Apologetics
Have you ever been asked a question about the Christian Faith and knew that you should have had a "ready defense" but you did not? Do you want to deepen your understanding of what the bible teaches in respect of the major questions and challenges which humanity faces? If so then a course in Apologetics is for you! Apologetics assists you to ready to provide a ready bible-based defense to those who are seeking answers to life's toughest questions (see Colossians4:5-6) . Some of the topics covered are The necessity for Apologetics, Evidence of the existence of God, The reliability and authority of Scripture, Dealing with common objections, Dealing with Cults, and how to address matters such as Evolution, Free-will, Science and faith.

What's happening during August 2009

Evangelism course cancelled

30 July 2009 - we wish to inform you that the 3 week evangelism course planned for the month of August has been cancelled. The pastoral leadership team would like to make the Tuesday evenings free for the members of His People Church Joburg to do evangelism. Please follow with us as we explain what this will be like in our Sunday sermon series called "Open Up!"

The course is designed to unpack the different spheres or domains of society and how Christians are strategically positioned to shape & transform them with Kingdom thinking & principles. The course will cover bridging the pulpit & the marketplace, worship in the workplace, doing business God's way & community transformation. As one writer says, "Change the marketplace, change the world".

Know your Bible
The book we know as the bible is a remarkable book. It is divinely inspired but written by men. This course seeks to impart a love, reverence and passion for the Word of God with a corresponding desire to read, study, apply and teach it with increased accuracy, understanding and conviction. During this course you will learn some of the key principles necessary to guide careful, systematic study of the Bible in order to discover the original, intended meaning of any given portion of Scripture, so that you may more accurately apply the Bible to today’s needs.

Worship Ministry
This 8 week course is specifically for members of the Worship Ministry. The course is spread over the year as follows:

School of the Spirit
Counsellor, teacher, advocate, comforter, armour bearer, creator, the one who is with us, unseen but obviously at work to bring about His will on earth and in our lives. The great Holy Spirit was promised to us by our heavenly Father and poured out at pentecost to empower us to be witnesses to the salvation that we have found in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is the third personality of the divine trinity and His assignment in our lives is to convict us of sin, righteousness and judgement, to remind us the things that Jesus said, and to empower us with supernatural signs through the gifts of the Holy Spirit to confirm the gospel that we preach. This course is designed to increase our knowledge and understanding of the Holy Spirit and to enable us to more closely follow Him and be used by Him.
The course will include:

Who is the Holy Spirit?
The gifts of the Holy Spirit
Living daily with God’s power
Living in communion with the Holy Spirit.

Courtship - THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED FOR SINGLE, COURTING AND THOSE PRAYING ABOUT SOMEONE
This course is designed for people who are hoping to move into a relationship that is leading into marriage & those who are into such a relationship. The course covers friendships, the purpose of courtship & boundaries, getting engaged or concluding lobola process and preparing for marriage. Young Adults will be challenged to kiss dating goodbye & embrace God's best for life-long relationship of fulfillment & joy. (this course is a pre-requisite for Pre-Marriage course)

Foundations of the Faith
The Foundations course is designed to provide the new believer with a grounding in the key tenants of the Gospel message, whilst providing the believer with the means to get started upon his or her Faith Journey. The subject matter covered includes: Jesus as Lord and Saviour, The believer's baptisms (in water and in the Holy Spirit); Spiritual disciplines with a main focus on reading your bible and praying, the nature of the Life believers have in Christ, and the necessity for and practicalities of sharing the Gospel and making disciples.

Courtship - THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED FOR SINGLE, COURTING AND THOSE PRAYING ABOUT SOMEONE
This course is designed for people who are hoping to move into a relationship that is leading into marriage & those who are into such a relationship. The course covers friendships, the purpose of courtship & boundaries, getting engaged or concluding lobola process and preparing for marriage. Young Adults will be challenged to kiss dating goodbye & embrace God's best for life-long relationship of fulfillment & joy. (this course is a pre-requisite for Pre-Marriage course)

Worship Ministry
This 8 week course is specifically for members of the Worship Ministry. The course is spread over the year as follows:

Foundations of the Faith
The Foundations course is designed to provide the new believer with a grounding in the key tenants of the Gospel message, whilst providing the believer with the means to get started upon his or her Faith Journey. Everyone has a destiny in God. Come along and discover how God has designed you for destiny. This empowering module will help you understand how your unique combination of gifts and passion can be used by God to fulfill His purposes in our generation (Acts 13v36).

