The purpose of this post is NOT about just giving away the FREE 50 page eBook. You see I can give you (and will!) all the free books, video, audios and other information in the world (in fact I am going to do that for my valued readers but more of that later!).In fact, I can give you all the training and material I have ever taken myself but the likelihood is that many would still not have the success they aspire to because you are missing one valuable piece of the jigsaw. So what is that missing piece? That illusive quality and characteristic that separates the highly successful from the rest?

1. Is it INTELLIGENCE?

Absolutely NOT! Whatever your background and standing now your intelligence has nothing to do with the level of success you can achieve. Skills can be taught or outsourced to somebody else and they most successful people in the world do not have the greatest IQs.

2. Is it DESIRE?

You maybe surprised to hear me say -  again absolutely not! Sure desire is essential to drive you forward but most people have a burning desire to make it BIG online but that is not enough to propel them to the level of success they want. It must be something else.

3. Is it TIME?

Although people will readily make the excuse that they haven’t enough time to breakthrough and achieve the success they want this is not the reason for success or otherwise. If you have the burning desire you will find and make the time through good time management. We all have the same amount of time in the day and we all make choices to how we spend it. Sure initially, some may have less disposable time then others but you cannot let that become an excuse as to why you fail. If you accept that “excuse” you may as well stop trying as that will always be the case and you will never succeed at anything you want to pursue until you remove that obstacle.

4. Is it PLANNING?

There is a common phrase or quotation (can’t remember who by!) that goes along these lines:-

“An imperfect plan executed today …
… will far exceed a perfect plan never carried out!”

Sure, planning is important but you don’t have to get this 100% right to make progress and to achieve success. In the end a plan is important in that it  starts to develop success habits that are so important on the path to success but it is not the main reason why people succeed.

5. Is it ACTION?

Well Yes(and no!) Action is the key factor in achieving success. But not just any old action! It has to be highly targeted, focused and measurable action. You see action on it’s own without feedback is potentially just mis-directed action and gets us nowhere. You’ve no doubt heard the saying:

“The definition of an idiot is someone who does the same thing again and again but expects to get different results!”.

But many of us do that sort of think unknowingly. Now that is not the sort of action you want to be doing  You want to measure and quantify the results you get from your actions to that you can make appropriate adjustments in your future actions so that you move towards your ultimate objective.

So you need to have the DESIRE …. to set aside the TIME …. to carry out a PLAN that develops the HABITS …. that turns into focussed and measurable ACTION. That is the key to success!

During the incredible roller coaster journey over the last year I have written 75 posts and received virtually exactly 3,500 comments! And before that date I had never written a blog let alone understood how to install and manage one so it has been a big learning curve but an enjoyable one.

When I look at those figures I think - WOW! I did that; of course with a lot of help and encouragement along the way from my many visitors (and many new friends) who I am very grateful to Now I do feel a tad guilty because in recent months I have neglected to find the time to post which has been a big mistake because the reason for my “success” has been entirely down to my personal blog which I started when I enrolled on the Alex Jeffreys’ Internet Marketing Course a year ago. 

Yes, just a year ago I started out as a student of Alex Jeffreys and now the tables have really turned around. As many of my regular visitors know, over the past 6 months or so ,I have been working with Alex as his Operation’s Manager (right-hand man, side kick, gofer … or whatever else you want to call me!). And the only reason that came about was fully embracing the coaching course and putting into practice in a massive way what we as students were taught. Well it worked, and it has ended up with me doing what I am doing now.

But of course it has meant in my new capacity that I have had to spend less time on my own business and online efforts; hence my reason (ok excuse!) for not being as active with my blog as I should be. But come the new year I am going to rectify that. The blog will be one of my main focal points going forward again; to post great educational material and tutorial videos on many things to do with building an online business; and of course all free for everyone.

So those that are just starting out in Internet Marketing and building an online business and don’t know what direction to go in - I know how you feel as I felt the same this time last year. But if you have a look back at my Archive Posts you will learn a lot as I share my experiences along the way and find out the new skills I had to learn to push forward and be successful.

Sorry about that, but as you can probably gather from my announcement in my prior post about my new position as Alex Jeffreys’ Operation’s Manager things have been a bit hectic to say the least,  (Understatement of the year!) I’ve certainly been very busy making sure everything goes smoothly for the new intake of Coaching Students but it has certainly been worthwhile; What a great group of people we have and the new exclusive private Members Forum has been a great place to mix with like minded individuals and an invaluable resource for everyone.

