Cinerama Memories a film i made last year, came from looking through the old newspapers in the archive and took me back to the time i used to visit the Abbey Cinerama Cinema in Wavertree Liverpool. At the time i was doing this research I decided to look at newspapers from further back for the beginning of cinema in the early part of the 1900's in Birkenhead, the name Saronie kept appearing, On returning home i dug out a local published book on the silver screens of Wirral and soon found out more on James Robert Saronie.

I have tackled other subjects that take a lot of research, and so it was to be with Saronie, having his history of cinema ownership in Birkenhead completed, i decided to try a Google search, and found that Saronie had many more secrets, The Scala Cinema, Prestatyn and a book by local historian Fred Hobbs. this book filled in many gaps in his life and, Hopefully when all the pieces fit together his story will be told.
I am looking for any Photographs of Saronie and the Scala up to when it closed and the opening of the new Scala.

Up to £60,000 has been allocated to three community projects along the North Wales coast as part of the Welsh Assembly's North Wales Coast Community Fund in partnership with RWE npower renewables (RWE NRL).

The aim of the fund is provide funding of up to £20,000 from a central fund of over £1 million, for small community-based projects which are based in the North Wales Coast Strategic Regeneration Area which covers a large part of the coast from Mochdre to Prestatyn.

The projects which are the first to benefit from the fund and who have received £20,000 each are:

Tan yr Eglwys Cycle Route, Rhuddlan which will use the money to improve part of the Rhyl to Rhuddlan Riverside walking and cycling route, carrying out work to drainage, the road surface, and introducing new kerbing and paved areas, plus removing overgrown vegetation

The Scala Community Development project, Prestatyn will use its pot of money to help purchase a 3D system, new tables and chairs and an improved lighting system.

Marine Lake Nature and Heritage Trail, Rhyl, will use the money to provide interpretation of the unique natural environment at Marine Lake and introduce a trail of different learning points around the lake, which can be followed on foot or by paper guide.

Glyn Evans, Sustrans Area Manager for North Wales said: "Improvements such as this are vital if we are going to promote cycling as a viable form of transport. This route is a real option when travelling between the communities of Rhyl and Rhuddlan."

Chris Bond, Scala general manager said: "It means a lot to the Scala - such a lot of films are coming out in 3D. Everything is being geared towards 3D. You have 3D TV now as well, so this will help us to keep up."
