve Jobs.

When iPhone 4S was released last year, it received a mixed response from users worldwide in satisfaction and meeting requirements. There was a long debate on whether or not it is worth switching to the new iPhone, especially after it followed the same design, though faster performance. Though the expectations for an iPhone 5 has been developing for sometime now and we believe that Apple is getting ready to startle it’s fan base once again.

These days the rumors for the specification for the upcoming iPhone 5 and iPad 3 have started; some features such as LTE support. Another new expected product is Apple iTV High Definition TVs which, according to rumors, is already under production at Sharp Factories in Japan. Hence Apple is expanding it’s electronics businesses by moving into new arenas, especially in the wake of shifting technologies in TV industry.

In all, we can assume that Apple is going to have an interesting 2012. Keep subscribed to catch more information as soon as they arrive.

After a long wait, the untethered jailbreak for Apple iOS 5.0.1 is finally here supporting iPhone 4 and 3GS and iPod Touch 3G/4G. However the same is not yet supported for iPhone 4S. If you rely on software unlock, you’ll need to preserve baseband through custom firmware option in Redsn0w as shown in this guide.

Furthermore, it is even simpler for users of tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 users. You need to jailbreak the device again, rather install a simple update through Cydia and go along with the untethered jailbreak. Simply open Cydia and search for ‘Corona’ and install the package. Once installed, your device will boot untethered.

Procedure:

Download iOS 5.0.1 for your device. The links are given at the end of this post.

Download Redsn0w 0.9.10b3 for Windows or Mac.

Now start the Redsn0w. If you need to preserve your baseband (for unlocking), go to extras and select the ‘Custom IPSW’ option. Now give the path to the download iOS 5.0.1 IPSW file and let redsn0w cook a custom firmware for you. Skip this step if your device is factory unlocked or you’re using an official carrier.

In today’s world keeping your personal data private has become an issue as anyone can access your PC when you’re connected to the internet. We all know keeping your files in encrypted form is the best solution as no one, not even a super computer can break through them. Up till now there were a lot of encryption software available but they all had one problem; they were crappy and slow.

gKrypt innovates the file protection by introducing the fastest file encryption software that uses your graphics card to encrypt or decrypt any file. Suppose you have a 1GB of movie from some family trip and you really want to keep it private: with existing file protection software it may take minutes to encrypt that movie file but gKrypt claims to encrypt that in few seconds. In the video demo below, they claim to encrypt with a speed of 100 MB of data per second provided you have a relatively strong graphics card on your system (which is very common these days).

In addition to being the fastest encryption software, gKrypt is also very simple to use. All you have to do to protect your files is to drag and drop them into the UI of the software. You need to set up a pass code first time the software starts (can change it whenever you want) and the same pass code will be required by whomsoever wants to decode the files. gKrypt works best if you have an AMD or Nvidia GPU in your system. It can also encrypt on a non-GPU system but it won’t be as fast as with the system having a graphics card in it.

The software is priced at $29 but you can download a free trail for 30 days from gKrypt website.

The new Call of Duty franchise caught everyone with surprise by crossing the 1Billion USD scale in a little over 2 weeks after launch. This makes the COD3 the fastest selling game on the planet crossing even the Avatar movie is earning the most in the entertainment industry.

Most amazing, the COD3 game nabbed more than $775 million or three quarters of a billion dollars in the first week of release. This benchmark is evident of the large increase in the user base for games, especially the first person shoot outs. The COD franchise has seen great success with each new version breaking the records for the last one.

It is difficult to believe that the developers of COD3 are getting cash low due to development and release costs that forces them to release a new version every year. This had a negative impact on the quality of the gameplay and less researched or original material for the masses. The huge gamer base certainly expects more.

It is believed that the same strategy will carry on for the future and the parent company, Activision, will continue to milk their success series. However speculations suggesting that such quick releases might cease the innovation and the series will eventually loose it’s value. This has happened more than once in the past and only time can tell the true story for the COD franchise.

I hope to see much better gameplay in the upcoming versions, even if it takes a little longer to get hands on the new version. Do you want a quick new version or rather hold your horses for a better quality? Show your reviews in the comments.

Apple earlier released the iOS 5.0.1 to patch the few small issues with the original iOS 5 release, particularly the battery drain problem. The Sn0wbreeze software is now updated to version 2.8b10 that supports the tethered jailbreak of iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touches. Follow the guide below to jailbreak your device.

Before moving forward, please note that the current jailbreak is tethered, which means that you’ll have to connect your device to a PC on each device restart. If your device is untethered jailbroken on a previous device, we recommend you to wait for a untethered jailbreak for the new firmware before updating to iOS 5.x.

This time, the sn0wbreeze software adds support for iPad baseband for iPhone 3GS users, removal of UDID requirement that let’s you to load beta software without needing an Apple Developer account and patch the sandbox crashing issue with iBooks. However as noted earlier, this jailbreak is currently tethered only.

Steps to Jailbreak and Unlock:

Download iOS 5.0.1 Beta 2 for your device from Apple. [ Download Link ]

Download Sn0wbreeze 2.8b10 for Windows [ Download Link ]

Run the sn0wbreeze client and cook a custom firmware for your device. Remember to select iPad Baseband option if you need to update or currently run iPad baseband 06.15.00

Once the custom firmware is made, put your device to DFU mode and run iTunes. Now click on Restore button while pressing the ‘shift’ key and browse to the recently created custom .ipsw file.

iTunes will now update to iOS 5.0.1. If it fails, try putting the device in DFU mode through iREB.

Once the iOS 5.0.1 is installed, run iBooty to run into jailbroken state on your device.

If you need to unlock your device, go through this article to unlock your device using ultrasn0w.

In case your device fails to update or jailbreak, feel free to comment your queries.

The companies believe that’s it’s not he appropriate time to launch a rival device when all of the industry is mourning over Steve’s death.

Sources from Google and Samsung also insisted that there is no delay with the product itself. The decision was made last night by the top management of both companies, sole reason being job’s death. The official statement goes: “We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs’s passing,”