Now short-term this has meant I have had to postpone some of my plans for expanding my own business and put some of my ideas on the back-burner. But this ’pause’ in my rapid progress is to be welcomed as it gives me an opportunity to reevaluate my own plans and goals and update them to reflect the big changes in my situation. Anyone who has been on Alex Jeffeys Coaching Course will realise Organisation, Planning, Setting Goals and Targets, coupled with the right Mindset is key to success in building your online business. This is taught very early on in the Coaching and the students who have grasped this FULLY and IMPLEMENTED it are the ones that will go on to have the most success. Now notice the emphasis on ‘FULLY’ and ‘IMPLEMENTED’ in that prior sentence. You see there is a vast difference between intellectually knowing something to be true, fully agreeing with it but then only paying ‘lip-service’ to it. To succeed you have to make these disciplines part of your everyday habits. Once they are part of your everyday habits then you will begin to make solid progress towards the targets and goals you have set yourself.

Project Pulling Project Newsletter - relaunch

So I am going through a re-planning phase at the moment to accommodate everything that is happening to me now that I couldn’t have anticipated when I first made my plans. One of the first things I want to do is publish the next issue of my newsletter - the Profit Pulling Project. What I am going to do is create a brand new Members Site for the Newsletter which will allow for the newsletter and supporting videos to be managed all in one convenient place. I’ll start to load it with all the existing past content and then move onto creating brand new content for the new issues which I plan to release monthly.

The plan is to have less of a focus on written articles in the newsletter and more tutorial videos included. Of course my friend Gary Simpson will continue to write his regular “Motivational Moment” section of the Newsletter which has proved a very popular read with people and gets to the essence of what it takes to succeed in any venture.

And of course, if anyone would like to contribute as an Author too then please email me to get included in the newsletter to get valuable exposure for yourself and help others out at the same time.  Well it’s been a while since my last post but those that managed to get along to the recent Alex Jeffreys’ Internet Marketing Workshop in Las Vegas will appreciate why. I’m actually working as Alex’s Operation Manager for his up and coming launch of his brand new coaching program – “Marketing With Alex Coaching Course 2.0″. To work alongside someone of Alex’s stature who has access to the biggest names in Internet Marketing is a great opportunity for me. Alex himself has been coached by Mike Filsaime and Rich Schefren (the guru’s guru!) and who has made more online Internet Marketing millionaires than anybody else, so I’m sure I can learn a great deal as I work alongside him

Overall it has been a whirlwind year to-date since the conclusion of Alex’s pilot Coaching Course just a few short months ago and I can’t believe the progress and success I have had since enrolling on that life-changing course. But I am not alone; many other life’s have been changed. Many other Alex Jeffreys’ students have had some great successes since the Coaching came to an “official” end. I say “official” end, as a group of us were fortunate enough to attend his recent ‘free’ bonus Workshop in Vegas very recently. But I thought what better way to demonstrate how powerful Alex’s coaching has been than highlight the successes of just some of the students who were at Vegas and whom I have now personally met. So here, in no particular order, is a quick summary of just what has been achieved to date by those that were fortunate enough to get on his Pilot Coaching.

Now I am sorry if you were at Vegas and I have not included you on the list. (These are just some of the ones I remember, plus I did consume a little liquid refreshments now and again so you will have to excuse if I have  forgotten some of the details!) And of course I have restricted this list to just those that have attended Vegas and I have personally met. I had to draw the line somewhere otherwise it would become a very long post indeed as I know from communicating with many of the other students there are many others that have had other successes in one form or another too. If you are one of them please feel free to attach a comment to this post.

Very soon Alex will be opening the doors for his coaching once again. The fact that two people can disagree doesn’t mean one is right and one is wrong. I love Football (the soccer variety for international readers!) but I fully appreciate that many across the world don’t and like some other sport. In fact another group of people dislike sport with a vengeance. (Now they must be wrong, surely, I mean what is wrong with these people – of course, I jest and I reemphasise that these are just personal choices and these differences amongst us provide the immense choices we all have available to us today).

