استمتع بتجربة Hangouts الجديدة في Gmail

أعلنا الأمس عن طرح خدمة Hangouts التي تعد طفرة كبيرة في خدمات التواصل في الوقت الفعلي التي تقدمها Google. بدلاً من الإصدارات المختلفة للدردشة ودردشة الفيديو والمكالمات على مستوى منتجات Google، تتيح لك خدمة Hangouts طريقة متناسقة للتواصل مع من تريد.

ولكن ما الذي يعنيه ذلك بالنسبة إلى Gmail؟ الآن أصبح لديك خيار التبديل من الإصدار الحالي للدردشة إلى Hangouts. لن يلزمك سوى النقر على زر التجربة بجوار قائمة الدردشة للتبديل إلى Hangouts ولتحصل على تجربة دردشة أكثر جاذبية في الحال. الآن أصبح بإمكانك الاطلاع على صور الملفات الشخصية بترتيب أحدث الدردشات. باستخدام Hangouts ستتمكن أيضًا من إرسال الرسائل وإجراء مكالمات الفيديو سريعًا مع عدد يصل إلى 10 أشخاص في آن واحد، كما ستتمكن من مشاركة الصور. يمكنك بدء الدردشة مع صديق واحد فقط أو مع مجموعة كاملة.

Try out the new Hangouts experience in Gmail

Yesterday we announced Hangouts, a big improvement to Google’s real-time communication services. Instead of different versions of chat, video chat and calling across Google products, Hangouts gives you one consistent way to connect with the people you care about.

What does this mean for your Gmail? You now have the option to switch from the current version of chat to Hangouts. Simply click “Try it out” next to your chat list to switch to Hangouts and give your chat an instant facelift (Literally!). You’ll now see the profile photos in the order of your most recent conversations. With Hangouts, you’ll also be able to quickly send messages, have video calls with up to ten people at once, and share photos. You can start a conversation with just one friend or even a whole group.

Hangouts transition effortlessly between desktop and mobile -- in fact, Hangouts will be available in Gmail, Google+, Android phones and tablets, iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and as a Chrome extension. You can start a Hangout on your phone, and pick it up in Gmail right where you left off!

The new Hangouts experience in Gmail is rolling out as an optional switch starting today. Click the “Try it out” button when it appears next to your chat list to switch right away, or you can switch later after learning more about the new Hangouts here.

تم مساء الأمس تدشين الإصدار السادس من مؤتمر Google I/O السنوي لمطوِّري البرامج والذي يشارك فيه ما يربو على 6000 مطوِّر برامج في مركز موسكوني للمؤتمرات بولاية سان فرانسيسكو، بالإضافة إلى فعاليات I/O Extended التي تنعقد في 460 موقعًا من المواقع الإضافية على مستوى 90 بلدًا، كما يتابع فعاليات المؤتمر ملايين الجماهير حول العالم عبر البث المباشر. وعلى مدار الأيام الثلاثة المقبلة، سيتم عقد جلسات فنية ومعامل تجريبية بالإضافة إلى العروض التوضيحية لمنتجات Google والتكنولوجيا التي يقدمها الشركاء.

يركز مؤتمر العام على حدث يعد بمثابة مفترق طرق في مجال الحوسبة ألا وهو التوجه نحو عالم تتنوع فيه أحجام الشاشات. لقد دخلت الأجهزة اللوحية والهواتف الجوَّالة سريعًا في مصاف أجهزة الكمبيوتر المحمول، حيث باتت هذه الأجهزة جميعها مألوفة وعادية؛ أما الآن فقد ظهر ما يُعرف باسم تقنية الحوسبة القابلة للارتداء.

وخير ما يمكن تقديمه في هذا العالم الذي أصبح يتميز بتنوع أحجام الشاشات هو توفير خيارات مختلفة، سواء أكان ذلك للمستهلكين أم لمطوِّري البرامج. لقد أنشأنا Android وChrome لتمكين مطوِّري البرامج من الابتكار والوصول إلى أكبر قدر ممكن من الأشخاص من خلال تطبيقاتهم وخدماتهم. وقد حقق مطوِّرو البرامج العديد من الإنجازات خلال سنوات معدودة. لقد بدأ Android في شكل فكرة بسيطة تطورت لتصبح نماذج مفتوحة على الجوَّال؛ واليوم أصبح Android نظام التشغيل الرائد لأجهزة الجوّال في العالم. وكذلك الحال بالنسبة إلى Chrome الذي تم طرحه منذ أقل من 5 أعوام عندما كان مشروعًا مفتوح المصدر، ثم أصبح اليوم المتصفح الأشهر على مستوى العالم؛ حيث تجاوز عدد مستخدميه النشطين 750 مليون مستخدم. وتتيح هذه الأنظمة المفتوحة والمرنة لمطوِّري البرامج التركيز على تصميم تطبيقات مذهلة على أجهزة متعددة.

نركز في Chrome على توفير تحسينات السرعة والبساطة والأمان في الجوّال بحيث يتوفر به من الميزات ما تتمتع به أجهزة سطح المكتب. ولذلك استعرضنا اليوم الجيل الجديد من ترميز الفيديو VP9 الذي يوفر أداء بث سريع للفيديو؛ كما استعرضنا requestAutocomplete API الذي يوفر إمكانية سداد مستحقات على الجوّال، بالإضافة إلى استعراض تجارب Chrome مثل "A Journey Through Middle Earth" وRacer لتوضيح إمكانية إنشاء تجارب تأسر عقل مستخدم الجوّال الذي لم يسبق أن رأى مثلها. ففي Android، طرحنا العديد من واجهات برمجة تطبيقات المواقع الجديدة، بالإضافة إلى ترقية كبيرة لخدمة المراسلة عبر السحاب في Google، لنتيح لمطوّري البرامج السلاسة في دفع البيانات من خوادمهم إلى تطبيقاتهم. كما تساعد أداة Play Developer Console في تمكين مطوّري البرامج بسهولة من تحقيق نسبة وصول أكبر إلى تطبيقاتهم واستثمارها بطريقة أوسع، من خلال ميزات مثل ترجمة APK ومتابعة الحملات والإيرادات.

