FRISCO, TX – We’re inviting everyone to join us for the City of Frisco’s first-ever Safety Palooza to be held on Saturday, July 31, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. here at the Frisco Police Department. The party is a kickoff for one of the biggest community celebrations of the year: National Night Out. This year’s National Night Out happens the following Tuesday evening, August 3.

Safety Palooza is a great opportunity to get to know the men and women of Frisco’s police and fire departments. First responders will be on-hand all evening to answer questions and show off many of their “tools of the trade” used when emergencies happen. See the police department’s Motors Unit demonstrate their competitive motorcycle skills, and peek inside a CareFlite helicopter.

Do you have a safety plan for your family? Dispatchers with the Frisco Police Department’s Communications Division will be providing useful information to get you started. Kids can practice their 911 emergency calls, and children’s fingerprint identification kits will be available at no cost. Even McGruff the Crime Dog, Sparkie, and the Frisco Fire Department Clowns will be part of the party.

Frisco’s Safety Palooza is free, but don’t forget to bring some cash for a cool treat. Frisco’s own Snow Cone Lady will be selling her famous snow cones to help beat the heat.

Not only will parents be able to walk away with a completed identification card of their child, but children will have the opportunity to meet Cell Phone Sally and McGruff the Crime Dog.  There will also be a storyteller, face painting, and free snacks and drinks.   The fair is an excellent opportunity for parents and children to meet police department personnel in a friendly and fun environment.

The Fingerprint Fair is being hosted by the Frisco Police Department’s Communications and Community Services Divisions and is aimed at achieving public service through cooperation, education, and community service.

Child Care Providers

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the release of the new CCL Reporting Form has been delayed until next week. The new release date that has been scheduled is April 5, 2009. Child Care Licensing apologizes for any inconvenience that this has caused. A new enhancement/feature to the Child Care Licensing Public Provider Website will be going live March 29, 2009.

This enhancement is expected to allow child-care providers to interact more easily with the Department of Family and Protective Services via the Internet: Once registered and logged-in to an account, providers will now be able to:

• Submit Serious Incident and Abuse/Neglect Reports for Child Care Licensing

This new technology feature will allow child-care providers to directly report abuse/neglect and serious incidents online that have occurred at child care operations via the current Public Provider Website.

This new online reporting tool will function very similarly to the current Child Protective Services/Adult Protective Services online reporting tool. As a child-care provider with a registered account on the Public Provider Website, your current provider login will allow access to a new link that will open a Child Care Licensing online report. This new report has been modified to more closely match the needs of a child care provider.

As always, Child Care Licensing, in collaboration with child-care providers, strives to improve the health, safety, and well-being of children, and technology is one tool to help us meet that goal. We hope this new reporting option will assist providers in their work and our mission to keep children safe.

Child Care Licensing

Spring is a great time of year where life begins anew. Trees are getting dressed in fresh green leaves, the ground is covered by a blanket of emerging plush grass, flowers are showing off their new bright colors, animals are waking up from a long winter’s nap, and the sun is shining longer and warmer.

But, in order for all these plants and trees to grow, the clouds will need to spill a lot of rain on our dry Earth. This can mean a lot of rainy days. That’s ok because I have a lot of Spring Preschool Activities to keep little ones busy wet, rainy days.

Use these activities as preschool lessons, to keep busy on a rainy day, or in your home child care with your preschoolers and toddlers. Both March and April activities feature a theme, color, number, 2 alphabet letters, shape, science and social studies activities, arts and crafts ideas, reading and language skills activities, imagination play ideas, math games, coordination and movement activities, and ideas to develop social skills.