I used sport in the example above, but each and everyday we make choices in all areas of our life. The choices we make will have a bearing on the direction our life takes and if we manage to succeed or not in whatever pursuit we take up. Some of these are short term choices with likely very little lasting consequences; what I will have for breakfast? Others are more long term; what career choice will I make? However, the choices we make are only one factor in how things will turn out. It is how you approach the choices we all make and the ‘mindset’ you adopt that will be the biggest determinate of success or failure.

In simplistic terms do you have a positive optimistic outlook on life or a negative pessimistic one? If you approach things from a stance of negativity each challenge or hurdle that comes your way will be a major trauma for you. A ‘negatively’ minded person will give up before they achieve their goal. The fact that they ‘fail’ and cannot complete the task at hand re-enforces their mindset and they take the view ‘I told you so. I said I wouldn’t be able to do that and I was right’.

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t — you are right”- Henry Ford

 Of course, a positive person would approach each challenge that comes their way differently. They are more determined to reach their goal. They understand that everything won’t be ‘plain sailing’ but will ensure that each obstacle they are confronted with will be overcome. Either by their own efforts, educating themselves where need be, or locating people who can help them out. Either way, they manage to complete the task and as a consequence they ‘grow’ as a result. They become better as a consequence and the next time faced with a similar situation it is easier to complete. This ability to succeed at something is self-fueling. The more someone with a positive and optimistic outlook succeeds they more they want to achieve.

The “Law of Attraction” is at work here, as so famously talked about in the film “The Secret”.

Since I started my blog and have freely helped people out since day one I have seen many examples of the principles of the “Law of Attraction” in action. People’s actions and statements often reveal their truly intentions; if they are a ‘giver’ or a ‘taker’, positive or negative, optimist or pessimist. I could give some extreme examples of the negativity of people I have encountered on some rare occasions since my blog has been up and running or of examples I have witnessed on Twitter. Similarly, I have witnessed some fantastic positive contributions by people and I feel privileged to have encountered these. I am sure you could do the same. It is these extreme examples that highlight the nature of what I am talking about here. One can instantly tell by the reactions of some people; if they will be a success or a failure. In those extreme cases it really is as simple as that I feel. In the areas in between, where many people fall, the consequences are not as clear-cut but without doubt those with a positive slant, faced with the same situation as a negative-minded person will make far more progress than the latter.        

Of course, anyone who in the past has had a negative bias can at any point choose to take an alternate route. Choose to believe that anything they set out to do they can achieve. Take solace from that fact that for most people the goals we try to strive for have probably been achieved by someone else. Thus any challenges you encounter along the way, someone knows the solution. In order to be truly successful, you must not give up when confronted by such situations instead plan a way to overcome them. But of course you have to really take this on board.

I have been privileged to attend many seminars and workshops by the world renowned personal development coach Tony Robbins. He has a knack, a gift, to truly make people understand their own deep down constraints that hold them back and I am better for those experiences.  

But in the end it all comes back to choices. You can choose to accept the apparent easier route to failure by not pushing yourself or choose the path to success and grow as a consequence. I know which path I have chosen and any negativity or obstacles along the way are brushed aside. I hope you are of character where you will do the same. People of like minds always gel together. In the world of online business it is particularly important. You have far better chance of establishing Joint Venture (JV) Partners along the way by being positive rather than negative. I will leave you all with that thought

In edition to meeting with Alex Jeffreys I had the privilege to, to hang out with John Thornhill (the top UK Ebay Powerseller amongst other things) plus Dave Nicholson (another top IMer). Plus got to meet with some other Alex Jeffreys Coaching Students as well; Mark Austin, Paula Brett, Dan Briffa and Dean Holland. What a great opportunity to network, exchange ideas do a bit of brainstorming and oh yes …. Have a bit (a lot!) of fun as well !!!  Best example of mixing business with pleasure I’ve ever seen

One thing hit home to me very clearly. Building relationships through networking is an essential element to help you fast-track your business to success. Seeking out potential Joint Venture (JV) partners and building relationships with them has been an essential strategy in Alex’s own progression over the last couple of years.

