News on the long running Academies for 2010

IN 2010 THE VICTORIAN FUTBOL & FUTSAL ACADEMIES WILL CONTINUE TO BOOM!

Already operating for over eight years and initially based exclusively out of Oakleigh Recreation Centre, the academies concept for our sport seems to gain greater numbers and results with every year. More than ever witnessed before, many players are gaining genuine acknowledgement for their commitment and efforts by being identified to represent their respective ages at state level both at Futsal and Football. Aside from these obvious results, all novice and intermediate academy reps have developed at astounding rates, in regards to personal goals and targets that they set out to achieve!

Boasting the best coaches in the state and now expanding into the domain of Football due to the newly established partnership with the education arm of the official Brasilian Football fraternity (CBF) and professional club Atletico Mineiro, the opportunities that the academies sought after curriculum and delivery of quality instruction provide, have firmly established themselves, as not only the longest lasting provider of their kind but more importantly the most credentialed.

The Academy now operates out of the following locations:

Ashburton – Ballarat – Brunswick – Dandenong – Doncaster – Hawthorn – Oakleigh & Rowville

In turn it serves to provide the following programs/ courses:

Futsal Specific – Football – Female Specific – Sub Junior Development – Striker School & Goalkeeping academy

Mission statement: The Aim of each of our Programs:

The provision of an optimal sporting preparatory program and realisation of high performance opportunities in Futsal and Football at an elite level, through the development of skills, attitudes and knowledge in players, that will enable them to compete successfully at the highest levels on a regular basis.

For further details for the 2010 Victorian Futbol & Futsal Academies Programs please contact; infovic@vikingsfutsal.net

ALL ACADEMIES BEGIN PROGRAMMING IN FIRST WEEK OF FEBRUARY

An excellent initiative on Feb 14th at Dural - get along for some great Futsal and support the Sherry family

The Futsal Community comes together for the ‘Sherry Family’ in their time of Need with four games being played with the highlight of the day being the Australian Futsalroos taking on the NSW Thunder at Dural Sport & Leisure Centre on the 14th of February.

The main attraction will be the Australian Futsalroos v NSW Thunder however three other matches will take place at the Dural Sport & Leisure Centre with all proceeds going to the ‘Sherry Foundation’.

The first match will see the Mascot Vipers Academy side take on the Sydney City Eagles Academy side at 2.15pm while at 2.45, Campbelltown Quake take on the Sydney City Eagles in the Under 12 Boys category.

At 3.15pm the NSW Futsal Referees have a chance to tackle the Football NSW Futsal Premier League and Super League coaches in what should be an exciting affair between the two sides.

Come support the game for a good cause where you will also get a chance to meet and see Australia’s best Futsalroos stars in action as well as getting involved in raffles and auctions on world class memorabilia on the day.

Tragically, both Joseph and wife Carole drowned during a family holiday in Ballina in January after trying to save their children Elise and Nicholas from a rip while daughter Monique looked on from the sand.

Both parents were well loved and respected within the community as they touched many people’s hearts.

Entry for Adults is $5 while for children it will be $2.

Allstars 4-2 winners over the Vipers in the NSW Premier League finals series

Inner West Allstars 4 def. Mascot Vipers 2

Inner West 16 Girls marched straight into the Grand Final in fortnight’s time by beating their nearest rivals the Mascot Vipers 4-2 at Menai Indoor Sports Centre.

The Allstars signalled their intentions early when Samantha Bergin weaved her way through the middle of the Vipers defence and stabbed the ball past the keeper to score in the first minute of play.

Doris Osman is closed down by Samantha Bergin. Photo by Peter Davies.

Doris Osman almost snared a freak goal for the Vipers when she challenged firmly for the ball and the force of the contact sent the ball crashing against the Allstars goalpost from way outside the area.

Shortly after the Allstars went further ahead when Helen Petinos received a quick long throw from the keeper and turned and drilled a low shot into the corner to make the score 2-0.

The Vipers had to step up the pressure to get back into the game and Doris Osman came close but the defence twice blocked close range shots and Ceyda Cambaz also had a shot well saved by the Allstars keeper.

Doris Osman was running hard at the Allstars defence and her pass set up Ceyda Cambaz who smashed the ball into the net to make it 2-1.

The Allstars came out a different side in the second half and Vipers keeper Cassandra Nader made 2 great saves to keep her side in the game early on.

The Allstars pressure finally told and they took a stranglehold on the game when they scored two goals in quick succession.

Marie Svinos found Helen Petinos on the right side and she fired her shot past the advancing keeper to make it 3-1.

