Art Walk

First Friday of each month should be reserved for Art Walk (North Main St, McAllen), or at least Roosevelt's & Espana. Art Walk closes North Main down through Pecan St. and hosts live bands in the park, vendors, and a myriad of artists to wet the palette of anyone looking for an original piece of work - art or man. Dress is casual but look nice if you're going for a drink or 2 at Espana which features a candlelit patio, Nuevo Mediterranean cuisine and live bands. Roosevelt's is a little more subdued with its sandlot patio, several draughts on tap and tavern feel inside. Art Walk has something for everyone and who isn't into checking out, er, uh, the Art at the Walk! No cover but bring your walking shoes. Times are 6-10pm First Friday's of the month.

LET'S GO OUT!

Club 33

Call it trendy, industrial or upscale - it all leads to McAllen's newest alternative hotspot, Club 33 (located at 3300 N. McColl Road, McAllen), Club 33 boasts an elevated bass-response dance floor in the center of the first floor, a second floor terrace, 6 bars, something close to twenty 70-inch flat screens TV's, plenty of seating on both floors and a VIP area. The clientele is across the spectrum but seems to lean toward those looking to dress up a little for a night on the town. Wait-staff is friendly, the bar allows you to run tabs and cash out at the end of the night, lines go fairly fast and parking is safe, well-lit and plentiful in the McAllen District. 33 is hopping on Friday's but be there by 11:30 or you might be standing in a line to get in; if you get there between 9-10pm Wednesday thru Saturday there are drink specials to be had. Club 33 is a good time, with excellent lighting, awesome DJ's, good light shows and a clean/new environment we hope turns a trend in nightlife for the RGV. Step up, dress up and spin it right round - 33 is the newest place in town!

SHOPPING

House Wine

House Wine (1117 W. Business 83, McAllen) is an innovative, eclectic and freakishly cool place to spend an evening by yourself (yes, singles go here), with friends, date or partner - anyone and everyone. You'll feel like you warped to NYC, but the loft of House Wine is in the heart of McAllen. House offers wines by the case, by the bottle and by the glass all while you walk the loft and shop their eclectic and hand-picked, unique furnishings. If you're 'just not that into wine', you'll still love the environment, the furnishings and the crowd House Wines attracts brings a wit and sexy you can't find in clubs. Order a cheese, melon or berry plate and if you're looking to get the training wheels off try a Pinot Grigio - for the sophisticate I recommend a spicy red from Argentina. After you have glass in hand, find a seat but be gentle because you may just want to buy it; everything in House is for sale, so bring your plastic. Dress the part, flash that smile and ready yourself for an evening of something different and new you've been waiting for.

DINING

Dinner - The Patio on Guerra

Flickers of candle light on the walls, live music, fresh linens on the tables, and wait-service fit for a king are all words I use to describe The Patio (102 S 17th St, McAllen). Whether you're looking for that perfect filet, fresh lobster, large prawn shrimp or that perfectly char-grilled juicy chicken breast (my favorite) you're going to find the best food in town here. The restaurant is straight-owned but you'll find family-a-plenty in the dining room, at the bar or gathering outside on the patio. A top-pick for that night out of the ordinary, celebration or date you're looking to impress. Dress nice, look nice and bring your plastic because food and service of this quality is worth it. Order some vino, enjoy your company and look for one of the owners to stop by your table.
http://www.patioonguerra.com/Welcome.html

Located in a "box" canyon at the base of Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs became famous in the late 1800s for the health benefits of the famous waters that are contained deep underground. Several of the grand hotels built in that era still stand, like the regal Barker House.

On a recent visit, my family and I chose two bed and breakfast inns-The Avenue Hotel and Eastholme in the Rockies. The Avenue Hotel, a boarding house built in 1886, is located in the heart of Manitou's historic district. Recently renovated back to its Victorian splendor, the B&B offers seven guest rooms. Another former boarding house built in 1885, Eastholme is a short drive away in the miniscule town of Cascade.

