Capitol Day is MEDA's annual legislative conference. This one-day conference includes sessions on the latest legislative issues related to economic development as well as State and Federal agency updates on economic development initiatives and laws. Capital Day also provides a unique opportunity to sit down one-on-one with your local legislator and discuss issues specific to your community or region. Capitol Day attendees are encouraged to invite their legislators and their staff. Dr. Tomas Hult will be delivering a session titled Opportunities and Challenges in Importing and Exporting in the Current Climate.

2012 CIBER Business Language Conference

The theme of the 2012 conference is "Building bridges from business languages to business communities." The conference will challenge participating scholars and instructors (from universities, colleges, K-12, businesses and governmental organizations) to inspire new lines of research, rethink teaching techniques, and create links between language classrooms and real businesses. Special plenary sessions will consider how applied professional language instruction and research is advancing, discuss perspectives from academia and industry, as well as showcase exciting examples and best practices of experiential learning.
Proposals are due by November 1, 2011; please see the conference website for additional details.

FDIB-Africa: South Africa, Zambia & Botswana

The Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) - Africa program, in its 6 consecutive year, is offered annually by a consortium of CIBER universities, led and managed by the University of South Carolina CIBER. The program focus on providing participating faculty, business professionals and graduate students a unique international study tour opportunity, which will ultimately assist the U.S. in its global competetiveness via pedagogy, research, business networking and outreach, and academic-business relationship building. The objective of the FDIB-Africa program is to raise faculty, business professionals and graduate student awareness of the economic, political and cultural environments that exist in sub-Saharan African today, and, ultimately, to leverage that first-hand awareness into competence and expertise in the classroom, boardrooms, and research campus and facilities throughout the U.S. NOTE: This year, the program offers a concurrent "spousal/adult guest" program so that family, friends, and/or colleagues can room with and experience the program with their faculty, professional or student participant.

The Globalization Seminars are designed to help business faculty bring international context into the classroom and to expand teaching and research skills. Each globalization seminar is built around a compreensive coursepack to support and demonstrate the globalization of business. Doctoral Consortium in International Entrepreneurship

Organized by RCB's Herman Russell, Sr. Center for Entrepreneurship and led by Prof. Ben Oviatt, this successful professional development program has been offered by GSU in collaboration with GT-CIBER. It represents the only professional development opportunity for doctoral students who intend to pursue research and teaching in international entrepreneurship. Participants have the opportunity to design a research project under the guidance of faculty leaders prior to leaving the event.
