The new version is designed to support devices with larger and high res screens and it has support for accelerometers too. If using Opera on a Windows Mobile device, you now have the ability to set 5.1 as the default browser.

The 5.1 version of Opera Mini is already available on Android and BlackBerry smartphones. Windows Mobile is the next to get the faster browsing experience.

For those devices that have accelerometers, the browser can now auto-rotate when changing the phone from landscape to portrait or vice-versa.

As Opera Mini uses a backend server to compress content before it gets to the phone, the savings on a data bill can be as good as 90% as a lot less data is pushed down to the smartphone.

The browser is available now for download here.

Some code found inside indicates that the iPod nano has the ability to playback video. Several options can be found in a section titled that could possibly enable TvOut, Subtitles, Signal, Aspect and more.

The settings were found in an internal settings property file on the nano. The part of code is pasted below...

Of course this might not actually mean anything other than Apple [AAPL] was testing various bits of code and forgot to remove some on the final build. Either way, it's an interesting find that we thought was worth a quick mention.

The latest version of iMovie (version 1.1) has a number of new features that improve on the software. The first is that it is now compatible with the latest iPod touch.

Music looping has been added as well as an In-App tips page.

The full list of new features can be found below...
• Compatible with iPod touch (4th generation).

Maynard Um with UBS Investment Research issued a note to investors this week, in which he increased his price target for AAPL stock to $350, up from $340. He said there is no evidence that the iPad is having a negative effect on Mac sales, but it is "adversely affecting the PC industry."

The report goes on to say that sales of traditional notebooks seem to be pressured by the launch of the iPad.

The 28 million suggestion is also classed as conservative by Um.

As well as speaking about iPad sales for next year, Um also believes that a CDMA iPhone 4 will be launching in January next year.

If that isn't enough for you while you are on the road then perhaps the HyperDrive HDD with a 750GB capacity could be for you.

The HyperDrive HDD is built by HyperMac and is capable of connecting up to the iPad via the camera connection kit. Once connected you have an extra 750GB of storage space for your media files.

Features included in the HyperDrive show that it has a built in memory card reader that can read 12 different formats of cards. A 3.2 inch display on the front let you see what is available on the external HDD.

Price wise, it costs $249 without the hard drive. If you add $50 to that taking it to $299, you get a 120GB model and take it up to $599 you get the 750GB hard drive.

It is a step up from the original T-Mobile G1 that launched a couple of years back and includes a fast snapdragon processor, runs Android 2.2, the latest OS from Google [GOOG], and connects up to 4G speed networks via HSPA+.

Pricing hasn't been confirmed just yet although we have been told that pre-orders are opening up later this month for those who want to get their hands on one.

The full press release with the details can be found below.

    Introducing the T-Mobile G2 with Google - the First Smartphone Delivering 4G Speeds on T-Mobile's Super-Fast HSPA+ Network

    T-Mobile, Google and HTC re-team to deliver the groundbreaking successor to the T-Mobile G1; Exclusive preorder for current T-Mobile customers begins later this month

    BELLEVUE, Wash. - Sept. 9, 2010 - T-Mobile USA, Inc. today unveiled the T-Mobile® G2™ with Google™, delivering downloads at 4G speeds1, a blazing fast web browsing experience and tight integration with Google services. The G2 breaks new ground as the first smartphone specifically designed for T-Mobile's new HSPA+ network2, which covers 100 million Americans in more than 55 major metropolitan areas across the country. The G2 is an ultra-powerful smartphone designed by HTC and is the highly anticipated successor to the T-Mobile G1, the world's first Android™-powered mobile phone, pairing a large 3.7-inch screen with a unique hinge design that opens to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. Current T-Mobile customers will get exclusive access to preorder the G2 starting later this month.

    "T-Mobile ignited the spark that set the Android world ablaze two years ago with the launch of the world's first Android-powered mobile phone, the T-Mobile G1, which remains an important milestone for both T-Mobile and the Android operating system," said Cole Brodman, chief technology and innovation officer, T-Mobile USA. "Now, with the launch of the T-Mobile G2, we are re-teaming with our partners at Google and HTC to provide T-Mobile customers with another first - the first Android smartphone designed to deliver 4G speeds on our new network."

    "One of the advantages of an open platform is the opportunity for developers to create rich mobile experiences and seamlessly get those experiences into the hands of consumers," said Andy Rubin, vice president, engineering, Google. "From new services, such as Voice Actions, to mobile applications, developer-led Android innovation is flourishing. On Android Market alone, the number of applications available to consumers has grown from just 50 applications two years ago to more than 80,000 applications today."

    "Two years ago, HTC and T-Mobile worked together to deliver the world's first Android phone, the T-Mobile G1. From that start, Android has grown to be the leading smartphone platform in the U.S., and one of the most popular globally," said Peter Chou, chief executive officer, HTC Corporation. "With today's announcement of the G2, HTC and T-Mobile are once again bringing a breakthrough Android product to market."

    The first smartphone specifically designed to deliver 4G speeds on T-Mobile's new HSPA+ network, the G2 is optimized for performance to provide customers with blazing fast access to a world of information through websites, applications, videos, file downloads and more. Built on Android 2.2, the G2 offers seven customizable home screen panels, including a dedicated panel with one-click access to your favorite Google applications such as Android Market™, which currently offers more than 80,000 applications.