كما يسعدنا ما تم التوصل إليه من خبرات على هذه الأنظمة. وفي ما يلي بعض الإيضاءات على منتجات Google وخدماتها التي شاركناها في الكلمة الرئيسية اليوم:

+Google: كشفنا النقاب عن التصميم الجديد لخدمة +Google، الذي يساعدك بسهولة في استكشاف المحتوى بالإضافة إلى التحسين الجذري لتجربة الصور على الإنترنت حتى تحصل على صور أنيقة ورائعة بدون عناء! كما أدخلنا ترقية على تطبيق دردشة الفيديو الجماعية الشهير على +Google المعروف باسم Hangouts، حتى تتمكن من إجراء جميع دردشاتك اليومية عبر الإنترنت مع عدد يصل إلى 10 من أصدقائك ومن خلال أي جهاز وأي نظام تشغيل.

بإمكان التكنولوجيا ترك أثر كبير على الحياة اليومية لملايين المستخدمين، ولكن لن يمكننا إنجاز ذلك وحدنا؛ فالإنترنت عبارة عن نتاج مجموعة من الأدوار ويأتي في الصدارة بين هذه الأدوار دور مطوِّري البرامج. إن مؤتمر I/O هو فرصتنا للالتقاء والتعبير عن شكرنا لكم على كل ما تبذلونه.

Live from Google I/O: Mo’ screens, mo’ goodness

Last night, we kicked off the 6th annual Google I/O developer conference with over 6,000 developers at Moscone Center in San Francisco, 460 I/O Extended sites in 90 countries, and millions of you around the world tuned in via our livestream. Over the next three days, we’ll come together for technical sessions, hands-on code labs, and demonstrations of Google's products and partners' technology.

This year’s conference underscores a pivotal moment in computing: the trend towards a multi-screen world. Tablets and mobile phones have quickly joined laptops in becoming commonplace; meanwhile, new devices like wearables are beginning to emerge.

A multi-screen world is best served through options--as much for consumers as for developers. We created Android and Chrome to enable developers to innovate and reach as many people as possible with their apps and services. They have both come a long way in just a few years. Android started as a simple idea to advance open standards on mobile; today it is the world’s leading mobile platform.Similarly, Chrome launched less than 5 years ago from an open source project; today it’s the world’s most popular browser, with over 750 million active users. These open, flexible platforms allow developers to focus on building amazing applications across multiple devices.

With Chrome, we’re focused on bringing to mobile the speed, simplicity and security improvements that we’ve already seen on the desktop. To that end, today we previewed the next-generation video codec VP9 for faster video-streaming performance; the requestAutocomplete API for faster mobile payments; and Chrome Experiments such as "A Journey Through Middle Earth" and Racer to demonstrate the ability to create immersive mobile experiences not possible in years past. In Android, we launched several new location APIs, as well as a major upgrade of Google Cloud Messaging, which lets developers seamlessly push data from their servers to their apps. Our Play Developer Console will also make it easy for developers to get greater reach and monetization of their apps, through such features as APK translation, campaign tracking, and revenue snapshots.

We’re also excited by the experiences now possible on these platforms. Here are a few of the highlights of the Google products and services we shared during today’s keynote:

Google Play: We unveiled Google Play All Access, the first service of its kind to offer a music store, locker and monthly unlimited subscription all in one; and the Google Play game services with real-time multiplayer and leaderboards.

Google+: We unveiled the newly designed Google+, which helps you easily explore content as well dramatically improve your online photo experience to give you crisp, beautiful photos--without the work! We also upgraded Google+ Hangouts--our popular group video application--to help bring all of your real-life conversations online, across any device or platform, and with groups of up to 10 friends.

Search: Search has evolved considerably in recent years: it can now have a real conversation with you, and even make your day a bit smoother by predicting information you might need. Today we added the ability to set reminders by voice that’ll show up just at the right place and time, and we previewed “spoken answers” on laptops and desktops in Chrome--meaning you can ask Google a question and it will speak the answer back to you.

Maps: Today we previewed the next generation of Google Maps, which gets rid of any clutter in order to put your individual experience and exploration front and center. Each time you click or search, our technology draws you a tailored map that highlights the information you need. From design to directions, the new Google Maps is smarter and more useful.

Technology can have a profound, positive impact on the daily lives of billions of people. But we can’t do this alone. The Internet is the sum of its parts—and developers play a crucial role. I/O is our chance to come together and thank you for everything you do.

الحصول على Google Keep من خلال تطبيق Chrome الجديد

أطلقت Google الشهر الماضي تطبيق Google Keep ليساعدك على الاحتفاظ بأفكارك وكتابة ملاحظاتك بسهولة وسرعة عندما تفكر بها، وقد تشمل هذه الملاحظات قوائم ومهام ونقاط معينة أو صور لمتابعة ما هو مهم بالنسبة لك. يتم تخزين ملاحظاتك بأمان في Google Drive وتتزامن مع جميع الأجهزة حيث تكون في متناول اليد ومتاحة دائما. ولسهولة الوصول إلى التطبيق، يمكنك تثبيته على جهاز Android من خلال تطبيق Google Keep أو تنزيله مباشرة على الإنترنت. واليوم، مع إطلاق Google Keep التطبيق الجديد والخاص بمتصفح Chrome، تسهل عملية تنزيل Google Keep من خلال Chrome حيث أن هذه الميزة تصبح متوفرة على شاشة الكمبيوتر.

Access Google Keep with the new Chrome app

Last month, Google Keep launched to help you quickly jot down ideas and keep track of things while on the go with your Android device or on the web. Today, with the launch of a new Chrome app, Google Keep is even easier to access on your computer using Chrome.

The Google Keep Chrome app launches in its own window, so you can create notes, cross out your to-do lists, and attach photos to tasks while you work on other things. And if you don’t have an internet connection, don’t fret: the Chrome app works offline because we all know that ideas (big and small) can be sparked at any time.

You can visit the Chrome Web Store to add the app today (use the link, you won’t find it in search)!

The YouTube Comedy Week will showcase the best of comedy with video premieres and creative collaborations from the region’s funniest people. Comedy Week in MENA is part of a global campaign to celebrate comedy on YouTube.

YouTube Comedy Week will bring together the biggest names in comedy on YouTube in the region in a collaboration with “Kharabeesh”, to create a one of a kind experience for comedy fans. The week-long event will showcase different channels and new talents in the realm of comedy.

