City/town: Denver, Colorado

Relationship status: Single

What was the last vacation you took? Where did you go? Where do you most want to go?

It's been way too long since I've had a vacation, but the last one was probably good old San Diego, California (the pic you see was taken right before I got dropped trou at Black's Beach). There's nothing like sunning your buns and skinny-dipping to make your trip a memorable one.

Are any famous people from your town?
The 'Unsinkable' Molly Brown, India.Arie, Dog the Bounty Hunter, Don Cheadle, Roseanne Barr, Karl Rove (boo!), The Fray. Beat writers Jack Kerouac, Neal Cassady, and Alan Ginsberg spent a lot of time in Denver, and former Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and Condoleezza Rice both went to school here.

What are some of the things you love most about your town?
It's got a little bit of everything-great food and restaurants, theatres, museums, festivals and cultural events. It's close to skiing and the mountains, and it's a sports fan's wet dream of a city, with the Broncos, the Nuggets, the Rockies and the Avalanche providing year-round entertainment and opportunities to drink beer and eat hot-dogs. The weather's great-it's really a treat to be able to experience all four seasons. And it's pretty centrally located, so that anyplace else you want to visit in the country is only a short plane ride away. It's the best of all worlds. Year after year, Denver is always high on the lists of most livable cities, fittest cities, best date cities-you name the list and Denver's on it!

What are some great ideas for a romantic gay date?
Denver's known for being fitness oriented, so a hike or bike ride is always a great idea. The downtown pedestrian mall, the 16th Street Mall, has horse-drawn carriages on just about every corner-perfect for after-dinner romance. The Bump and Grind Café has a fun Drag Brunch every weekend, and Denver's Demented Divas perform every Wednesday night at Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret. A concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre is one sure way to wow a fella. And if you like to keep things simple, you can always just grab a coffee at my favorite coffee shop in Denver-St. Mark's.

What are your favorite gay bars and/or dance clubs?
JR's is twink central, and the Sunday Beer Bust at the Wrangler is de rigueur for bears and their admirers (and Denver's got lots of bears-woof!). If you like strippers (I like strippers), you can hit Boyztown just about any night of the week. As for dance clubs, I'm a big fan of our brand-new club Mo's. It's a huge, multi-story building with some truly state-of-the-art amenities (outdoor shower, anyone?) that I am looking forward to taking full advantage of this summer.

What are your favorite gay parties or events in your town, if any? What is the crowd or scene like at those places?
Far and away, the biggest and best gay event is Denver PrideFest. I've been the official blogger for the celebration for the past two years, and with attendance of around 250,000, it's one of the top 10 Pride events in the country. People come from far and wide to experience the sights, the sounds, and the solidarity.

Where is the best public place for a gay person to make out there (or isn't there one)?
I love this question. I recently wrote a series of articles on PDGays (Public Displays of Gayness), and I went all over the city with a really hot guy, kissing and holding hands to see what kind of reactions we would get. From the 16th Street Mall to the Cherry Creek Mall and from local restaurants and cafes to concert venues, we never had a bit of trouble and actually got cheered on a couple of times. However, I'm a big, aggressive boy who doesn't mind confrontation, so I wouldn't recommend it to everybody. It's important to remember to keep yourself safe and always be aware of your surroundings!

What is the gay community like there?
Well, a lot of people are surprised to find out that Denver has the 7th largest LGBT population in the country, and therefore, we are fortunate to have communities and cliques of all kinds. We've got bois and bears, drag queens and kingz, politicos and activists, couples and families, artists and athletes. We've got it all.

Where do you shop for clothes?
I just steal clothes from the guys I date. I had to give back a great pair of Abercrombie & Fitch boxers only yesterday. I really liked the guy, but I loved those boxers.

Where do you go for other forms of entertainment-live theater, concerts, movies, art exhibits?
All of the above! I'm lucky because it's all part of my job writing for www.MileHighGayGuy.com and I get to go to pretty much everything for free. That leaves more money for drinks! We've got a great ongoing gay film series called Cinema Q at the Starz FilmCenter and a number of top-notch sports teams like the Colorado Climax elite men's hockey team to cheer on. We've also got a number of excellent theatres, including the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

If you had gay friends visiting from out of town for the first time, what are some "must-dos" you'd recommend?
I'd take 'em out drinking. We're a mile above sea level here and a few drinks can knock visitors on their asses pretty quick. It's economical and fun to watch. A lot of bang for your buck.

