In the changing environment of the music business record labels undoubtedly need to be complete partners with the artistic community and Amanda will be the perfect executive to meet that challenge," said Mr. Stringer.

"I'm very excited to be working with Rob Stringer and joining a label as iconic as Epic," commented Ms. Ghost. "Epic historically has stood for pop music in as broad and exciting a sense as possible."

"I'm not a conventional choice as an executive in the music business, but it is testament to the new mood at Sony where content is now king and the music business is being put back in the hands of creative talent such as myself. I'm here to draw on my experiences as an artist, songwriter and producer to make the new and existing artists signed to Epic as brilliant and successful as possible," she continued.

Ms. Ghost's most recent acclaim has come as a Grammy-nominated songwriter, working with artists such as Beyoncé, James Blunt, Jordin Sparks, Kanye West, Shakira, Jay Z and many others. She has recently been nominated alongside Beyoncé for a Golden Globe for the song 'Once in a Lifetime' the theme song for Cadillac Records.

Her songs and compositions have sold over 25 million records in the last three years. Her credits include James Blunt's "You're Beautiful"; Beyoncé & Shakira's "Beautiful Liar" and Jordin Sparks "'Tattoo."

As a popular artist and performer in her own right, Ms. Ghost released her major label debut album "Ghost Stories" (Warner Bros.) in 2000 and later went on to release records in the UK on her own record label, Plan A records which was distributed through Universal Records. During that time she also started a publishing label and music production company where she signed new and developing artists, most recently, Hugo Chakra, who is licensed through Jay Z's record label Roc Nation.

Winners of the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards Announced

Jeff Healey, Martin Sexton, Dan Zanes, Jamie Lidell, Tony Trischka and Lucy Wainwright Roche among those honored by the Awards Program for the ‘Indie Revolution’

Montclair, NJ – January 13, 2009 -- A diverse group of independent musicians and creative designers have been named winners of the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards (IMA).

Winners in more than 50 album, song and design categories were selected from
thousands of submissions from around the globe and range from established
and emerging talent including Martin Sexton, whose career-spanning
retrospective Solo won in the Live Performance Album category; multi-genre
virtuoso, Dan Zanes took top honors in the Children’s Album category with
Nueva York; Tony Trischka, whose banjo wizardry has inspired a generation of
players and won best Americana Album for Territory; and the late Blues great,
Jeff Healey, won posthumously for his 2008 release, Mess of Blues.

Rising indie stars are also well represented in the 8th IMAs. She's toured the country extensively, having appeared with such artists as Rob Thomas, Jewel, James Blunt, Gavin DeGraw, and on one memorable evening, Prince. Toby’s national TV performances include the Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, NBC's Today Show, and CBS' Second Cup, among many others. She can currently be heard singing the theme song for NASCAR on Fox broadcasts.

Growing up outside of Philadelphia, Lightman went her own way when it came to music, listening to hip-hop and rock, but also falling in love with Stevie Wonder and devouring the Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James records in her father’s oldies-dominated collection. Encouraged by her high school music teacher, Toby started to train her voice by working in various choral groups. She made her solo debut at graduation, cutting loose on Paul Simon’s neo-gospel anthem “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and bringing some in the audience to tears. When she returned from her freshman year at the University of Wisconsin, where she was studying broadcasting, “I started going to jazz clubs in Philadelphia and singing the only two songs I knew,” she says with a self-mocking laugh.

While in college, Toby took what she learned from being classically trained on the violin as a child, and taught herself to play the guitar. She started writing songs of her own shortly after that. Later during her college years, in a spur-of-the-moment decision of unprecedented boldness for an academically achieving suburban kid, she took off a semester to spend five months in Bangkok as a singer in a band of Philadelphia musicians. The experience built her confidence and heightened her desire to take the ultimate plunge, but she went back to Wisconsin, beefed up her course load and got her degree along with her class before heading to New York and taking a job bartending while pondering her next move. She had no idea how to proceed, but resourcefulness and luck can combine in magical ways. “Manager, production deal, record deal—all happened in about six months,” she says, sounding like she still doesn’t quite believe it.

