Email marketing leads, otherwise known as ‘email leads you can market to’, is the lifeblood of all internet businesses.

Although this article doesn’t extend to a full blueprint, I’m going to share with you now a top ten list of how to start generating your own subscribers (assuming you have your own website or can build a web page) that will produce email marketing leads you can start promoting to, not just short term but for total duration that you’re website/page has an online presence.

Before we get started, these techniques are all ‘whitehat’ strategies (ethical business practices), not ‘blackhat’ (spamming or getting on the wrong side of your internet service provider, autoresponder company, or even Google for that matter).

The following tips on generating email marketing leads will serve you well if you are contemplating an email marketing campaign; starting a new online business or just need to know how to set the whole process up.

1. First of all you need an autoresponder, a marketing software tool that enables you to upload a sequence of specific messages to, an begin communicating with your subscribers on autopilot. These messages are delivered to your subscribers at varying intervals, set by you, normally 3,4,5,6,7 etc, days apart.

There are quite a few good autoresponder companies around, but you want to choose one that has been around for a while, has good deliverability statistics, ease of use, good customer service and has many help features; online help chat system along with helpful video tutorials for every aspect of your email marketing leads. (see my recommendation at the bottom of this article)

2. Once you log in to your autoresponder company’s website, you’ll want to start setting up your first campaign (how to do this is quite straight forward and with help tutorials at hand, will be easier than you think), enter all the required details: name of your campaign, list name, your company information, default and global settings, your opt-in web form etc. Your email messages will be the last thing to upload.

3. You now want to obtain the special code that is automatically produced by the autoresponder company and upload this to your website or specific web page, landing or squeeze page where it’s to be seen by prospective subscribers, normally the home page, or subscribe.html page where your visitors can subscribe from.

4. I’m assuming at this stage that you’ve already researched your specific niche thoroughly and you know what sort of content or email messages you’re going to be loading into you sequential autoresponder. If you haven’t, let’s use my example and see why I would want to use an autoresponder in the first place:

Let’s say I have a website pertaining to (this could be anything you desire) weight loss, and I was selling an ebook and audio course that could help people lose 5 pounds every week for as long as they wanted.

I’ve carried out my research using Google, Yahoo, MSN, Amazon, Ebay, Weight Loss Forums and the like and I have specific keywords chosen around the ‘weight loss’ theme. I have my squeeze page ready and I just want to write a killer headline that will entice viewers to claim my free report.

I give away a free report I’ve made using Private Label Content in exchange for entering their name and email address into my opt-in form, so I can follow up with my subscribers using my autoresponder, and named it:

“Lose 5 Pounds Every Week Using Any One of These 15 x 5-Minute Workouts.”

What do I do now?…

5. Upload the opt-in form from my autoresponder company to my squeeze page or home page. Upload the free report after converting it to PDF. I’ve also entered some good benefit-packed bullet points which helps give the reader good reason to obtain the free report.

6. Uploaded my autoresponder with 7-10 content-rich messages, more if you can, so I can start building a trusting relationship with my subscribers. You see, they won’t know you yet and will be very skeptical with what they receive from you. When you send valuable content; weight-loss tips, articles, free goodies related to weight loss etc, your readers will start to acknowledge that you come across as an expert in your field. They will start looking out for your emails at which stage, trust has been developed.

7. Each message I upload to my autoresponder, I place a signature file at the bottom of each email, maybe even a link at the top and middle section of my email, which links back to the actual product I am selling.

A signature file at the end of any email will look something like this example:

Your Name

www.YourDomainName.com/affiliate-link-here.html

8. If you intend using an opt-in form on the home or landing page of a website, don’t do what 99% of businesses do:

“Subscribe To Our Newsletter” – How boring! Keep the opt-in form where it can be seen – above the fold. This is at the appropriate page of your website where a visitor wouldn’t have to scroll down to see it. When a visitor comes to your site, you virtually have 2 seconds to grab their attention – If the headline of your websites’ home page doesn’t say what your visitor wants to hear, they’ll leave to see what your competition has to offer instead and you’ve lost that visitor for good.

Give them a compelling reason to stay, at least to read what you have to offer, or to sign up for your newsletter or free report.

Having a bland opt-in form is just another way of saying “Sign Up For My Newsletter If You Want” – Instead, be creative. What’s the reason you want someone to come to your website for in the first place? To get a sale so you can make a profit… right?

So, let’s say you specialize in mortgages, instead of having a basic opt-in ‘Get Our Newsletter’ form, jazz it up a little. Enclose it within a border and give it a ‘Reason to Subscribe’ headline, something like:

“Tired Hunting Around For A New Mortgage? Get 25 Top Tips That Are Guaranteed To Save You Money On Your Next Biggest Investment.”

Wow… what a transformation, and that basically took me a few seconds. Get the idea?

9. Ok, your autoresponder opt-in form is uploaded to your site. You’ve given it a good headline to entice visitors to leave their name and email address in exchange for additional information; free report, free book chapter, free tips or whatever the case may be. You’ve added a few beneficial bullet points that helps the reader browse quickly through the benefits of why your free report can help them lose weight. Your free report is uploaded and you’re ready to go. Now what?

10. After driving traffic to your web page you see a few sales and get excited. Your email messages you loaded into your autoresponder, though, have exhausted and you don’t know how to keep in touch with those subscribers that you’ve taken time out to acquire. Simple! Load up your autoresponder with more content rich emails.

(One word of warning – There’s nothing worse than receiving endless emails promoting a product that one of your readers has already purchased. This can lead to your hard-earned subscriber unsubscribing and never to be heard of again. This would be a pure shame and the way to get around this would be to transfer the subscriber over to a separate ‘buyer’ email list. This can be done automatically when using the autoresponder I highly recommend.)