Is there a local cocktail that's popular in your town?
Colorado is home to the Coors Brewing Company (third largest brewing company in the nation!) and we love our Coors and Coors Light. Or you can try out the hot new drink sensation that is sweeping the Mile High City. It's called Tangaria and some friends of mine just invented it. It's a mix of rum, vodka, Tang, sangria, and Tabasco. Like the guys in Denver, it goes down nice and easy.

Where do the hot boys in your town tend to hang out?
They mostly hang out at my house. Mostly.

If you had to describe the "average gay boy" style of your town in two words, what would they be?
Shaved balls.

Do you have any local celebs?
Colorado is lucky and proud to be home to superstar gay activists and politicians like philanthropist and entrepreneur Tim Gill and Rep. Jared Polis, the first openly gay man to ever be elected as a freshman to Congress. I don't know if they're celebrities but they're certainly heroes. And of course, our Nina Flowers was first-runner-up in the fabulous first season of RuPaul's Drag Race. She worked it, loca!

What bar has the cutest/hottest bartenders?
I'd say JR's and The Compound are tied, with two particularly hot bartenders apiece, but JR's has this adorable little barback I've had my eye on for a while, so I might have to give them top (bottom?) honors.

Do gay men and lesbians hang out together in your town or is that just unheard of?
It happens a lot more than it used to. It's a great thing and mostly due to the awesome parties and events thrown by Dede Frain's Babes Around Denver - their monthly First Friday is the largest monthly women's party in the country!

Has your town ever had a "gay scandal?"
I know we're not supposed to use names, but he'll be crushed if I don't. Anybody remember an escort named Mike Jones and a certain nationally famous pastor named Ted Haggard? I say escort and not whore, because like Amy Sedaris says, "If you walk 'til you limp, and give a cut to a pimp, you're a street whore." Mike's not that.

Do you have a hometown crush?
I've generally got a baker's dozen going at any one time. Denver's an easy place to find crushes. The guys are good looking, educated, fitness-and-activity oriented and just all-around good guys, for the most part. Matter of fact, I'd go on record as saying that Denver's got some of the hottest and most dateable guys anywhere. And I've been around. God help me, have I been around.

Gay

What is the best thing that you like about your ride?

It's a 1958 Chevy Apache ½ ton longbox pickup truck. “She's got style, she's got grace, She's a winner. She's a Lady. Whoa whoa whoa...” Sometimes she reminds me of Marg Simpson’s sisters – cigarette dangling with a smokers cough obsessing about MacGyver.

Do you like to take road trips in your car? Describe your favorite road trip -- where did you go? What did you do?

Absolutely! I love takin’ the dog and driving old highways or backroads through farmlands, the mountains or along the ocean. My favorite road trips are going camping. I hook up the 1959/60 Shasta travel trailer (aka “The Shaggin’ Shasta”) and head out. So far the nicest trip has been going to Porteau Cove just north of Vancouver. I took the scenic route and the camping was fantastic – surrounded by mountains, right at the ocean’s edge. The best trip was going to the gay campground – Shadow Falls. Lots of fun for Lucy’s trailer. I’m heading off to Seattle for the Pride Weekend later today with the truck & trailer.

Do you like tinkering under the hood, or do you leave repairs and routine maintenance to your mechanic?

I do most repairs myself. I don’t trust mechanics. Right now I’ve gotta climb under the truck and install a new speedo-cable so I know how fast...or slow I’m going.

What special touches have you added to your car that reflect your personality and individuality?

Just the fact that the truck is vintage is a reflection of my personality and individuality. I prefer to keep the truck to stock but I’ve added a few things to add character. I found an awesome vintage California sticker that seems quite “risqué-gay” for its time. A Betty-Boop antenna ball and a magnet for the dash which states, “What if the Hokey-Pokey IS what it’s all about!” I also added an original 1958 BC License plate, although it’s technically not legal. The Shasta travel trailer is also a cool special touch.

What is the most you’ve ever paid for a car? What is the most you would ever pay for a car?

$10,000 for a new VW Fox...which was a piece of junk. I like to work within my means.

