Summer hasn't officially started.... yet I want to crown today's design as "Cake of the Summer". I know, I know. It's too early in the season to make such a sweeping declaration. But today's featured cake is SO right now. SO Summer 2012!

Somehow, Rachael Teufel of Intricate Icings Cake Design has brought together all of today's hottest trends into one stunning cake! Without it seeming too trendy. The Pantone color of the year, Tangerine Tango, is paired with a vibrantly bright turquoise blue (color combo = hot). The ever popular chevron pattern zigs and zags around the top tier with dramatic flair. Meanwhile, a geometric square pattern provides detail and structure to the base tier (pattern mixing = hot, hot). And last but not least, two ranunculus sugar flowers add a pop of color with their paper-like blooms (ranunculus = hot, hot, hot!). Join me in swooning over this trend-setting Tangerine and Turquoise Tango Cake...<div class="feedflare">

I'm guest blogging over on Hostess With the Mostess today! I'm sharing a new recipe just in time for your upcoming Memorial Day celebrations. A festive update on an all-American classic... s'mores! What BBQ is complete without some s'more goodness? And since it is a holiday, these little guys are all dressed up and showing off their patriotic pride! They're not just any old s'more bar... they're Star Spangled S'more Bars!<div class="feedflare">

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine... we sing this song all the time in my house! It is one of my daughter's favorites and why not? You can't help but smile and feel good when singing it! As soon as I saw today's featured cake, I felt the same way. Bright, sunshiny happy! With it's rustic buttercream in shades of yellow from dark to light, extra tall tiers, single peony bloom and simplistic beauty... it will have you smiling (and possibly singing) too! Lets bask in the warm glow of this Summer Sunshine Cake, created by Tessa of The Frosted Cake Shop. <a href="http://www.thecakeblog.com/2012/05/summer-sunshine-cake.html ">Read More...</a><div class="feedflare">

Please, put down your coffee and have a seat. I feel like today's post needs to come with a warning label. It would go something like this... CAUTION: Today's cake may take your breath away. Some have experienced intense, gorgeous-induced giddiness when viewing this cake. Swooning and fainting may also occur.

Okay. Now that you're fully prepared, we can proceed. Seriously, today's cake is truly magnificent. It's bold. It's bright. It incorporates both classic beauty and current trend into one design. Vibrant blue poppy flowers inspired by an antique painting dance their way up a side of pale yellow fondant. Blades of grass, shaded from dark to light, curl together creating a soft, ruffle-esk bottom tier. It's all enough to make a girl feel faint! A spectacular Blue Poppy Flowers Cake created by Rachel Skvaril of Fondant Flinger.<div class="feedflare">
