If you’re paying for MobileMe’s $99/year service in order to use the Find iPhone App to locate your iPhone, go and cancel that account right now. Why pay this exorbitant price when you can get the same service and more for a single $1.99 App purchase? FoneHome is very similar to the Find iPhone App from Apple. You will be able to locate and track the real-time location of your iPhone so long as there is service. You can send push messages and even view the phone’s location history. The only thing missing from this great app is the ability to remotely wipe an iPhone should you loose it. Other than that the $1.99 price sure beats Apple’s $99/year subscription to MobileMe.

I will use the guide/how to below to walk you through the application features and how to use it.

Note: I used FoneHome 1.1 running on an iPhone 4 iOS4.01.

1. Tap on the FoneHome application on the Home Screen.

2. Enter your login information.

Note: You will need to create an account before proceeding.

3. Tap on the Login button.

4. Tap OK to save the changes.

Once you login you will be able to see your current location.

Note: Location accuracy is based on your GPS signal strength.

Date

Time

B. You can also see the Position History of the device (see below).

C. You can also send a Push Message to your device (see below).

How many times have you discovered a great website on your iPad and found yourself switching back and forth between Safari and Mail so that you can copy and paste the address into a new message? There’s a simpler way. Using the Bookmarks button in Safari’s toolbar you can quickly create a message that includes the link to the site you’re on so that you can share it right away.

Imagine that your computer crashes, you loose your data, and have no backup. A scenario like this would require that you download all of your purchased content and transfer all of your CD’s to iTunes again. This can be both time consuming and quite a pain because all of your favorites, play counts, and playlists would also be gone. You can remedy this issue by backing up your computer or by backing up your iTunes library to CD or DVD. The guide below will show you how to create a backup of your iTunes library.

The number of CD’s or DVD’s required for a backup of your iTunes library is dependent of your library and the options you select below. To use the backup once it has been made, simply open iTunes and insert the first disc in the series.

If you have any comments or questions, please post them below.

Note: I used iTunes 9.2 running on Windows 7 for this guide.

1. Click on File and then A. Library.

2. Click on Back Up to Disc from the Library menu.

3. Choose the type of backup you wish to perform, the options are as follows:

Back up entire iTunes library and playlists.

Back up only iTunes Store purchases.

A. You can also specify that only new or changes items be backed up. When you select this option you don’t have to backup the entire library each time.

To avoid data loss on your memory card you should always go through the Safely Remove hardware process before unplugging the device form your computer. This can sometimes be a waste of time especially if you are trying to rush out of the office before 5PM. To speed up the process you can enable Quick Removal via a policy setting for the device you wish to modify. The default setting in Windows 7 is Quick removal, however the how to below is specifically written for those of you that have enabled caching for memory devices and don’t know how to turn it off.

If you have any comments or questions, please post them in comments section below.

Note: I used Windows 7 Ultimate for this guide.

1. Right-click on the memory stick or memory card you wish to optimize.

2. Click on Properties from the list.

6. Make sure the Policies tab is active and select Quick removal.

Difference between Quick removal and Better performance

Quick removal disables write caching to the device which allows for the removal of the device without the wait. The Better performance setting, improves performance by using the drive to write caches to speed up Windows and other applications. This setting requires that you go through the process of Safely removing the device.

7. Click OK to save the changes.

If pinning up shortcuts or using Favorites in Explorer is not your thing you can always change the default Explorer folder to access a directory you use most often. In Windows 7 you will find that Windows Explorer’s default directory is the Libraries folder, but you may want the default directory to be the C:\ drive or Documents. In order to change the default directory we will need to specify the location so that Windows Explorer will open the custom location rather than the Libraries folder. Follow the guide below so that you can change the default Windows Explorer folder in Windows 7.

If you have any comments or questions, please use the comments for below.

Note: I used Windows 7 Ultimate for this guide.

1. Right-click on the Windows Explorer shortcut pinned to the Taskbar.

2. Right click on Windows Explorer from the list.

3. Click on Properties.

Make sure the Shortcut tab is active. Notice that the Target for the Windows Explorer shortcut is %windir%\explorer.exe this shortcut will automatically open the Libraries directory whenever Windows Explorer opens. We’re going to change that below.

4. To point Windows Explorer to another directory add the directory after %windir%\explorer.exe so if you want Windows Explorer to automatically open your Documents directory you would enter the following:

%windir%\explorer.exe C:\Users\[UserName]\Documents

You can use just about any directory as longs as it is valid.

5. Click OK to save the changes.

This scenario usually leads to time loss, a frustrated audience, and a call to assistance from a nearby geek. This entire experience could have been avoided if you would have been familiar with the [Windows] + [P] shortcut. When you press these two keys on your keyboard, Windows 7 will provide you with a set of display modes that will make using your projector a breeze (see below).

If you upload videos to YouTube and would like to get a pulse as to how your viewers feel, then you need to install the OpinionCloud extension for Google Chrome. Recently featured by Google, the OpinionCloud extension allows users to view a summary of Likes and Dislikes for a given YouTube video. This summary expands into two lists of keywords associated with Likes and Dislikes, this is the part that help you gauge the sentiment of those who Like the video or Dislike the video. You can click on an individual word and zero in on the comments where the word originated. As you will see in the screenshots below, this is a very powerful tool that not only will help you figure out what sucks about your videos, but it will also give you an insight as to what’s working for the competition.

Check out the screenshots below and try our the extension for yourself, it is certainly worth it. If you know of other extensions with similar capabilities, please post them in the comments section below.

Note: Negative comments were blurred out due to explicit content.

Description of Extension from Developer

This add-on implements opinion summarization of Web comments on YouTube and Flickr. Popular videos/photos often get up to thousands of comments and in order to get an idea about the crowd’s overall opinion one has to read all of them, which is of course impractical. The OpinionCloud helps to retrieve this important piece of information by generating an opinion word cloud for a given set of comments. If you have any comments, suggestions, or criticism, don’t hesitate to write a review. A note: summaries may contain explicit language, viewer discretion is advised. The opinions expressed in comments are those of the commenters alone.