Do you have a great memory of a date that relates to you(r) car? Describe that night (or day).

A few. One guy referred to my truck as a “phallic symbol” but I’m not sure what that was all about. There is a hot latino guy I know and we’ve had a late night drive or two.

Do you find yourself more attracted to people with similar car tastes to your own? Or doesn’t it matter?

I seem to attract bears. My taste in men is quite a bit different and unfortunately the guys I’m attracted to have no interest in vintage vehicles. I appreciate vehicles that are vintage or unique. It tells me a bit about the person and they are willing to break from the pack and express their own individuality.

If you had an unlimited budget and could change anything you wanted on your car, what modifications or accessories would you add?

I’d replace the wood bed in the back of the truck instead of the piece of plywood and a paint job with re chroming. The only modification I’d do is get a spliced in ipod for the existing am radio.

Do you think your car has a personality or soul? What kind of sound or behavior does it have that makes it unmistakably your car?

Personality!...and she reminds me of it all the time. She has her moments where she’s not into going fast or takes a moment to get going, especially in the morning. I guess the two of us are not morning vehicles. Her most character-like sound is when I park her after a good drive and she lets out this sigh. Shhhhhhhhhssss. She makes lots of rattle sounds, clanking noises and the engine sound is unmistakable.I can also make her backfire on “Queue”.

Do you have a nickname for your car?

Mabelline

Have you upgraded the car stereo? What is your "dream" sound system?

Yes, I installed new tubes so that it works. A “dream” is a spliced in ipod so that when I go on long trips and don’t have access to am radio, I can listen to the ipod.

What aspect of your ride most attracted you when you decided to own and drive it?

She was calling my name. The body is straight but her exterior is deliciously gay! She comes from an era of winged Cadillacs, curvey fenders and added features...none of which she has.

Have you ever pushed your car to its performance limit? What was the fastest speed?

Yes! I think I drove the I-5 to Seattle and reached 70mph at one point. She was telling me it was a bit too much.

Are you a member of any car clubs or other auto related organizations?

www.stovebolt.com (OldBlue58)

What was the first car you ever had? Do you ever get nostalgic for it?

Datsun 1200. Yes – I saw one the other day that was restored.

If you could trade your ride in for any other car, what would it be, regardless of the price?

1936-1938 Mack Jr. ½ ton pickup or 1934 Hudson Terraplane K-series pickup.
<xhtml:img xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/GaycomsTravelBlog/~4/wVVBpjak6yk" height="1" width="1" />

Sexy Oscar Winner

Causing hearts to flutter was Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, one of the parade’s three Grand Marshalls (along with activist legends Cleve Jones and Anne Kronenberg). Black is not only a talented writer but cute, with a winning smile, crafted exclusively for our camera!

2. Girl of Many Talents

No parade would be complete without drag queens and New York boasts some of the nation’s most original ladies-who-happen-to-be-gentlemen. The best ones are not just beautiful, or well made-up—they’re often talented dancers, seamstresses, and even jugglers.

3. Please, Arrest Me!

Not only the parade is great fun; the crowd watching is just as entertaining. Especially when lusty, muscular guys in Speedos and police hats hand out invites to exclusive parties (or was it a massage website?).

4. Dancing of the Stars

Of course, the parade floats feature a plethora of gorgeous men, women, and everything in-between—even national television shows want a piece of the action.

5. Gay Pride Glitterati

Again, we’ve got only good things to say about onlookers with their winning smiles and matching tops!

6. Great Fire Escape View

The best Pride parties in NYC include the infamous Pier Dance and many neighborhood locals who boast great views of the parade (and vice-versa).

The Party’s Just Begun...

In the end, many of those who attended the parade end up at a bar, dance party or club after they run out of fuel. Hudson Street bar restaurant Alexandra held a party hosted by bartender and music video producer Matt (pictured above), featuring hot music, mini Cuban sandwiches, and sulty boys (patrons and bar-dancers alike).

Do you have a great memory of a date that relates to you car?