Now I appreciate not everyone can get to seminars (particularly when they are half-way around the world for some) but you don’t necessarily have to, to make solid progress. Alex explained entirely how he did this on his recent Coaching Course without the need to leave the comfort of your own home! And I already have mentioned a technique above to forge relationships! There are loads of ways and you are reading another one of them now – Blogs! As many on Alex Jeffreys‘ recent Coaching Course can vouch for, a strong community type spirit can be built up using just blogs alone and thus many in the group have already forged great friendships, alliances and Joint Venture arrangements already. I know I have   But I am not alone.

Plus, in my prior post I also mentioned all about the JVVillage a community which now has approaching 600 active like-minded people. All making JV offers and potential future JV Partners as well. Why not join me in there?

So there are loads of ways to start networking and to build great relationships that might serve you well in the future and/or have great fun along the way. And having fun and enjoying what you are doing is essential to anything you do. And I’m LOVING IT!

So before you just click away from this page, think of at least one thing you CAN DO NOW …… YES NOW ….. that you haven’t done as of yet to start forging even more relationships with like minded people. DO IT NOW. All these small steps add up, but you have to put one foot in front of the other to get anywhere! Alex Jeffreys and Garry Parkes (me!)

I , along with many other students, have come a long way since the Alex Jeffreys Coaching started less than three short months ago. Along the way I have done some things not so well and some other things very well. I will let you decide which falls into which camp, but more importantly it is not about me it is about each of us reviewing our own progress and making sure we make adjustments so we get to our own personal goals as quickly as possible. I have a number of projects I am working on or are in the planning stage. I will reveal more of these at the appropriate time but underlying all of these is LIST BUILDING and building effective relationships.

One of the great things about the Alex Jeffreys Coaching Course was (and is) the undeniable community spirit and comradeship amongst many. This is something that is continuing as I write. One ‘community membership site’ I have joined recently is the JVVillage setup by fellow student Jim Gallagher and it has many of the F500 amongst its members. Last time I checked it had just over 400 members and the whole purpose of the community is to bring people together for exchange of ideas and to establish joint venture partnerships.

One of the main things that drew me to it was Jim himself. Sorry if I’m embarrassing you there Jim, LOL, but if you are an Alex Jeffreys student you will know that Jim was the first winner of the traffic generation competition that Alex set way back at the start of the year. So Jim knows his stuff. One of the key reasons why we signed up to be mentored by Alex Jeffreys was to model someone who had already been successful in an area we wanted to achieve in ourselves. Rather than going on too much about the JVVillage community I have created a short video. Hope you enjoy it:-

Mentoring offers a fast-track to bypass the pitfalls you may fall into in entering any new pursuit. You can learn by other people’s mistakes, as with anything you do new you will aways fail; it is all part of success. But you cannot be a Success without failure first, so please ensure you surround yourself with a good peer group and like-minded individuals which is hopefully what you will do at JVVillage. Gary Simpson’s Motivation Moment #2 video touches on the the importance of this area and you can watch it here below:-

We all started from different starting positions in terms of technical abilities and the amount of time we can commit to it. But there is one thing that is certain for all of us that have the passion and desire to stick at this - they will be successful in the end. No doubt about it. There are so many examples of tangible successes already within the Alex Jeffreys Coaching Course but do not worry if you have not had the results of these other people yet. It will come; As long as you maintain your commitment to your goals and apply what Alex teaches.

I would just like to pick out one ‘Student Success Story‘ as an example of just how far you can come in such a short space of time. It seems appropriate to pick this example as Jerry Holliday launched his new product on the same evening that the last Alex Jeffreys live webinar went out. Jerry, has been an Internet Marketerfor a few years now but he readily admitted to me that it wasn’t until Alex Jeffreys came along that it motivated him to really step-up and commit. And step-up he did. He followed, Alex Jeffreysteachings to the tee; created his own product, and either connected with JV partners or managed to secure interviews with some top IMer’s as bonus material to go with his product. Just look at this list of top names Jerry has managed to get on board in some way:-

Now, Jerry readily admitted to me that he was way outside his comfort zone, but to progress and be successful in Internet Marketing you have to be outside you own comfort zone!! If you are feeling comfortable, then you are not stretching yourself or learning new invaluable skills. Yeah, you’ll get it wrong sometimes but you won’t make progress without trying and ‘failing forward’ as Alex Jeffreys says.