Helen Petinos under pressure. Photo by Peter Davies

Shortly after the Allstars made it 4-1 when Sarah Yatim received the ball with her back to goal then turned and cracked the ball into the net to give her side a formidable lead.

With a three goal cushion the Allstars could afford to get numbers behind the ball and allow the Vipers to come at them.

Nichole Pearce worked hard upfront for the Vipers and came close a couple of times.

But the Allstars were dangerous on the break and Sarah Yatim forced a great save from Cassnadra Nader and Carmel Dimarco hit the post.

Late in the game Helen Orr slotted the ball home to give the Vipers a deserved goal but time ran out for the Vipers and they now get a second chance in next weeks preliminary final.

Despite soaking up a lot of pressure from the Vipers the Allstars always seemed in control of this game and came out and scored when it really mattered. They deservedly will take their place in the Grand Final and this team will be hard to beat.

Doris Osman get to the ball in fornt of the advancing Mariela Hurtado.
Eagles come out 3-0 winners over Quake in the NSW Premier League finals series

Sydney City Eagles 3 def. Campbelltown Quake 0

Sydney City went through to the preliminary final by outlasting the Quake in an absorbing competitive game that wasn’t pretty but where every player gave everything they had for their team.

The game was an even contest throughout with both sides having an equal amount of attempts on goal, but the game was noted for it’s mid court battle and committed defending.

Laura Morabito made a fine save to deny an Annika Chapman freekick and Eagles Amy Harrison found Mel Caceres whose shot was well saved by Laura Murtagh an outfield player deputising in goal for regular keeper Dana Buttigieg.

Logan Garard is tackled by Nicole Palmer. Photo Peter Davies

Elizabeth Ralston had a shot saved by Laura Morabito and an Annika Chapman shot grazed the post.

Shortly before half time the Eagles broke the deadlock when Logan Garard received the ball unmarked upfront then turned and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0.

In the second half the match continued as an absorbing competitive contest with neither side giving an inch.

Laura Murtagh came out block a Mel Caceres shot that looked a certain goal.

Half way through the second half Sydney City got the breakthrough they needed with two goals in quick succession that sealed the victory.

Laura Murtagh clears ball from the Quake goal. Photo Peter Davies

Angela Mokhtar found some space on the right side and slammed the ball past the keeper to make it 2-0.

Then moments later the Eagles scored again when Logan Garard scored her second of the match when she slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 3-0.

Lucy Chapman fought her way past Eagles defenders but Laura Morabito came out to make a great save and shortly after Laura produced another fine save to deny Elizabeth Ralston.

The Quake weren’t happy with the way the game was refereed but in the end the Sydney City side were able to find ways to break the deadlock and hopefully the win might spur them on for a great performance in the preliminary final next weekend.

Mascot Vipers 4 def by. Sydney City Eagles 6

The Sydney City Eagles 14 Boys went through to the next round at the expense of the Mascot Vipers winning a brilliant game of attacking Futsal from both sides 6-4 after being 2 goals down in the first half. Peter Makrillos starred for the Eagles netting 4 goals.

The Vipers got off to a great start when James Demetriou fired a fierce low drive into the goal from out on the left touchline.

Vipers keeper Brian Aguiar had just made two great saves to deny the Eagles but could do nothing to stop Peter Makrillos shot to level the scores at 1-1.

The Vipers then jumped to a 3-1 lead after Dion Kakavelis chimed in to score two quick goals mid way through the first half.

The Eagles got back into the game when Peter Makrillos received the ball on the edge of the area and slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 3-2.

The Eagles came close when Makrillos laid the ball off for Bruno Antemelli but his shot struck the post.

Shortly before half time the Eagles got the goal they were looking for when Peter Makrillos received a nice cross court pass and hammered a brilliant volley into the roof of the net to make it 3-3.

Into the second half and the game was flowing from end to end with both sides having chances and both keepers making some great saves.

James Demetriou shoots for Mascot. Photo Peter Davies

The deadlock was finally broken when Chris Naumoff passed to Blair Brown who quickly found Peter Makrillos who coolly slipped the ball past the keeper to give his side the lead for the first time and score his fourth of the game.

The Vipers were still well in the game and drew level when James Demetriou held off the Eagles defence turned and slammed in a shot that went in via a deflection to make the score 4-4.

Before the Vipers had a chance to settle themselves Sydney City replied with two quick goals that sealed the contest. First Peter Makrillos held off the defence and teed the ball up for Bruno Antemelli to fire home.

Then the Eagles made it 6-4 when a quick long throw down court from keeper Blake Tuxford found Blair Brown in space who smashed the ball into the net.

