The Romanian people have a deep respect for tradition, symbolism and values. Traditional thread colors of yellow, red or blue are mostly used for the women’s costumes; black thread for the men’s. The colored threads are used to design the elegant embroidery work which usually consists of intricate floral and geometric motifs. The skirts are white/ecru with the hem discretely embroidered in yellow; dark colored aprons (depending on the region) are embroidered with horizontal stripes or bands of color complimented by beads and golden or silver threads.

Saliste is situated in the center of Romania, south of Transylvania and inside the Romanian Carpathian Arc between the mountains of Fagaris and Cibin. Colder than the Country average, the diversified geography of deep valleys and the plane surfaces of the Cibin Mountains contrast with the high summits of the Fagaras Mountains. The villages surrounding the City of Sibiu, known as Marginimea Sibiului are famous for their Folklore and charming Traditional Costumes. This Region’s architecture, unique historical holidays and the devotion to preserving the ways of the ancient crafts continue to be passed from generation to generation.

Nicolae Iorga, the famous historian, described Saliste as: “Saliste, completely Romanian, is one of the most beautiful reflections of our countryside population.”