Well, I apply another technique that Alex Jeffreys taught is – I keep a journal, plus I record ideas and make notes all the time. I have a spreadsheet continually open as I am ‘working’ at my computer and I just drop notes and reminders into it whenever something pops into my head so I don’t forget !! Since the Alex Jeffreys Coaching course started I have had no problem in keeping my material fresh, but where else can you go if you have writers block?

Well her are a few ideas that I can instantly think of (I’m sure there are more!):-  

Private Label Rights (PLR); you can use this material for free, rewrite it if you want to make it your own and put your own personality onto the content.

Article Directories; Excellent resource, just using one site, such as Ezine Articles and you will be overwhelmed with the amount of material written.

Outsourcing; Try Rentacoder here. You could no doubt get a series of 50 articles on Internet Marketing for well less than $100. Post a project and see what happens. (It’s free to post a request so do it NOW!)

Journaling; Keep a record of what you are doing. This is your story, and stories sell.

Other blogs; Get inspiration from what other people write about.

Free ebooks; again great for inspiration for you creating your own material.

Twitter; I love Twitter. Everyday there is at least one useful link that is posted. Follow me if you don’t already and I’ll keep you posted too.

YouTube; Do a search on any topic and you are sure to turn up great tutorial videos on any topic and better still you can embed the videos in your posts too.

Over the course of the last week I have been approached by two Blog owners (via Twitter) to write material for their own sites as a Guest. I’m certainly going to do this, as who knows where it could lead. It gives me potentially greater exposure plus the Blog Owner gets free content. Win-win all around. So, that’s another avenue you could explore if you wanted to.

Alex Jeffreys mentioned most of these in his great Coaching Course. For those Alex Jeffreys students reading, have a look over your course notes and/or review the Webinars as there are loads of nuggets of information for you to try and apply. Give it a go.

And outsourcing can be dirt cheap so virtually everyone has got no excuse to take advantage of it. But you need to shop around. I think I can best illustrate this point with a real life example. A couple of months ago when I was just getting into creating videos I created a 25 minute video tutorial. Now I needed it splitting into 3 videos so that I could upload it to YouTube (I didn’t know how to do it at the time but do now :-)  ) So I posted a project up and Rentacoder at 8.30 in the morning. 1 hour and 10 minutes later and I had 12 bids before I closed the bidding prematurely.

The bids ranged from $10 up to $100 (average $32) – a wide margin so how do you choose which one to select. Well you can click on the providers to get more about their experience and background or look at the Rating score allocated to them based on completed projects to date. In my case I picked someone who had a rating of 9.2 (Superb) as an average over 15 completed projects for people. That was enough for me ? And the cost - just $10 !!

At the same time I also posted the project up and Elance. On that outsourcing site I got 11 bids over the course over the next day or so. The range of bids was $50 up to $250 with the average being $91. So which service is the best? Well I’ll let you decide but price is only one factor. I am sure there are other outsourcing sites as well but these are the two I have used in the past.

You can outsource absolutely anything, and I mean anything. If you have work to get done and don’t want to do it or don’t have the skill set, then why not try outsourcing? It allows you to focus on other things which are probably a better use of your time. In a way the people who used me to set up their blogs for free for them outsourced the work to me allowing them to not have to worry about the initial technical difficulties in getting started.

Last week, when I had problems with IE7 not working properly I immediately put up a project on Rentacoder. I thought if I can’t sort it I need to get an expert in. Over the course of the day I had 8 bids ranging from $5-$50, average $22. It takes a little time to setup an account and get approved but once you have done it posting projects is very easy in deed. If you haven’t already got an account then don’t wait until you need one or you have a major problem like I did to resolve. Get one set up now, it costs nothing and is ready for when you need it.

Now the issue got more bizarre as the investigation went on, as I started to remove what I thought may be the offending items:- Video, flash, plugins etc. one by one, but the strange thing was it got to the point where I could directly put in the URL for a specific page and it would display fine with everything on it (including video, flash all my plugins… everything). However, if I attempted to naviagte to exactly the same page from anywhere else on my Blog, for example the Home page then this perfectly ‘good’ page would not display via that route! Very strange indeed, which led me to think it was something to do with  the Wordpress navigation which was the culprit. Alas, this was a total red-herring as what I tracked it down to be was one of the Social Media plugins I had installed, called “Onlywire Button”.

