Camden Committee’s Choice Award

“Sweet Resilience” acrylic on Stretched canvas. SOLD

I was so chuffed to hear that my painting “Sweet Resilience” won the Committee’s Choice Award at the recent Camden Art Exhibition.
It was made even more rewarding to hear that it had sold on opening night.
The work is an acrylic on stretched canvas. The beauty and stamina of the beautiful banksia and the nectar loving honeyeaters, are a match made in Heaven.

A Challenging and Rewarding Commission.

Commissioned artworks of Australian Birds
I was asked to do this challenging commission by a wonderful client, who loves our Australian wildlife. She has been a collector of my work, and I was thrilled that she had such faith in my abilities.
The paintings were done to fit together but also to be hung separately if needed for a change.
It was with personal pride I can say that the paintings were received with great joy and are now in the client’s home.

People’s Choice in Goulburn

“Always Together” Kookaburras – Acrylic on stretched canvas.

Just wandering down Memory Lane when I came across this one. These two kookaburras often visit my garden. In 2023, the painting took out the People’s Choice award at the major exhibition in the Goulburn Workers Club. Apparently, it was streets ahead in the voting. I must admit that I was so very pleased with myself. The volunteers coordinating the exhibition were so very lovely.

Elsa in Italy

“Elsa” Memories of Italy. Acrylic on stretched canvas

I do enjoy the challenge of capturing the essence of loved pets. There should be another word for pets which are loved family members.
This portrait of Elsa, a Miniature Schnauzer, was interesting, demanding and exciting. The clients are wonderful people. Their Italian souls are full and out there. We have become good friends through the process.
The discussion over the painting changed course a few times until we settled on this. Elsa is sitting in front of the loved family home in Italy. There was no way a little dog would be the centre of attention if I had painted it considering the correct perspectives. Art has its own way of allowing everything to work.
I am so very pleased, as it was received with great joy and a few tears.

A Splash of Colour

“Golden Threads” acrylic on stretched canvas.

I was inspired to paint this when I caught a lovely photo of my vibrant granddaughter in a thoughtful moment. There is so much sparkle in her.
I have called it “Golden Threads” which are those which are tied to my heart.
I believe in auras – feelings, not something that is easy to define. Colour is my way of expressing my joy in art.
I enjoy using acrylic paint as it is quick drying but easy with which to play.
My style of art is evolving and I am enjoying the discoveries I am making.
For this artwork I have used brushes and palette knives to achieve the desired effects.
It is framed with a black floating frame.

Success at Art Unlimited Dunedoo

I received a wonderful call from Norma at the Art Unlimited exhibition – “Dawn Guardian” had sold. On top of that it was awarded the ‘Janace Holmes Memorial Award’. This is the second time my work has received the award. I feel very blessed.

New Addition to my Dawn Series of Kookaburra Art

“Dawn Delight” – acrylic on stretched canvas 40cm X 101cm.

One of the fascinating things I see in the material I select for my art, is the variations of colour depending on time of day, how the light falls and what moisture is about. The gum trees in my garden are a constant source of delight. I photograph and sketch them regularly and every day they tell a different story. The extra magic comes with the neighborhood kookaburras. The mix is quintessentially Aussie. I live in a blessed place.
When planning this particular work, I had been taken by the blue in the leaves. The other colours were equally as lovely but the blue really caught my eye. It was jewellike in its sparkle. The leaves were still moist from the night’s rain and they were dancing gently in the morning breeze.
I called it “Dawn Delight” as that is how it felt for me. Again it is painted on a thick edge stretched canvas. I applied acrylic paint with brushes, palette knives and airbrush. I use a mix of metallic paint to add a different dimension to the painting. This is always best to see in the flesh in good lighting. It has been described as having a magical glow about it.
I am pleased to say that the Dawn Series has been met well and each are finding new homes easily.

The Cliffs of Moher – Acrylic Art

“The Cliffs of Moher” acrylic on canvas 174cm x 74cm.

Some years ago, Mike and I had the absolute fortune to travel in Ireland. It was as wonderful as we had heard and hoped to experience. One of the many outstanding places we visited were the ancient Cliffs of Moher. Its mystical beauty was something we will never forget. The brilliant emerald green grasses atop the cliff wall, followed a dizzying drop to the turbulent seas below. To call it ‘breathtaking’ is understating its power. Hundreds of people, milling along the cliff path were only tiny dots on the scene.
The artwork is 174 cm X 74cm framed and is painted in acrylic on stretched canvas. It is framed with a rustic timber frame.
I spent time on this acrylic work because of the unforgettable impact this experience had on me. Its very scope was a challenge to portray.
We would revisit in the battering of an eye if that were at all possible. However the memories are sweet and will do for the time being.

The Latest in the Dawn Series of Kookaburra Art.

“Dawn Amusement” – acrylic on board. 30cm X 30cm.

This cheeky visitor spent some time on this branch just checking out other birds which were a tad annoyed to see him in the area. He was not the slightest bit concerned at the constant objections of noisy miners, magpies and currawongs. In fact he seemed to be smiling at their wasted efforts to chase him away, much to my delight.
This work is acrylic on board (30cm X 30cm). It has a black gesso base all around, including the back. I used an air brush, paint brushes, sponges and palette knives to achieve the effects I wanted. It is varnished with gloss and is strung ready to hang.

Checking the Menu….Kookaburras at Lunch

“Living the Life” acrylic on thick edge stretched canvas (H 122cm X W91cm)

On a wonderful day in NE NSW, we were fortunate to come across these three locals. They were not in the least bit interested in our presence and continued watching something hiding in the grasses. There was nothing hurried. Life was good and they were in the prime of life. So comfortable and safe, they were obviously used to tourists and happily posed for a number of photographs before heading off into the trees nearby. There they seemed to be telling jokes about us as their loud, laughing calls came forth with gusto.
Later that day I spent time with sketches to try to recreate that wonderful moment. I am feeling rather pleased with the resulting acrylic painting.
