<p>The Festival and Event Management Masterclass is an intensive 2 day programme designed to inform and inspire anyone involved in the business of creating, managing and developing festivals and events. It is a highly practical course full of ideas and examples to increase participants knowledge and improve their events. It includes sessions on key tasks and challenges for festival organisers such as Marketing, Press, Programming, Evaluation, Sponsorship and Fundraising.</p>
<p>Paul Gudgin has over 20 years experience in the management of festivals and events and was for 8 years the Director of the world’s largest arts festival, The Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This was an exciting period that saw the event double in scale hosting an incredible 12,000 performances and selling over 8 million tickets. Paul was appointed visiting Professor of Festivals and Events by Leeds Metropolitan University and is currently the Senior Consultant at the Edinburgh Institute for Festival and Event Management at Edinburgh Napier University. Paul has hosted festival management workshops in seventeen countries and been a key-note speaker at leading event conferences in Ireland, Canada, Australia, South Korea, New Zealand, the US and China.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>GMIST was recently very fortunate to partner with celebrity chef David Wolfman and his wife Marlene Finn to work with<a href="http://www.gmist.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/IMG-20130226-00070.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-1301" title="IMG-20130226-00070" src="http://www.gmist.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/IMG-20130226-00070-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a> Bear River First Nations in Nova Scotia to deliver a two day Aboriginal Experiential Tourism Program.  Over the course of the two days David and Marlene were able to facilitate discussions around how the community could share its many hidden gems with visitors to the region.  Through a combination of story telling, class exercises and sharing of life experiences David and Marlene helped the community realize the importance of believing in themselves and sharing their passion with visitors who crave authentic cultural based experiences.  We were also very lucky to get a small taste of Davids Passion as a Chef as he shared  some of his signature food carvings &#8211; proving that food can be both nutritious and artful.    Special thanks to the community of Bear River First Nations for the great support and also to the NS Department of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>The Gros Morne Institute for Sustainable Tourism (GMIST) and its partners, Parks Canada, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and The Gros Morne Cooperating Association are proud to announce that GMIST has been awarded the 2013 National Leadership Award from the Responsible Travel and Tourism Forum (RTTF).  The Responsible Travel &amp; Tourism Forum Leadership Award recognizes a Canadian organization that has demonstrated a commitment to socially, economically, and environmentally responsible practices within the tourism industry.  RTTF applauds GMIST for its excellence in supporting the Atlantic Canada Tourism Industry through its industry relevant training programs, and for demonstrating a collaborative model for destination development in the Gros Morne region of Newfoundland and Labrador.</p>
<p>Founded in 2003, the Gros Morne Institute for Sustainable Tourism (GMIST) is a not-for-profit agency based in Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland and Labrador, that advances the quality and success of Atlantic Canadian tourism operators through an array of training programs developed and offered at the Institute.</p>

<div><strong>Funding Available:</strong> GMIST provides 50% assistance (Maximum $1000.00) for the GMIST Edge of the Wedge course to qualified Atlantic Canadian tourism operators for tuition, travel, meals, and accommodations.  You may also qualify for a further 25% from your provincial tourism department! <div>Ce programme est offert en français et il aidera les opérateurs touristiques, les organisations de marketing de destination, les organisations touristiques à but non-lucratif et les partenaires gouvernementaux impliqués dans l&#8217;industrie touristique à mieux comprendre les nouvelles tendances en tourisme expérientiel. Les participants prendront part à une série d&#8217;activités amusantes et engageantes dans la salle de classe et sur le terrain pour en apprendre plus sur le tourisme expérientiel et pour mieux comprendre comment il peut être incorporé dans leurs propres entreprises et destinations. Un élément-clé du programme est qu&#8217;il aidera les entreprises et les destinations à construire des plans d&#8217;action pouvant être mis en pratique dès le retour des participants à leurs entreprises et régions.</div>

Subvention:</strong> Si vous êtes un organisme touristique à but nonlucratif ou une entreprise touristique du Canada atlantique, vous pourriez être admissible à une bourse d&#8217;études GMIST de 60% pour couvrir les frais de scolarité et d&#8217;hébergement, jusqu&#8217;à un maximum de 500 $.
