First off, I want to you all to know that Funk In Your Trunk will be returning on September 1st. I also would like to apologize for such a slack on my part, I hate those blogs that just stop for various reasons. I can assure you though that I have justification...I was a Market Research Analyst intern for all of July and August. Which meant staring at a computer and working on Excel from 8-5 everyday and the last thing I wanted to do was sit look at a computer when I got home. Many times the thought of taking a Louisville Slugger to my laptop made me feel great. Sadly the internship is over on the 28th of August. Now I have the freedom and motivation to BRING THE FRESH TRACKS TO YOUR EARS AND MIND ONCE AGAIN.

Detroit is a mecca for producing great music and artists. I feel like electronic music really takes its own shape once its been passed through Detroit, and electronic music gets a certain richness after being experienced in Motor City. Ghetto Tech is a world of its own, it has its own history, its own artists, its own dance. Its 140-150 bpm dance music with a dirty edge and raw bass sounds, and its been around for a while.

Chicago Booty has been getting more and more popular recently with Busy P signing DJ Funk to his label, but Detroit is still just grinding away with underground releases and very little cross over. I can see that changing soon this stuff is perfect for mixing in with a 140 bpm dance set. The best place to search it out is at the Electrobounce website, run by DJ Godfather himself.

In a related note: Toronto artist Egyptrixx has a forthcoming release on Vicious Pop Records,

I can't wait for the action-thriller Public Enemies by acclaimed filmmaker Micheal Mann to hit theaters on July 1st. The movie explores the life of legendary Depression-era bank robbing gangster John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) with an award-winning cast. Dillinger was a charismatic bank robbers whose lightning raids made him the target of J. Edgar Hoover's (Billie Crudup) fledgling FBI and its top Agent, Melving Puris (Christian Bale), and a folk hero to a nation besieged by financial hardship and ready to celebrate a mythic figure.

No one could stop Dillinger. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone, from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Marian Cotillard), to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression.

But while the adventures of Dillinger's gang (later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham)) thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw's capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America's first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis, the dashing "Clark Gable of the FBI".

However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis' men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents), who were real gunfighters, and orchestrating epic betrayals, from the infamous "Lady in Red" to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti, were Purvis and the FBI able to close in on Dillinger.

It's Monday and by now you're dying to get out of work, and to help you out here are some great tunes from NYC-based producer is a Nu-Disco connoisseur that goes by the name CHARLIE!. I first heard about this cat over at the Louis Louis blog in January. He has a great unique style already stapled, it's a fusion of electro, crunk, and disco house. He has great original tracks and a bunch of excellent remixes. CHARLIE!'s disco-infused song "I Care" will be on his upcoming EP release sometime this summer. I love Simian Mobile Disco as you can tell from earlier posts about the dynamic duo, and I can't wait for their sophomore album Temporary Pleasure to be released on August 17th. In the meantime, I have been enjoying their first single "Audacity of Huge", which is a collaboration with Yeasayer's Chris Keating and the cowbell driven remix of the track by Naum Gabo, on repeat.

Arrested Mid-hairdo

A 25-year-old Evansville man was arrested Wednesday when he stepped out of a South Side barbershop to conduct an apparent drug deal, police said.

Marcus T. Bailey, 25, was actually being sought on a parole warrant when authorities arrived at 952 Washington Avenue and found him in a car with two other people and about 21 grams of crack cocaine, said Evansville Police Department Spokesman Steve Green. Bailey was apparently having his hair braided inside when he stepped out, Green said.