This event will consist of dedicated programming that includes new episodes from popular YouTube stand up comedy channels, news parody channels, social/political satire channels, cartoon animation and more. The week-long campaign aims to celebrate the unique flavor of humor and comedy in the Middle East region and showcase rising talents to the YouTube community.

Bringing it all together: 15 GB now shared between Drive, Gmail, and Google+ Photos

Life gets a bit easier when your Google products work well together -- whether that’s inserting a Drive file into an email or sharing a photo from Drive on Google+. As this experience becomes more seamless, separate storage doesn’t make as much sense anymore. So instead of having 10 GB for Gmail and another 5 GB for Drive and Google+ Photos, you’ll now get 15 GB of unified storage for free to use as you like between Drive, Gmail, and Google+ Photos. And just as before, files created in Docs, Sheets, and Slides as well as photos in Google+ smaller than 2048px won’t count against your storage quota.

With this new combined storage space, you won’t have to worry about how much you’re storing and where. For example, maybe you’re a heavy Gmail user but light on photos, or perhaps you were bumping up against your Drive storage limit but were only using 2 GB in Gmail.Now it doesn’t matter, because you can use your storage the way you want.

We’ll also be making updates to the Google Drive storage page, so you can better understand how you’re using storage space. Simply hover over the pie chart to see a breakdown of your storage use across Drive, Gmail, and Google+ Photos. And if you need more storage, this is your place to upgrade, with plans starting at $4.99/month for 100 GB.

Pro tip: This change means you’re no longer limited to 25 GB in Gmail. Any additional storage you purchase can now be used in Gmail.

An easier way to save files to Google Drive

We surf the web for a million different reasons – for everything from school research projects to time-killing memes. And when we find something relevant for us, whether that be our most recent pay stub or just an adorably awesome pic, we may want to save it for later reference or to share with friends in the future.

Starting today, Drive users can use the "Save to Drive" button to do exactly that. The “Save to Drive” button is an easier way to save files directly from a website. If you have your own website, you can improve the experience for your site visitors by adding the “Save to Drive” button to your page using two easy lines of HTML.

Adding a Save to Drive button on your website is easy. You simply have to include the script and HTML tag below:

You can also use the Save to Drive button’s JavaScript API, which allows programmatic and flexible control of the creation of Save to Drive buttons in your web pages.

The Save to Drive button works in the context of the user’s browser. This allows your users to save files that could require some form of HTTP authorization – such as a session cookie – without any special customization from you. Take your Translate Phrasebook to go -- and translate by camera in 19 more languages

When you’re traveling in another country, you want quick access to your favorite translated phrases -- whether it’s “Where can I find great local art?” or “Do you know where the bathroom is?” Google Translate lets you save these translations in your Phrasebook, but until now what you saved on your desktop didn’t sync to your mobile app. Starting today, you can automatically sync your Phrasebook to your mobile app for Android, so the phrases you learn at home are always in your pocket when you travel.

To try it out, go into your Google Translate app on Android, tap on the app menu, and check out your Phrasebook. (This replaces the old Favorites feature; your saved phrases are now part of your Phrasebook.) To sync your phrases, simply sign in to your Google Account by tapping the ‘sign in’ button at the top of the Phrasebook.

- إرجاع تسجيل البث المباشر. بغض النظر عن موعد بدء المشاهدة، يمكنك في أي وقت العودة بشريط الفيديو إلى الوراء لحضور المقطع الأول من التسجيل

Some highly-requested improvements to Hangouts On Air

Have you ever missed the beginning of a live Hangout On Air, and wanted to rewind? How about viewing and sharing your recording right after your broadcast, versus waiting for "processing…"? Today we're launching these, and two other features, to improve your Hangouts On Air experience:

- Rewind live broadcasts. Regardless when you start watching, you can always go back to the beginning

- Access recordings immediately after your broadcast. Once you're no longer On Air, your recording will be waiting for you on YouTube

- Watch higher quality Hangouts On Air on the go. If you're tuning in from your mobile device, you'll notice better-looking video

- Start live broadcasts without having to refresh. When you visit a page with a Hangout On Air (like Events or YouTube), the video will begin playing as soon as the show starts -- no refresh required.

As part of these enhancements, it may take longer to set up your Hangout On Air. For example: the 'Start broadcasting' button may be grayed out for a bit, before it turns red. Nothing to worry about: this is just us getting everything in place before you go live.

في مشاركتها الأولى بسوق السفر العربي، أعلنت شركة Google نتائج دراسة مستقلة أجرتها مؤسسة "إبسوس"، هدفت إلى فهم أفضل القرارات التي يتخذها المسافرون من السعودية و الإمارات، أن المسافرين من السعودية والإمارات العربية المتحدة يعتمدون على الهواتف المتحركة والتقنيات الأخرى مثل الفيديو لاتخاذ قرارات السفر.

و كشفت دراسة "طريق المسافر لاتخاذ القرار" أن المستخدمين في كلا البلدين يمتازون باطلاع تقني واسع ، كما امتازت بيانات الدراسة بالعمق والثراء حول سلوكيات المستهلكين بخصوص الرفاهية والتجارة والمسافرين الأثرياء.

دور المواقع الالكترونية في قرارات السفر

وجاءت النتائج الأولية للدراسة لتشير إلى أن الإنترنت يلعب دوراً رئيسياً في عملية صنع القرار للسياح بالإمارات والسعودية سواء كان الغرض ترفيهياً أو تجارياً، وبالإضافة إلى النصائح المباشرة من العائلة والأصدقاء، يعتبر الإنترنت المصدر الأول لتخطيط الرحلات لأكثر من ثلث مسافري الترفيه الذين تم تقييمهم (39% في الإمارات و 38% في السعودية)، وهذا الرقم يزيد عند المسافرين للأغراض التجارية حيث يصل الرقم في الإمارات إلى 50% و48% بالسعودية.

وتختلف طريقة بحث مسافري الترفيه في السعودية عنها في الإمارات ففي السعودية يعتمد المسافرين على المواقع الاجتماعية ومحركات البحث كمصادر للمعلومات بينما يعتمد المسافرون في الإمارات بشكل أساسي على محركات البحث أكثر من اعتمادهم على الفيديوهات والخرائط كمصادر للمعلومات، وهذا شبيه بالحال في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.