So if you have a similar sort of problem I suggest you deactivate and remove the code for each plugin one-by-one until you find the offending one. For me it was ‘Onlywire Button’, for you it may be something else.

TOTALLY IGNORE anything else as this is why it took me so long so fix. You see, even though my investigation and analysis was clearly indicating the problem was to do with something else by the fact the page could be satisfactorily displayed direct - ignore this - there still is apparently a problem with the page it just manifests itself when you try and click away. Bizarre but true.

I reckon the reason for the entire problem happening suddenly overnight was that Microsoft probably sent out an IE7 automatic update and this has had a disastrous effect on browsers across the world. I think that a new update will be coming out pretty soon to undo the problem they have created. But obviously, an actively visited blog can’t wait until Microsoft gets their act together, so if you are suffer from issues please use the above process until you isolate and remove the offending code.

Hope this is helpful. Certainly if anything happens like this in future I will just start removing code bit by bit and ignore anything else until I have exhausted all possibilities. Now back to catch up on a ‘lost day’ of effort. Thank you very much to all those that helped with suggestions throughout the day. Particularly Linda who’s initial suggest was along the right lines and Mark Austin who was working through things in a similar fashion to me plus all those that helped on Twitter.

Now this started happening shortly after the I put up the post yesterday evening with the video of the proof Gary Simpson had won the Google Ranking competition. About an hour after that the site starting having problems. I have tried removing the post, the video my pop-ups and yet I still get the same message.

If anybody has any ideas what I can do to rectify it please let me know. I stil don’t quite understand how it can work with other browsers (eg. Firefox, Chrome) but not IE7. Any help much apprecaited as I’m tearing my hair out here

Now the time has come to change it but I am in two minds the direction I want to go with a new avatar. Please stick with me and I will explain. Oh, and by the way, if you don’t know how to get an avatar then I was thinking of putting up a short tutorial video tomorrow on how to do it. Please drop me a comment if you would like to see a tutorial video and I will decide if there is enough interest to warrant it. 

An Avatar is an essential part of your ‘brand’, your identity on the web so i think it is important that I get this change right as it will be visible in so many places. It would be easy for me to take just a picture of me and that becomes my avatar and that may in fact be what I decide. But it occurs to me that will be just one ‘face’ amongst the myriad of others on the net. Just take a look at a twitter feed and you will see dozens and dozens of small faces as the icons. Few particularly stand out as how could they when a face is a face amongst a crowd of many. I guess you could try and make it stand out by having a sharp contrasting background  or a non-standard profile view but in the end there is only so much you can do with a small icon. So my point is this, when you initially glance at the page, few if any of the faces will jump out at you. However, compare that against someone who has a striking alternative image, something like this for example;

Now this is Harry Harris’ Twitter avatar and it really stands out. You instantly know when Harry’s about even with a cursory glance as it stands out from the majority of other ‘typical’ faces that are used. Now my question is, I want to come up with a new avatar and that avatar will be part of my branding going forward; Do you think I should go for a typical face image that the majority seem to do or is something that has a striking presence more preferable? Or don’t you think it matters one way of another?

I’d be interested to hear your views on the matter. The majority of people fail on the Internet when it comes to business and the majority I would say have no icon or have a face to represent them. Do I go with my own instinct that tells me that I should have something that stands out (not sure what yet though). Something striking that says - that’s Garry. I think the “Eye” achieves that but then I want to change it from that to something more cool and less intimidating  So let me know what you think. Drop your comments here and vote in my poll.

Incidentally, on my ‘About Me’ profile page I intend to load a proper picture of myself. The avatar is for the reasons I state above.

There have been many obstacles and barriers to get through along the way and these have been different for each of us. Whether this be new skills to learn, or getting over a mental barrier to go beyond your own comfort zone. Each of these barriers holding us back will be different for each of us, but when we overcome each one we have a breakthrough that inspires and encourages us until we inevitably meet the next ‘challenge’. Only you as an individual will know if you have stretched yourself enough and had some breakthroughs because like I say these will be personal to each of us.

I thought I would share with you three of the very significant personal barriers I have broken through to make a real go at success in Internet Marketing. The first was when I read Alex Jeffreys‘ free ebook the ‘Gurus Dream’ and watched his promotional video for the Alex Jeffreys Coaching Course. I knew instantly why I had failed in all my previous attempts to succeed in Internet Marketing.