Send out a weekly broadcast offering related products from other reputable companies and earn a commission.

Build a blog and send out a broadcast to your subscribers asking them to post comments on your input and start interacting with them.

Load your blog with content-rich articles from ezine directories or private label articles that you can purchase quite cheaply, modify, and claim authorship to then send a broadcast to your email list referring them to your blog to view the new content.

Adding good content to your blog at least once a week and then sending out a broadcast to your subscriber list to go and view it and post comments, is a sure-fire way to stay in touch and maintaining the longevity of your list who have become accustomed to receiving valuable information from you in the first place.

Building your email list to large numbers; 10,000 – 20,000 – 50,000 and looking after them with quality regular content; back-end sales, even cross-selling, can bring an annual profit potential of several thousand, even hundreds of thousands in additional revenue.

A highly lucrative investment from such a small outlay by simply implementing a sequential autoresponder into your business.

How To Write Effective Sales Copy

If you’ve ever tried writing a sales letter and got stuck, or worried about your response rates, your methods, or even never written a sales letter before, I’m going to give you a quick and easy top to bottom formula to follow, and add on some rules to finish off.

You don’t have to be the best writer in the world, have the greatest imagination in the world, or even have a masters degree. If you can write and read English, you can write effective and profitable sales letters, so let’s get started

Part One – The ‘Attention-Grabbing’ Headline

First up comes the headline. The ‘oh-so-well-known’ and the most apparent block of larger-than-life bold text at the head of the sales letter.

So what’s the intention of the headline? Well, the answer to that is twofold. Its first job is to capture the attention of the visitor. To snap them out of whatever they’re doing, and divert all their attention to your copy. The second, and most important, is to persuade the reader to read on. It’s a short, sharp taste of what you’re offering designed to make the visitor drop everything, snap out of their daily grind like trance, and listen to you.

When writing your headlines, it’s important to spend a little time playing with some words. What you have to remember is that to catch this attention in the first place, your headline needs to be short, and to the point. It’s not a summary of your product, and it’s not just there to grab attention which is completely unrelated to your product.

As with your product itself you can categorize a positive headline in the same way. Solve a problem, avoid pain, or gain something that the reader wants. Your headline has to show this right away.

The ‘how-to’ headlines and ‘discover’ headlines are popular because they work:

“How To Lose 10 Ten Pounds In 10 Days Without Sacrificing What You Enjoy!”

“Discover The Fastest Way To Write ‘Profit-Pulling’ Headlines With This One Secret!”

It really is a simple case of expressing the solutions your product offers, directly or indirectly.

Let’s say we’re taking a marketing perspective. Here are a couple of direct headlines to start out:

“Discover How To Make Ten Dollars For Every Dollar You Spend Online!”

“How To Add 50 Subscribers A Day To Your Opt-in List Without Spending A Single Penny!”

It’s as easy as that. Whenever you’re writing a headline, just remember the main aim of your product, the main problem it poses a solution to, or the main advantage it gives the customer, and tell them.

If you don’t like the how to approach, you can always go indirect, and use the ‘How I’ approach:

“Discover How I Increased My Sales Tenfold In Just Three Months With This One Simple Technique!”

“Watch Over My Shoulder As I Create A Sales System That Earns Me Ten Times My Investment Every Month, Without Fail!”

There’s nothing wrong with this approach at all. Personally, I prefer method one, telling someone directly what they can gain, but this kind of story telling method works too.

Having returned from a 2 week holiday in Turkey with my family just yesterday, and while writing this post, I realize how lucky we really are for the small things in life that we often take for granted.

The staff at our Hotel working 7 days a week for a mere equivalent of a paltry £50 – £60.00 per week.

They served us all day, every day… for 14 days… with a smile on each of their faces happier than a child on Christmas day.

They think nothing of working 17-18 hrs a day keeping their holidaymakers happy; mopping up pewk from carefree and barely 18-yr old youngsters, unblocking toilets, taking criticisms from winging Brits that there’s no Heinz beans at breakfast time, while still having time to learn the ignoramuses how to speak their language.

In Britain, most of us are truly blessed with the things we possess, yet when our comfort zone gets interrupted, we moan like mad; when the sun doesn’t shine we moan; when we have to work more than 8 hrs we moan; when our computer crashes we moan; when someone in the family eats the last of the Cornflakes we moan; when we’re asked to learn something new we moan, yet when we want to better our lifestyles by creating an extra income from home we get mocked and laughed at, purely for trying to achieve something different to what everyone else is accustomed to.

Reaping the fruits of your labor in any internet business will only pay dividends once the seeds have been sown – in other words, you acquire the right education; reading and studying what is necessary to succeed while refraining from purchasing every single product launch that hit’s your inbox.

Moaning and giving up yields no more than reinforcing a procrastinating society, and can easily encourage ventures of ill-gotten gains.

I see many trainee Internet Marketers with an undisciplined and negative mindset of trying to make a quick buck rather than building a foundation for their own financial security.

Internet marketing has many elements and to be proficient at every one would take a lifetime. But whatever your own personal definition of Internet marketing is, you should at least think of it this way: Internet Marketing is purely “The Art of Putting Attractive Offers In Front of Highly Receptive Buyers While Over-Delivering On Ones Promises.”

Master even a quarter of this concept and you’ll do well, and let the mockers of society keep mocking, moaning and groaning.

As we head slowly into longer dark, frosty and chilly nights… a spree of overspending on the ‘fantastic-plastic’ for Christmas, and a declining recession (though the housing market depicts otherwise), I’ll think of the humble Turkish men who earn less wages than a UK Giro, yet they keep smiling 24/7… come rain or shine.

Oh… If we could all work like a Turk on our Internet business perhaps ‘Pareto’s principle’ would need redefining.