السفر و الهواتف الذكية

مع ارتفاع أعداد الهواتف الذكية وتحسن وسائل الاتصال في المنطقة، أصبح استخدام الأشخاص العازمون على السفر هواتفهم المتحركة عند التخطيط لرحلاتهم طبيعياً حيث أظهرت الدراسة أن 48% استخدموا هواتفهم الذكية في العام الماضي بالنشاطات المرتبطة بالرحلات، و ارتفع هذا العدد إلى 69% مع الحواسيب اللوحية.

وتتضمن النشاطات المرتبطة برحلات السفر كل الأمور المتعلقة بالسفر مثل حجز خط الطيران أو الفندق و كتابة الآراء الشخصية و التحليل في مواقع السفر، والبحث في الطقس او الخرائط للعثور على موقع سياحي مناسب، والبحث عن المواقع السياحية ومشاهدة فيديوهات السفر او نشرها ضمن النشاط الشخصي على الإنترنت. وفي هذا يبرز السعوديون باستخدامهم للهواتف الذكية حيث يلجأ 50% من المسافرين السعوديين للشبكة العنكبوتية من خلال هواتفهم الذكية مقارنة ب- 35% في الإمارات.

قطاع السفر ينبغي أن يواكب اهتمام مسافري الخليج باستخدامات الهواتف الذكية

و على الرغم من الآفاق الكبرى لمستخدمي الهواتف في قطاع السفر في الشرق الأوسط، لم تستغل شركات السفر بعد هذه الفرصة، فكشفت الدراسة أن العديد من المسافرين يستخدمون هواتفهم الذكية لتصفح الانترنت والبحث عن الخيارات والعروض السياحية المتوفرة إلا أن عددا قليلا جدا منهم يستطيعون إكمال الحجز عن طريق هواتفهم الذكية بسبب مشكلات في مواقع السفر التي يتصفحونها.

المانع الرئيسي للحجز عبر الشبكة في السعودية والإمارات، بحسب نصف المستطلعة آراؤهم، هو أن مواقع السفر ليست مهيأة ومتوافقة للاستخدام عبر الهواتف، ما يعني أن تجربة المستخدمين في تلك المواقع ضعيفة حيث صعب تصفح و قراءة صفحات تلك المواقع عبر الهواتف. وقد ذكر 20% من المستطلعة آراؤهم أن المواقع الإلكترونية على الهواتف لم تتوفر فيها خدمات الحجز، وهذا يعني أن هذه المواقع تفتقر للقدرات التجارية أو القدرة التقنية على توفير آليات الدفع الالكترونيأ و الخدمات التجارية الإلكترونية.

وتعليقا على نتائج هذه الدراسة، قالت ماري دي دوكلا، مديرة قطاع السفر في Google الشرق الأوسط : "لا غرابة أن يكون الهاتف الذكي جزءً لا يتجزأ من الحياة اليومية للمسافرين في الشرق الأوسط ومن قراراتهم الخاصة بالسفر، لهذا فإن القصور في الحجوزات الإلكترونية التي تعاني منه الكثير من المواقع يعتبر أمراً مفاجئا، لكنه في الوقت نفسه يشكل فرصة سانحة وكبيرة لقطاع السفر لأن يطور حضوره الإلكتروني للوصول إلى عدد اكبر من المسافرين في الإمارات والسعودية خاصة مع استخدامهم الهواتف المتحركة بشكل اكبر".

التوجه الجديد: الفيديو يسهم في عملية صنع قرارات السفر

كما كشفت الدراسة إلى أن المسافرين يستخدمون الفيديو بشكل واسع كمصدر للمعلومات لاتخاذ القرارات الخاصة في مراحل التخطيط للسفر، و خاصة القرار الخاص بالسفر و اختيار الوجهة السياحية، مما يعتبر أفقاً مفتوحاً لشركات السفر .

في السعودية، يشاهد الفيديوهات 81% من المسافرين الترفيهيين ، و 92% من المسافرين في قطاع الأعمال، و 87% من المسافرين الأثرياء ، ومن بين هؤلاء يشاهد 85% مقاطع الفيديو مرة واحدة على الأقل في الأسبوع بينما يشاهد 69% منهم الفيديو مرات عديدة في الأسبوع وتقريبا 80% يشاهدون مقاطع YouTube.

كما تعتبر مقاطع الفيديو منصة تصل فيها الشركات إلى العملاء المستهدفين، وبحسب الاستطلاع، فإن 68% من المسافرين الأثرياء و75% من المسافرين للأغراض التجارية في السعودية أكدوا أنهم تعرفوا على علامة تجارية خاصة بالسفر لم يكونوا يعرفونها من قبل، وأشار 70% من المستطلعة آراؤهم إلى أن مقاطع الفيديو شجعتهم على اعتماد شركة معينة شاهدوا لها إعلانا معيناً.

و في الإمارت، تظهر بيانات الدراسة أن المسافرين الإماراتيين يستندون أيضاً إلى مقاطع الفيديو عبر الإنترنت لاتخاذ قرارات بشان رحلاتهم السياحية المقبلة، حيث يشاهد 84% من رجال الأعمال المسافرون مقاطع الفيديو عبر الشبكة ،وهذا أكثر من مسافري الترفيه الذين تبلغ نسبتهم 68% أو المسافرين الأثرياء الذي تقدر نسبتهم بـ62%. كما شاهد ثلاثة أرباع المستطلعة آراؤهم الفيديوهات مرة في الأسبوع و77% منهم ركزوا على YouTube كمصدر للمعلومات.

بالإضافة إلى ذلك، استخدم 21% من المسافرين الإماراتيين الأثرياء مقاطع الفيديو عبر الانترنت كمصدر أول للمعلومات للتخطيط للرحلات مقارنة بمواقع الخرائط عبر الشبكة العنكبوتية، وكذلك استخدم 18% من أثرياء المسافرين مواقع الطيران، و 13% تابعوا مواقع تقييم السفر، و 5% شاهدوا محركات البحث عند تفكيرهم بالسفر.

نتائج أخرى خاصة بالدراسة:

أسباب السفر

زيارة العائلة هي السبب الأول للسفر في الإمارات والسعودية، فهي تشكل 71% من رحلات السفر بالنسبة لمسافري السعودية و 55% من مسافري الإمارات.

