It's call "Manager of His Home" and it's by Steve Maxwell of www.titus2.com. It's packed with scripture references and insight specifically for homeschooling dads and their homes. If you get a chance, I highly recommend it! Mr. Maxwell really dives into the husband as the head of the home and family and helps point you in the right direction to raising and teaching your kids and strengthening your relationship with your wife in the process. I've only listened to disc one so far, but am looking forward to part 2.

For more info, you can visit www.titus2.com. We discovered the site from my sister-in-law (who I borrowed the talk from as well) as they feature products for helping you organize and schedule your home and homeschool. Homeschooling is a very difficult endeavor, but the rewards are countless. If you're thinking about it or have any questions, drop me an email at jeremy@goodsaints.com.

A major announcement was made at the Marian Conference XVIII last weekend about the future of the Marian Center as current directors Josh and Lori Mercer will be turning over the reigns to Bryan and Julie Tuck. This is a blessed occasion as the Marian Center begins a new chapter serving the Catholic faithful in northern Michigan.

I currently serve on the board of directors for the Marian Center and will be helping Bryan as he brings his strong graphic design and website marketing background to the online presence of this apostolate. Follow the link below for some info about the Tuck Family and audio of their introductory speech at the Marian Conference.

Hebda as the next bishop in the Diocese of Gaylord. Bishop-elect Hebda was the Undersecretary of the Pontifical Council for the Interpretation of Legislative Texts at the Vatican.
Check back later for info from the press conference!

Update #1: Here's what the Bishop-elect had to say at his introductory press conference...

"I am both humbled and honored by our Holy Father’s decision to appoint me as Bishop Cooney’s successor," said Bishop-elect Hebda. "Never in my wildest dreams have I ever imagined that I would one day be the Bishop of Gaylord. I can remember being fascinated by a display of Bishop Baraga’s deerskin chasuble and having the greatest admiration for him when I read about his ministry at Harbor Springs and Cheboygan and on Beaver Island – but never did I have an inkling that the Lord would one day call me to serve His flock in the northern portion of the lower peninsula of Michigan.

"I am so grateful to Bishop Cooney not only for his kindness to me, but most especially for the way that he has been Christ’s gentle and guiding presence in this local Church over the past twenty years," Bishop-elect Hebda added. "I am honored to be given the opportunity to continue his good work.

"I look forward to getting to know the people of this Diocese – their needs, their strengths, their history, so that we can together strive to continue to make Christ’s presence felt in this portion of His vineyard," Bishop-elect Hebda concluded.

New website for Catholic Dads! - Rob Kaiser has updated the Catholic Dads blog and it's fantastic. Lots of Catholic dads post items there and it's a really great resource for all things fatherhood. Check out the new site at www.catholicdadsonline.org.

New website for Marian Conference - My friends Josh and Lori Mercer host a Marian Conference each year at Boyne Mountain (Boyne Falls, Michigan) and I've helped them whip up a new website for it. This year's conference is October 16-18, 2009 and it's the eighteenth conference. Lots of great speakers in a beautiful setting. The new site is at www.marianconference.org.

New Daily Prayers Page - I've had this page on my personal blog for a while, but finally moved it here. It's just a page with a couple of prayers I pray everyday. I hope to keep adding to it and make it a great prayer resource. Check it out at www.goodsaints.com/daily-prayers/.

Twitter - I started a Good Saints Twitter account a while back (it's the bar on the right-hand side) and post items there from time to time. Check it out at twitter.com/goodsaints.

Thanks for visiting and God Bless You!

I've been meaning to talk briefly about Fathers for Good, an initiative for men by the Knights of Columbus, for some time now.

The site features tons of information for Catholic Fathers, who need all the help they can get raising good catholic children. I recently watched a great video titled Our Troubled Times by Psychiatrist Richard Fitzgibbons. He talks about men and their emotions and how to handle today's troubles in society. It's well worth watching (especially the part on manly virtues) and you can watch it here.

Also on the site is a section called Model Fathers, which features great information on two of my favorite saints and one of my favorite "saints" - St. Joseph, St. Thomas More, and Venerable Servant of God Father Michael McGivney (In March 2008, Pope Benedict XVI approved a decree recognizing the heroic virtue of Father McGivney, a parish priest of the Archdiocese of Hartford and found of the Knights of the Columbus, who died in 1890 at the age of 38).

I am a member of the Knights of Columbus and love the work they are doing to help Catholic Families. Every day I see more and more the battle ahead that we have to raise our children and it's good to know that we are not alone physically or spiritually. St. Joseph, St. Thomas More, and Venerable Father McGivney - Pray for Us!

I mean seriously, what good are they? Does anyone have anything positive to say about having children? Apparently not. And now they are also responsible for destroying the environment. At least according to an Oregon Study that says having children...

is the most destructive thing that can be done to the environment.

So I've got a great idea. Let's all just stop having children. That way the earth can stay healthy and pollution won't keep growing. Of course no one will be around to see it, but hey, sounds like a good plan to me.

My wife and I have 4 children and we get plenty of comments and looks about the size of our family. Which is funny, because to me 4 doesn't seem like that many, as many of our friends have 5, 6, 7, 8, or 13! But people seem to think we're nuts and often ask "you're done, right?". We sacrifice much to have our children. If we had stopped at 2, we'd have more stuff and more money and get to do more things and be happier, or so we're told. Watching them play together really makes me thankful and blessed to have them.

Today's anti-family world scares me especially with how accepted abortion and gay marriage are, and our current President and his very liberal agenda. I continue to pray for families and their children to stay strong and live their faith in these very trying times.

Read Children the Greatest Threat to US Environment: Oregon Study at LifeSiteNews.com.