While strolling on Manitou Avenue, stop in and sample wine at Swirl, a wine emporium, and then head uphill to Coquette Creperie. Coquette was by far the best choice of all restaurants in town, in my opinion, as Owner Turu Fleites and her team have assembled a tremendous menu, chock full of organic ingredients. I was impressed to find Crested Butte gluten and hormone free sausage as an ingredient, so I opted for the Bada Bing-loaded with the delightful protein, fresh basil, pine nuts, and ricotta.
www.avenuehotelbandb.com
www.eastholme.com
www.swirlwineemporium.com
www.coquettecreperie.com
Photos of Manitou:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellenceleste/2733050027/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/msweeney/2573445711/

Still a transportation hub today, Denver's Union Station was first built in 1881 and underwent many transformations over the years. The Mizpah Arch welcomed guests to the Mile High City starting in 1906 and was torn down in 1931 when it was deemed a traffic hazard-with the advent of automobiles.

However, Union Station Advocates, a 501(c)(3) citizens group, will host a fundraising party entitled "A Night in Old Union Station" on Thursday, October 15 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Funds raised from the event will help resurrect a replica of the historic Mizpah Arch.

The event festivities will utilize many parts of the historic station with a corporate sponsor "raw bar" repast on the mezzanine, a speakeasy in the train departure tunnel, and conductor tickets being assigned to the Great Hall.

The celebration will culminate in the Great Hall historic reception room at the end of the evening; the hall's 65 foot high ceiling will provide for a spectacular conclusion.

For tickets, visit www.blacktie-colorado.com and visit the Denver event calendar.
www.denverunionstation.org
Union Station Photos

Make the most of those last rays of summer by eking out the evenings at these first-rate open-air bars.

Sometimes having your head in the clouds is a good thing. For overseas sky sipping, we adore 64th-floor Sky Bar at restaurant Sirocco, on top of the Lebua Hotel, Bangkok -- at 65 stories above the chaotic streets below, it’s the rooftop bar with the most altitude; London’s 1.5-acre, Alhambra, English Woodland, and Tudor-themed Roof Gardens on chic Kensington High Street; and Sky Lounge, Hotel Continentale, Florence, which perches atop of the Medieval Torre de Consorti and overlooks the Ponte Vecchio and the river Arno. Nearer home, as summer canters to a close, we’re planning on topping off our night at one of our five favorite North American rooftop bars.

1. 230 FIFTH, NEW YORK
The sky’s the limit at this lofty, 14,000-square-foot, two-level lounge with its enticing fresh fruit martini list and its breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline. Nightlife impresario Steven Greenberg (of Roxy and Paramount fame) has created this tropically themed, palm-confettied oasis above Fifth Avenue, a steamy addition to his rooftop roster, which also includes the gay-adored lounge that crowns The Gansevoort Hotel and the slick boite atop the Library Hotel. When the sun has gone, the palms have been packed up and sent off for a seasonal sojourn in Florida, and winter is on its way, the roof is still the place to go: sit under high-powered heaters sipping something hot and steamy in an oversized red robe.

2. THE ROOF, THE WIT HOTEL, CHICAGO
Revel in the indoor and outdoor sections of The Roof with its toasty fire pits, handcrafted cocktails, and an Italian-inspired small-plate menu. Situated between the theater district and the river and 27 stories up, the 7,000-square-foot Roof is Chicago’s first rooftop restaurant. For those who crave a truly daring dinner, book “The Hang Over,” a suspended, glass-enclosed table for eight that will make you gulp: it dangles 27 stories above the city streets.

3. THE SKY YARD, THE DRAKE HOTEL, TORONTO
You’ll be closer to the stars in more ways than one at Toronto’s hipster palace in West Queen West -- or Queer West, as the city’s second gayborhood is sometimes called. The Drake is the slick face of the area and its celebrity-magnet Sky Yard is open year-round, amply equipped with day beds, pillow-laden banquettes, and a backdrop of films projected on the wall. Summer’s addition of a Taco and Tequila Shack gives yet more reason to sashay above street level. Taco Tuesdays provide bargain brews and shots.

4. TOP OF THE PARK, PARK MANOR SUITES, SAN DIEGO
For an almost all-gay al fresco experience, head up to Top of the Park, the seventh-floor lounge that basks above Park Manor Suites, a gay-popular address in the heart of Hillcrest’s gay goings on. The crowd skews young and gay and is at its most vivacious on Fridays during the gayborhood’s weekly bar tour. Hit the high notes for happy hour from 5 p.m. till 10 p.m.

5. BLUE SUNSET, BLUE CHAIRS RESORT, PUERTO VALLARTA
Blue Sunset’s go-go boys and drag shows provide decorative distraction from the glorious ocean views. Call in for two-for-one drink specials at the rooftop resto-bar and watch the sun sink into the Pacific before heading off to other homo hot spots nearby.