Now, having all of those experiences behind her, Toby feels that much more confident putting this new record of songs out independently. “The music business seems to be changing almost hourly! I can barely keep up with all the new and interesting ways there are to release music and communicate with the audience. It’s an exciting new world and I’m just so appreciative that my fans want to hear my music, in whatever form it takes!”

“Lightman’s dusky vocals and earthy, groovy vibe invite comparisons to Joan Osborne and Sheryl Crow”
-USA TODAY

“no small talent… Toby Lightman continues to shine a light on her knack for making rich, soulful pop”
-PEOPLE

Great Music Site's Featured Artist John Temmerman

Great Music Site's Featured Artist John Temmerman

The Johnny Griffin classic “Chicago Calling” can also be considered a reference to the suburbs of the Windy City . Skokie, IL native, John Temmerman, influences include tenor titans like Chicago’s Eddie Harris, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter and multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan Roland Kirk. His third recording “Live in Evanston – John’s Mixed Bag captures his band in live quartet and quintet performances from 2007 and 2008.

Temmerman’s interest in jazz was piqued as a teenager; he plays tenor, soprano and alto saxophone and clarinet. After years spent earning an advanced degree, establishing a family with his wife Tina and their son Joe and developing his professional business career, he was drawn back into the music world in the early 1990’s, started a trio in 1995 and began performing live.

With his solid, no-nonsense straight ahead approach to music it’s no surprise that he’s inspired by the legends -- and a few unsung heroes as well. He cites the Miles Davis classic Kind of Blue as a major inspiration, but you can immediately hear the influence of the great Long Tall Dexter in his performances. “When I hear the Dexter Gordon album Go and the song ‘Three O’Clock In The Morning, that’s what a tenor saxophone is supposed to sound like. Dexter had a big tone and less is more approach”.

You’re as liable to see Temmerman playing soprano in Chapel on Wednesday morning with the Gospel Choir at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America ’s Lutheran Center as on the bandstand of a jazz club. “Playing with the Lutheran Center Gospel Choir is a joy. I enjoy interpreting hymns. ‘Just A Closer Walk With Thee’ (featured on Mixed Bag) is an example. For me, the purpose of music is to glorify God. God gave me a need to perform and teach music. I went along with that, even though I denied it for a while. “ He is firmly grounded in his family, his faith and unapologetically places both above music. “I have my wife, who suffers from FSH Dystrophy to care for and have to be closer to home than some musicians.”

Chicago has a strong and legendary tenor tradition, from the “Little Giant” Johnny Griffin, Gene “Jug” Ammons, Von & Chico Freeman to Clifford Jordan and numerous unsung talents. Thanks to the airplay and recognition Temmerman has gained with each successive recording, his talent is no longer a well-kept secret of the Windy City .

Visit John Temmerman online

2008 Song and Lyric Competition

2 days left to enter the 2008 competition

Song of the Year is currently accepting entries into
the final round (December's Round) of the 2008 Song
and Lyric writing competition. While the BarPulse chart often reflects the dominance of a particular artist or genre, the balance of the chart that was not from the "Dark Horse" album reflected the diversity of top music played. From Country and Pop to R&B and Rock, the selections on Ecast mirror the diversity and reach of the network.

With a video that has spawned many Internet stars and parodies, Beyoncé's "Single Ladies" was bound for success on this month's music chart of the top played songs in bars and nightclubs across the country. Not to be outdone is Nickelback and their chart topping new album "Dark Horse" which accomplished quite a feat with four songs in the top ten - reinforcing that the Canadian rockers are always a force to be reckoned with.

"'Single Ladies' is its own cultural phenomenon," said Lisa Tiver, senior vice president business affairs, Ecast. "Between people posting their own dance videos on YouTube to the 'Saturday Night Live' skit featuring Justin Timberlake in a leotard, it's no wonder that people tap into that trend when they are out socializing at bars and nightclubs. BarPulse is a constant reflection of not only top new music plays, but also of the moods and tastes of trend influencers."

