Oman beat Aussie 4-2 in their final group match

The Qantas Australian Men’s Beach Football Team have been defeated 2-4 by Oman in their final group match of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2009 Asian Qualifiers in Dubai.

Needing a win to progress to the semi-final stage, the Qantas Australian Men’s Beach Football Team got off to a bad start by allowing Oman to score the opening goal in the third minute of the match. Oman doubled their lead, with just seconds remaining in the first period when Nasser Al Mukhaini found the back of the net.

After a scoreless second period, the Qantas Australian Men’s Beach Football Team pulled a goal back early in the third period when Jonathan Cook scored to make it 2-1. Oman extended their lead shortly after through Jalal and effectively sealed the match two minutes later when Nasser Al Mukhaini scored his second goal. Michael Matricciani scored with six minutes remaining to give the Qantas Australian Men’s Beach Football Team some hope of a fight-back, but unfortunately no additional goals were forthcoming and Oman held on to book a berth in the semi-finals.

Speaking after the match, Qantas Australian Men’s Beach Football Team Head Coach Airton Andrioli was disappointed that his team didn’t progress to the semi-finals, but was proud of their performance over the three matches.

“When you look at the limited amount of preparation and experience we had with the team, we definitely performed way beyond most people’s expectations,” Andrioli said.

“Today was one of those matches. A number of chances didn’t go in and if we had a little more luck, we may have made it to the next round, but that’s football.

“In every match we played over here, we were very competitive against some very experienced opposition.

“The players commitment was outstanding and I couldn’t have asked for anything more from them. They did Australia proud and made a lot of people sit up and take notice of us,” concluded Andrioli.

In the other matches, Iran confirmed their top place in Group B with an 8-2 win over China and Bahrain defeated Japan 3-2 on penalties after scores were locked at 2-2 after extra time. Uzbekistan won their friendly match 8-7 against France.

Japan, Bahrain, Iran and Oman will now progress to the semi-finals stage, with the winners of the each semi-final match advancing to the final and will also qualify for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2009.

The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2009 will be played in Dubai from 16 to 22 November 2009 and involves 16 nations including United Arab Emirates, Portugal, Uruguay, Solomon Islands, Spain, Côte d’Ivoire, El Salvador, Russia, Costa Rica, Argentina, Italy, Brazil, Nigeria and Switzerland.

Vikings have responded strongly to the recent dual registration Memo from Football NSW

The memo/Letter below is Vikings reponse to the recent Football NSW directive regarding dual registrations. The FNSW article can be read here.

Dear Club Secretary, Coaches, Players and Parents,

Re: National Registration Regulations letter from Football NSW Ltd

I’m sending you this letter in response to Damian Brigg’s directive to your club and to assure you that it’s contents are ridiculous and not applicable.

Please note.

1. Dual registration is where a player is registered and plays for two teams or associations where those teams or associations are both affiliated to the same governing body.

NSW Vikings Futsal Indoor Soccer is NOT affiliated with Football NSW or Football Federation Australia so it would not apply to those who wish to register and play in any Vikings competition.

2. As a club you are not responsible for your players’ other sporting activities such as swimming, netball, cricket or any other sport outside your own sporting association and/or sporting governing body.

NSW Vikings Futsal Indoor Soccer is a stand-alone sporting association and is affiliated to the Australian Futsal Indoor Soccer Association Inc. with a current player base 45,000 strong.

3. The “powers that be” purposely created this situation by organising their national Futsal championships on identical dates as the Vikings equivalent, hoping players would choose theirs overs ours. Result? Players prefer ours. This situation could and should have been avoided.

Vikings Futsal regrets the situation players, parents, coaches and clubs have been placed in. Whatever decision you take we at Vikings will fully respect.

4. Why discriminate against Premier League and Super League players and why deny them the opportunity to compete in a proper national competition where they will have the opportunity to be selected in a national touring team?

Vikings National Futsal Championships offers a large state team competition component, individual club team components and Australian representative team selections including national senior women and men’s teams. The Australian Women’s national team flew out on Monday for China to compete in a 6 nation’s tournament. This is in preparation for next year’s Women’s World Cup in Argentina.

5. Why would an entire club, the ACT Boomerangs be permitted to dual register under the FFA banner to play in the Super League in NSW for insurance purposes. Also those players from the ACT whom choose to test their skills week in week out in Premier and Super League are actually ‘dual registered’ by both Capital Futsal and Football NSW Futsal.