Single, Satisfied and Soaring
This course is designed to equip single people to comprehend what the biblical definition and purpose of singleness is, to help them maximise their season and exhort them to enjoy the blessing that God has in that season. The course will help single people to avoid unhealthy habits that can conveniently develop during the season of singleness. Marriage is about two individuals (male and female) committing to walk the journey of life together and the smoothness of that road can be greatly impacted by how they each spent their season as singles. Wasted single life can as a result cause strain to the cleaving process in marriage. Therefore, the season of singleness is a treasure to be discovered and enjoyed and not to be forsaken

Connect Leader Training
Our Connect / Small Groups are built on the pattern we see in Acts 2:46. Come to be inspired and equipped to facilitate a Connect Group. Learn about the vital ingredients that result in dynamic and healthy group life – Connecting with God, Each Other, the Word and ‘your’ World.

What is GROW?

GROW is our equipping initiative. GROW is catalytic environments that we have put together to help every believer become more like Christ.

GROW is all about applying the word of God to our lives. Research confirms what we already know; the number one predictor of spiritual growth is reading and obeying the Bible (Brad J Waggoner - The Shape of Faith to Come).

We desire to develop a culture of every believer growing strong in God. In order to do this we have set aside Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm till 8:30pm as our "Grow Sessions".

What is the goal of GROW?

The goal of GROW is to be a catalyst in helping every believer become more like Christ. The apostle Paul said it well he said he labored until "Christ will be formed in you" Galatians 4v19

How is GROW different to Bible School?

We see spiritual growth as the lifelong pursuit of every Christian, the need to grow does not end after one or two years of Bible School.
One of the things that we are very excited about is the opportunity to offer a modular approach to learning God’s word. This will allow you to attend any course at any time. No longer do people need to have a year or two free in order to be equipped in God’s word. You only need to sign up for the modules that you want to attend.
On our Tuesday nights we will be reflecting the particular emphasis that we believe God has called our Church to focus on for a particular season. While at the same time we will be offering modules that have been proven to be essential to spiritual growth irrespective of the season we may find ourselves in.
We will also be bringing in special guest speakers to minister on various topics. Watch the Church calendar for these nights.
All the teaching will be practically orientated in order to help apply the truth to our words.

If I’ve done Bible School can I still come to GROW? (if I’ve done Bible School do I still need to do grow?)

Yes! There is something for everyone. We have tried to ensure that people at different stages of maturity in Christ will be able to benefit from some of the courses on offer. We encourage everyone to continue to take intentional steps to keep growing in their walk with God.

When is GROW on?

We have set aside Tuesday evening as the primary evening for our "GROW Sessions"

Where should I start? (So many choices where do I start?)

The first steps that we recommend for every believer to GROW are as follows:

These modules are designed to lay a solid foundation of God’s word that will set the path for the future growth of a believer. We recommend that as you plan your growth you would prioritise these modules.

An Introduction

We encourage every believer to prioritise their growth in God firstly by developing a strong devotional life where they learn to dig into the word of God and apply it to their lives and secondly where everyone takes advantage of environments that will accelerate their growth in Christ

At His People Church we have been blessed with Bible School. Over the years we have seen a great culture of faith form as the truths learnt at Bible School were put into practice. Our Church has become a Bible believing environment where lives are changed and God is glorified. We have truly seen the words of Jesus in action when he said "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8vs31,32

As a leadership team we have been dreaming of how we can better equip every believer. We have listened to numerous suggestions that have be made of how we can improve Bible School.

We have asked ourselves the question of how we could better fulfill the mandate "for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ" Ephesians 4vs11-13.

We believe God has answered our prayers and questions.