The Vipers threw everything at the Eagles in the dying minutes to claw back the deficit with James Demetriou twice hitting the woodwork but Sydney City held on to win an outstanding game of Futsal from both teams to advance to the next round.

Dural Warriors Under 12 Girls win 4-0 over Allstars to advance in the NSW Premier League finals series

Inner West Allstars 0 def by. Dural Warriors 4

Dural Warriors 12 Girls side took a step closer to a Grand final berth with a 4-0 victory over the Inner West Allstars.

Dural took the lead in the first minute of the game and never looked back as Jacqui Smith slotted the ball past the keeper after some nice lead up work from Hayley Evans.

Two minutes later Dural extended their lead when they were awarded a freekick for a push in the back just outside the area. Hayley Evans stepped up and drilled the ball low through the wall and into the net to make it 2-0.

Dural Girls Celebrate a goal to put them through to Preliminary Final. Photo Peter Davies

The Allstars kept probing away for an opening back into the game and were clearly missing their skipper Emily Kos as the Warriors were able repel most of their attacks and looked dangerous on the counter themselves.

Dural went further ahead when Maddison Zahra sped down the right flank and smashed a shot across the keeper and into the net to give her side a formidable 3-0 lead.

Just before half time the Allstars nearly pulled a goal back when Georgia Koutzounis found Angelique Dimitrakis whose turn and shot produced a great save from Sammy Hamilton.

After half time the Allstars came out determined to be the first on the scoresheet and put more pressure on the Warriors defence. But again the Dural girls got behind the ball and denied the Allstars of a goal.

Dural almost extended their lead but for two great saves from keeper Heather Madgwick, first saving a shot from Maddison Zahra then bravely diving at the feet of Tara Pender.

Jacqui Smith later had a long range shot well saved by Madgwick in the Allstars goal.

Jacqueline Smith (Dural) shot gets blocked. Photo Peter Davies

Late in the game Dural scored their fourth when Hayley Evans weaved her way through the middle of the court and found Jacqui Smith who slotted the ball past the keeper from close range.

In the end Dural’s passing and movement was too good for their opponents and they ran out worthy winners and are likely to be difficult opponents in next weeks preliminary final.

U12 Commodores dominate Benfica 9-2 to reach the NSW Premier League grand final

FCB Commodores 9 def. Sydney Benfica 2

The Commodores 12 Boys sent a clear message to remaining sides in the competition that they are team to beat as they brushed aside a spirited Benfica 9-2 in the major semi final

Commodores opened the scoring when keeper Sam Bortolazzo quickly released a long throw down court to an unmarked Richard Darko who slipped the ball past the keeper.

Richie Darko Scores for Commodores. Photo Peter Davies

Benfica levelled the score when a shot from the byline struck the post, rebounded into play and Michael Trajkovski was on hand to drill the ball into the net to make it 1-1.

Hyuga Tanner put the Commodores back in front when Benfica keeper James McNicol palmed a shot away and Hyuga was on hand to sweep the ball into the net.

Michael Trajkovski almost scored again but his shot from the right side hit the post and away to safety.

Goalscorer Richard Darko turned goal provider when he dispossessed a Benfica player mid-court and found Adrian Hadjisocratous who smashed the ball into the top corner for a great goal to make it 3-1.

Darko scored his second when another long throw found the striker unmarked he then took on the keeper and eventually slotted the home to make it 4-1.

The Commodores made it 5-1 when Mark Rizoski ran down the right side then found Richard Darko who completed his hat-trick when he blasted the ball into the top corner.

Panos Armenakis tries to lay a pass past Richie Darko. Photo Peter Davies

Benfica had another shot hit the woodwork this time from Dimitri Krideras

Into the second half and Benfica almost pulled a goal back but Trajkovski’s shot hit the crossbar.

Benfica needed to score first but it wasn’t to be as the Commodores extended their lead when Darko turned the ball back inside for Mark Rizoski to slot the ball home.

Rizoski almost scored again when his shot hit the inside corner of the crossbar and post and rebounded into the arms of keeper James McNicol.

The Commodores went further ahead when Rizoski found space upfront and passed the ball inside for Darko to drill the ball home from outside the area.

Benfica hit the woodwork for the third time when Stephen Athanaseras shot struck the crossbar.

Benfica grabbed a deserved second goal when Panos Armenakis found Petros Xenos who slotted the ball neatly past the keeper.

In the dying moments of the game Richard Darko scored his fifth goal when hit the ball across the keeper to seal a 9-2 victory for the Commodores.

The scoreline did not do justice to Benfica who put in a spirited effort and had a host of chances but in the end they could not match a talented and rampant Commodores who will deservedly take their place in the Grand Final.