Great Music Sites Year End Promotion Special!

We are offering a special one-time opportunity to promote your music or website to over 250,000 music fans for $25! Charlie appears in the magazine's "What I've Learned" column, where remarkable people are featured offering wisdom and advice. For the January 2009 issue, a month in which America will inaugurate a new president, Esquire highlights 50 "What I've Learned" interviews -- one person representing each state. Published interviews include Clint Eastwood (who is on the cover), Jeb Bush, Quincy Jones, Larry Bird, Paris Hilton as well as a few from ordinary Americans who are fascinating in their own right -- a lobsterman from Maine, a toll collector, and the caretaker of Mount Rushmore. All together, the feature is a monumental collection of wit, wisdom and advice from a diverse group of people.

Universal Music And Eros International Announce Joint-Venture To Globally Promote Indian Pop Talent

Universal Music Group (UMG), the world's leading music company, has joined forces with Eros International, the leading integrated studio in India's media and entertainment industry, to launch a joint-venture artist-management agency to groom and promote Indian pop talent locally and globally.

The agreement was announced today by Kishore Lulla, Chairman & CEO, Eros International, and Max Hole, President, Universal Music Asia Pacific Region, and Executive Vice President, Universal Music Group International (UMGI).

The joint venture was officiated with a contractual signing on November 18, and came into immediate effect. Rajat Kakar, Managing Director of Universal Music India, has been appointed the inaugural Chairman of the JV. Sunil Lulla, President, India, of Eros International, and Jyoti Deshpande, COO of Eros International Group, are on the JV's Board of Directors. The launch phase will focus on marketing and promotional initiatives for new, undiscovered pop acts from around India. This agreement is the first of its kind for UMG in both India and the South East Asia region.

Established in 1977, Eros International operates a strategic Indian-film business that covers Global Distribution, Motion Pictures, Music, Home Entertainment, e-Television, New Media and Animation. With offices in more than 50 countries, Eros releases up to 50 new films annually and exploits a 1,900-title film library, making it one of the largest content owners in the business.

Universal Music Group is the world's leading music company with wholly owned record operations or licensees in 77 countries. Its company in India is headquartered in Mumbai. The partnership with Eros will ensure that fresh new artists will be signed and promoted throughout the country as well as internationally. With access to UMG's artist-management expertise, they will also be provided with exciting opportunities to develop their talent and be exposed to new, wide-reaching promotional avenues.

Max Hole said: "Eros is an incredibly exciting and ambitious company. Combining the creative ideas and marketing skills of Eros and Universal Music will certainly give a huge boost to Indian music and artist development."

Added Kishore Lulla: "Music and films are naturally intertwined, so the synergy is unmistakable. As we continue to expand our film slate, we are constantly searching for new talent. Our tie-up with Universal, and their expertise in pop music talent management, is perfectly complimentary with Eros' ability to offer a credible platform for such talent through its films or worldwide distribution network. The possibilities for Indian and international collaborations are very exciting."

Rajat Kakar commented: "Indian music today is at a very interesting juncture, influenced by global trends and distributed via new avenues. We are excited at the prospect of pioneering India's first-ever 360 degree talent management entity aimed at creating musical icons that appeal to millions of Indians, with the potential of appealing to global audiences as well

Amy Winehouse arrested on suspicion of drugs possession

Amy Winehouse arrested on suspicion of drugs possession

LONDON - Amy Winehouse has been arrested on suspicion of drugs possession, police and her spokesman said Wednesday.

Winehouse's spokesman, Chris Goodman, said the arrest is connected to a video that is alleged to show the troubled singer taking drugs at a party in her home in north London.

Britain's The Sun tabloid in January published still images from a video that it claimed showed Winehouse inhaling fumes from a small pipe. The images were said to have been filmed during a party at her London home.

London's Metropolitan Police said a 24-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of drugs possession. Goodman confirmed his client was in police custody.

"Amy Winehouse voluntarily attended a London police station today by appointment. She was arrested in order to be interviewed and is cooperating fully with inquiries," Goodman said in a statement.