Vikings Futsal stands by the player’s right to choose to participate in any sport/organisation they choose. We at Vikings fully support a player’s right to better themselves in any competition they choose to play. We encourage players to participate in any activity which may assist them in their own personal development.

6. If this is to be enforced in total, ALL players registered to play in any Private centre across NSW would also be required to be banned. Including centres such as five dock leisure centre, all PCYC players and various centres throughout Wollongong area.

Vikings Futsal believes this is a sad day for the sport when players are the ones whom are targeted and threatened as to where and when they can and can not play. This ruling will effectively spell the end of the 2009/2010 premier super league as many teams will have to forfeit games due to lack of player numbers.

7. At no stage have referee’s been targeted or criticised for refereeing on both sides of the game. Is this because legally they can’t be challenged?

Vikings Futsal supports an individuals right to choose. Whether they are a referee, player, administrator, staff member or club official. Each person has the right to make their own choices to better improve their skills.

Vikings Futsal reminds Football NSW that a similar event occurred in 1988, where a Futsal player (Richie Bernard) was pressured by the then Australian Soccer Federation, by prohibiting him to play in an indoor soccer competition. (During that period the ASF did not recognise indoor soccer). The case was heard by the Brisbane Supreme Court and the player was found in favour. Therefore Football NSW’s threats are baseless and nothing more than scare tactics in a desperate attempt to salvage their diminishing numbers.

In order to attempt to resolve this Football NSW created debacle, Vikings Futsal has decided to accept players currently registered with the FFA into its 2009/2010 tournaments without the need to reregister with us. Vikings Futsal will cover the insurance component for this period. Hence, no player will be registered with our organisation to play in the national championships in Sydney.

Please do not be intimidated by Football NSW.

If you need to discuss any of these issues please don’t hesitate to contact me during office hours on 02 9825 0997.

Bob Raso
CEO NSW Vikings Futsal

Round #7
This weekends round against Commodores has been moved to Sunday. Stay tuned for new game times.

8 November 2009

Allstars Announce Team, Players and Keeper for Round #5 vs Benfica (click here for the original page including player photos) :

Team of the Week – Youth Men.

After suffering their only loss in round 1 vs Benfica, our boys came out strong against a very good side which will be there abouts come seasons end. Our side knew nothing short of a great performance would suffice in gaining 3 points and the overall quality of the side shone through for a very hard fought victory.

Male player of the Week – Bruno Pivato.

Bruno was absolutely outstanding in an action packed performance which saw him cut through the Benfica side like a hot knife through butter. Bruno scored, set up and defended like a man possessed in an all out brilliant display.

Female player of the Week – Emily Kos

Young Emily has been a driving force behind the teams rise up the competitions ladder. Emily has been playing this age group for a number of years now but this season has seen Emily perform brilliantly and her performance on the weekend was instrumental in helping over turn the round 1 defeat and take her team to the top of the table.

Goal Keeper of the week – Dom Badalato

Even though his team had a comfortable victory on the scoreboard, Doms second half display was brilliant. He made countless saves and put his body on the line making some fantastic saves with every part of his body. A real first class performance which ensured his team victory.

7 November 2009

Round #6 : Allstars 19 pts – Eagles 10 pts Check out the Goal of the Round

Allstars Announce Team, Players and Keeper for Round #4 vs Quake (click here for the original page including player photos) :

Team of the week – 14 Boys

A scintillating performance by our boys where everything they did was of the highest quality. The passing, the movement, the finishing were all top notch. A great performance by every single player in the team that stepped foot onto the court.

Male Player of the week – Pauli Zrno

One of the teams major offseason recruits Captain Courageous has been brilliant so far this season and the weekends game was his best. His touch on the ball was first class, his passing was clinical and his lead up work to Jasons goal (goal of the week) was absolutely brilliant.

Female Player of the week – Niqui Caridad

Niqui has been instrumental in the teams great start to the season and 2 goals in this game playing in an unaccustomed role at target proved why she is a major part of the team. Plays with a big heart and never pulls out of a tackle. Great performance

Goal Keeper of the week – Greg Frelingos

Young Greg had to be at his best to help the team secure the 3 points on the weekend. Whilst in control for most of the game, Greg made some brilliant saves to secure the 3 points. He was at his brilliant best making some terrific saves both low and high. Good game.

PIRATES MENS TEAM DRAW AGAINST ASHBURTON!