We had gone to San Diego for the weekend, to the gay rodeo. One night we decided to go to a casino that was supposed to be only 8 miles away, but ended up being something like 40. By the time we got out to the casino, (in the dessert on a reservation) we were kind of disappointed in the place, so we just grabbed something to eat and headed back. We took another route back through the mountains, there was a full moon that night. The top was down, it was warm and I had some great tunes on the stereo. The sides of the mountains were bathed in moonlight, there were no other cars at all and it was a beautiful star filled night. That night was the first night that guy and I slept together. It was just a really memorable experience.

Do you think your car has a personality or soul? What kind of sound or behavior does it have that makes it unmistakably your car?

Yes it is a bit mischievous, sometimes the parking brake decides it wants to disengage after I have parked (usually on an incline). Also the drivers window will lower by itself a minute or so after I have locked it and walked away, that one really pisses me off.

What is the best thing that you like about your ride?

I dont have to slow down to make 90 degree turns. The car handles really well.

Do you like to take road trips in your car? Describe your favorite road trip -- where did you go? What did you do?

Yes. My favorite road trip was up the coast along the Pacific Coast Highway. It was a beautiful drive with lots of twists and turns. Had the top down with the ocean air blowing by on a warm day. My destination was the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Do you like tinkering under the hood, or do you leave repairs and routine maintenance to your mechanic?

I love working on cars, I do everything from my own brakes to rebuilding engines, but this one is kind of hard to work on since everything is done from underneath. What I wouldn’t give for a car lift in my garage.

What is the most you’ve ever paid for a car? What is the most you would ever pay?

Too much and don't think I would ever spend more than 125k for a car (that's if I could).

If you had an unlimited budget and could change anything you wanted on your car, what modifications or accessories would you add?

I would replace the engine the 3.2 litre the new ones have.

Do you have a nickname for your car?

Bessie (I don’t know why but I have called all my cars that, kind of sounds like a cows name, must be the Texan in me, that's where I grew up)

Have you upgraded the car stereo? What is your "dream" sound system?

No, My dream sound system would be the Jonas Brothers singing and dancing on my dashboard.... naked...well maybe not singing....wait what was the question?

What aspect of your ride most attracted you when you decided to own and drive it?

It is like driving a fast go cart, the handling like I mentioned before is awesome!

Have you ever pushed your car to its performance limit? What was the fastest speed?

No, the fastest I have gotten it up to is 125mph on the way to work one morning (I go against traffic)

What was the first car you ever had? Do you ever get nostalgic for it?

Oh hell yes I miss that car, it was a 1966 Ford Mustang. There was another guy with a 68 fastback, we were the two mustang guys, I had a secret crush on him.

If you could trade your ride in for any other car, what would it be, regardless of the price?

Ferrari F430 Spider!!!!!

If you share a burning passion for your car like thousands of other gays, now you have a chance to let the world know. We don't just want to see your auto-obsession, we want to hear all about it!
<xhtml:img xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/GaycomsTravelBlog/~4/2NqTFjM2UwE" height="1" width="1" />

What is the best date you ever had in this town? Why?

My boyfriend took me to Ambria the night before I graduated from college. We had 2 bottles of Cristal, a fabulous meal and I made it to the graduation with seconds to spare.

What are some of the things you love most about your city/town?

The lakefront in the summer, the seasons, and traveling in the winter when it is 0 degrees.

What are some of your least favorite things about it?

Traffic.

What gym do you like most? Why?

I like the Birkam Yoga Chicago. I love to sweat it out there. Superior Pilates. Great instructors and an awesome workout.

What are some great restaurants for a night out with gay friends there?

So many. I like Wilde on Broadway for brunch, Big Chicks for Monday night dollar burgers, Minibar for light dinner and cocktails.

What are some great restaurants for a romantic gay date? What about these restaurants appeals to you?

Yoshi's on Halsted has great food, a nice vibe and down the street from the bars if it doesn't work out.

Is there a particular best place to "people watch" that most people not familiar with your town would find helpful?

The lakefront has all sorts to look at. Get on your bike and go go go.

Are there any famous people from your town?

Um, yes.

What are your favorite gay bars and/or dance clubs? What do you like about them?

Minibar for an upscale evening, Sidetracks for showtunes, Charlie's for late night dancing to songs with words!

What are your favorite gay parties or events, if any? What is the crowd or scene like at those places?

Market Days is fun, friendly, and you can be low key or crazy if you so desire. Different performers to check out.