Internet Marketing Breakthrough#1 - Patience

It was ME - I was the problem, not any system I had bought and tried. In hindsight some of the things I bought would have worked but because I was impatient I moved on to the next “killer sure-win system”. I needed to stop all that, focus on my objective and realise that there was no “get-rich-quick” scheme that would deliver overnight or in a short space of time for that matter. I had to focus more on the medium to long-term.

Breakthrough#2 - No hiding behind a mask 
I had to stop hiding behind a mask on the Internet. In anything I had previously tried in Internet Marketing I tried to remain anonymous, never wanting to reveal my name, for example. I think my mindset here was one of fear of ridicule and failure. However, I realised on Day One that this thinking had held me back. At an subconscious level I had not fully committed to a project nor fully believed in it and I had unconsciously already accepted the inevitable future failure. I knew I had to do something radically different when I enrolled on the Alex Jeffreys Coaching Course so for me it was using my true name and being totally myself when posting and commenting. I had to make sure my real-life personality was projected onto the Internet and hopefully that is what I have achieved. I have always been honest and open in everything I have done here helping other people. This anonymity thing was a real BIGGIE for me to get over. And I mean a biggie, but the instant I resolved that internally I knew that that was the key for me in why I had failed in IM so many times before.

Breakthrough#3 - No holding Back 
The prior two breakthroughs came instantly to me in a blinding flash of clarity; Even before the course had even started proper. I just knew I had to change totally to make things work doing business on the Internet.

But this last one didn’t come until about 2 or 3 weeks ago. And you will be shocked as this one. It is connected with number #2 but goes much, much deeper psychologically. You see having your name up on the web is a big step. It certainly is for most and it most certainly was for me. But even with that you are still ‘protected’ as you are still just a ‘name’ on the web amongst many millions of others.  Some of these people are  thousands of miles away so you are detached and in away still able to hide behind a mask of obscurity.

The name Garry Parkes could be anyone to other people on the Internet - But not if you show yourself on a video or via a picture !! And that was the final mental barrier for me to come down. Up until me putting up that competition video I was very reluctant to ’show my face’. Really, honest to God. I know you will find that hard to believe! That is a fact. It was way, way outside my comfort zone, even though in ‘real-life’ it doesn’t bother me in the slightest getting up on stage and presenting to an audience; It doesn’t worry me at all. But when it comes to ‘exposing’ myself on the Internet is was a big deal for me. A VERY BIG DEAL.

(Two students in fact, can vouch for this internal struggle I had, as they asked via email for a picture of me for putting on their own websites and I said NO and I gave my reason why).

So getting that competition video up for me was the final barrier coming down. I am fully committed to building my presence in the world of Internet Marketing and am now able to use my entire personality to do this. I felt great after I came to the decision. You see all along I knew that it was something I had to overcome but I kept putting off doing something about it. I was scared. But now looking back I can’t see why on earth it worried me for so long as it is well and truly behind me now. So I now look to the next thing to move me outside my comfort zone and progress further as a consequence. I know for a fact it will not be a personal one but more probably a technical skill that I need to master.

So what things have you done on this course that initially were way outside your comfort zone? I’d like to know. Are you brave enough to put them up for all to see like I have as this is the surest way to demonstrate you are over them.

Or is there something you know is holding you back that you need to overcome (personal or new skills) that you would like improve on? Recognising it is one crucial step along the way to resolving it, acknowledging it to others is another step and then the final thing is putting into place an Action Plan to resolve it.

I hope you found my own personal account of the challenges I have overcome to get this far inspiring in some way. Please let me know. And if you are struggling to come up with anything you have done outside your initial comfort zone then you need to seriously ask yourself why? Are you really committed? No-one will do them for you. Just a thought to close on.

I didn’t get it at first! But I stuck at it and now see the power and potential of it. The great new tool I have found is called TweetDeck. It is like a control panel for Twitter that allows you to group your followers into separate display sections on the screen as well as having many other very useful features too. It offers far, far more functionality than the standard Twitter home page and better still it is FREE. I am slowly creating a group in TweetDeck that has all the Alex Jeffreys Students (the F500) in one place so that it makes it easy to track and communicate with you separate from all my other Twitter Followers.