Gay walking tours combine fresh air, exercise, and enlightenment.

Cruisin' the Castro
Gay activity in San Francisco's Castro District dates back to the Gold Rush days when gay cowhands, a.k.a. the Lavender Cowboys, arrived. These forefathers of Brokeback's Ennis and Jack created the bandana-in-back-pocket Hanky Code to send subtle messages about the kind of sex they sought. Crusin' the Castro owner Kathy Amendola -- a lesbian transplant from New York -- shares this history of her neighborhood and much more on her two hour, five-block tours. (Did you know many of the streets were named after women who were downtown prostitutes?) The insight starts under the rainbow flag at the Harvey Milk Plaza, which memorializes one of the country's first openly gay elected officials. Tours offered Monday through Saturday. Tickets: $35. Advance registration required. (415-255-1821; www.CruisinTheCastro.com)

Chicago Greeter
City volunteers provide free, personalized tours through Chicago's neighborhoods year-round. The informal process matches guides with visitors based on their interests, so it's necessary to submit a request seven to ten business days in advance of your desired date. Gay walks begin in downtown Chicago and include all-day tickets for the elevated train to Andersonville (Girls' Town) and Lake View (Boys' Town). Ask for area resident John Popik, a fourth-generation Chicagoan with a background in urban history. He dishes on gay hangouts of the 1920s and '30s and the Windy City's connection with Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, and other gay-beloved celebrities. Lake View is marked by rainbow pylons on Halstead Street, where you'll see bathhouses, cabarets, and bars, including the infamous Side Track, a video bar known for playing show tunes. Go on Sundays, and you can stop in Big Chicks bar for the free buffet with drink purchase. Hidden gem: Chicago Film Makers, an independent film center in Andersonville that caters to the queer community. Group size: No more than six. (312-744-8000; www.ChicagoGreeter.com)

New York Gallery Tours
Argentina-born Rafael Risemberg, a former art critic and gay studies professor, followed his passion seven years ago to begin a tour company that focuses on gallery tours in Chelsea. He offers gay and lesbian tours once a month, September through June, featuring exhibits by GLBT artists and other shows of queer interest. Because gallery turnover occurs every four to six weeks, you'll never see the same artist twice, and no two tours are ever alike. Risemberg peruses the calendars of more than 200 galleries in the neighborhood to find the best of the gay-friendly offerings. The two-hour tour generally covers eight galleries in a six-block area. Cost: $20. Maximum capacity: 75. No reservations required. (212-946-1548; www.NYGalleryTours.com/gay.htm)

Rainbow History Tours in D.C.
Take your pick of eight LGBT walking tours (African American, Capitol Hill, Drag in D.C., Dupont Circle, East Dupont, South Capitol Street, Whitman in D.C., and Women's Sites) through the Rainbow History Project of Washington D.C. Mark Meinke and his staff offer free guided tours, but brochures distributed throughout the city allow you to do the tours on your own as well. The Capitol Hill and DuPoint Circle tours are the most popular. Each walk spans about a mile and a half in the city and covers topics like the first gay supper clubs, women's history, Langston Hughes and the black gay renaissance, and the location of early gay liberation communes. Meinke says there's history crammed on every corner. Available year-round. Call ahead for the guided tour. (202-907-9007; www.RainbowHistory.org/directory.htm)

The Gay Heritage Tour in New Orleans
Roberts Batson -- a true New Orleans character who only dresses in black or white, grew up in Central America, and has been an LGBT community activist in New Orleans for more than 30 years -- runs a theatrical two-and-a-half-hour walking tour through the French Quarter. It begins at Alternatives, a gift shop at the gay end of Bourbon Street, and focuses in part on the bars where gay men first came out. LGBT history lessons delivered en route highlight courageous early drag queens; the first woman photographer, lesbian Frances Benjamin Johnston; and Clay Shaw, the gay man who was arrested, tried, and acquitted for assassinating John F. Kennedy. Tours are offered year-round; call for schedule. Cost: $20. Advance reservations required.
What is the best thing that you like about your ride?
NOTHING sounds like a Ducati. No Harley, No Honda (insert any Japanese bike) even comes close. The engine, and clutch make a unique sound.

