Gilroy offers homes in a variety of communities. As you become familiar with a few of them, you understand a bit more about the home sellers that live there.

You can loosely think of Gilroy as “old Gilroy” and “new Gilroy.” Homes built in the 1940s through the 1960s will generally be considered part of old Gilroy. When the real estate market began to pick up in the mid 1990s many new neighborhoods began popping up and usually thought of as “new” or “newer” Gilroy. You will find many of these neighborhoods are located in Gilroy’s northwest quadrant.

Labeling old and new is a bit deceptive because Gilroy homes aren’t just in these areas. Some home owners choose to board horses or raise other livestock which requires a country or rural property with acreage. These types of properties are generally found on the outskirts of west and east Gilroy because this is where acreage is more affordable.

Gilroy Homes For Sale in Mature Neighborhoods

With its long history, Gilroy has evolved from a small agriculture town to a growing suburb. This means you’ll find homes for sale in a variety of mature neighborhoods each with a distinct feel. Typically these neighborhoods are found in the southern and south-eastern areas of Gilroy. Homes for sale here may have been built in the 1940s through the 1980s.

Some of the homes built in the 1940s are wonderful arched doorways reflective of that period’s home styles. It isn’t uncommon to find hardwood floors in homes from this time period as well as the 1950s. The floor plans in these houses offer a distinct character that isn’t present in some of today’s more modern designs.