Where is the best public place for a gay person to make out?

Is there a bad place?

What is the gay community like in your city? Do you consider yourself to be part of any particular "scene"?

I am not part of a particular scene. But if you like to define yourself amongst the communities, there is something for everyone.

Do gay men and lesbians hang out in the same places in your town, or is that just a ridiculous notion?!

I always like to see a lesbian in the bars. I feel like it is male dominated, but the Closet always is friendly to the boys.

Are you involved with any LGBT community organizations there? Which ones? What do you like about those groups?

No, but now that you mention it, I am going to.

Does your town have a LGBT pride celebration? Do you usually attend? What are the highlights for you? What do you like least about it?

Yes, and I attend if in town. It's super fun. Highlights - seeing friends united. I like the politicians and agendas the least.

Do you have a particular fashion style? Where do you shop for clothes?

I like anything from couture to H+M. There are a lot of boutiques to choose from.

Where do you go for other forms of entertainment -- live theater, concerts, movies, art exhibits? Are there any local gay performance groups, bands, or artists that you're a fan of?

I like the Art Institute on a rainy day. Chicago is fortunate to have a lot of shows and exhibits come through the city with the restored theater district in the loop. Most artists swing through on tours and you can always find new bands and talent bubbling up all over, across every genre.

If you had gay friends visiting from out of town for the first time, what are some "musts" that you'd recommend they see or do?

Plan to come back. I'd do some Halsted for the nightlife, Andersonville for the gay owned/friendly shops and restaurants, Art Institute or Museum of Modern Art for culture, Michigan Avenue for mainstream/high end shopping, Bucktown for edgier shopping, and time to take me to dinner to Joe's Stone Crab or RL, my favorite restaurants.

What city (or cities) in America would you most like to visit next, and why? Are there any specific spots there (theaters, nightclubs, historic sites, etc.) that you'd really like to see?

I always love New York because each trip I discover something new that changes my impression of it. I'd like to do some Europe now. I want to experience other cultures, cuisine, etc.

Sexuality: Gay

What is the best thing that you like about your ride?

The sex appeal the car has for its age.

Do you like to take road trips in your car?

Yes.

Describe your favorite road trip -- where did you go?

Favorite Road Trip was to Oklahoma to see a friend.

What did you do?

Nothing really lol.

Do you like tinkering under the hood, or do you leave repairs and routine maintenance to your mechanic?

I leave major repairs to mechanics but I do get under the hood a lot to make sure everything is in order.

What special touches have you added to your car that reflect your personality and individuality?

Nothing. Car does not need anything-it reflects my personality perfectly.

What is the most you’ve ever paid for a car?

$4,500 (it was a spectacular deal lol).

What is the most you would ever pay for a car?

Most? Depends on the car. If I had the cash over $150,000.

Do you have a great memory of a date that relates to you car?

No not really.

Do you find yourself more attracted to people with similar car tastes to your own? Or doesn’t it matter?

Yes! Especially people that know more than I do-major turn on.

If you had an unlimited budget and could change anything you wanted on your car, what modifications or accessories would you add?

There is this body kit that makes this car look like a Ferrari I would buy. Cost about $3,000, besides that I would do some engine upgrades for a better sound and more speed.

Do you think your car has a personality or soul? What kind of sound or behavior does it have that makes it unmistakably your car?

Personality. My car is rare so everything about it is unmistakable lol. But I would say the sound when you rev the engine and the air flows through the exhaust...It makes this low deep rumble-It sounds almost like the G35 when it starts.

Do you have a nickname for your car?

Not yet my friends are helping me to decide though....we seem to be stuck on the red dragon and space ship lol.

Have you upgraded the car stereo?

No.

What is your "dream" sound system?

I would go with Bose again they make a good sound system even though their speakers blow easily.

What aspect of your ride most attracted you when you decided to own and drive it?

Its curves and smooth aerodynamic lines.

Have you ever pushed your car to its performance limit? What was the fastest speed?

No. I wish. I have gotten it up to about 110mph before I was forced to slow down.

Are you a member of any car clubs or other auto related organizations?

Yes, NICOclub and Zdriver.com.

What was the first car you ever had? Do you ever get nostalgic for it?