The Pirates Senior Mens team who are competing in the MFL (Melbourne Futsal League) at Caroline Springs, earned their first point on Saturday night against Ashburton. Ashburton were on high after their convincing win last week against AFG, but were cursing their collapse against a gritty Pirates team who never gave up. Trailing 5-1 with 10 minutes to go in the second half, the boys clawed their way back into the game with some good passing and shooting to level the game at 6-6. Ashburton were fast fading and demoralised and it was the Pirates who should have snatched victory, only for Dusan to shoot wide in the dying seconds. It was a close call as to who our bets player was….it was a toss up between Sam our Goalkeeper or Dusan Bosnjak who started the scoring spree! Player Coach, Zoran, was elated with the draw, especially after being so far behind at the break!

The next ACADEMY term has commenced, but the Pirates are always on the look out for committed players who want to learn how to play the game. BOYS AND GIRLS OF ALL AGES! If you reach a competent level within our Academy, then you could be selected for one of our MFL Teams. Although our 2009 MFL squad has been finalised, we will be entering additional teams into the 2010 competion. For further details contact Mark at markg60@optusnet.com.au or 0413 527 501.

GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS!

The NSW Premier League 16 Boys match was a close one with Commodores coming out on top 3-2

Dural Warriors 2 def. by Commodores FCB 3

The Commodores 16 Boys held off a late rally from Dural to run out winners 3-2 and maintain their position near the top of the Premier League in a rousing derby at the Dural Sport and Leisure Centre.

With only 3 minutes on the clock the Warriors took the lead when Wade Giovenali carried the ball down court passed the ball wide to the overlapping Josh Mathie who cut in from the right side and slammed the ball past the keeper into the top corner of the net.

The Commodores response was almost immediate as Luke Clifford received the ball on the edge of the area and drilled the ball past the keeper to make it 1-1.

The two sides were very closely matched as each side had chances to take the lead with Dural coming very close when Nathan Niski’s shot from the left side cannoned off a post.

Dural Warriors take a free kick. Photo Peter Davies

Dural are a side that use the full width of the court and like to open up their opponents with good passing and movement before going for goal while the Commodores were preferring to defend solidly and hit their opponents hard on the break and this is how they scored their second goal.

After soaking up a period of possession from Dural the Commodores broke quickly led by Keifer Dotti who crossed to Dean Fowler on the right side who smashed the ball home at the far post to make it 2-1.

Commodores almost extended their lead when Brian Griffin-Colls hit the post and Dural keeper Ben Moon saved well from Keifer Dotti.

Just before half time Grant Freeman made a great save to deny Chris Polkinghorne then denied the same player again forcing the follow up wide.

Just after the break the Commodores went so close when a shot across goal from Keifer Dotti passed behind the keeper to the other side and the follow up shot struck a post and away to safety.

Dural almost equalised when the Commodores keeper failed to grasp the ball under pressure and the ball fell to David Kanaley whose header struck the crossbar.

The Commodores took a firm grasp on the game when Brian Griffin-Colls dispossessed a player in his own half and sped up court and passed across court to Dean Fowler looming in support who drilled the ball home at the far post.

<img class="size-full wp-image-7008" title="dur_com_05" src="http://futsal4all.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/dur_com_05.jpg" alt="Joshua Mathie shot tests Grant Freeman in Commodores Goal.
With six minutes to go Dural pulled a goal back when a long cross court pass from Luke Clifford found Keifer Dotti who slipped the ball under keeper Kamil Syed to make it 3-2.

Dural piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser and Kamil Syed pulled off two great saves to deny Josh Mathie and Wade Giovenali in quick succession. Then Glen Kelshaws curling shot from the left sailed just wide.

In the final minutes Durals Wade Giovenali pounced on a loose ball but sent his shot just wide and Nathan Niski poked the ball agonisingly just wide from close range.

In last minute the Commodores almost put the game beyond doubt when Hayden Capewell fired just over the bar.

In a fast and tense game throughout the Commodores defended with great determination to hold off the fast finishing Dural Warriors to win 3-2.

Although they weren’t at their best today Commodores coach Ashley Cross was relieved to see an end to their recent form slump after starting off the season so well. He is looking for a bit more improvement in his young side where all but one player is under 15 years of age. On this performance it looks like there’s plenty to look forward to.

Peter Davies reviews the 16 Girls match between Dural Warriors and Commodores from the NSW Premier League

Dural Warriors 4 def. Commodores 0

Shayna Killey scored all four goals for Dural as the rapidly improving Warriors 16 girls earned their first points of the season against a Commodores team that fought desperately hard the whole game but could not match Dural’s teamwork and Killey’s finishing on the day.