    The T-Mobile G2 delivers a powerful mobile data experience that is tightly integrated with Google Voice™, as well as packed with Google applications such as Voice Actions™ from Google, Google Goggles™ and more. It is one of the first smartphones in the industry to offer the new Voice Actions feature of Google Search™, which allows you to control your phone with your voice for calling contacts and businesses, sending messages, browsing the Web, listening to music and completing common tasks. It is also the first smartphone to offer integrated access to Google Voice™, allowing customers to create a new account using their current mobile number right from the home screen. Google Voice then automatically transcribes voicemails to text so customers can read them like an e-mail or text message from their phone or online. Additional pre-loaded Google services include Google Search, Gmail™, Google Maps™ with Places and Navigation, YouTube™, Google Talk™ and Google Earth™, among others.

    Adding fuel to the G2's speed is its Snapdragon™ MSM7230 mobile processor which combines Qualcomm's new HSPA+ capabilities and second generation applications processor. The Snapdragon MSM7230 offers an 800 MHz CPU and is optimized to deliver exceptional performance, long battery life and leading edge multimedia and web browsing - with download speeds faster than other solutions currently in the market.

    The G2 delivers advanced smartphone features including an HD video camera for recording crystal-clear, high-definition (720p) videos that can be automatically uploaded to your Photobucket account and a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus. The G2 also offers smartphone essentials such as easy access to personal and work e-mail, including support for Microsoft® Exchange e-mail, contacts and calendar; social networking; and instant messaging. In addition, the G2 features a pre-installed 8GB microSD memory card with support for up to 32 GB, as well as a music player.

    Additional features of the G2 include the following:
· Dedicated Quick Keys for one-touch access to your favorite Google shortcuts and applications
Adobe FlashPlayer enabled Web browsing experience
Pinch and zoom functionality for Web browsing and photo gallery
· 4GB internal memory with pre-installed 8GB micro SD card, with support for up to 32 GB of external memory
· Built-in 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo headset and Bluetooth support
· Swype® text input for fast, accurate communication

    Availability
The T-Mobile G2 with Google will be available in the U.S. exclusively from T-Mobile, and current T-Mobile customers will have the opportunity to preorder the G2 in limited quantities later this month. Additional availability details will be shared in the coming weeks. Visit http://g2.t-mobile.com to register for updates.

The interesting thing with this particular security hole is that its a low level security hole that to fix, Apple will need to introduce new hardware.

It isn't known just yet when the dev team will launch the jailbreak and they recommend you keep away from iOS 4.1 till further notice. We suspect it will take them a few weeks to clean up the code to make it publicly available.

As for compatibility, it is expected that this will work on all iOS 4.1 devices which includes the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

iFixit managed to get hold of an iPod touch to tear down. The iPod touch went on sale this week after being announced just last week at the Apple Special Event.

The iPod touch is very thin and hence, a lower resolution camera was used as the 5 megapixel version from the iPhone 4 just wouldn't fit with the technology used today.

The new touch uses an A4 processor although it comes packaged with 256MB of RAM (just like the iPad) rather than the 512MB of the iPhone 4.

A few notable points regarding the new model. According to iFixit, it's the easiest iPod touch to get in to. It's held together with glue and two tabs.

The battery has been soldered on to the main board which makes it a pain to replace. However, there is more space between the solder joints.

The rear facing camera is about 0.7 megapixels and can capture at 960x720 pixels. There is no way that the current iPhone 4 camera could be squashed. Advances in technology need to happen first which means by this time next year, the 5th gen iPod touch might get a 5 megapixel camera.

There is no vibrating motor to be found inside. Apple [AAPL] has removed the claims from it's website where it originally said that there was so that incoming FaceTime calls could be noticed.

iFixit summarise by saying...

Better:
* Lighter and thinner
* More durable metal back panel (we've seen many broken glass iPhone 4 rear panels)
* Half the price at only $229!
Worse:
* Only 256 MB RAM
* No GPS
* Harder to disassemble
* No vibrator
* John Gruber has postulated that the iPod Touch does not have an IPS display. We are still working to verify this, and will post comparison photos soon.

Full tear down can be found here.

The service is called Google Instant and allows you to see search results as you type in what you are looking for.

For example in the UK if you hit type A in to the search box, Argos is at the top of the results pages. Add a p to the search box and the results switch to show Apple in the top place.

According to Google, tests indicate that there are time savings by creating search results on the fly as users type.

As for availability, Google Instant Search is available now for those logged in to Google. Just log in to your google account, navigate to google.com and start searching.

For mobile devices, we have been told that we can expect to see this service appear in the fall.

The information and chart was generated by Asymco that analysed the date to create the graph seen above.

According to the firm’s research, iTunes download rates for music and iOS apps are both still growing, but accelerating much faster for the latter. In fact, Asymco posits, based on data from the recently updated Music and App Store, that the total number of app downloads has already reached the same level as that of songs in less than half the time.

Another graph was posted, available at TechCrunch, that shows the rate of iTunes downloads decelerating and the rate of app downloads accelerating.

HTC will be launching the HD7 in September over in Australia if rumours are to be believed. The HTC HD7 could be called the HD3 although recent indications point to the HD7 name to match Windows Phone 7, the OS it will run.

The device it's self is believed to have a 4.5 inch AMOLED screen that can display 1200 x 800 pixels. As well as a high resolution screen it is expected to have a 1.5Ghz dual core processor as well as 1GB of RAM built in.

For storage the HD7 is expected to have 32GB and for connectivity, WiFi and 4G as well as Bluetooth. On the back is an 8 megapixel camera with two LED flashes.

We are not sure how valid these claims are as there doesn't appear to be anything too official about it at the moment other than a release date of September 15. As for the 1.5GHz dual core processor, we are not even sure they are quite ready yet. As for 4G, that is a possibility in Australia.

If all the details are correct, it's going to be quite a powerful device and one that will do well for both HTC and Microsoft [MSFT].
