Take-A-Peek at the Greeks

Saturday July 24, 2010- 1pm

Milo Bail Student Center Dodge Rooms (3rd Floor)

This is an informational gathering of those interested in Greek Life at UNO. You will have the opportunity to meet the Recruitment Team, receive information, and ask any questions you may have about Recruitment and the Sorority experience! Parents and friends are encouraged to come. Attire is casual.

You can RSVP to:

Recruitment Week
August 17-21, 2010

Tuesday, August 17, 2010- 6-8pm

Recruitment begins with a General Information Night. You will meet the 2010 Rho Gammas and Recruitment Team. This is the night to learn about Panhellenic, to learn about Greek life, and to ask any questions. The Potential new Member will also learn about the financial obligations for each chapter. Attire is casual- jeans and a cute shirt are fine!

Wednesday, August 18, 2010- 5-9pm

This is a Video and Orientation Night with the four sororities. You will get a chance to meet each chapter and learn more about them throughout the night. Attire is casual- jeans and a cute shirt or a summer dress.

Thursday, August 19, 2010- 6-9:45pm

Skit Night is the night where all the sororities perform a skit or presents what Greek Life is to their particular sorority. This is one of the most exciting nights of Recruitment! Attire is a bit dressier, a skirt or summer dress; something you would wear to a summer wedding.

Friday, August 20, 2010- 6-9:30pm

Preference Night/ Bid Night occurs on the last night. It is very formal and the most meaningful of nights for all who participate. It is a night where the sorority members get more personal to show the potential new members how special their experience in a sorority has been. It is also the night where the potential new members decide on which sorority they would like to join. This is the most formal night of recruitment- a dress is appropriate.

Saturday, August 21, 2010 -10:30am- end time will vary

Bid Day- This is where the potential new members find out which sorority they have an invitation to join! The potential new members are introduced to their new sisters and get to spend the afternoon getting to know their sisters better! Attire is back to casual!

SORORITIES AT A GLANCE:

Alpha Xi Delta

Alpha Xi Delta was founded in1893 by ten young women who shared a vision and a dream of a national organization dedicated to the personal growth of women. Today, Alpha Xi Delta is a vibrant chapter, continuously winning awards both at UNO and nationally for academic excellence, leadership and involvement in the community.

The timeless vision of Alpha Xi Delta, “Inspiring women to realize their potential,” is what being in a sorority is all about. Through opportunities for involvement, tools for academic success, engaging in the community and the unconditional love and support of sisters, women all across the country are realizing their potential and doing things they never thought they could do.

The ideals of personal development, scholarship, friendship, and civic responsibility are ideals we embrace and bring to every Alpha Xi Delta member, enriching their lives and continuing the legacy of our founders.

Chi Omega

The spirited Zeta Delta Chapter is proud to say we are on the winning edge of 171 national Chi Omega Fraternity chapters!

Conventions and workshops have given us individual Awards of Excellence and Achievement in chapter management, finance, recruitment, and advisory. We continue to emphasize excellent scholarship for each member– our first goal each year, the UNO Greek Week Scholarship trophy. And we still make time for sisterhood, friendships, campus involvement, leadership, and philanthropy. Three years of sponsoring the fall Hula Hoop-a-thon raised enough money this year to grant a wish to a very sick teenager for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, our national philanthropy.

Sigma Kappa

Sigma Kappa’s are genuine-classy ladies that enjoy having fun while being a part of UNO’s campus life. The purpose of Sigma Kappa is to provide women lifelong opportunities and support for social, intellectual, and spiritual development. The ladies of Sigma Kappa achieve this by bringing women together to positively impact our communities. Sigma Kappa’s motto is one heart one way. Our colors are lavender and maroon and our official jewel is the pearl. The friendships made in Sigma Kappa are one of a kind and life long.

Philanthropies: Gerontology (the study of aging), with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease research and programs directed at improving the lives of older citizens; Inherit the Earth; Maine Seacoast Mission.

Scholarships: The Sigma Kappa Foundation provides scholarships to collegiate and alumnae members each year, including scholarships for leadership, continuing education, and gerontology. Our chapter gives out scholarships every semester to members with the most improved and highest GPA’s.

Zeta Tau Alpha

The Gamma Mu chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha started at UNO on July 3, 1950. Gamma Mu has an excellent reputation for service, campus leadership, intramurals, and philanthropic events. Sisterhood is a large part of the Gamma Mu chapter and it is seen in everything we do — you never see a Zeta without a sister nearby.

Last year, as a chapter, we donated over 200 hours of community service and raised over $3,000 dollars for our national philanthropy, breast cancer awareness and education. For our efforts we were also able to receive the Philanthropy Award from the UNO Panhellenic Council.

In the past year, we have won such awards as 1st Place Spirit Cup at Homecoming, two years in a row, the UNO Panhellenic Risk Management Award, Highest New Member GPA, and the Best New Member Essay.