التخطيط للسفر

الحجز في الدقيقة الأخيرة ينتشر بكثرة في السعودية سواء لمسافري الترفيه أو رجال الأعمال، حيث أكد 50% من المستطلعة آراؤهم أنهم يحجزون لسفرهم قبل اقل من أسبوعين مقدماً، أما في الإمارات فبلغت النسبة 35%.

يستخدم المواطنون في الإمارات الإنترنت لحجز رحلات سفر الترفيه أكثر من الجنسيات الأخرى (61%)

المقيمون العرب في الإمارات يستخدمون الإنترنت أكثر من غيرهم للتخطيط لرحلات العمل ( 50% من المستطلعة اراؤهم).

Google at ATM: Study Shows Travellers in the UAE, KSA Use Mobile and Video When Making Travel Decisions

Participating for the first time in the Arabian Travel Market, Google announced today the results of an independent study conducted by Ipsos to better understand the decision making process of travellers in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The study, entitled “Traveller’s Road to Decision,” revealed that users in both countries are tech savvy and rely on mobiles and videos when making travel decisions. The study provides in-depth data on the consumer behaviour of leisure, business and affluent travellers.

Role of the web when it comes to travel

The initial finding from the study is that the web plays a key role in the decision making process for both leisure and business travellers in the UAE and in KSA. Apart from direct advice from friends and family, the internet is the number one source for trip planning for more than a third of leisure travellers surveyed (39% UAE, 38% KSA). This number rises for business travellers -- in the UAE it jumps to 50%, while in KSA it jumps to 48%.

What leisure users are doing online varies from Saudi to the Emirates. In Saudi, leisure travellers rely on social networks and search engines as sources of information; while in the UAE, they rely on search engines primarily, before online videos and maps as sources of information. This mirrors the US where search engines are the leading source for information.

Travel is Mobile

With smartphone ownership and improved connectivity continuing to grow rapidly in the region, it is no surprise that travellers are using their mobile devices when planning trips. Among those that use the internet to plan their travel, 48% have used their smartphone in the past year to engage in a travel related activity, rising to 69% for smartphones or tablets specifically. Travel related activity includes everything from booking a flight or hotel, to writing reviews on travel sites; checking weather or maps for a travel destination, searching destinations, watching or posting travel videos among other online activities. Saudis lead the way with their mobile usage when it comes to travel - with 50% of travellers accessing the web through smartphones, while it’s 35% in the UAE.

Travel Industry Must Catch Up with Savvy Mobile Use of Gulf Travellers

It is clear that the Middle East travel sector has a great opportunity to engage with mobile using customers. However, travel companies are currently missing out on the prospect to convert these mobile travellers into bookings. The survey showed that although travellers use mobile phones and smart devices to access the internet and research travel options, a very small number complete their booking via mobile devices due to issues with the sites they are accessing.

Across both UAE and KSA, the leading barrier to booking online cited by half of the respondents was that the websites were not mobile-ready -- meaning the user experience was poor, the pages were hard to navigate through mobile device and difficult to read. Another 20 percent of those surveyed mentioned that the mobile websites didn’t have booking capabilities. This means they either lack commercial capabilities, ability for online payment transactions or other e-commerce enabled services.

Marie De Ducla, Head of Travel Industry at Google MENA, commented on the study, “Today, especially in the Middle East, travellers are constantly connected to the internet and it is no surprise that mobile is part of their exploring and decision making process. The lack of bookings made online through smartphones is surprising, but represents a massive opportunity for the travel industry to improve their online presence, and tap into the UAE and KSA travellers who more and more are using their phones as a digital concierge.”

New Trend: Video Emerges as Part of the Decision Making Process

A new opportunity exists for travel brands in online video and the data is significant. According to the study, travellers use video as a popular source for the first two stages of planning travel - when “thinking about taking a trip” and “choosing a destination.” In Saudi, 81% of leisure travellers; 92% of business travellers and 87% of affluent travellers watch online videos. Among those who watch online videos 85% of them watch at least once a week, while 69% watch several times a week and approximately 80% watch those videos on YouTube.

The video platform is also a place where advertisers and brands will find active audiences trying to reach Saudi travellers. According to the survey, 68% of affluent and 75% of business travellers in KSA said online videos introduced them to a travel brand they were not aware of, and nearly 70% responded that online videos encouraged them to consider the brand that was being advertised.

When it comes to the UAE, the data shows UAE travellers also rely on online video when making travel decisions. UAE business travellers (84%) watch more online videos than leisure (68%) or affluent travellers (62%). Nearly three-quarters watch online videos once a week and 77% of those are viewed on YouTube.

Additionally, affluent UAE travellers use online videos as their number one source for planning trips (21%) in conjunction with online map sites. Following videos and maps, affluent travellers use airline websites(18%), travel review sites (13%) and search engines (5%) when making travel decisions.

Visiting family is cited as the number one reason for travel across UAE and KSA. They make up 71% of trips for KSA travellers and 55% for UAE travellers.

Travel Planning

Last minute booking is extremely high in Saudi for leisure and business travellers; with more than 50% of the respondents saying they book less than two weeks in advance. In the UAE, 35% of respondents say they book less than two weeks in advance.

Locals in the UAE use Internet to plan leisure trips more than anyone else (61%)

Arabs in the UAE use internet more than anyone else to plan business trips (50% of those surveyed).

إذا كنت تُجري عددًا كبيرًا من عمليات جدولة المواعيد عبر البريد الإلكتروني، فقد أصبح بإمكانك الآن وبسهولة إنشاء الأحداث من رسائلك الإلكترونية مباشرة. اعتبارًا من اليوم، سيتم وضع خط خفيف أسفل التواريخ والأوقات للإشارة إلى أنه يمكنك بسهولة النقر على هذه التواريخ والأوقات لجدولة موعد مكالمة جماعية مثلاً أو تاريخ بدء شيء ما بدون أن تضطر إلى مغادرة Gmail.

Add events to Google Calendar from Gmail

If you do a lot of scheduling over email, it's now a little bit easier to create events directly from your emails. Starting today, dates and times within emails are lightly underlined to indicate that you can quickly click them to schedule that conference call or lunch date without ever leaving Gmail.

When you click on one of these underlined dates, you’ll be able to preview your schedule for the day and change the title, date or time of the event. Clicking “add to Calendar” will do exactly that -- add the event to your calendar, and for extra convenience, the calendar event will include a link back to the original email.