It was a tough day for Commodores as they were missing Sarah and Emily Johnson and outfield player Madison Keir had to deputise in goal.

The opening was an even affair as both sides traded blows and tried to gain the ascendency. But as the half went on Dural began to assert their dominance and came close when Adele Granata ran through the defence but her shot forced a good save from Madison Keir.

Shortly after the Warriors came very close to opening the scoring when keeper Madison Keir and her defence blocked three attempts on goal in a frantic goalmouth scramble.

Paige Wilson (Left) fights for the ball. Photo Peter Davies

The chances kept coming for Dural Rebecca Perry set up Teigan Whitney but her shot was saved then Kiara Farquhar set up Whitney but her attempt skewed wide.

The Commodores were hitting back on the counter attack and almost took the lead when Chris Granero’s goalbound shot was well blocked by Dural keeper Ana Acedeno.

Commodores led by Tiahna Jackson at the back were holding Dural until the lively Shayna Killey’s introduction toward the end of the first half.

Shayna’s pace took her away from the defence but Madison Keir came out to block bravely but minutes before half time Killey seized on a loose ball turned and poked the ball cheekily through the legs of the defence and keeper to make it 1-0.

In the last minute of the first half Dural extended their lead when Adele Granata overlapped down the right side and her cross found the unmarked Shayna Killey on hand to tap the ball into the net.

The Commodores came out in the second period in determined mood but before long Durals ball movement and teamwork had them in control. Madison Keir made fine saves to deny Adele Granata, Sarah Mokhtar. Shayna Killey’s shot was deflected wide and a quickly taken freekick from Kiara Farquhar found Teigan Whitney but her header went just over.

Shayna Killey (left) Shoots during 1st half action. Photo Peter Davies

The Commodores never gave up and Dural keeper Ana Acedeno made a great block to deny Erika Blume and then came out smartly to clear a through ball to deny Paige Wilson.

Midway through the half Dural made it 3-0 when Shayna Killey sped down the right flank cut inside and crashed her shot past the keeper from the tightest of angles for an excellent solo goal.

Shayna Killey grabbed her fourth with the best goal of the game when she received the ball mid court quickly passed to Granata who played the ball through the defence back to Killey who slotted the ball past the advancing keeper to make it 4-0.

The Commodores almost pulled one back when Paige Wilson won the ball in a strong challenge but her effort on goal was saved by Acedeno.

Toward the end of the game Acedeno twice made fine saves to deny the Commodores Kayelyn Pickett.

To their credit the Commodores competed hard and never stopped trying the whole game but Dural were too good on the day.

Dural coach Fabio Caprarelli was delighted to see the improvement in the things they’d been working on in training. This side is newly formed at the beginning of the season and are starting to form an understanding with each other on the court. Fabio lamented that his side have been challenging the bigger sides all season but have been letting in late goals making the final score appear one sided, but that certainly didn’t happen this time as the Warriors ran out worthy winners.

<img class="size-full wp-image-7003" title="dur_com_03" src="http://futsal4all.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/dur_com_03.jpg" alt="Dural Keeper Ana Acedeno saves well.
Australia triumphs over China 4-1 in their second match to go second in their group on goal difference

The Qantas Australian Men’s Beach Football Team has recorded its first ever win in an international beach soccer match, defeating China 4-1 on pitch three in the 2nd round of the group stage.

The win means Australia is in second place in the Group B standing, ahead of Oman on goal difference.

Australia took the lead, scoring in the first minute when Michael Matricciani found the back of the net.

Matricciani then scored his second in the 5th minute of the first period. At the end of the second, Australia had extended its lead to 3-0, when Demetrios Bakis scored his first goal of the tournament.

Australia made it 4-0 when Matricciani scored his third goal.

The only Chinese goal was scored in the final two minutes of the match.

The Qantas Australian Men’s Beach Football Team faces Oman tomorrow in a crucial game to decide which team will progress in the group.

“We needed it, so let’s see what we can do tomorrow,” said Qantas Australian Men’s Beach Football Team coach Airton Andrioli.

“We are expecting a tough game as every game is, but you know, winning today gave us a bit of confidence.

“We have been playing well but we’ve just been a little bit unfortunate in the last results, including our friendly matches.

“We hope we can continue on winning and qualify for the World Cup,” finished Andrioli.

In the other match in Group B, Oman lost in an exciting match against Iran 5-3.
