This video has been around for a while now but for anyone who hasn’t yet seen it yet it really is the ultimate showdown between electric and gas powered RC vehicles! Taken from the BBC car show Top Gear, it pits a highly modified G Wiz against two nitro RC trucks. The first meets an early end thanks to the G Wiz’s fat wheels and is then replaced with an HPI Savage, a formidable opponent! The Stig is in control of the GWiz whilst the two RC nitro trucks are in the hands of Richard Hammond. I’ll leave it up to you to decide which comes out on top, electric powered RC car or gas powered RC truck!

Team Associated (Associated Electrics Inc) have just announced a couple of pretty neat limited edition MGT RTRs. Due out just in time for the 4th of July (statement currently is ‘July 2009′) you will be able to get both the Monster GT 4.6 RTR and the Monster GT 8.0 RTR with red, white, and blue flag body work. Full details from Team Associated below.

If you can’t wait for the new flag body versions to come out you could always buy the standard monster trucks and get the body shell when it’s available!

<a href="http://www.gaspoweredrcblog.com/link.php?m=Amazon&p=19"rel="nofollow" >Click here to get the MGT 4.6 RTR Nitro RC Truck now from Amazon or click here to get the MGT 8.0 RTR Nitro RC Truck.

MGT 4.60 SE RTR with Flag Body

At the heart of the MGT 4.60 SE beats the AE 4.60 engine which has increased displacement of 33%, making the MGT 4.60 SE deliver more horsepower and stump-pulling torque! The rugged extruded aluminum chassis, oil filled shocks, and huge mounted all-terrain tires give the MGT 4.60 SE over 4 inches of ground clearance, letting you take that power over almost any obstacle. Now available for a limited time with a flag body design!

Reinforced to handle the massive power the 8.0cc engine delivers, the MGT 8.0 comes factory assembled with the all new XP3D FM Computerized Digital Radio, the Pro-Start engine starting system, a 2-speed automatic transmission with
reverse, eight coil-over oil filled shocks, full precision ball bearings, specially designed Team Associated allterrain tires, and with a flag body design.

I don’t think any of the major networks will be picking it up for main-stream scheduling any time soon, but I may be wrong. Still, I guess the guys taking part enjoyed it. I’d rather have RC tanks that shoot stuff I can see though I reckon.

The kit comes with an all-new chassis and in the words of HPI ‘The Formula Ten is an easy to drive, simple to build replica of the cars that millions of racing fans around the world love to watch in action, and it’s the ideal starting point for motorsports fan of any age or ability level, whether it’s your first car or your twentieth‘. So apparently the car is for anyone - though I guess they would say that.

This rather cool looking electric rc car is a pretty accurate replica of the full size cars and being supplied in kit form with a clear shell you get the ‘fun’ of adding everything including the servos, transmitter, electronic speed controller, 540 motor and the battery. Oh, and you can also paint it however you like!

The HPI Formula Ten featured amongst a range of HPI products at the 48th Shizuoka Hobby Show 2009 held last weekend.

See pictures below of the kit in the form you will be able to buy it and one on display at the Shizuoka Hobby Show. We’ll post again when the Formula Ten is actually available.

Fancy some authentic Team Associated Short Course action in a 1/10 scale RTR package? If so the new Team Associated SC10 RTR electric race trucks could be just the ticket.

Available in a choice of 4 different officially licensed Short Course bodies there should be an SC10 style to suit almost anyone. You can buy the bodies separately if you wish so you could get hold of all 4! The bodies also fit the Traxxas Slash so if you happen to also have one of them you can swap the bodies over at will.

The Team Associated SC10 is available <a href="http://www.gaspoweredrcblog.com/link.php?m=Amazon&p=16"rel="nofollow" target="_blank" >HERE for $232.96.

Scroll down the page for a few pictures of the SC10, the official press release from Team Associated and also a video of the SC10 in action.

The Mugen MBX-6T is now available and it looks pretty good. The 1/8 scale 4WD nitro powered racing truggy is the latest offering from Mugen Seiki. Already in the current 1/8 scale stable at Mugen is the racing buggy version (the MBX-6) and the racing car (the MRX-4X). They also have a stadium truck and touring car that are both 1/10 scale, all nitro. Despite some of the loyal Mugen customers’ desire for Mugen to enter the world of electric RC they have resisted that temptation so far.

The claim from Kyosho is that the Inferno MP9 Standard Edition will have the ‘Same MP9 performance with an unbelievable price!‘. Which sounds pretty good to me.

The MP9 racing buggy series has won 7 World Championship victories, so the pedigree for this Standard Edition is pretty high. The Standard is due out in June ‘09 but there are no pricing details yet - don’t worry, when the price is released we’ll post it here.

Basically the Inferno MP9 Standard Edition is like the full on MP9 International but with some downgraded parts. See full detailed comparison below, taken from the Kyosho site. Not surprisingly the Standard looks pretty similar to the classic Kyosho MP9 as you can see.

If you can’t wait until June you could always take a look at the other<a href="http://www.gaspoweredrcblog.com/cars-and-trucks/gas-nitro-rc-buggies"title="Gas / Nitro RC Buggies" > Gas / Nitro RC Buggies we feature.

Key features and comparison with the Standard Edition’s big brother from Kyosho:

Kyosho Inferno MP9 Standard Edition Features

Ultra Low C.O.G - Ultra low center of gravity, lightweight and optimal weight balance all combine to deliver the ultimate racing weapon.

New Body Design - Newly developed body is slimmer and lower in height to realize aerodynamic characteristics for powerful down force and stability.

More Down Force - Bolted on large wing generates powerful down force. New ribbing at the back results in improved rigidity.

Composite Torque Rods - Roll center can be adjusted by changing the direction of the spacer inserted into the lower arm of the rear suspension. Also, the one-piece ball and washer ball-ends are an added maintenance feature.

Upright Servo - Servo is mounted upright for easy maintenance and is dropped 2mm to contribute to the lower center of gravity.

Extremely Light Weight - The smaller differential units on front and rear with grooved cup joints, aluminum balls and the flexing shape of resin parts effectively lightens the weight while giving the chassis rigidity, more durability and strength.

New Fuel Tank - Newly designed fuel tank features finger hook for fast and reliable refueling and realizes stable fuel supply in even under severe posture changes.

Wraparound Side Guards - Grooved face in side guard matches the thickness of velcro tape and prevents dirt getting inside the chassis. Complete wraparound side guards only found on Kyosho MP9.

Equipped With Mud Guards - Mud guards on the rear arm prevent dirt entering the drive shaft and getting inside the wheels.

We Have You Covered - 3 types of servo horn included for various R/C systems (SANWA / KO / for JR, FUTABA and Hitech)

Hex Screws - Kit includes all hex screws enough said!

Weight Balance - Engine position moved 15mm forwards and 5mm to the center compared to the MP777. Also the height has been lowered by 1mm for ideal weight balance.

New Suspension Design - Newly developed suspension uses bushing for easy maintenance and rationalizes the setting order.

Increased Diff Case Capacity - Center differential realizes improved heat dissipating brake disc and increased case capacity for stable control through to the end of the race.

Optimal Race Settings - Fine tune for the optimal race setting with adjustments to wheelbase, tread, roll center, caster angle, toe angle and camber change.

3 Differentials = Real Time 4WD - Features the Inferno’s signature shaft-driven 3-differential full time 4WD chassis.

Same Kyosho Quality - The New Inferno MP9 Standard Edition is crafted with the same attention to detail as all previous Infernos. Proudly manufactured in Japan, same MP9 performance with a new unbelievable price!