Do you like to take road trips on your bike? Describe your favorite road trip -- where did you go? What did you do?
Yes, every year I ride to Monterey, Calif for the MotoGp at Laguna Seca. It's a great time and there are TONS of great looking guys when you get there. The ride up Hwy 1 is fabulous once you get above Morro Bay, and the scenery is spectacular all the way up to Carmel. I usually spend 5-6 days on this trip with friends from the club. We rent a house and have a chef now who comes with us (he is getting a Ducati now!) to cook. Cute guys, fast bikes, great food and wine (but not when we ride)...what could be better?

Do you like tinkering under the hood, or do you leave repairs and routine maintenance to your mechanic?
I do most of the work, but leave the valves to the local shop...they are a pain to do yourself, and require special tools.

What special touches have you added to your bike that reflect your personality and individuality?
I have changed almost everything! Different wheels, lots of engine options like open belts, stacks with K&N air cleaners, Arrow Ti Exhaust, performance open style clutch, re-valved forks, carbon-ceramic front disc rotors, Sargent seat, etc, etc.

What is the most you’ve ever paid for a bike? What is the most you would ever pay for a bike?
This one was $18k new, but I've added over $15k in options. The Ducati Desmosidici is $72,500....that is a bit rich for my blood!

Do you have a great memory of a date that relates to you bike?
This is hardly a "date vehicle" as it scares most cuties to death. Some have tried....they were great later...details upon request.

Do you find yourself more attracted to people with similar bike tastes to your own? Or doesn’t it matter?
While most guys attracted to this type of bike are straight, there are some whom are gay. There are some real hot guys in the Orange County Club.

If you had an unlimited budget and could change anything you wanted on your car, what modifications or accessories would you add?
If money was no object, NCR in Italy makes the Mother of all Monster engines! I'm accepting donations as they cost about $20k! But they will pin your ears back!

Do you think your bike has a personality or soul? What kind of sound or behavior does it have that makes it unmistakably your bike?
Absolutely! This bike is a "Monster". They were the first production "Naked Bikes" as they didn't have fairings to cover the engine. The Arrow Ti exhaust coupled with the Ducati twin engine makes a very unique sound. NOTHING sounds like them...and people do notice you when the motor is running.

Do you have a nickname for your car?
No, but that bitch sure is fast and I've called it a few names that are not printable here.

Have you upgraded the car stereo? What is your "dream" sound system?
My dream system is plugging a set of small headphones into my cell phone and listening while riding on long rides. But mostly I like listening to the pipes! Ducati's make such sweet music!

What aspect of your ride most attracted you when you decided to own and drive it?
I saw a guy in West Hollywood riding one. He pulled up next to me in traffic. The sound was incredible! I instantly fell in love as it sounded like a really mad industrial garbage disposal on crack! If you heard one, you'd agree!

Have you ever pushed your car to its performance limit? What was the fastest speed?
Now officer, I have never myself gone this fast....but I've seen 140mph on speedometers like this under controlled conditions....hehehe.

Are you a member of any bike clubs or other bike related organizations?
Yes, I'm the President of the "Palm Springs Area Desmo Owners Club" for Ducati Motorcycles. We have 35 members with about 50 different bikes. I'm probably the only gay Ducati Club president in the country.

What was the first bike you ever had? Do you ever get nostalgic for it?
My first was a Honda 400/4. It was a great pocket rocket for a 20yo. That was over 30 years ago, and yes, there are times when I'd love to have her back in the garage. They are valuable bikes now, and sure to be classics soon.

If you could trade your ride in for any other bike, what would it be, regardless of the price?
Well, that Desmosidici at $72,500 would look good with the $7500 race exhaust. The bike is a MotoGP replica and is capable of 200+mph. Don't tell my life insurance company! But I'd love to ride that!

What is the best thing that you like about your ride?
I like the fact that if I'm on the line with someone else thats trying to either get in my lane, beat me to the next light, or even just show off, my ride will dust them. Not to mention that its comfortable enough for the speedy take-offs and the smooth enough for long rides.

Do you like to take road trips in your car? Describe your favorite road trip -- where did you go? What did you do?
I love taking road trips in my car. Even though my car isn't typically a luxury car with all the internal amenities, my car still is comfortable enough for the long haul. The most recent day trip I took was up to Mt. St. Helens and then out to the Bagby Hotsprings in the same day. The St. Helen part was to get out of the city, see some nature and explore the wilds of a National Monument. I went with friends so we were able to act silly (well that happens no matter where we are heh) in the Ape Caves and then still take some amazing photos outside in the wilds.
The Hotsprings part was because we all decided that after hiking all day, we needed to rest. I mean it was only 70 some miles. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away. There it was great, we got to hike some more through the forest and then go nude into the hot tubs. What better way to end a fun day trip!?