94 Mazda 626 and noooo it was crap.

If you could trade your ride in for any other car, what would it be, regardless of the price?

Aston Martin Vanquish- I saw the way James Bond looked in it and knew it had to be mine.

If Woody Allen and Larry David can enjoy wild success with that awkward and discomforting comedy, so can we!

Originally titled "Bad Plays and Bad Musicals," the combined effort of the Cringefest now includes and "Unholy Sunday Films Matinees," and year's newest theme, Go Genital into the Good Night.

Everything promised to be "hilarious...irreverent, politically incorrect, naughty, and utterly zany." We believe it when the featured shows include Grampa Hitler & the L'il Red Ridin' Hood by Leroi B. Di Milo and parody Dragness of God & the Naked Holy Ghost (yes naked!) by Michael Wanzie — performances will take place Saturdays, July 25, August 1, August 8, at 10:30 pm.

The latter, which is set in convent full of men, stars the sexy Reece Scelfo (pictured above) as the titular Naked Holy Ghost — their promise of naughty bits had better not disappoint, although reviews seem to be quite congratulatory!

In other themes, the Unholy Sunday Film Matinee — July 26, Aug. 2, and Aug. 9 at 2 pm‚ — and features East Village designer Apollo Braun (a.k.a. Doron Bruanshtein) in Shut Up Apollo!, Candy & Daddy by Anton Perich (with Warhol filmstars Candy Darling & Taylor Mead), Death & Taxes by Joseph Sorrentino. A Day in the Life of Miss Sammy by Michael Wanzie & Jason Piecarski.

The program finishes off with the promised Bad Plays and Bad Musicals in myriad other themes like Is That a Spear In Your Pocket? Directed by Tony Spinosa on July 20, 25, 30, and Aug. 4, how can you go wrong with plays called The Flaming of the Shrew, or the culturally insensitive Rank Roid Rite, Samurai Proctologist? Impossible

Children & (Other) Sharp Objects, directed by Kenny Wade Marshall on July 21, 26, 30, and Aug. 5. is another theme, but there are quite a few additional ones to choose from. However some Out Traveler fave titles include Booty Bandits,Swamp Ho, and Worst. Play. Ever.

Tickets cost anywhere from $15-$25, and the film matinees include a bag of popcorn. For further info and full show lineup, visit NYartists.org, and buy tickets at Theatermania.com

What is the best thing that you like about your ride?

I like the fact that I built the car, when I look at it I can say ‘ that’s me, my personality and my ability’.

Do you like tinkering under the hood, or do you leave repairs and routine maintenance to your mechanic?

I built my fist Vintage VW when I was 15 years since then I’ve completed 23 restorations and builds. I enjoy getting together with the guys and spending time messing about with the cars. I do all my own work, it's something I really enjoy doing.

What special touches have you added to your car that reflect your personality and individuality?

My car is a 100% custom build I wanted to build a car that reflected the vintage race cars of the 40's and 50's, The Hot Rod Flat black body is a 57 VW, the ruby red tripple stage painted chopped roof is from a 64 bug, the frame has been stretched 12 inches and dropped. When it comes to the power plant of the car it’s all new, I started with a fully build 2010, added lots of go fast goodies and some fun stuff as well, like the dual flame throwers, candy red engine tins, custom bent headers, and flow master performance exhaust. The Transaxle is a fully built 92 mex beetle, On the inside there is a set of vintage racing buckets, a white leather diamond tuck headliner, and spider web door panels.

Do you have a great memory of a date that relates to you car? Describe that night (or day).

I have a lot of great memories related to the cars I’ve built, there was one date that I took to the lake in this car. I planned the time so that we would be getting there just as the sun was setting. Sitting on a sleeping bag, with a bottle of wine watching the sunset was a memorable simple date, that lasted well into the night.

Do you find yourself more attracted to people with similar car tastes to your own? Or doesn’t it matter?

I like guys who are passionate about something, if a guy is enthusiastic about some thing in their life it’s easy to be around them. I helps if there is some similar interest, but the main ingredient is passion.

Do you think your car has a personality or soul? What kind of sound or behavior does it have that makes it unmistakably your car?

The car it sort of screams personality, it’s low, it’s loud, and it’s a whole lot of fun. When I fire up the dual flame throwers the sight and sound always makes people stop and look.

