Well, the Christmas season is approaching, and soon you’ll be seeing everything holiday related. Everything from Christmas Crunch to Jones Soda Holiday Sodas. The other day, I found my favorite movie candy on the shelf, dressed up for the season. It’s Junior Mints Peppermint Crunch.

As you can see, the mints now are speckled red. It gives them a little bit of crunch, but really no extra flavor. Don’t get me wrong, these are really tasty, but they don’t taste that much different that the original Junior Mints. It didn’t take me long to finish this box, but, I wish they would have tried a little harder on their Christmas season contribution.

BTW, if you haven’t tried them, Junior Caramels are freakin awesome as well. They go great with movie popcorn. Mmmmmm…

I did have a good Halloween season though. My annual party was a success.

My “Riddler” Costume turned out pretty good. For some reason, some people at work, and at the bar on Halloween got me confused with the Joker. I wasn’t wearing makeup, I didn’t look like a clown. Weren’t the Question Marks a dead giveaway? Oh well, not everyone is a comic book nerd. So, I did end up winning 3rd place in the costume contest at work.

I didn’t do so well in the costume contest at the local bar, Biele Street. I was in the final six, but I didn’t get in the top 3. Of course, it was more of a popularity contest. The people who got the most cheers and screams won the contest. Of course, the chicks in their sexy costumes won. haha… You can check out the Biele street photo’s on their facebook page here and here.

Yes, Tombstone, has branded themselves “The Official Pizza of Halloween”. All they did was put a jack-o-lantern on packaging. They didn’t arrange the pepperonis in the shape of a jack-o-lantern on the pizza or carve the pepperonis as little pumpkins. They just give you a normal run of the mill pizza. C’mon Tombstone! Really? This makes you the “official” pizza of Halloween? How about a pumpkin flavored pizza or some special spider toppings. It’s just a boring pizza.

Anyway, aside from that, Wal-Mart actually did a clever thing with this pizza. Look at the price, it’s $3.33. That means if you buy 2 of these pizzas, it’s $6.66. Yep, 666, the number of the beast. I proclaim this pizza to be Evil!

I know I haven’t updated in awhile. So, today, I dug up a picture of me on Halloween, when I was about 6 or 7 years old. Oh, and here’s another when I was a little older:

When I was young, for some reason, I was a skeleton about 7 Halloweens in a row. In fact, there’s only a few costumes I remember from my youth. I was a clown, a cowboy, Peter Venkman, and a skeleton several times. I think I was a skeleton because it was pretty much a cheap costume to make. Makeup + Hoodie = Easy Skeleton Costume. In fact, we never even paid for the makeup. The art students, at the high school by my house, painted kids for free. In fact, maybe it wasn’t my idea at all to be a skeleton. It was my mom’s idea, because it she saved money. It’s all making sense now!!

Excuse me when I sit in the corner and cry.

Today, I brought you the 1987 trailer for the movie, Monster Squad.

I just re-watched this movie yesterday. You know, it actually holds up. Before yesterday, It was probably about 20 years since I’ve actually seen this movie. Here’s the trailer.

For those who don’t know or don’t remember this movie. It’s the story of several kids who form a monster club. They’re obsessed with monsters. Then one day, the classic movie monsters invade their town. You have Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolfman, the Mummy, & the Creature from Black Lagoon all coming after these kids. Of course, the kids are the only ones that can stop them.

One of the best lines in the movie is when the Wolfman comes after the kids. And I quote: “Kick him in the nards!”

It’s on a special edition dvd, so go out and rent or buy it now!

At Sams Club, I picked up a huge box of 42 fruit snacks. At this time of year, they carry Halloween fruit snacks instead of the normal Lego Snacks.

There’s nothing really exciting about these, except for the fact they have Halloween shapes.

Wow! These things are very good. These are probably some of the best fruit snacks I’ve had since, Sunkist Fun Fruits back in the 80s.

Speaking of Fun Fruits: I remember back when I was about 9 years old. It was the Christmas season (yeah, apparently, I’m going off the Halloween theme), and I was over at a parent’s friends house. I was playing on their Commodore 64, because, even back then I was a computer nerd. Since I was a leet hacker, I copied some of their games using my copy of Fast Hack’em. Their daughter came downstairs with a Christmas present for me. In previous years, they’d get me a little Christmas present, a small toy, like a generic transformer or a hot wheels knockoff. I ripped off the wrapping paper, and saw a box of Strawberry Fun Fruits.

Okay, yes, I like Fun Fruits, but it didn’t really seem like gift material. I mean, why would I get a present that’s openly available in my Mom’s pantry? Why not wrap up a box of toothpaste & toothbrush to go with it? Plus, I was 9 years old, Candy would of made more sense. Oh well, I realized in later years, they weren’t the best gifters. The following year I got a set of pencils. But, after the Fun Fruits incident, I wasn’t expecting much.

Getting back to the Halloween snacks. You can zoom in on all the shapes above. There’s spiders, pumpkins, ghosts, cats, bats, & witch’s hats. Unfortunately, my bag didn’t have any witches hats. The quality control manager at the fruit snack factory needs to be more alert. I want perfect portions per bag.

I was one of the lucky few who pre-ordered the thing from Nitro in early summer ‘99. Therefore I got the 7″ record on orange vinyl. There was only 1000 of these made. In fact, it’s so rare, this thing has sold before on ebay for over $200 bucks. I just found that out now, so maybe, I’ll be putting up on ebay. I could sure use the money. haha..

I know a bunch of you out there don’t really like AFI. Well, I would say I was a big fan when they were a East Bay Hardcore Band. They played fast & loud. Then around their 3rd album, they started to transition themselves into the mixture of punk / emo / techno / horrorcore sound they are now. I wouldn’t say I dislike the change, but listen to “Answer that and stay Fashionable”, then listen to “decemberunderground”. It’s a pretty big change.

This EP wouldn’t be the first time they wrote a song about the spirit of the season. On their 3rd album, “Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes”, they also had a Halloween/Autumnal song called “Third Season”.

Getting back to the “All Hallow’s EP”, there’s 4 solid tracks on here. It has one of the better covers of The Misfit’s “Halloween”. Their Halloween-y type song, “Fall Children”. A song that made it to Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3, “The Boy who destroyed the World” & another great song, “Totalimmortal”. “Totalimmortal” was covered about a year later by The Offspring, and put on the “Me, Myself & Irene” soundtrack.

When you think the Nintendo Wii, you think of Mario, Zelda, Wii Sports. You mainly think of “kiddie” games or family games. This game totally breaks that stereotype. In fact, I would say the F word is said in this game more than all the Grand Theft Auto games put together.

The great thing about this game is it’s basically a 70s style Zombie movie. If you’ve ever seen the movie by Robert Rodriguez, Planet Terror, you’ve basically seen this game. In fact the opening intro to the game, shown above, looks just like the intro to Planet Terror. Except, in Planet Terror, Rose Mcgowan was the pole dancer.

The above video shows you all the intros and all the gameplay. You can see, that it’s not a game for the kiddies. It’s easy to play, you just aim your wii-mote at the screen, and “blast the mutha fuckin’ zombies”. It’s very cheesy, but is a fun game to play. Plus, it’s scary enough to make it a perfect video game for the season.