Do you like tinkering under the hood, or do you leave repairs and routine maintenance to your mechanic?
I usually leave my work to my mechanic.

What is the most you've ever paid for a car? What is the most you would ever pay for a car?
I usually like to find cars that are not perfect. I don't like to pay a lot for the car but will pay a lot to fix it up and make it perfect. I just replaced the engine in my 68 Stang and it was about 6 grand.

What special touches have you added to your car that reflect your personality and individuality?
The main touch is the paint job. It couldn't just be normal (as I'm not) So I got a paint color that looks purple in certain light and angles and blue in another. Its called Spicy Eggplant. Spicy, yea thats me.
Another touch I've added is neon lights inside the dash. My car is a classic so I didn't want to change its look too much, so adding the blue dash lights added without taking away from its classic feel.

Do you find yourself more attracted to people with similar car tastes to your own? Or doesn't it matter?
I love guys that like classic cars. I mean I know how much work they can be so its rewarding to see other guys going through the same things I go through. Also its just hot to see a hot guy next to a hot muscle car. Gets me all revved up!

Do you have a great memory of a date that relates to you car? Describe that night (or day).
Well the main date that I have related to my car is its purchase date. I remember it very well because it was the worse looking car I had ever seen, plus it was Thanksgiving. Here I was purchasing a horrible looking Mustang on the day I should be giving thanks. But after looking back and seeing how my car has progressed from then to today, I'm giving thanks every day now.

If you had an unlimited budget and could change anything you wanted on your car, what modifications or accessories would you add?
I have a wonderful paint job but it wasn't one that is totally to the frame. I would like to stripe the paint down to bare metal and start from the bottom up. Get a true ground up paint job.

Do you think your car has a personality or soul? What kind of sound or behavior does it have that makes it unmistakably your car?
Everyone hears the rumbling my engine makes and knows its me. My car has a low growl, one that sounds like its ready to dust any competitor and teach any upstart younger car a lesson.

Do you have a nickname for your car?
Speed Demon

Have you upgraded the car stereo? What is your "dream" sound system?
I've upgraded my car stereo enough to hear it over my engine but not enough to break windows as I pass by. I think that my stereo is loud enough. But my dream system, of course, would be a maybe a banging sound system the blew out windows that also was Bluetooth enabled so that when I entered the car with my Smartphone, I would be able to listen to my mp3s I have saved on it. I think a seamless integration between my home stereo, Smartphone, and my car stereo would be great.

What aspect of your ride most attracted you when you decided to own and drive it?
I love classic cars. And what can be more classic that a 1968 Mustang; thats what drew me to my car. Not to mention I could imagine how my car would eventually look once it was all fixed up.

Have you ever pushed your car to its performance limit? What was the fastest speed?
I've raced my car but never to its limit. The max speed I've gone was 130 mph. I'm sure it can go much faster but I know that getting a ticket at that speed would doom me to riding the bus heh.

Are you a member of any car clubs or other auto related organizations?
No, I would love to get a Gay Nationwide Mustang club together though!

What was the first car you ever had? Do you ever get nostalgic for it?
The first car I ever had was a 82 Mercury Capri. It was my first foray into a Mustang like car. The Mercury Capri had the same body type as its sister division, the Mustang so my car looked just like an 82 Mustang. No I'm not nostalgic for it. I cant believe that I spent my money on a knock-off when I could have had the real thing!

If you could trade your ride in for any other car, what would it be, regardless of the price?
No.

If you share a burning passion for your car like thousands of other gays, now you have a chance to let the world know. We don't just want to see your auto obsession, we want to hear all about it!
<xhtml:img xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/GaycomsTravelBlog/~4/TY21ZxlcfPs" height="1" width="1" />

Gay.com Member Name: BootySex
My age: 30
My profession: Writer / Wardrobe Stylist
City/town: Palm Springs
Relationship status: Single
Sexuality: GAYYYYY

Where is the best public place for a gay person to make out there (or isn't there one)?
Riverside County has a series of ordinances to reduce light pollution. Palm Springs has been especially diligent in adhering to these policies. This creates a stunning canopy of stars which blankets the sky unlike anywhere else in Southern California.