This new feature is rolling out over the coming weeks to everyone with the English (US) language. We'll be adding other languages soon, so stay tuned.

Google Celebrates Labor Day

Today, Google celebrates Labor Day around the world. This day is dedicated to celebrating and honoring the numerous social and economic contributions of workers from around the globe. The day is celebrated in many more than 80 countries around the world on the 1st of May.

The celebration of Labor Day commemorates the success of trade unions from around the world in legally establishing the eight-hours-work-day in the early 20th century. The day is a celebration of the struggles which the working class and trade unions had endured to achieve their goals of attaining more rights and better protection for workers and laborers.

The innovative doodle presented by Google depicts several workers from different trades blended across the Google logo. The logo acts as an extension of their respective trades, offering workers a desk, a place to grow plants, walls to paint and construct, a setting for communication and more.

Doodles are known as the decorative changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate different people, events or special dates such as holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists and scientists. وضع إشارة بأسماء الآخرين في المشاركات باستخدام +Google

تعد المدونات وسيلة رائعة لإشعال جذوة النقاش، ولذلك نقدم لك اليوم وسيلة جديدة لجذب انتباه الآخرين من خلال وضع إشارات باسمهم على +Google في Blogger. الآن يمكنك إضافة رابط إلى ملف شخصي أو صفحة ما على +Google إذا كنت تريد وضع إشارة باسم الشخص في المشاركة. وعند نشر المشاركة من Blogger على +Google بعد ذلك، نسهل عليك الإشعار بإشاراتك من خلال تضمينها في مربع المشاركة.

ولوضع إشارة باسم شخص ما، لن يلزمك سوى كتابة "+" قبل اسم من تريد وضع إشارة باسمه أثناء استخدامك محرر مشاركات Blogger.

وبعد ذلك سيظهر الملف الشخصي أو الصفحة في شكل رابط ضمن المشاركة التي تنشرها. وعند تحريك مؤشر الماوس فوق الرابط ستظهر بطاقة تحتوي على مزيد من المعلومات وعلى الزر "إضافة إلى الدوائر". سيؤدي النقر فوق الرابط إلى نقلك مباشرة إلى الملف الشخصي أو الصفحة على +Google.

وبذلك يصبح بإمكانك نسبة العمل لأحد المشاركين فيه (الشكر موصول إلى +Gregory Fair!)، أو طرح سؤال، أو فتح باب حوار، وذلك بمجرد ربط مدونتك على +Google وبعد ذلك وضع إشارة باسم الشخص في مشاركتك!

Mention people in your posts with Google+

Blogs are a great way to spark a conversation, and today we’re giving you a new way to grab someone’s attention: Google+ mentions in Blogger. Now you can add a link to a Google+ profile or page when you want to mention someone in a post. If you then share your post from Blogger to Google+, we make it easier to notify your mentions by including them in the sharebox.

To mention someone, just type “+” before their name while you’re using the Blogger post editor.

The profile or page will show up as a link in your published post. Hovering over will show a card with more info and an ‘Add to circles’ button. Clicking the link takes you straight to the Google+ profile or page.

So, whether you want to credit a co-author (thanks +Gregory Fair!), ask a question, or just kick off a dialogue, connect your blog to Google+ and try mentioning someone in your next post!

عند فتح ملف في Drive، ستظهر لك صور الملفات الشخصية للمشاهدين الآخرين في الجانب العلوي بدلاً من ظهور الاسم فقط. وهذا بدوره يسهل عليك إلقاء نظرة سريعة لمعرفة من يستعرض الملف غيرك. يمكنك تحريك مؤشر الماوس فوق إحدى الصور للاطلاع على تفاصيل حول من يستعرض الملف وإضافته إلى دوائرك على +Google، وكل ذلك بدون أن تغادر Drive.

Bringing people together in Drive

More often than not, you need to work with others to get things done. Today, working together in Drive is getting even easier with new profile pictures and one-click group chat.

Now when you open a file in Drive, you’ll see the profile pictures of other viewers at the top instead of just their names. This makes it easy for you to do a quick scan of who else is in the file. You can hover over a photo to see details about the viewer and add them to your circles on Google+ -- all without ever leaving Drive.

In addition, you can now start a group chat with just one click. Simply select the new chat button at the top right and a chat box will appear, making it easy for you to quickly message everyone in the file.

These new features will roll out over the next day or two, and we’ll be adding support for more file types (like Google Sheets) soon, so stay tuned.

تدريب الصحفيين العرب على الصحافة الرقمية بالتعاون بين Google وتحالف الأمم المتحدة للحضارات ومعهد البنك الدولي

عقد كل من تحالف الأمم المتحدة للحضارات وGoogle، بالشراكة مع البنك الدولي، دورة مدتها يومان كاملان من التدريب الرقمي حضرها 25 من أبرز الصحفيين في مجال الشبكات الاجتماعية والصحافة الإلكترونية من 11 بلدًا من بينها الأردن ومصر ولبنان والعراق واليمن وعُمان والبحرين وسوريا وليبيا وغيرها. وتهدف هذه الدورة إلى التدريب على أدوات الويب التي تساعد على تحسين التغطية الإخبارية وإعداد التقارير على مستوى الثقافات المختلفة.

وقد شارك بتمويل ورشة العمل التي استغرقت يومين كل من Google وتحالف الأمم المتحدة للحضارات، كما ترأس أعمالها فريق دولي من الخبراء التابعين لشركة Google وتحالف الأمم المتحدة للحضارات ومعهد البنك الدولي وغيرهم من خبراء الإعلام المرموقين. بلغ عدد المتقدمين للالتحاق بالدورة التدريبية 700 صحفي، كما تم بثها بالكامل مباشرة عبر Google+ Hangouts وYouTube على مدار اليومين.

