Happy New Year

Been for ever since I've posted here. Figured a new year was worth a new post. Lots of kids have been born since this blog has started... how much longer will it last? I started a "the blog is dead, long live the blog" post about 2.5 years ago... yet to post.

Old shoes

I awoke to a text at 5:50 this morning from Erick, God bless him. It was about old shoes. This is a subject I'll be happy to chat about any time. Since I'm at work on the day before Thanksgiving with absolutely nothing to do, I told him I would do this post in response.He asked about Air 180 and Huarache. Sorry, I have to start with a side-note. This weekend is the big rivalry game. There is a chance that the Buckeyes will be forced by Nike to wear some strange "Combat Rivalry" uniform.

That also could mean that the Vapor Jet gloves could be on sale again. I say again, because they usually sell out on the first day. Then you can find them on Ebay for a lot more money. I think you can find them pretty easily on the web Saturday, but gone after that. I doubt our wives look at this much, but if they did, these gloves make a sweet XMas present. Back to Shoes. Just Nike ones for now, since we wouldn't care about shoes if it weren't for Nike. Jordan's aren't the ultimate.

That's right. The Nike Mag is the ultimate. Its the shoe that never existed until last year. Even though we heard about it first saw them on the feet of a kid from Hill Valley, named Marty McFly in 1989, they're not supposed to be out until 2015. They really came out last year for charity up for auction on ebay only with the proceeds going to Parkinson's research. I think they made only 1000. Maybe they will come out again in 2015. The Nike shoes made famous by a non-athlete.

Visible air pockets first arrived on the Air Max in '87. The Nike Air 180 showed the air pocket on the bottom in addition to the sides.

I'm a fan of the Pegasus, which came out in '83, I think. I currently wear the re-released 25th anniversary edition. Next year they turn 30, so maybe they will have a kick-ass throwback again. They made another Pegasus 25 that you could customize on the Nike.com store. Pegasus was also the first Nike to have the ACG label.

Then came the Huarache. If you have a Nike shoe without a tongue in it, then you probably admit that its one of the most comfortable shoes you've ever had. Bam - You never needed a tongue in your shoe to begin with. This thing went away for some dumb reason, but its back now and looks nearly the same. What happens when you put ACG and Huarache together? Double rainbow all the way. I had a pair of these. They inspired me to hike to the moon. What an adventure!

What other Nikes are worth mentioning? (or worth forgetting)?

So I drafted a post about two years ago at this point which essentially said facebook is slowly replacing the blog. It's been slowly filling and expanding what blogger was providing. Anyway, one big way facebook has been increasing it's breadth is by becoming the defacto login / user account piece for a number of web applications. Essentially 90% of new web (i.e. mobile) sites / applications offer a single sign-in option with Facebook.

Case in point Spottily. if you like music you should really check this out. You can think of it like Pandora but with greater integration into your existing desktop audio library, social networking (i.e. Facebook), and sharing.

This looks like the kind of thing that has been on the blog before, but it was just brought to my attention and I thought I'd share it will you all.
Friday night I sent an email to an artist I heard on Pandora, Seth Augustus, suggesting that he look up Woodlands if he comes to town. He responded and for some reason mentioned a link to this Theo Jansen fellow...and here we are.

Check it out. There are a bunch of creations. You can buy your own miniature for $75. No problem.

Quarry Jumping

I can't remember who was there... perhaps Jimmy, Joe, Pat, Brad, Jared, Andy, Ed, Jeremy?

At some point during a random summer in high school I remember jumping off a platform into the McKinley qaurry and swimming out the island in the middle. After taking a quick break we swam / crawled through the muck in order to leave.

Does anyone remember doing this? Earlier in the week I found out Columbus is planning to use this quarry as a reservoir for water treatment by-products... crazy to think how different the area has become.

I started writing a blog post about two years ago about the slow "death" of the blog. I'm not sure when this thing peaked but it was certainly before the explosion of Facebook (facebook was exclusive to college kids for a while).

Anyway I've been posting more and more "little" things which used to be blog worthy to Facebook. Here's an example... the final Movember update which I posted to facebook on Wednesday.