How "out" are you where you live?
TOTALLY, more than half of the elected officials and the majority of cultural events are queer oriented. I'd always imagined life is pretty dull for a breeder in this town.

Other than bars or clubs, where to people cruise in your town? Or don't they?
I've lived in Manhattan and the Castro in SF and I think that PS is hands down the gayest place I've ever called home. People cruise everywhere from the frozen foods aisle of the grocery store to standing in line at the post office.

Are there enough guys to date in your town? Where do you meet men?
One of the positive aspects to having a gay majority here is that there are innumerable potential activities and encounters that could turn a commonplace meeting to a serious romance (or sexcapade). You don't have to live in a bar or nightclub to socialize and mingle with other members of the LGBT community. Even the Palm Springs Art museum hosts an annual party just for desert queers that draws porn stars, celebrities, public figures and glitteratti. In addition to cultural institutions, volunteering and charitable interests are very popular in the desert. In addition to lending whatever support I can at the museum, I also support the Desert AIDS Project, Gilda's Club, and participate in regional outposts of the HRC, The Point Foundation, and GLAAD.

When you think of meeting and falling in love with "the one," do you envision the two of you settling down where you currently live? Or does that fantasy involve another town?
Many of the residents here are older, coupled transplants from Los Angeles, San Diego, or Long Beach. There are many committed couples here that appreciate being in a place where they can be themselves as well as enjoy the leisurely pace of desert living.

What do you consider the "most romantic" part of where you live? Why?
A warm summer eve on the main drag of doweening, when the moon is full and the stars are bright it's amazing to wander through the canyon or downtown.

If you could be Mayor of your town for one day, what would be the very first thing you'd want to accomplish or do?
I adore our Mayor and couldn't imagine improving on his performance. I'd take the opportunity to fulfill all of my inappropriate fantasies involving power constructs, corporate culture and public office.

Do gay men and lesbians hang out together in your town or is that just unheard of?
There don't seem to be as many ladies here as boys, but Dinah Shore is a sapphic answer to spring break drawing tens of thousands of ladies to the region.

Has your town ever had a "gay scandal?" If so, describe it -- but don't use names!
Gay Scandal? That's my drag name.

Do you have a hometown crush?
He's taken but I've not too subtly made myself available should their union take a turn for the worse.

What are some of the things you love most about your town?
The city is a monument and mecca for fanatics of mid century architecture and furnishings. Local estates and secondhand stores are a goldmine for lovers of modernist design.

What are some great restaurants for a romantic gay date?
I love eating outdoors at Copleys, both the cuisine and ambiance of Johannes manages to be both chic and charming, a cozy corner at Circa 59 for the sophisticate, or a table at the Purple Palm. Also wandering the grounds of The Parker you can find seated fire pits for making smores or enjoying a cocktail.

What was the last vacation you took? Where did you go? Where do you most want to go?
I travel quite a bit for work. But I've never actually been on a vacation. Sad, I know. When I do get time off I prefer to do something quiet and relaxing.

What are your favorite gay bars and/or dance clubs?
In town: Hunters, Toucan's, Mixies, Azul and Dink's.

What is the gay community like there? Do you consider yourself to be part of any particular "scene?"
I find myself partying with local kids out on the town as well as participating in the myriad of cultural organizations here in the desert. That's something seems fairly unique here. The Annual "Boys Party" at the Palm Springs Art Museum is one of the hottest of the year drawing major entertainers, club goers, celebutards and society doyennes. Previously, I had an administrative role for an August institution and things here are comparatively fresh with the support of progressive and forward thinking patrons.

If you had gay friends visiting from out of town for the first time, what are some "must-dos" you'd recommend?
Get breakfast at Cheeky's which is owned by a desert native whose ingredients are entirely local and baked goods TO DIE FOR. Get out on the patio and have a cocktail and a slider in a swing at Azul. Brunch at The Parker where the lush and fabulous grounds are romantic and lovely. Stop at the PS Art Museum, and a stroll down Palm Canyon to check out all the local boutiques and eateries. PS is considered a major destination for the region both culturally and for our community, but despite it's sophisticated residents I describe it as a village where familiar faces are all around you.

Where do the hot boys in your town tend to hang out?
Gold's Gym is popular with the muscle queens, adult performers, and gym fairies. The Courtyard at Koffi is always hopping with boys, and of course there's always Hunters, Toucan's, and of course my bedroom.