وقد استضاف هذه الدورة معهد الإعلام الأردني، وهو معهد للتميز في مجال الصحافة بالعالم العربي نظم فعالية مماثلة لطلابه في اليوم التالي لانعقاد الدورة. ونظرًا لما شهدته المنطقة مؤخرًا من أحداث وما يلعبه المدونون من دور متزايد، فقد جاءت عمان الاختيار الطبيعي - بعد الدورة التدريبية التي استضافتها تونس في تشرين الثاني (نوفمبر) 2012 بالتعاون بين تحالف الأمم المتحدة للحضارات وشركة Google - لتدريب شباب الصحافة الإلكترونية النابهين والمدونين الذين يسعون إلى تغطية الأحداث ونقلها بشكل أفضل لثقافات مختلفة عبر الويب والتعرف على أخلاقيات المهنة والتفاعل مع الآخرين.

المشاركون في الدورة التدريبية في مدينة عمان بالأردن

كما تبادل المشاركون أيضًا الرؤى والخبرات عبر الثقافات لتحسين التلاحم الإقليمي بشأن الأولويات المشتركة المستندة إلى البيانات. كان من بين المشاركين في الدورة صحفيون من مدونات جديدة ومن وسائل إعلام تقليدية من مختلف أنحاء العالم العربي شملت مؤسسات صغيرة وكبيرة للصحافة المطبوعة والإلكترونية ووسائل البث الإعلامي رغبة منهم في التعرف على كيفية الاستفادة من أدوات الإنترنت.

من المقرر تنظيم اجتماعات متابعة خلال الأشهر المقبلة عبر جلسة Hangout على +Google يحضرها المشاركون كما يحضرها المدربون بصفتهم موجِّهين وذلك للحفاظ على زخم العملية واستدامتها.

Google, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the World Bank Institute jointly organize a unique digital journalism training for Arab journalists

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and Google, in partnership with the World Bank, delivered a full two day Digital Training to 25 top social media editors and web journalists from 11 nationalities, including Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, Oman, Bahrain, Syria, Libya among others, to train on web tools for better newsgathering and reporting across cultures.

The 2-day workshop was underwritten by Google and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and led by an international team of experts from Google, the UNAOC, the World Bank Institute, and other high level media experts. More than 700 journalists applied for the training which has been entirely live streamed via Google+ Hangouts On Air and on YouTube throughout the two days.

It was held at the Jordan Media Institute in Amman, an institute of excellence in journalism in the Arab world, which held a similar engagement for its master's students the next day. Given the recent events in the region and the growing role of bloggers, Amman, after the Tunis training held in November 2012 by the UNAOC and Google, appeared as a natural place to train young web savvy journalists and bloggers willing to better report across culture and on the web, learn about ethics and interact with each other.

Participants also shared cross-cultural insights and experiences, to improve regional cohesion on shared data-driven priorities. Among the participants were journalists from new blogs and mainstream media from the entire Arab World from small to large print, online and broadcast media, all eager to learn how to better use online tools.

Follow-up meetings will be organized in the course of the coming months via Google+ Hangouts between participants and trainers that will play the role of mentors, to maintain engagement and sustainability of the process.

2) Click on the post’s current category (located at the top next to the date)

3) Select the new category you’d like to move the post to

لا شك أنك تعرضت لهذا الأمر، إذا كان قد سبق لك إجراء جلسة Hangout. إن هذه الأصوات تجعل الدردشة أثناء الكتابة أمرًا شاقًا للغاية. ربما صادف وكنت أنت من يُصدر هذه الأصوات أثناء الكتابة ولم تنتبه حتى كتم الصوت عليك شخص ما! ولذلك أضفنا إمكانية كتم الصوت تلقائيًا أثناء الكتابة. ويتضمن ذلك على وجه التحديد ما يلي:

- إذا ظل شخص ما يكتب أثناء جلسة Hangout، فسيتم كتم الصوت عن الميكروفون الذي يتحدث منه حتى يتوقف

Does anyone actually like the sound of typing in a Hangout?

If you’ve done Hangouts, you’ve almost certainly experienced it. It’s hard to chat over that typing. Maybe you’ve accidentally been that typist, and didn’t realize it until someone muted you! That’s why we’ve added automatic muting when you type. Specifically:

- If someone keeps typing in a Hangout, their mic will be muted until they stop

- They'll see an in-Hangout notification, so they know they're not interrupting the conversation

- We’ll do this for larger Hangouts (4+ people).

Bringing Google+ Comments to Blogger

Reading and responding to comments can be one of the most rewarding aspects of blogging. Not only do they help you connect with your readers, they can also inspire later blog entries. The challenge, oftentimes, is following all the conversations around your content—on Google+, for instance, as well as on your website. So today we're making things a lot simpler.

Starting today, you can bring Google+ Comments to your blog. Once you've enabled the feature through your Blogger dashboard, you'll enjoy a number of important benefits, including:

View your blog and Google+ comments, all in one place

Now when you're browsing your blog's comment threads, you'll see activity from direct visitors, and from people talking about your content on Google+. So for example: if there's a public discussion around one of your articles on Google+, those comments and replies will also appear underneath your blog entry. This way you can engage with more of your readers, all in one place.

Help readers comment and connect with their circles

Your blog readers will now have the option to comment publicly, or privately to their circles on Google+. And when they're browsing blog comments, they can view all of them, just the top ones, or only those from the people in their circles.

In all cases, you and your readers will only see the comments you have permission to see. Giving people these kinds of controls not only encourages more meaningful sharing—it can lead to more blog traffic.

To get started with Google+ Comments, just visit the Google+ tab of your Blogger Dashboard, and check “Use Google+ Comments.” (Older comments will continue to appear in the new widget.) You can also visit The Official Google Blog and Blogger Buzz to see Google+ Comments in action.

برنامج سفراء Google في جامعات الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا لعام 2012: إنجازات رائعة تعني الكثير!

يعد برنامج سفراء Google في الجامعات (GSA) بمثابة فرصة لطلاب الجامعات الذين يريدون العمل قريبًا من Google وتطوير مهاراتهم المهنية والتعاون مع غيرهم من مختلف أنحاء المنطقة في مجالي الأعمال والتكنولوجيا.

ومنذ بداية العام الأكاديمي، عقد السفراء الذين وقع عليهم الاختيار عام 2012 العديد من الفعاليات الناجحة، طافوا خلالها 11 بلدًا و80 جامعة من جامعات الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا. وقد بدأت عملية تلقي طلبات الانضمام إلى البرنامج لعام 2013، كما تم مد الموعد النهائي لتلقي طلبات الانضمام إلى 24 نيسان (أبريل).