Yeah it seems like most of Metallica's new stuff blows. But last night at the Blue Jackets game it sounded like And Justice for All as their intro song before the game started and it was bad ass. The 5-1 victory was nice too. I read a blurb in Sports Illustrated before the game about how the new pickup Wiesnewski was overpaid and how Carter was asking for a trade. Both had great games though.

On the subject of sports, it is unusual to see the Bengals in a strategically good position for a few years to come. Andy Dalton has been impressive to say the least. Anyone who watched him in TCU's win over Wisconsin last year in the bowl game shouldn't be surprised. And with several first and second round draft picks in the near future they should get better.

Seth - I liked your post on the Grandview football team. I think I went to their previous playoff game in about 87 when they lost to Portsmouth Notre Dame. I hope they have a good coaching staff that can continue the winning ways.

And who cares that OSU will probably get lit up by Michigan today. If we get Urban Meyer it should be awesome. I can't wait to see what one of his offenses will do in the Big Ten.

Can anyone stomach listening to the new Metallica - Lou Reed collaboration? I tried to preview a few on iTunes. Holy shit! Its the worst thing I ever heard. Like worse than Primus. These two things were not meant to be combined. The Metallica part seems normal, but Lou Reed is just shat out on top of each track. My brain can't make sense of it.
Apparently, its some sort of concept album, but just putting "concept" on it doesn't really give it a good excuse. They need to fix this quick with some sort of time machine.

October 28th 2011 will be a day of firsts.

Your Grandview Bobcats will be facing Liberty Union for the Mid State League, Cardinal Division Championship.
It will be the first time in the history of the known universe that the Grandview Bobcats will play for a regular season record of 10-0. And the first shot at an undefeated regular season since 1955.
"Good morning Grandview campers." was 9-0-1 in '79. That was the first year we played Liberty Onion and we won 40-6.(The tie was a 0-0 barn burner vs. W. Jeff.). Can anyone guess how many of those we've had since 1915?

As always it's byob & chair. I'll have cooler space and the large grill out. I'll do at least 40 Hotdogs. Fire pit will be going so bring 1 log from your pile if you have one and we will be good all night. Those of you more vulnerable to the fall chill should bring 2. Dress accordingly. This is a rain or shine event.

P.S. - If any of you multi-vehicle homes would like to park a vehicle on Fairview during the day that would be great. The more parking we control in front of and adjacent to my house, the better. It will be at a premium tomorrow night and we can move cars to improve the view or charge for parking.

When Marty McFly was playing the arcade shooter, one of the little kids came and said, "You mean you have to use your hands?! That's like a baby's toy!". Now we have Xbox Kinect.

Well...seems like we're gonna have hands free shoes too! Okay, so they don't lace themselves like in the movie, but they are just like the ones in the movies.

Clean Break

Yesterday's post introduced me to the re-freshed post editor. The blogger team over at google have been putting in some work over the past 18 months keeping blogger fresh and relevant in the "personal-web-publishing" space. Seems like squarespace.com and wordpress have pushed them along.

This morning I messed around with a couple of clicks and re-designed the template. This used to be an exercise handeled in a text editor modifying blogger's own form of CSS with their own unique tags to control the appearance and functions available for the individual posts and the format of the post editor. Now they've got a WYSIWYG editor for templates which makes things dead simple.

Go blogger go... I'm sure someday those "alternative" dynamic blogger views will be come standard options.

Been a while since I've posted. I really like the new post editor... how long has this been there? To be honest facebook has taken away my blog visits. My previous multiple checks of eglobao.blogspot.com have been replaced by facebook checks form my phone.

Anyway I got a multi function printer the other day and decided to finally scan a bunch of old documents. Paper sucks and I plan to scan things more regularly to prevent the reams and reams of statements and bills from building up in the first place. Not sure scanning is actually needed for half of these documents but for some reason I've been keeping the paper stuff "just in case" for a while.

Back to the point of this post... the images included are scans of a set of old concert ticket stubs I've been hanging onto "just in case" for a while. Now that I've scanned them they can live on as 650KB files on some random hard drive backup instead of shoved in an old desk drawer. Honestly I'll probably look at them more now that they've been digitized.

Enjoy the pictures... it would be great to augment these with ticket stubs from others. There certainly was a run of tool concerts in the late 90s which is clearly underrepresented in this sample. Check out the ozzfest stub signed by Lajon Witherspoon from Sevendust (who have gone on to do some big things).