What is the best thing that you like about your ride?
Style, Comfort, Reliability, RWD and power.

Do you like to take road trips in your car? Describe your favorite road trip -- where did you go? What did you do?
So far the longest road trip I went on was to San Francisco, Treasure Island to be exact... I went and entered in the 3rd Annual TI car show that was organized by a few of my friends and sponsored by Tunerplayground and Monster Energy drinks.

Do you like tinkering under the hood, or do you leave repairs and routine maintenance to your mechanic?
It depends on the size of the job. Under the hood of the 540I is stock for now and routine maintenance is done by me. But bigger repairs like a transmission replacement is done at a shop. Although my previous car which was a 1990 Integra Sedan had many goodies under the hood that were performed by yours truly from a large aluminum Fluidyne radiator to a upgraded GSR transmission for shorter gears with every other bolt on you can think of.

What special touches have you added to your car that reflect your personality and individuality?
I chose a black car because I find it to be quite "sexy" when kept clean... I like to take turns quite fast and the stock 15" 50 series tires were NOT cutting it. So I had to upgrade to 18x8" front and 18x9.5" rear M parallel wheels with performance Michelin pilot tires, dark tinted windows all the way around for added privacy and an Alpine CD player with Ipod adapter because it came with a stock cassette player and 6500K Xenon kit to put the projector headlights to better use.

What is the most you’ve ever paid for a car? What is the most you would ever pay for a car?
$17,000 for a 2003 Acura 3.2TL Type-S was the most. And the most I will ever pay for a car depends on my budget at the time which of course will be whatever I can afford.

May 11, 2009... The day I bought it... On May 10th I ended a 5 year love affair with my 1990 integra. On May 11th I searched all over Craigslist and made a list of 5 cars I wanted to look at in order from best to worse. It included a 1997 Mercedes E420 as first, a Red 1995 BMW 540I, a Black 1994 BMW 540I, 1992 Ford Mustang 5.0L GT and a 2000 Dodge Durango. I called for the Mercedes, someone was at the dealer lot filling out papers to buy it... Called for the red 540I, the ignition switch had just gone out... Called the black 540I, still have it... Went out and poked around it, it was abnormally clean for its age, low miles and all. Test drove it and felt something the Integra never had... Torque... Pulled back up to the guys work... SOLD. Brought it home with a smile on my face.

Do you find yourself more attracted to people with similar car tastes to your own? Or doesn’t it matter?
I'd love to find someone with similar car tastes but its not a must.

If you had an unlimited budget and could change anything you wanted on your car, what modifications or accessories would you add?
Change the tan interior over to black BMW M5 interior, change the 5 speed Autotragic to a 6 speed Manual, Dinan lowering springs, Koni yellow shocks, M5 front and rear sway bars, Dinan engine computer chip, Dinan high flow exhaust... Thats about it, unfortunately theres not much aftermarket support for my car.

Do you think your car has a personality or soul? What kind of sound or behavior does it have that makes it unmistakably your car?
If I'm driving it too gently at freeway speeds the "transmission error" code will pop up on the information center about 2 times out of 10... If I take a hard corner to fast before the tires warm up it likes to get tail happy.

Do you have a nickname for your car?
Not really, I just call it the "bimmer".

Have you upgraded the car stereo? What is your "dream" sound system?
I just changed the stock cassette to a Alpine head unit... I wouldn't mind getting upgraded speakers through out the car with upgraded amplifiers then the stocks... Also a nice JL audio sub/amp/cap set up in the trunk would be nice... Preferably a custom set up so I can still have trunk space.

What aspect of your ride most attracted you when you decided to own and drive it?
The troque, the elegance and Rear Wheel Drive (RWD).

Have you ever pushed your car to its performance limit? What was the fastest speed?
155MPH... The speed governor kicked in after.

Are you a member of any car clubs or other auto related organizations?
Yes... I'm leader of 2 car clubs and a member of a total of 8.

What was the first car you ever had? Do you ever get nostalgic for it?
1988 Cadillac Seville... And very much so, she looked MINT. Fresh paint, flawless leather... I sold it to my brother who then proceeded to shove the front end under a Corolla.

If you could trade your ride in for any other car, what would it be, regardless of the price?
2008-2009 BMW M3 Coupe... Or a 2008-2009 Audi S5.