لقد تنوعت الفعاليات التي عقدها السفراء لتشمل ورشات عمل تدريبية ولقاءات عادية، كما استهدفت هذه الفعاليات تعريف منتديات طلاب الجامعات بمنتجات Google وبرامجها المختلفة التي تقدمها للطلاب.

ومن بين هذه الفعاليات الناجحة تم تدشين حملات لإثراء محتوى خرائط Google في بلدان هؤلاء السفراء باستخدام مصمم خرائط Google. وقد تمكن السفراء من جمع آلاف التعديلات خلال هذه الحملات المتواصلة، ولا يزال عدد التعديلات في تزايد.

كما نجح سفراء Google في جامعات الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا في عقد فعاليات لنشر الوعي بالشبكات الاجتماعية، من خلال التعريف بميزات +Google الجديدة. وكان من بين هذه الفعاليات فعالية حضرتها واحدة من أهم سفراء +G وهي الفنانة ميريام فارس بمقر الجامعة الأمريكية في لبنان، كما حضرها المدير الإقليمي لشركة Google في مصر وشمال إفريقيا، وائل الفخراني. وخلال هذه الفعالية شاهد المئات من الحضور الفنانة ميريام فارس وهي تشرح ميزات +G، بما في ذلك جلسات Hangout، كما تحدثت عن أهمية هذه الميزة في كسر حاجز المسافة التي تفصلها عن معجبيها حول العالم.

إلا أن أنشطة سفراء Google في الجامعات لا تقتصر على مجالي التكنولوجيا والإعلام؛ فقد طلب الرئيس أوباما خلال زيارته لفلسطين مؤخرًا الالتقاء بالشباب الناشطين لاستيعاب مشكلاتهم وما يواجههم من تحديات وللتعرف على مبادرات الشباب في المنطقة. وقد اختارت المنظمات غير الربحية المحلية

بطلب من السلطة الفلسطينية

ثمانية طلاب لتمثيل بلدهم أمام الوفد الأمريكي. وكان من بين هؤلاء الطلاب الثمانية أكرم دويكات، أحد سفراء Google في الجامعات ورئيس مجموعة مطوِّري برامج Google (GDG) في نابلس. وقد وقع عليه الاختيار نظرًا لأنشطته المتعددة في مجال التكنولوجيا بصفته أحد سفراء Google في الجامعات ورئيس مجموعة من مجموعات مطوِّري برامج Google، وقبل ذلك كله بصفته أحد المتطوعين في المنظمات غير الربحية.

وخلال لقائه مع الرئيس باراك أوباما، تحدث أكرم عن برنامجي GSA وGDG والفعاليات ذات الصلة بهما، بما في ذلك مؤتمر أسبوع المشروعات الناشئة في نابلس (StartUp Weekend Nablus) وغيره من الفعاليات التي عقدها في مقر الجامعة. كما تحدث أكرم عن أهمية الاستثمار في مجال ريادة الأعمال والأفكار التجارية الجديدة والتنمية للمساعدة في تشييد مستقبل أفضل لمن يعيش في فلسطين. وعلى الرغم من أن الحاجة لا تزال قائمة لمزيد من هذه المبادرات، فإن البرامج من نوع برنامجي GSA وGDG توفر للمنتديات إمكانية التعلم من الغير ومشاركتهم تجاربهم القيمة. كما تساعد هذه البرامج في إبراز مهارات الشباب الموهوب بالمنطقة وإثرائها؛ مما يخلق نافذة لطلاب الجامعات يمكنهم من خلالها استكشاف إمكانياتهم الكامنة وأن يثبتوا لأنفسهم مدى تفوقهم في المجال وأن يحصلوا على ما يستحقونه من مكافآت مقابل إنجازاتهم التي تعني الكثير!

إذا كنت تريد الانضمام إلى البرنامج والاستمتاع به فهذه فرصتك للمشاركة في صناعة التاريخ من خلال برنامج سفراء Google في الجامعات خلال العام الأكاديمي 2013-2014، شريطة أن تكون أحد طلاب الماجستير أو البكالوريوس في إحدى جامعات الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا خلال العام الأكاديمي التالي على الأقل.

MENA 2012 Google Student Ambassador Program: Do Cool Things That Matter!

The Google Student Ambassador Program is an opportunity for university students to work closely with Google, develop their professional skills, and collaborate with people from around the region who are excited about technology, or eager to learn. The 2013 application for the Middle East and North Africa region is now open, and the deadline to apply has been extended to April 24.

Since the start of the 2012 academic year, the MENA Google Student Ambassadors held many successful events, spanning 11 countries and 80 universities in the Middle East and North Africa. The events, ranging from training workshops to casual meetups, served to educate their respective university communities about Google products and programs relevant for students.

Among the successful events were campaigns to enrich the Google Maps content of their countries using Google Map Maker. The Ambassadors collected thousands of edits through these ongoing campaigns, and it’s still growing.

The Google Student Ambassadors (GSA) in MENA have also succeeded in holding social media awareness events, introducing new features of Google+. One of these events hosted none other than G+ Ambassador, Myriam Fares at AUL in Lebanon, along with Wael Fakharany, Google’s Regional Manager for Egypt and North Africa. Hundreds of attendees watched as Myriam Fares introduced G+ features, including Hangouts, and talked about how it helped remove the barrier of distance between her and her fans around the world.

But GSA activities aren’t just limited to campus. During his recent visit to Palestine, President Obama asked to meet with active youth to understand the problems, challenges, as well as youth initiatives in the region. Local NGO’s nominated eight students to represent their country to the US delegation. Among the elite eight was Akram Dweikat, Google Student Ambassador and Google Developer Group (GDG) leader in Nablus. Akram was selected because of his numerous activities in the field of technology as a GSA, a GDG leader, and even before that as an NGO volunteer.

During his meeting with President Obama, Akram spoke about the GSA and GDG programs and related events, including StartUp Weekend Nablus and other events he held on campus. He talked about how investment in entrepreneurship, new business ideas, and development would help build a better future for those in Palestine. Though support for these initiatives is still much needed, programs such as the GSA and GDG enable communities to learn from one another and share valuable experiences. They also help to highlight and enrich the skills of the talented youth in the region - creating a gateway for university students to discover their hidden potential, challenge themselves in the field and get recognized for their hard work and ultimately do cool things that matter!
