Recientemente fuimos invitados a dar un taller para el congreso Identidades en Construcción, organizado por los alumnos de la carrera de Relaciones Internacionales del Tec de Monterrey.

Nos dio mucho gusto la invitación pues la lista de panelistas y conferencistas no sólo era larga sino que también contaron con gente de mucho peso como por ejemplo Jorge Castañeda e incluso el alcalde de Monterrey, Fernando Larrazbal.

El comité organizador nos invitó a dar un Taller de Redes Sociales analizando el uso que se les ha dado a estas herramientas en la organización de movimientos sociales.

La experiencia fue muy agradable, con una audiencia de casi 40 alumnos pudimos hablar del uso que se le ha dado a las redes sociales en apoyo a causas como “Twitter por Haiti”, #InternetNecesario, la campaña de Oabama entre otros.

También analizamos algunos de los movimientos diversos que se han organizado con un fin más lúdico, como por ejemplo como “Free Hugs” y los divertidos “Flash Mobs”.

La participación de los alumnos fue muy activa y en general, nos dio gusto haber compartido la tarde con todos ellos!

Sports Marketing Conference

Durante Febrero y Marzo del 2010, habrá mucha actividad de Gelattina presentando conferencias y talleres en diferentes espacios y eventos relacionados con marketing digital y la tecnología.

Empezando con el pasado jueves 4 de febrero, estuvimos dando una conferencia para la American Chamber of Commerce capítulo Monterrey.

La presentación giró alrededor de Social Networks para el desarrollo de Recursos Humanos en las organizaciones. En la conferencia cubrimos algunos aspectos relacionados con el reclutamiento, capacitación y desarrollo profesional del capital humano mediante el uso de las redes sociales. Hablaremos también de redes sociales corporativas y como pueden ser utilizadas en temas de responsabilidad social.

I just love it when YouTube allows someone to do something crazy with their channel, like the time when Nintendo promoted Wario Land or when Acciona shattered YouTube.
Well, this time it’s oceanking97’s channel doing something unexpected!

This is the latest campaign by the US National Crime Prevention Council to prevent cyberbullying.

Existen un par de trucos, desde la publicación de las primeras versiones, de Firefox, las cuales te permiten mejorar la velocidad con la que se despliegan las páginas.

Lo primero que tienes que hacer es abrir la “fuente” configuración de firefox, escribes about:config en la barra de direcciones y presionas enter. Te va a abrir una página de advertencia, haces click en ‘aceptar’ o ‘estoy de acuerdo’ y verás una lista de propiedades que puedes editar. Sin embargo, también hay una barra de ‘filtro’. Ahí escribes: pipelining.

En los resultados, cambia los valores a como se muestra en seguida:

• network.http.pipelining: true
• network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 8
• network.http.pipelining.ssl: true
• network.http.proxy.pipelining: true

Ahora, en el filtro mencionado antes, escribe start-delay y en el único resultado que aparece, cambia el valor a 0:

• network.http.request.max-start-delay: 0

Al cambiar estas variables, cerramos la pestaña about:config y seguimos navegando, será evidente el cambio en la velocidad de navegación.

Como explicación, se puede decir que un navegador web realiza solo una petición al servidor, el servidor procesa y contesta la petición, entonces, el navegador realiza otra petición, que es procesada y contestada y así sucesivamente.

Sin embargo, la versión HTTP 1.1 permite realizar múltiples peticiones en una misma conexión, una técnica llamada pipelining, y si el servidor está debidamente configurado y soporta pipelining, entonces contestará dichas peticiones en forma de ‘paquete’. Esto aumenta la velocidad de navegación.

Por esto es que modificamos los primeros valores, primero para activar el pipelining (tanto en conexiones normales, como en conexiones SSL y conexiones via proxy, si es posible) y después asignando a 8 el número de peticiones realizadas por cada conexión.

La configuración network.http.request.max-start-delay se refiere a los segundos que puede esperar el navegador a que se liberen las conexiones.

The video of course is one of the many elements of the campaign which includes a site, a facebook fan page and of course an iPhone app!

On December 7th, 2009 at 1:30pm GMT Starbucks invited musicians from all over the world to sing together at the same time to raise awareness for AIDS in Africa. As I wrote back in March, I am a big fan of Ted Talks for their inspirational selection of speakers and topics.

Today I came across a Talk by Barry Schwartz with a fascinating title:
Our loss of wisdom.

TED’s description of the conference couldn’t be more accurate:

I liked Barry’s Talk, so i thought I’d share it with you:

So i finally surrendered to the enchantment of the Flip camcorder!
You might know about it, but for those who don’t, the Flip camera is a compact video recording gadget focused on easing the process of publishing video to the web.

They come in a variety of colors with many different features, from regular video to High Definition!

The one i got is High Definition and records up to 120 minutes!

I bought it because I expect to share more about the life at Gelattina and the Flip will make it so much easier for us!