Have you upgraded the car stereo? What is your "dream" sound system?

No tunes in this ride, the car creates it’s own thumping rhythm.

Have you ever pushed your car to its performance limit? What was the fastest speed?

I never have pushed the car to its limit, I’ve had it up over 100 mph, but the car is so lightweight that it gets a little flighty. Traveling at 100mph with your butt 10 inches off the ground is an E ticket ride no doubt.

I have a community of vintage VW enthusiasts, we call our selves the Ghostwagens mainly to put a name to our group, but it's sort of like naming a town. I’ve belonged to a few auto/motorcycle clubs over the years, but nothing comes close to the community of the Ghostwagens. It’s not easy being a openly gay male in the hot-rod / car tuning world. When you go to the auto events you don't see topless guys in skimpy shorts, but the idea is cool.

What was the first car you ever had? Do you ever get nostalgic for it?

My first car was a 63 VW Bug, I had so much fun in that car I became infected with the air cooled VW, and built 23 of them since that time.

If you could trade your ride in for any other car, what would it be, regardless of the price?

I wouldn’t trade my car, but I am building another VW. It’s a 1969 VW Bay Window Bus. It’s a rare bench seat, with a full tin top sunroof. I’m turning it into a VW camper so that I can combine my VW enthusiasm with my love of outdoor sports.

Member name: FirebirdGuy

What is the best thing that you like about your ride?

It is a project that came from my imagination and became real. It is completely unique. When people point and smile or kids sneer and rev I know that I did a decent job.

Do you like to take road trips in your car? Describe your favorite road trip -- where did you go? What did you do?

I'm mindful that this is an older car and that I need to take good care of it. I try to keep long excursions to a minimum. I do, however, go for frequent evening cruises around town and get my shine on. It's fun to drive around and check out other whips and the dudes driving them.

Do you like tinkering under the hood, or do you leave repairs and routine maintenance to your mechanic?

There are two automotive training schools here. One is the prestigious University of Northwestern Ohio's High Performance Program. It's good to know a few boys who go there who know their stuff. Basic stuff I can do but defer to people who can handle more complex issues.

What special touches have you added to your car that reflect your personality and individuality?

My car was your typical 1998 Pontiac Firebird convertible when I got it. I have added the following: Blue-chrome-to blue 20% tint to the side windows. 10% tint FUSION eyebrow. 20" low-pros and Greed rims. Pioneer deck, 1200 watt Directed amp, dual high-end Sony Xplods in a custom box. 9 color LED ground effects. Flowmaster exhaust. Several minor engine mods.

What is the most you’ve ever paid for a car? What is the most you would ever pay for a car?

I've never bought a new car. And all the good ones have been discontinued. However, if I had money falling out of my ass I have a special place in my heart for Lamborghinis. I'd feel bad about not buying American for about a half second and then jump in and drive away cackling!

Do you have a great memory of a date that relates to you car? Describe that night (or day).

Bluntly put, the back seat of a Firebird is a cramped, uncomfortable tortuous little box. Short of bending yourself in half or being 3 feet tall not a lot of bopping is going to occur, horizontally or otherwise. As far as being good transportation to ferry dates to and fro my car is a trooper.

Do you find yourself more attracted to people with similar car tastes to your own? Or doesn’t it matter?

It really doesnt matter a whole lot. Ownership of a car is not a make or break for me in whether I find a person attractive or not. I will admit it is a plus. I see some of the local UNOH boys tootlin around town in their tuners all gangsta leanin with their shades on tryin to look all hard so you have to smile and admit that, okay, the dude is hot and being wrapped in a good looking vehicle certainly doesnt hurt. Now personally, I tend to have more in common with dudes that have an appreciation for American muscle. The Firebird Formula, the Corvette, The Dodge Viper, the Chevy Camaro... these are a few of my favorite things. At one time I had little appreciation or kind words for tuners. Now however I understand that its simply a different stroke and some tuners look pretty damn fine.

If you had an unlimited budget and could change anything you wanted on your car, what modifications or accessories would you add?

Redo the paint to dark purple metallic, replace system with Blaupunkt, Redo leather interior. Purple vent accent lights. Purple interior lights. Shift package. WS high-performance package. GPS.