"The interview relates to a video handed to police earlier this year," he said.

Winehouse is famous for her hit "Rehab." She has had a turbulent private life. Last month she was cautioned by police for assault after she slapped a man during a night out. That means no charges were filed, but the incident was placed on her record.

Shortly after The Sun published still photographs of the video, Winehouse entered a London rehabilitation center.

Leona Lewis Regains No. 1 On Hot 100

Leona Lewis Regains No. 1 On Hot 100

May 01, 2008, 12:00 PM ET
Katie Hasty, N.Y.

With help from "American Idol," Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" is back in the No. 1 spot on The Billboard Hot 100. Moving 2-1, the track replaces Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" featuring Static Major, which flip-flops with "Bleeding Love" after only one week on top. Lewis performed the song, this week's biggest digital sales gainer, last week during the elimination round on "Idol."Meanwhile, "Lollipop" does find it's way to the top of Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs as it moves 3-1, becoming the chart's first rap single to reach No. 1 since Ludacris' "Money Maker" climbed to the top in October 2006.Back on the big chart, Jordin Sparks' "No Air" featuring Chris Brown holds at No. 3 while Madonna's "4 Minutes" featuring Justin Timberlake rebounds 6-4, aided by this week's release of the album on which it appears, "Hard Candy." Usher's "Love in This Club" featuring Young Jeezy falls 4-5 as "Sexy Can I" by Ray J & Yung Berg experiences an up-tick 7-6.Mariah Carey, this week's Billboard 200 topper, sees her "Touch My Body" descend 5-7 while Sara Bareilles' "Love Song" keeps the No. 8 spot warm. Chris Brown's "Forever" is this week's hot shot debut, bowing at No. 9. That achievement equals Yael Naim's "New Soul" for highest debut of 2008. Yet another Brown track, "With You," rounds out the top tier on the Hot 100, moving 9-10.Jesse McCartney instantly gets his best Hot 100 peak by entering at No. 14 with "Leavin'." The single is culled from his forthcoming album "Departure," due May 20 via Hollywood. Formerly RadioFire.net, Echoboost.com premieres with over 6,000 registered artists and 12,000 songs.

Offering a new alternative for fans of online radio, Echoboost's custom music player encourages listeners to Boost the songs they enjoy and Drop the songs they don't. Songs that receive the most Boosts will continue to be played at random on the Music Player according to genre and location, while Dropped songs will make way for new tracks. In addition to assisting musicians build their local fan bases, songs receiving the most Boosts will be featured on regional and national Echoboost play lists.

"When 'American Idol' meets YouTube, you get Echoboost, a social network for user-generated music," explains founder and president Matt Henage. "People get pretty passionate about the things they like and dislike, so this is our way of letting the listeners take the reigns and rally behind the songs and artists they enjoy the most."

With a focus on community, Echoboost encourages people to network with others who share similar tastes via profile pages, user comments, lists of favorite bands, genres, locations and song tags.

Henage started to work on the site in February 2005 as a solution for friends in local bands who had trouble gaining exposure for their music. "I knew a lot of musicians that were creating good, quality music, but they were all having the same difficult time finding people to share it with. It was a desire to help them be heard that led me to create Echoboost, a place where people can hear something new from bands in their own neighborhood and throughout the United States."

No longer a one-man-show, Henage is joined at Echoboost by a staff eager to spread the best of unsigned music. Among these team members is music industry veteran Lathum Nelson, who'll be using his experience of working with artists like Ozzy Osbourne, Tom Petty and Depeche Mode to promote the site.

Contact: Lathum Nelsonlathum@radiofire.net801 388 8236

Fall Out Boy reveals 'Young Wild' dates

Fall Out Boy fans have managed to "unlock" all the dates on the pop-rockers' upcoming Young Wild Things Tour, which will also feature Gym Class Heroes, Plain White T's and Cute is What We Aim For.

The North American trek launches Oct. 18 in Columbus, OH, and makes its way from the East Coast to the West Coast into early December.