Do you think your car has a personality or soul? What kind of sound or behavior does it have that makes it unmistakably your car?

My car is the automotive embodiment of my personality. What it is I made and I made what it is.

Do you have a nickname for your car?

No, I don't name my cars. However an acquaintance told me the other day that people call my car "the Batmobile". Hmm.. I'm not really seein that.

Have you upgraded the car stereo? What is your "dream" sound system?

A dream system would require tearing out the back seat and putting in quad 15"s, mids and highs. multiple flat panels on seat backs. Blaupunkt, or maybe Alpine. I upgraded the system somewhat. Still lots of room for improvement.

What aspect of your ride most attracted you when you decided to own and drive it?

It is a Firebird, and a convertible. I thought the combination was really sharp.

Have you ever pushed your car to its performance limit? What was the fastest speed?

Interestingly enough, no. I don't really need to do that. Ive spanked a few cars in impromptu sprints down 309 so I know it will go and go fast. It's not a high performance car per se, but in it's class it performs admirably.

Are you a member of any car clubs or other auto related organizations?

No. I'm sorta in the middle of good ol boy small town America and the closest thing like that would be Columbus or Dayton. I keep toying with the idea of a Firebird/Trans Am park 'n shine someplace to show and meet but so far its still on the back burner.

What was the first car you ever had? Do you ever get nostalgic for it?

It was a cherry 1967 For LTD Landau with a 390 Windsor. My dad got it for me on my 16th birthday. I think about it sometimes. Those were some heady horny teenage years.

If you could trade your ride in for any other car, what would it be, regardless of the price?

If I had to give my car up in trade then it would have to be the 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo 5.2L V10. Oh yeaahh..

What is the best date you ever had in this town? Why?

My wife and I were lucky enough to travel to Zurich to shoot a travel show for LOGO online. We had first class accommodations and a fantastic dinner at the vegetarian restaurant, Hiltl. The ambiance and the vibe of the restaurant was so inviting, and the tremendous smell from the food encircled the inside and outside of the establishment. My wife and I partook of the beautiful buffet, enjoyed a wide selection of Indian food and wine and held hands during dinner. It was a magical night.

What are some of the things you love most about your city/town?

The public transportation and the fact that the locals speak English made my stay very stress-free. There are trains, boats, and trolleys everywhere, but I recommend walking because there are lots of shops and architecture you don't want to miss.

What are some of your least favorite things about it?

The children. I took a boat tour of Lake Zurich and when I got off the boat a group of children were throwing rocks into the water and one hit my head. The child apologized in French and English but from now on I will always wear a helmet while sightseeing.

Are there any famous people from your town?

Some guy named Einstein attended the University of Zurich. I think he was a chef or something...

What are your favorite gay bars and/or dance clubs? What do you like about them?

I met up with some friends at an adorable gay bar called the Cranberry Bar. It was a good mix of gay men and women. The Cranberry Bar has two bars inside, the upstairs bar is livelier and the downstairs bar is more intimate which is perfect for a romantic date.

Where is the best public place for a gay person to make out?

Everywhere. Switzerland is very gay friendly so I felt comfortable getting my gay on and being affectionate in public.

What is the gay community like in your city?

I found the gay community to be fabulous. Switzerland legalized same-sex unions in 2007 and registered partnerships have the same legal standing as marriage as far as next-of-kin status, tax and social security.

Does your town have a LGBT pride celebration?

Zurich hosted EuroPride this year (2009), now that's pretty gay. I didn't get to attend but I wish I had. I heard it was amazing, with over 100,000 attendees.

If you had gay friends visiting from out of town for the first time, what are some "musts" that you'd recommend they see or do?

The coolest and gayest thing I did while is Zurich was devoting a whole day to the Zoo Zurich. I had a private tour of the Zoo's exhibit on homosexuality in the animal kingdom. It was fascinating and very inspiring to see and hear about all the gay species. Just more proof that being gay is not a "choice."

What city (or cities) in America would you most like to visit next, and why? Are there any specific spots there (theaters, nightclubs, historic sites, etc.) that you'd really like to see?

My wife wants to take me to Dollywood. She's southern and insists it's a must-see. In the gay community, seeing Dolly Parton is like seeing the Pope. Do you think the Pope will let me cup her enormous boobs?
